Poke nachos, 3. Surf 'n Turf , Butter Mochi
    Amy C.

I've had Aloha Fresh bookmarked for about a year now ever since I first heard about them from a random TikTok video. The girl in the video raved about the poke nachos, and I was hooked! Today I walked over from my boyfriend's place which was .6 miles away. It was nice day for a walk anyways, and I need to get my steps in anyways. Lol I got there about 11:18am, and there were a handful of people in line. The staff are friendly, helpful, and pretty fast. The place is a grab and go type of spot. No seats or tables in there. It looks clean and welcoming. I got the following items: -Poke Nachos w/ Spicy Shoyu Ahi - delicious & crunchy -Surf & Turf Bowl w/ Kahui Nui Ahi (?), Korean Fried Chicken, Mac Salad, & Pickled Onions - very tasty but I liked the spicy shoyu ahi more as far as poke goes -Butter Mochi- heavenly yummy :) Both the nachos and bowl were filled up to the brim! I absolutely love the Butter Mochi so much! They were my fave. I will definitely return again, but next time I'll get a smaller bowl because I couldn't finish the food as it was too much for me. Haha :)

A little taste of Hawaii!!! The poke was fresh, delicious, and delicate. The star of the menu was the nachos. A must try when you stop by.

Closest thing you'll get to being in Hawaii. They even have written on the wall that the ahi is flown in from Hawaii. The wife and I have been in the bay for 6 years and this is our go to poke spot, whenever we come back down to the South Bay, we make a stop here. I always get the pokers lovers bowl. 2 poke choices and 2 sides. You can choose from different "bases". White or brown rice or salad. The unique ahi flavor is the Kalbi, think of it as savory and soy based ahi. Kakui nut reminds me of traditional poke in Hawaii. Spicy salmon is a spicy mayo based salmon poke. Side dishes include Lomi lomi salmon (tomato's and chopped salmon pieces), "ocean salad" which is seaweed salad, and Mac salad to name a few. I also love their butter mochi. Either the guava or the Iilikoi are solid. They do a promo if you order 3 versus just one. Interior is counter top service. Basically walk in the line and order the food and walk to the cashier. No where to sit inside, you'll find plenty of benches and other areas to sit and eat outside. Support local business and come through, you will not be disappointed! BE WARNED parking enforcement is active in the area. Everytime we've come, there's a bike cop, so make sure to feed your meter.

The Most Delicious Poke in San Jose Aloha Fresh has quickly become my favorite poke place in the Bay Area. The fish pieces are large and well seasoned. My favorite flavor is the Kukui Nut, especially on the salmon. I also think they're mac salad and ocean salad have great flavors. They offer butter mochi and spam musubi as well. 2 poke and 2 sides are $20. They also sell poke by the pound. The place can get a bit busy at lunch time but when it's less full the workers are very nice! This is more of a grab-and-go type of place, so no seating. This is the best poke by far in SJ!

Aloha Fresh has the right to claim its freshness! I have been coming to this spot for years and truly believe the quality has not declined at all. All their fish is so clean, all the flavors are bold without overwhelming the true essence of the tuna, salmon, or shrimp, and this is definitely the closest thing you can get here in San Jose comparable to Hawaii. This spot is located in the strip of Japantown, downtown, and has limited parking if you're going on a weekend, as a heads up. The store itself is small and is more of a grab-and-go with no seating. You enter and head straight to the back to order with their staff, and then once they pack everything up, you pay at the counter. You can order their poke bowls, hot bar food (which is pretty delicious - I like the salt and vinegar chicken), their poke nachos (which are trending, but it's not my favorite), and/or you can buy poke by weight (¼ lb-1 lb increments), which is what I usually do. At the end, you can also order musubis or their butter mochis (actually so bomb)! They have a variety of poke flavors you can try, but I will say my favorites are the Kalbi and the Smokey poke, those are the most unique. Overall, this is the number one spot I recommend for people to go when they stop by SJ!

Poke is always yummy here!! Fave is the spicy salmon and the poke nachoes is amazing. Has fried wonton chips and topped with sauces and sidesss. Can't stop thinking about it lol Quick and friendly service! It's service only and no seats but there's a close by park walking distance as well.

I had a chance to try Aloha Fresh and it was delicious. If you are looking for fresh fish and different varieties of poke, this is a great spot to try. The service is fast and ambiance is casual, so take out is how we had it! We tried a poke bowl with seaweed salad and Mac salad with the tuna shoyu poke and the spicy salmon. This also came with rice and every bite was delicious. The fish quality here is definitely top notch and I felt one of the best I have had in the bay. Will go back to try the poke nachos!

