Alonso's has been my car repair choice for 3 years (3 cars) for reliable service, however, they have recently made several mistakes so I can not recommend them. - They mis-diagnosed a bad AC Compressor as an engine noise problem, even recommended the engine be re-built!! - They mis-read cylinder compression tests - telling me they were only 90 to 115. I use to be a frequent customer here for Oil changes. I had them check my car on a loud clicking noise my Prius was making. As per this auto shop my Pruis needed new breaks to remove this clicking noise. I paid about $240.00 for breaks. The next day I realized THE NOISE and CLICKING was 100% still there. I told the rep 'The noise and the clicking is still there. I'm sure your company tossed my old breaks so it is what it is. New breaks not needed but what can I do." Please let the owner know know the noise never went away. His response, Ok. Did the company follow a steps a good company would of calling me back?? Of course NOT. I went to Toyota dealership in Claremont the next week and they informed me it was the Axel and it was still under warranty. They replaced it and the clicking noise went away. They said for them to say it was the breaks, they don't know their stuff. I'm writing my review a few months later. Reason being I don't want people to experience what I did. I would NOT RECOMMEND this place if you need vehicle repairs. I WASTED $240 ON REPAIRS NOT NEEDED TO SOLVE MY PROBLEM AND THIS CAN BE YOU NEXT. Best of luck. 04.14.23 My response to Freddy. I had a Toyota Highlander that was acting funny. I had already taken it to two place and they couldn't find the issue. Alonso's did!! I couldn't fix the car because the issue was worth more than half of the car value. My only concern with Alonso's found in this service is pricing. As what they found was so big I had to get their findings qualified. Once I did, the other Master Machanic quoted me about $1000 dollars less for the work. That is a little concerning since he had no clue what Alonso's offered me to do the work. So in short, for diagnostics and quality of work 5 starts, 1 star docked for pricing. As quality is more important to me, I might be back and if I find the cost is reasonable in that new engagement, than I will up my stars to 5. read more

Update: I'm lowering my rating to one star after reading their response, which I count as part of customer service. Whoever answered should have noticed that I clearly admitted to my mistake. My rating was not based on that misunderstanding but on your high prices. Just because another shop charges less, it does not mean that they're behind on technology or that they have less experience than you. Do you know which shop I go to? Who said it was a yard mechanic? What makes you think that they're less than you? Your sense of superiority sickens me. Maybe they just don't like to stiff their customers, did you ever think of that? Just out of curiosity I called my mechanic today and had him quote exactly what you described on your response, he quoted me $280 for all four wheels, parts and labor included, one year warranty. That should help you understand how I could possibly think that the $272.69 that you charged me for only the back brakes could cover all four. Next time you should actually read the review before you go on the defensive. Your lack of understanding just cost you one star I had given you for customer service. read more

Had an issue where my car just would not start. It was after hours and I am not familiar with mechanics in Upland. I chose Alonso's Auto Repair based on the reviews and I was not disappointed. I had my car towed their this morning, Eileen took my information over the phone while I waited for the tow truck . When I arrived both Eileen and Alby were there to take my car, no haste no issues. Asked if I approved diagnostic fee, I said I would . Alby called me a few hours later advising that the issue could not be replicated . When I arrived to pick up the car I expected to pay some sort of fee. Nothing is free right ?! Well I was so pleasantly surprised that the team at Alonso's didn't charge me. I've taken my automobiles to Alonso's several times and each time I've been treated fairly, received excellent service, and competitive prices. They go above and beyond fixing small things they found without charge. The most recent they informed me when I picked up my car that the brake light was out. They repaired it without charge. They could have called ahead, and gave me a quote to repair. Instead they just informed me they replaced it at no charge. Not a lot of money...just plain old customer service! I found this place after looking for a fast and available fix for my Honda Fit's Serpentine belt. When I called, the attendant was very accommodating, and told me they had availability for the same day. When I arrived, they took my car in right away, and were done in less than two hours. Their waiting room has WiFi, and soft drinks as well as a television. They topped up the fluids in my car as well. I took my car to Alonzo's for service and repair when I lived in Upland. I moved to the Central Valley three years ago but continue to take it to Alonzo's for maintenance when I visit So cal. I've never been disappointed. Repairs and maintenance are done in a timely manner. Customer service is excellent. After recent maintenance I heard a grinding noise after leaving the shop. I called and talked to Freddie who told me to bring it back. On my way back - No noise. I considered not bringing back but decided to do so. They were great with customer service. Did an oil change, topped off fluids and did a tire rotation for a great price. My air filters were bad and they called to confirm I wanted changing and even sent pictures before doing. They then informed me of my rear shocks leaking and suggested I take it to my dealership since it was under warranty. That was a little pricey but definitely worth it.. iv been to multi mechanics and have had to go back with in the same week because job wasn't done rite.. Long story cut short, F%#@ FREDDY!!! Took my impala in to get diagnosed only to have him tell me AFTER having my car all day that yup I have dtc code P0420. WTF!?! I told you that much... And when I asked how much it'll be, he made up some ridiculous price of $1400 for repairs, oh and that my car isn't worth putting the money into, last thing when I asked where do you get your prices from? My car was due for an oil change and tire rotation but I knew something else was wrong when I would drive. I can hear it and feel it as i drove slow. So it was inevitable any mechanic would find what was wrong. As they did! My axle boot was torn and my tires had a huge gash from the inside! I would've never noticed! They gave me a quote on the maintenance and i found it very reasonable compared to others! My car came out brand new and I'm pleased with their service and reasonable prices! I even brought my brother in law with me and he's bringing his two cars in for their service. I've been meaning to find a local mechanic instead of relying at the Stealerships. Alonso was nice, informative and amazing!! I originally took my car somewhere else and did not like the estimate they gave me. Alonso's auto repair was willing to take a look at the their estimate to see if they were overcharging me, which they were, by A LOT. I immediately picked up my car from the other auto repair shop and took it to Alonso's. Lesson learned: I should've taken my car to Alonso's in the first place. They got me a Lyft to take me home and always kept me updated on the progress of my car and other issues they found. Overall, easy and wonderful experience. read more

