Underwhelming. Hardly any taste to the food. I ordered drunken noodle and it was almost flavorless. My wife got the philly and spider roll and was dissatisfied with both. Neither had a good flavor. The only upside to this place was the dumplings. Definitely not worth the price you pay. You would think you were getting quality but instead you get very mediocre food. My husband and I ordered from here for delivery and here's a breakdown of the food experience. Prices - Seemed super reasonable for the classic rolls... Food - ... and now we know why. We ordered 4 rolls: Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll, Spicy Tuna Crunch Roll, Lobster Roll and Scallops Roll. Both spicy crunch rolls lacked in spice and crunch. The taste of the scallops fell flat. The lobster roll was actually ok in comparison. Portions- The size of each roll is smaller than normal and only brings 6 pieces versus the regular 8. It looked more like the smaller portions you would get in an all you can eat place. Overall - It was lackluster at best. read more

We ordered this on a week night, and we got the crunchy spicy salmon, tuna, and scallop rolls. All of them were extremely filling and they all had a lot of fish in the roll. Amber definitely wasn't stingy on giving us extra condiments either. I'm giving this a 3/5 because to me it was literally the definition of average/a bit above average sushi. The spicy mayo deserves a 5/5 though, I would recommend you get a cup of that on the side. read more

What a fantastic vibe at Amber! I love a sushi environment that's contemporarily adorned but comfortable, with real candles and TVs for catching a game--or in the case of last night, the NBA draft. When the weather's nice, the space opens in many ways to become delightfully airy. The sushi and service are as alluring as the atmosphere, with reasonable prices for an all-around excellent value. My only complaint is that a side of steamed veggies requires a full entree. read more

Never order from here!! Ordered a few items - Indian pancake and veggie dumplings were decent but nothing great. Avocado and honey peanut roll was ok very mushy though. My husband didn't mind the California roll. The two things that were frankly inedible though was the coconut green curry chicken and veggie roll. My husband said he has never tasted worse green curry with chicken (should've known not to order this from a sushi place) - it was inedible and disgusting literally could not be chewed and was like tendons on a chicken and could not be eaten. I am a vegetarian and ordered two rolls - the Veggie Roll was so inedible as as well. Not only did it literally fall apart, it tasted so strongly of seaweed and fish I could not eat it and threw that out as well. This was not inexpensive either - $27 for both items! A nice sushi/Japanese fusion restaurant that is surprisingly bigger than it seems from the outside. It's on w70th just a couple doors down from the corner and the place width wise doesn't seem big but when we were taken to our table we were taken to the back where it opens up into a larger dining room with a glass ceiling. They food was good like any pricier sushi restaurant would be. Quite an extensive menu with more than just Japanese to offer. read more

This restaurant is local for me and I just keep coming back. It's wonderful quality for an affordable price. I bring all my visiting family and celebrated my birthday here. The staff is kind, responsive, and professional. I've never tried anything off the menu that I didn't like. In the 10+ times I've visited, I've never had a problem and would even say I've come here because I know it will be a good way to end a day! Chicken Pad Thai tasted like Shrimp Pad Thai and literally made me ill in 5 bites. They obviously cooked seafood in the same pan as my chicken with out either separating it or cleaning it before. I put the same note in my immediate "how was your Food" review that Yelp Auto generates after you order through their app and heard nothing from the restaurant. I would not ever ask for a refund but I would like recognition from the establishment that they apologize for their well below sub par product. I vacillated between a 3 and a 4. Ultimately, I rounded down. Here's why. First, we all know about my P2P ratio index (Price to Portions). This one failed the test. You're talking 8 bucks for 4 dumplings. They were pretty delicious, but this is price gouging, especially when you can get ones of comparable quality at lots of other places in the vicinity. P2P for me is what makes me give them less charity with my star ratings. $8 for two "duck buns" that are basically hershey kisses on steroids (size wise). SMH. BUT BUT BUT the food itself was great. Besides the appetizers, we had a sashimi plate. 10 pieces also sounded like a P2P scam, but the portions here were actually good. One piece here is the equivalent of 2 pieces at your typical place. Now I'm thinking about changing my P2p evaluation above, but I typed it already, and nah. Desert menu didn't have fried ice cream, but a decent mix of Japanese staples (green tea ice cream) and American stuff. Had chocolate pyramid. Decor is typical Asian Fusion. I feel like they have a factory that spits out the decor in a kit. Dark mood lighting remniscient (sp) of a set in your typical Hong Kong crime drama. Would I come again? The P2P on appetizers -- the best part of Asian fusion -- needs a little work. I'll be touring other establishments before coming here again. read more