I crave poke nachos and don't know if any other place that serves them other than Aloha Fresh in Japantown! The portion size is also phenomenal! You can also get an extra side of chips for $5 and I suggest you do so. Get an extra side of crab salad and your fave poke too to boot ! Everyone is so friendly and helpful here even when the line is to the door and it's 5:55PM, 5 mins before closing. That says a lot about their character and work ethic! Run don't walk!

In your face Hawaii vibes. Walking in it instantly reminded me of the poke places in Kauai and Oahu. If you are thinking tiki torches or other kitchy styling you are wrong. Its more like you are walking into a deli but the special is poke. Subtle. Straightforward. But good food. The fish was super fresh and the regular types were present along with their own proprietary blends. Expect prices to be close to market price such as $20 large poke bowls but it so good. The poke nachos were great. The salmon and protion was perfect at $14. The fried wonton chips were perfect that added the right flavor amd crunch. Big cuts of spicy salmon in the nachos ensured poke in every bite. The staff were friendly and answered questions. We definitely would come back for the nachos because where we live cant compare.

This place is located in downtown SJ Japantown so the parking can be a bit hard to find sometimes but if you go during the day on a weekday, it should be fine! Parking is meter only though so make sure you pay for your parking. The poke nachos here have been going viral and it definitely lives up to the hype. The fish was very fresh (I got the spicy salmon). I also really appreciated how crunchy the won ton chips were (it was giving ASMR). My thing that got me was the price point. This cost me ~$16 total with tax and tip. Other than that, service was pretty friendly and quick. There are no seats inside the place, so you can eat outside or in your car. I will definitely be back if I'm in the area to try the tako poke since that did catch my eye when I was deciding on what to get but instead ultimately went for the spicy salmon.

This isn't my first time trying this place, but after a few visits I feel like I finally have a more well-rounded opinion of it. The biggest thing for me is the pricing. Bowls are pretty expensive for what you get. Around $17 for 1 poke + 1 side, or over $20 for 2 pokes + 2 sides. At that point, it almost feels like you might as well spend the extra few dollars for the larger option. Service is straightforward: you order, they scoop, you pay. The staff is friendly enough, but it's definitely more of a quick grab-and-go setup. There's no indoor seating, so plan on taking your food elsewhere. Also, make sure to ask for utensils because they don't automatically include them. One thing I do appreciate is that they offer more unique poke options, including scallops, which can be hard to find at other poke spots. That said, the flavors overall felt a bit underwhelming and didn't really stand out the way I expected. Sides: * Lomi Lomi Salmon (+ extra charge) - Honestly disappointing. It tasted mostly like chopped tomatoes with barely any salmon present. It reminded me more of pico de gallo without lime. I wouldn't recommend paying extra for this. * Crab Salad (+ extra charge) - Pretty standard and hard to mess up, though definitely mayo-heavy. Poke: * Spicy Salmon - Not actually spicy, but the flavor profile is a little different from the usual spicy salmon you get elsewhere. Less mayo-heavy, which I appreciated, and the salmon itself was buttery. * Tako - As someone who loves tako poke, this one felt bland and underseasoned. There's a slight heat to it, but overall it lacked flavor. Overall, I can see the appeal for people looking for different poke options, but considering the price point and flavor, it probably wouldn't be one of my regular poke spots.

I've been coming here over the years whenever my friends wanted to revisit this place but to be honest, I still don't see the quality in this place. The most recent time I went, the service was mediocre and the lady was being condescending and rushing us for no reason. The fish here also does not taste super fresh, I don't know if it's just me but it always leave a sort of foul taste in my mouth. I just don't think the fish quality is here is super high or super fresh. Although I do see the appeal in getting a bowl of poke and sitting outside on one of the benches in Japantown to take a minute and eat, maybe not with this poke. Needless to say, I don't think I'll be coming back here anytime soon.

Poke Lovers Bowl -- All Masago Wasabi Ahi Poke (1/2 salad, 1/2 black rice), Mac Salad, and Namasu
    Jason H.

I keep wanting to give them another chance, but the quality continues to go downhill. Do they sample what they're serving? The Masago Wasabi Ahi Poke flavor appears to be back, but the black rice was hard and clumpy -- like not enough water added when being cooked. Perhaps going between 5-6 pm is the problem. Nothing seems fresh if one goes too close to closing time (6 pm.) If I have to leave the house in the morning to get good poke, I'll just get in line at Santo Market!

