Sakina gave me great customer service. The sandwich was really good. the bread was really soft. I hate eating hard bread.

I had the Fiorello (mortadella, fresh mozzarella, caponata of eggplant) on Stirato bread (long, baguette-shaped with a light brown crust with a sourbread, nutty aftertaste). The quality of the food was superb, and the palette true to the simplicity of a real Euro-inspired sandwich. I will absolutely go here for my sandwich cravings. The only thing I was a bit disappointed about was the eggplant-- I expected the caponata to be warmed, and it wasn't, so it didn't feel as hearty. Perhaps next time I'll ask them to warm it up and maybe add some speck for a firmer texture! YUM! read more

Looking for a super tasty food baby to slug down on your lunch break in midtown?! Look no further that alidoro! This place has choices galore and as much as you think you can't eat the other half of the ginormous sandwich you ordered, you do because it's so damn good. I went with the fratelli d'italia, so many flavors going on. So good. Really liked the hot spread and how it mixed with the pesto. My bf got the Gregorio and it really lived up to the claim of "very spicy". The mozzarella here is also on point. Ordered a bulk order on Friday and was told to arrive at 12:04 for pickup. Sandwiches were provided an hour later than they said they would. Upon arrival back at the office we noticed that they provided only half the sandwiches in the order. We had to go back and pick up the second half. All in all this took ~1:30 longer than it should have. All sandwiches were also labeled incorrectly. Most sandwiches were missing requested ingredients. To me it's all about the bread when I go to my favorite deli in Bayonne for an Italian heroe. Overall, four stars for quality and taste of food and atmosphere. A star was deducted for all the points listed below. This is a review after my first time trying Alidoro (there's one down in SoHo apparently). I went there during morning hours and so only ordered from the limited breakfast menu and coffee. I'll start with the outstanding factors: First off, quality of food and drinks were superb. Coffee tasted great! Much better than any other shop within a 3 block radius (Starbucks, 2Beans, Pret a manger) and it's not too expensive (if you're in NYC, you're likely accustomed to Starbucks prices!). Sandwiches also were tasty. Good quality ingredients--I ordered the Maria and the Chiara (two out of the four breakfast options; the other two had hot peppers in them). They were made on a brioche bun and the combo of flavors (esp the Chiara which had pesto) was flavorful. Second of all, the atmosphere is very charming. Decor --from the light fixtures and tables to the wall paper --are very NY chic and comfortable. It has a cozy coffee shop feel (minus couch seating) combined with Le Pain Quotidien (not as commercialized or rowdy and the lighting to warmer than LPQ's). Music was calm and happy--think jazz tunes and Sinatra songs. Some other observations and things for improvement: This place closes early and is closed on weekends! Apparently it closes at 5 pm so it's really for the midtown working crowd (mornings and lunch hour). Service was okay. There was one guy in the front making everyone's coffee and he was happy and nice (greeting everyone with a smile and asking what they wanted) but the other people there weren't as kind. As a new restaurant, I feel like the manager (who was walking around and saw each customer come in) should at least say hello or good morning esp as a new shop--generate some loyalty! Breakfast sandwiches were made to order so it took some time and for those on the run, it's not a good option. Wait time was too long for the average midtowner who needs to get to work. They should take the names of people so that they can shout out the names once sandwiches are ready for pick up so that customers can sit down and don't need to wait by counter--esp since it take like 5-7 minutes for a sandwich to be made. Breakfast sandwiches were small! Think White Castle hamburgers. They are cheap at $3 but they are about 3 inches in diameter with one egg and any other topping depending on the sandwich--certainly not enough for an adult. It would make more sense to just make it bigger and charge customers more for something substantial and satisfying. Flavors are great nevertheless so I would still recommend them. However, I would rather just go to nearby Cafe Zaiya or Pret a Manger to pay more for more satisfying sandwich. Limited baked goods in the front by the cashier though one is able to order off the menu which offers more croissant, baked good type options. They should display them though! No wifi. There's clearly wifi but it's not public. Fortunately, for those who subscribe to Time Warner Cable (never thought I'd say something positive re TWC), there's TWC a wifi nearby and you can use it hair by logging into your account. It's free btw and it's strong enough for browsing (at least during morning hours), but not sure if you can stream-I didn't try. For those w laptop, I didn't see any outlets. read more

I got a $17 hot sandwich yesterday, an "Italian cheesesteak" on whole wheat. And... I get it, whole wheat is hard to properly and artfully toast. What I received was burnt *black*. My refrigerator still smells like charcoal. This is somewhat mitigated not by the roast beef, which is also charred to unrecognizability, but by a garlic sauce so potent it must be classified by the OPCW as a chemical weapon. It is, in a word, inedible. Way overseasoned and cooked by a a flamethrower with impulse control issues. Fortunately it was a business expense, or I would be far less pleased than I already am. read more

Such a yummy Italian sandwich shop! I have been following @alidoro on Instagram for a while and have been fantasizing about trying one of their sandwiches!! I got the sandwich with prosciutto, soprasatta, peppers and olive paste and it was soo good! The inside of the restaurant is super trendy and cute but I took mine to go since it's right next to Bryant park. It comes wrapped in a cute gold foil and put inside a brown sandwich bag. It is a pretty big sandwich but they cut in in half so it's easy to also save for Later!! They also do build your own sandwiches which looked good too! read more

