This review echoes the one written on 10/11/13 given by Jean Pierre regarding poor customer service at the front door. I don't know him, but we were the people he referred to as standing in line behind him. Our daughter plays a varsity sport at a nearby college and we stopped in here after a game to give it a try. When we entered the front door, there was one customer standing/waiting in front of us, but no host or hostess in sight. The restaurant was very busy and the time was approximately 7:30 PM. The hostess station is poorly located in that it happens to be at a major crossroads for wait staff coming and going from the kitchen and bar area. That means as a customer coming in the door, if you stand next to the hostess station, you are in the way and need to step back. That said, we waited for about 15 minutes for the hostess to show up. During that time, several waitresses stopped to speak to us, assuring us the hostess would be right with us. When she finally came out front from the kitchen area, she looked past the guy in front of us who happened to be black. She asked us if we had a reservation. My wife said that the other guy was in front of us. He and the hostess spoke for about a minute and then he left. It was clear he was very unhappy, most likely because he was ignored for quite some time, but he took the high road and acted in a very polite manner. The hostess then turned to us and again asked us if we had a reservation. We said no, as we were trying the restaurant for the first time. She said she didn't have any tables available. My wife said it would have been nice if somebody would have been at the front hostess station when we walked in so that we didn't have to wait 15 minutes to find out there weren't any tables. Her response was "Well, I'm sorry but I was on the phone." For 15 minutes in the back kitchen? Her explanation didn't seem credible. I can understand the restaurant being busy, and understand that there weren't any tables. Our bad. But the hostess's attitude seemed pretty flip, so much so that we crossing this restaurant off the list of places to go in that area. There are too many other good choices. With respect to the possibility of her having a racist attitude as the other reviewer suggested, let's put it this way. What she did to him was humiliating and embarrassing and if 10 people saw the whole episode, I'm guessing more than a few of them would have thought that was the case. One could also argue that it was more a case of not being good at her job and that she's a poster girl for the Peter Principle. Hopefully that was the case. Last point, the waitresses and cooks all seemed to be working hard doing there jobs trying to please the customers. Three waitresses stopped to talk to the customers at the front door during that 15 minute period. Nice to know that someone cared, too bad they weren't given the authority to seat customers while the hostess was away on her phone call. read more