Ask the Community - Aloha Fresh

Is the poke nachos still available? I don't see it on DoorDash anymore 😭

Yes, for some reason they removed it from doordash but if you go in person it is still there. I think since it went viral and it is a small store they did not like the extra traffic.

Does Aloha Fresh offer poke only per lbs?

By the pound ($23-$26/lb) or set bowls that are not by weight. You can get a partial pound too; don't have to buy whole pound of it.

Do they still serve Hawaiian honey cones?

Sorry, not at this moment! That was a special pop-up.

Do you guys sell party tray of butter mochi?

    yes! a tray of 24 for $48

Is all the poke made with soy sauce? Is there any gluten free options?

There are multiple poke options that do not contain soy sauce such as: Hawaiian ahi…

How busy is the place and has the quality or freshness gone down since quarantine?

The place is still busy and fresh! I've gone a few times on weekends and there's always a line. You can order ahead online and pick up.

Are there any vegetarian plant-based "hot food items" like tofu available?

RANG Final…read moreThoughts: 4.50/5 Review for Rang. They have weekly matcha pop ups at Rose Tea Lounge. Original location is in Elk Grove, but they are here in San Jose area. Kind of hard to see and find them? given that there aren't really any signs posted outside. I perhaps wouldn't have known about it if my friend didn't tell me about it. Drink: Guava Matcha Einspanner: 4.5/5 This is their matcha with house-made guava puree at the bottom and topped with silky guava foam. Their foam is so nice and creamy. Felt very light and just thick enough. Silky consistency that mixed well with the drink. My friend noted that they make it fairly sweet, so I opted for the 25%. This was still quite sweet for me. Each component is sweet itself, so when you combine it, its mostly just sweet. No tartness to cut any of it. Perhaps the guava has something to do with that. Guava is a sweet fruit in general, so I seemed to expect as much. The matcha itself had a nice color to it. Very vibrant. Light bitterness. Lovely consistency overall. I like each component separately and I like them together when it's fully combined. Strawberry Matcha Einspanner: 4.5/5 This was my friends drink and I also really liked it. Had to try it for my review purposes. Per their Door Dash description, this is their matcha latte with their home-made strawberry puree and topped with velvety strawberry foam. There really wasn't much of a difference with this one and mine besides the fruit. His was slightly more tart than mine, which is something I like. Again, the drink itself leans more on the sweet side, so any sort of tartness would be nice to cut some of that. Matcha color is amazing. Nice and vibrant. Lovely silky consistency. I like the ratio of fruit flavor and matcha. Some places will make it just taste like milk, others have an imbalance of flavors. This one was just right for me. --------- Quality: Ceremonial Matcha and whisked to order We saw them whisk the matcha to order. Not really a display cooking kind of counter, but they do do all of that in the front where the cashiers are. You are able to watch if you so choose. I do like the matcha that they use, so it seems like a high quality one. That or it's because they aren't batching their matcha like other places. I understand that batching doesn't make it lower quality, but something about whisking it fresh is always better. Price: Average Will depend on the drink, but the prices are around $7 to $9. For our drinks, average around $8.25 per drink. Quite a common price range for a cup of matcha. This one was made well, so no complaints here. There was no upcharge for the oatmilk, which is always a plus for us. Service: Whisked matcha fresh No interactions today. We ordered directly on the kiosk and then just waited for our drinks to come out. Something that I like is that they whisk and make the matcha in front of us. Kind of hard to see, given my height and spot that we were standing, but they do whisk it in the front for us. Of note, they use this hand towel or cloth to wipe the bowls. Not sure how sanitation does with that, but I digress. Just an observation for today. Ambiance: Quaint Flower Café Vibes This place is giving very quaint flower café vibes. I would totally work here if I could work from home or if I needed to study. Space is incredibly spacious on the inside contrary to how the outside and plaza area is looking. Little dim lit inside, but that might be from the little lighting that's hitting through the windows given the angle and evening sun. Location/Parking: Small Plaza This place is like a pop-up/collaboration with Rose Tea Lounge. There's really no label for it outside of the storefront, but when you go into the café and on the kiosk, you can directly order from them. Kind of interesting how it works and I probably would have never seen it if my friend didn't bring me here. Location is not the best as it is right in a smaller plaza on the side of Story Road near the 101 freeway. At least they chose an area that is slightly less saturated. Vietnam Town is really close by and they really do have too much going on over there sometimes. Parking lot is also small, but it seems to work well with the smaller plaza size.