This place is charming and makes good sandwiches (with prices to match), and certainly is very busy. However, I had to wait an hour for my sandwich. This was not just me, but the people around me as well. Second time coming here, both times I really enjoyed my sandwich. Last time I got the Gregorio(which i didn't see on the menu this time) and the Enzo this time. Everything is super fresh, a bit pricey(mine was about $14 and my girlfriends was $19) but the sandwiches are pretty huge. Both times I got the spicy sandwich and they had a little kick. The place has limited seating but I've never had trouble finding a seat because everyone seems to get takeout, probably because the spot is only open on weekdays during lunch time so everyone is grabbing it and going back to work. My girlfriend got La bomba, which didn't have a lot of taste when I had some of it. read more

Okay! So this review has been LONG overdue! As a native Ny'er who grew up walking distance from Little Italy, I have to say Alidoro is the BEST FRESH TO ORDER Italian sandwich shop in NYC!!! Always fresh, always DELICIOUS. The staff at the 39th Street location are wonderful. I met one of the owners John. He is a Jersey Boy with a NYC flair. Very personable and knows how to run an extremely popular business! Quality is paramount! Over the past 2+ years, I have tried several of their sandwiches...All great. Alidoro is a great change of pace from American Delis around town with plenty of sandwich selections and friendly service, but minus one star for sandwiches being $20 dollars and getting a slightly disappointing ingredients to bread ratio. It also seems like the sandwich selections are hit or miss. The chicken parm sandwich came with pretty dried out chicken, but the roast beef cheesesteak used pretty high quality ingredients. Extra shout out to the employees because they were incredibly friendly, but I don't see myself coming here as often due to the points above. read more

Placed an order for Build Your Own sandwich on "Aldoro" website for pick up at Lexington Avenue location. I immediately received a confirmation text stating my order is being prepared. Right after received another text with pick up time, also stating you will receive a text when your order is ready. When I arrived to pick up my sandwich and informed the cashier of pick up. She asked my name, after checking she said "are you sure? This is the sandwich shop. I replied I'm aware and proceeded to show her the text. She called a colleague over and announced, she has an order and it's not here. Her colleague (no introduction), began to check at the register amnd proceeded to ask if I was at the right location. I told her I ordered on website for this location, showed her the text which confirmed the location was correct. Wait, it gets better . She now calls someone to dicuss next steps, after speaking on the phone, she informs me that I ordered through a "3rd party" and the bread I selected "they don't even sell (not offer) any more!!! By now I don't even want the sandwich. However I didn't even want to consider what would happen if I requested a refund. She proceeded to tell me (very reluctantly) she could go ahead and make my sandwich (as is she was doing a favor). Needless to say the service and communication rates poorly, as for the sandwich, not that much better than a New York Bodega. read more

Immediately after I walked in the door here there were serious flashbacks happening to my time spent in Italy. Alidoro knows what's up! Talk about authentic ingredients and the freshest taste. The combinations all sounded so good I had a hard time making up my mind, and as a result I ended up with a $20 something dollar sandwich!!! Okay, even I gotta admit, that's a little pricey. However between the unbelievable wait (due to the hype) and the price I just can't recommend. I've had better. Much better. Had the Matthew and some veggie one. "smoked chicken breast" - it's a chicken cold cut. It's not an actual chicken breast. Sandwiches have fresh ingredients that aren't typically available elsewhere (especially the Italian meats). probably imported from Italy. The hot sandwiches are my favorite and the bread is fresh. however Service is not great. We usually get there fairly early to beat the rush but they still take about 20/30 mins to prepare a sandwich with three to four ingredients . think they're busy preparing for large catering orders. I stopped by this restaurant at lunch time and I will tell you it gets very crowded.  However, they're pretty organized for such a big crowd and the food is very very good! I ordered the Pinocchio Sandwich, which is Prosciutto, olive and red peppers on a crusty Italian Bread.  It was fresh and delicious.  I walked over to Bryant Park and ate my sandwich and drink there.  Wonderful New York City lunch time. The service is brisk, but they're so rushed and doing a good job at getting through all the people waiting and ordering. This is by far my favorite lunch spot in the entire city. The massive variety of ingredients they offer are all very fresh and you can choose whether you would like a "hot" or "cold" sandwich. The employees are always so nice and welcoming. They get pretty busy at lunch, so the wait time is a little bit longer (on a really busy day, estimate 10-15 minutes to receive your food). Although they get really busy (which makes sense because who wouldn't want lunch from Alidoro?!), the service is still great and the restaurant is kept exceptionally clean. I highly recommend Alidoro! ... I actually think I just talked myself into going there for lunch tomorrow! I work around the corner and decided to order take-out from Alidoro. I opted for the spicy Gregario and it came out to be right under $15 (a little expensive for a sandwich). The sandwich itself was good but nothing amazing. The advertised spiciness was accurate (nothing insane but back some heat). I ordered take-out AFTER the lunch rush so I didn't experience any major delays, etc. but I've seen Alidoro get super packed around 12:30 - 1:30 p.m. so be wary if you want an Alidoro sandwich around this time. Would I go again? Maybe but there are a ton of sandwich spots in the area that are more reasonably priced so I will probably explore the area more before coming back. read more
