Aloha Fresh has always been one of my favorite spots, especially back in 2017 when they were still in Cupertino. I'd go at least twice a month for lunch since it wasn't too far from my school. They marinate the fish and it is always so flavorful. I always get the Poke Lover with the crab salad and pickled onions. For the fish, I've tried Kakui Nut Ahi, Hawaiian Ahi, Spicy Salmon, and Kalbi Ahi. I liked all of them except for the Kalbi Ahi. The marinade is really similar to what they would use in KBBQ, and it was really confusing to eat. Workers are always super friendly and can get the line moving quickly. I've had Aloha Fresh bookmarked for about a year now ever since I first heard about them from a random TikTok video. The girl in the video raved about the poke nachos, and I was hooked! Today I walked over from my boyfriend's place which was .6 miles away. It was nice day for a walk anyways, and I need to get my steps in anyways. Lol I got there about 11:18am, and there were a handful of people in line. The staff are friendly, helpful, and pretty fast. The place is a grab and go type of spot. No seats or tables in there. The wife and I have been in the bay for 6 years and this is our go to poke spot, whenever we come back down to the South Bay, we make a stop here. I always get the pokers lovers bowl. 2 poke choices and 2 sides. You can choose from different "bases". White or brown rice or salad. The unique ahi flavor is the Kalbi, think of it as savory and soy based ahi. Kakui nut reminds me of traditional poke in Hawaii. Spicy salmon is a spicy mayo based salmon poke. Side dishes include Lomi lomi salmon (tomato's and chopped salmon pieces), "ocean salad" which is seaweed salad, and Mac salad to name a few. I also love their butter mochi. Either the guava or the Iilikoi are solid. They do a promo if you order 3 versus just one. Interior is counter top service. Basically walk in the line and order the food and walk to the cashier. All their fish is so clean, all the flavors are bold without overwhelming the true essence of the tuna, salmon, or shrimp, and this is definitely the closest thing you can get here in San Jose comparable to Hawaii. This spot is located in the strip of Japantown, downtown, and has limited parking if you're going on a weekend, as a heads up. The store itself is small and is more of a grab-and-go with no seating. You enter and head straight to the back to order with their staff, and then once they pack everything up, you pay at the counter. You can order their poke bowls, hot bar food (which is pretty delicious - I like the salt and vinegar chicken), their poke nachos (which are trending, but it's not my favorite), and/or you can buy poke by weight (¼ lb-1 lb increments), which is what I usually do. At the end, you can also order musubis or their butter mochis (actually so bomb)! They have a variety of poke flavors you can try, but I will say my favorites are the Kalbi and the Smokey poke, those are the most unique. After reading so many reviews about their poke nachos, we had to try them for ourselves -- and they did not disappoint! The location is right on the strip of all the Japantown stores, which makes it a fun stop while walking around. We visited Aloha Fresh in San Jose Japantown after seeing all the hype on TikTok, and when we arrived there was already a long line out the door--about 20 people ahead of us. From start to finish, it took roughly 30 minutes to order and get our food, partly because they ran out of spicy salmon, which slowed things down even more. We tried the spicy salmon, spicy ahi tuna, scallop, the popular "um nachos" (poke served over wonton chips--the main reason we came), butter mochi, and Korean fried chicken. Overall, most of the food was pretty tasty and the pricing felt fair. However, the scallop was a miss. It had a strong seafood, "sea" taste that didn't feel fresh and left an uncomfortable aftertaste. Because of that, we ended up throwing it away. The Korean fried chicken was also disappointing. It came out immediately and wasn't hot--or even warm--which made it clear it wasn't freshly cooked. As for the um nachos, they were good, but not groundbreaking. I've had similar poke-and-wonton-chip combinations before, whether in taco form or plated differently. This felt more like a trendy fusion take than something truly new or standout. I wouldn't say it's better than other poke places--it just happens to be having a viral moment. The space itself is very casual. There's no indoor seating, so everyone eats outside on benches and tables. Parking in the area is tricky, mostly paid street parking unless you find a nearby neighborhood spot. On the positive side, the staff was friendly and service was polite--it was just really slow due to how crowded it was. Been here a few times now and I'll definitely keep coming back. The poke is always super fresh and tasty. Just be prepared for the lines because this place gets busy. If you're buying a lot, you can always pop across the street to Nijiya Market and grab something frozen to help keep the poke cold on the way home. Guess what?!?! I think I finally found Nemo. Aloha Fresh in Japan town is just a block or two away from Santo Market making my expectations high. Although I stand Santo market (because my name is in it) Im a huge fan of Poke Nachos with wonton chips and Aloha Fresh has just that. What I dont like is that you have to go in person to get the poke nachos which makes sense so that your wonton chips dont go soggyy, but I do wish that they would at least give you the option to purchase a side of wonton chips online and delivery orders. Aloha Fresh has a lot more flavors and kinds of Poke to choose from along with fresh warm musubis. There is no option to sit in and dine here as the restaurant is similar to Poke House with no seating arrangements. not to worry though.because there's lots of benches around the area with shade. Aloha Fresh is my favorite poke in the Bay, and honestly just as good as the ones I've had in Hawaii. I always get the spicy salmon, but the shoyu tuna is also really good. I love that they have a bunch of different flavors, and everything tastes super fresh every time. There's usually a line out the door, and they do close pretty early, so I try to go earlier in the day. It's definitely more of a takeout spot, but if you walk across the street corned, there's a bunch of seating by a little playground, which makes a really nice place to eat. read more