I was having issues with my vehicle overheating for past year and I've taken it to Firestone 3 times. After visiting Firestone for the 3rd time and them not being able to identify the issue I decided to take my vehicle elsewhere. I did my research and I found Alonso's and boy am I glad I did. From the time I walked into the door until the time I picked up my vehicle the customer service was exceptional. Service advisor Helen was awesome. Not only did she have a beautiful smile and calm demeanor, she was very knowledgeable and walked me through the whole process and made sure I was calm and informed. She ensured me that they would identify the issue and they did within 24 hours. Basically what Firestone wasn't able to identify in a year Alsono's identify and fixed the issue in 24 hours. Long story short I will recommend Alsono's to friends and family. I'm giving 4 for now. When I do my follow up with Helen in two weeks I will give my final review. read more

Our son is a student in Claremont and his car needed repair work so we took it to Alonso's given their great star rating on Yelp. We were not disappointed as the service and treatment (pricing) were very fair. They delivered the car on time as stated and the total bill was actually a bit less than the original stated estimate which was a pleasant surprise. The shop is clean and well managed. They have a "hi-tech" sign-in/registration system which is easy to use and ensures they collect the proper information about your vehicle as well as your contact information. It is nice to know my son has a reputable place to take the car while at school should he need help as mom and dad are 2,000 miles away and can't be there to help out! On a side note: the young lady being helped ahead of us was given a couple choices on the work that could be done and the pricing. To my surprise (pleasantly) he recommended she just do the work for the lower cost estimate rather than the bigger more expensive alternative. Apparently it wasn't going to make the car any less safe to drive but was still going to repair the car. Nice to see a shop not gouge or take advantage of its customers! read more

The importance of choosing a right mechanic is up there as choosing your mate ( maybe, but I wrote it, there's no going back now). Alonso's might be the one. I came to Alonso's for a replacement of a leaking waterpump. This was my 1st time coming to Alonso's and the experience has been positive.The advisers at the front are very professional along with being personable. The adviser provided a clear roadmap on how the repair will be completed and advised me if any other repairs will be needed.They kept me updated and told me what kind of repairs I need and more importantly, what I don't need. Once completed, I got a warranty on the parts and LABOR. Labor is the more expensive of the two. As for anyone who gets anything replaced on your car, It's best practice for the consumer and the shop that you ask for the old part. It was my fault in failing to ask for my old part. I don't know if the free drink or free wifi is still at the waiting area because I didn't stay long enough to verify. They were very efficient and I barely sat down in the waiting area when they told me that they are ready to drop me to my house. And that's another good thing about Alonso's and patronizing your local businesses. If you live within 5 miles of the shop, they can drop you to your house when your car needs to stay overnight. So, when I need another repair on my 94 corolla or my 16 civic, I will definitely be taking it to Alonso's. I'm sure that anyone who goes to this shop will be a fan. read more

Great experience! Though I didn't do any money exchanging business with this company, I am fully satisfied with our interaction. I'm from Northern California, down here visiting family when my check engine light came on.. Alonso's auto repair simply checked the codes for me and gave me honest answers. Knowing I had no time to get work done, they honestly said my car will run fine till I get back to my home town the next day. Best part, free! HONEST, AMAZING CUSTOMER SERVICE, ACCOMMODATING, and TECH SAVY. I am a first time customer. It was an emergency situation. I live in Arcadia but was commuting to work and my clutch had given out so I needed to service it out in Upland. I looked around in Yelp and the reviews were pretty accurate. Diagnostics- My brother had already diagnosed the problem and said this is what will need to be done. He told me the price range of the work that should be done. When they had diagnosed the problem and quoted the price, THEY WERE RIGHT ON. They later found other issues as well and provided me with different options knowing that I needed to save some money. Juan Nava serviced my car, he did an amazing job, my car is running so smoothly. I can definitely feel the difference. He also later showed me the part that he replaced and gave me an explanation of what had occurred. Price- As stated, my brother told me what I should expect and they were right on. They also have a 10% discount for first time customers(woo hoo) and they had a separate deal on yelp as well. Customer service- Both Helen and Sooyin(?) had helped me with the process of getting my car checked in and out, communicating with me (they knew that I was a teacher and asked if I would prefer text messages... YES!! helped the process tremendously), and even shuttling me to work and pick up. They were NOT PUSHY! Patient and understanding. Time- They serviced my car within 2 days. They were upfront and told me the time frame, they were quick to respond to let me know if anything had changed. I feel like they really understood what I needed and worked with me in a timely manner. Resolved issues- I did find a red scratch on my car. They told me they would look at the camera's to check and if so I'm sure they'd fix it. What more can I ask for. Overall- They really created an environment in which I felt at ease and they have demonstrated through their actions that they are an honest, hardworking company. read more

Dropped my car off a few weeks ago. I made an appointment for first thing in the morning when they opened. Left all day. I called them 20 minutes before closing and they said they would check with the head mechanic. I received a call back that it was an electrical issue and it needs to be looked at more and I would be charged hourly. I took my car elsewhere and it was a 30 minute fix with a cost of $60 for a ignition coil in a 2009 Toyota. I feel like I was low balled and I am glad I walked out. Sorry, I would not recommend this. I hope you guys can get more on top of it. Follow up: Received a call from the NEW MANAGER regarding the issues I had. He was very nice and helpful. read more
