I've ordered here several times and each time I'm always happy. The food is delicious, even down to the seasoning on the fries and the pickles they include on the side. Just ate here and the food was really really good. Had the combo platter with the hummus, salad, falafel and baba ganouj... large portion and fantastic flavor. On top of my mediterranean places list and we go to a lot. Be sure to get the tabouleh as well. read more

To be quite frank, being a proud resident of The Town of Boonton, I have to say... This place has some decent Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine overall. The ambiance is decent. There are 8 tables available within the dining area, though. So there is not that much ample seating. Parking is a wee difficult being on the main road of Main Street with only a handful of parking spaces. Not that many parking decks or parking lots either nearby.... The taste and quality are absolutely delectable, to me, and pretty authentic and seasoned nicely. However, I have to say, the service was lacking. There is only 1 waiter and 1 busboy, who were lagging behind to catch up with orders/requests as well as servicing the food appropriately and timely. Our food was received somewhat lukewarm. We did not complain, however. We understood that the restaurant may be short-staffed or cutting back, like most restaurants and shops and cafes throughout this nation during this critical point in time of a possible recession/inflation. But.... Oh, and the lentil soup was beyond salty. We had to water down the souu with half of a cup of water, which made the soup less than lukewarm.... Have been here three times and ordered the same falafel plate. It's so good, I can't stop thinking about it, and it'll be awhile until I'm tempted to veer to other parts of the menu. Super crispy falafel with sides of creamy hummus, Smokey baba ganoush, home made pickles and a salad make for a great variety of flavors and textures. Served with a basket of warm grilled pita. Al-Aqsa Restaurant moved in to the space, next to Chili Willie's where we have been regularly dining for over 20 years, where many restaurants have come and gone. It had an interesting menu, and prices were reasonable, so we decided to give it a try. What a pleasant surprise. The chicken shawarma sandwich was awesome and perfectly seasoned french fries were addictive . We also ordered the chicken kebab platter. The rice side dish was incredible. Yes, the rice was incredible. The pickled veggies were so good, and the chicken kebab's were moist and so, so good. I hope this restaurant is successful and we look to dining there again. read more

I have to say I was extremely unimpressed by my experience at Al Aqsa. We sat down and ordered the chicken shawarma platter and beef shawarma platter. The menu states that this comes with your choice of fries or rice, and a regular salad, pita, a coleslaw salad, and pickles. For starters, our food came out cold, and without a salad, pitacoleslaw or pickles. When we asked the waiter about the missing sides, he returned with two tiny salads, and a strange bowl of miscellaneous pickled vegetables. Overall the food was below average, and the portion sizes were nothing special. After our meal we asked about the menu discrepancies, and the waiter said that you have to specifically ask for all of the sides, because in the past people were not eating them. If that's the case, then they should update their menu. And in what world do you have to ask for the food that's supposed to be included in your meal? To be clear, the waiter is not to blame and we tipped him well. You can't kill the messenger. But I will not be eating here again. I am honestly shocked that this place has so many positive reviews. read more

Place is awesome. Had the mixed grill and stuffed grape leaves. Mixed grill was huge and cooked perfectly - tender, charcoal flavor, excellently seasoned. The rice underneath was soooo tasty. Grape leaves were awesome. Definitely going back. A+. read more

Wow!! I'm so happy there is finally an amazing falafel spot in town! The falafel is crisped to perfection! We ordered the falafel platter, falafel sandwich and shrimp salad and it did not disappoint! We were pleasantly met with Talal, the owner of Al Aqsa restaurant. We had dinner for three. The place was casual, the service efficient, and the dinnerware very tidy. We ordered the usual appetizers, hummus, salad, falafel and cheese-filled bread, and Arayes. The falafel was exceptionally crispy, the inside perfectly cooked. The hummus tasted very authentic, and the salad was fresh. We ordered the combo grilled meat platter comprising two skewers of finely spiced and cooked kofta kebab, two skewers of juicy chicken, and beef. A side of rice added a mouth-watering taste to the whole dinner experience. Prices were average. The bathrooms were clean and sanitary. Parking is not easy as Main Street is always full of parked cars. But side streets offer a good alternative. They don't add in the tip or charge a cred card surcharge. Everything was delicious! Probably the best chicken shawarma I've had and I love that everything comes with slightly spicy pickled veggies. My husband ordered the mixed grill but I didn't get to try it because he ate it before I sat down to dinner. We also ordered the Arayes Toushka which is meat and cheese in a pita. Also delicious and new to me, thin pita with a thin layer of meat and cheese that's savory but all has warm spices. Highly recommend! read more

Fries stay crispy even in the to go container AND they give a nice portion of pickled vegetables on the side too! Prices are reasonable, food is great! (The building could use some work but that's on the landlord, not the restaurant owners so hope that can be properly and quickly address, ie there was a leak while we were there but it was evident the management would take care of it asap, hopefully the landlord follows up!)