Cute, small and quiet Asian restaurant, conveniently located closed by Lincoln Center. I had a quick dinner prior going to a concert and it was a delicious reasonably priced experience. The menu has a mix of Japanese, Thai and Chinese dishes, but we picked just Japanese. I had a miso soup and two rolls, while my boyfriend had a salad with fresh sushi in it. I remember the old Amber with its sexy lounge feel and huge areas of seating. The new Amber feels more humble and serene- the back room with greenhouse roof and grass covered walls is very charming, and I applaud that they made great use of the space. The biggest difference was sushi however- the special rolls got more humble too. The special rolls in the old space were huge and artfully plated; the newly sized special rolls look like any other normal roll, much to my disappointment. If a person is willing to pay $5+ for a special roll compared to a normal roll, it could be bit more special. The basil chicken is tasty though. read more

Overall disappointing The kani salad was minuscule, looking like more than half the amount was left out. Seriously it was gone in about 4-5 bites and wasnt great tasting, just ok. The shrimp pad Thai was terrible. It was extremely bland and very very dry. In my order I asked for extra limes... They gave me one extra lime... I'm done ordering here. I had to throw most of the pad Thai out. The reason I gave 2 stars instead of one is because the delivery was fairly quick for a Thursday night. I was underwhelmed. I ordered sushi and the salmon teriyaki platter. The sushi didn't taste super fresh and my shrimp tempura roll was a bit wet/watery it seemed. I asked for eel sauce (which was 1.00 each) and what they gave me tasted nothing like it. It wasn't thick or sweet as eel sauce is supposed to be. The salmon was dry and overcooked with no flavor. The "teriyaki" sauce was very watery and the rice tasted old. Maybe this was just an off day in the kitchen but I will not be ordering again. Firstly this review is long overdue. I work in the area and would estimate I eat lunch/dinner here at least 2-3 times a week. Being in the wine business i am considered by most a 'foodie' and can vouch for Amber being a consistent spot for solid food, service and and ambiance. Due to the fact that I usually come solo during or after work I've gotten to know all the employees relatively well and their dedication and professionalism is a 10. When I've come with a date or friend it's intimate yet entertaining. Definitely a 'must visit' if your in the area and want a great experience! read more

Like the other yelper I agree, this place is a solid 3. Service excellent! Ambience serene and pleasant! Food-I felt was lacking. The specialty rolls are in the 17-19$ range and not "special" at all. I think what's missing is more flavor and depth. I was eating my soft shell crab roll and literally it was all crab, rice, seaweed and cucumber, there was no sauce no salt it was just so beyond bland and boring. I was dipping it in soy sauce for flavor bc it was dry and just not appealing to eat. The ocean roll was not bad but I didn't even know that was "crab" on the top, it tasted exactly like tuna out of a can with hot sauce. The shrimp was so minimal it was all I tasted was crab or whatever the top was ... The salmon roll again just was boring and lacking in flavor. it was an average spot with above average prices. read more

I work around the corner but can't leave my desk unattended so I decided to order from their lunch special and have it delivered! It got here a little earlier than expected which was so great. The rolls I order were a standard California and Eel and Avacado. The avacado was so good, melted in my mouth. The eel also wasn't crazy tough and the portions of fish in the rolls was generous. It was also great that they read my requests for extra soy sauce and wasabi and it was given. The only thing I didn't care for was the ginger dressing with the salad, and that's just a personal opinion. It couldn't used a bit more of a ginger punch. But! I think this will become a regular quick and fresh sushi stop for my 9 hour day shift at work. read more

Very sweet sushi place by Lincoln Center that I tried this weekend. The service was excellent and even though it was a bit crowded, they got us a table of four right away. The actual sushi was good but not the best I've had, and is also a tiny bit more expensive than most places I've been to in Manhattan ($1-$2 more per role). That said, it was an overall good experience and I would definitely come again if I was in the area and in the mood for sushi. read more

Went with coworkers for their lunch specials . Both my coworkers were raving about the food since they have been there before .The plus is the amount of food you get - soup, salad, entree and veggie dumplings . The dumplings were really good ! I chose pad Thai as my entree - chicken had a weird texture and overall needed more flavor. I'm a huge fan of pad Thai so I was a bit disappointed . I had to ask for hot sauce to make it tastier . Prices were average . My coworkers were happy with their choices - so I might give it another try ! read more

Unbelievable. I ventured out just for dinner while the rest of my party was going to see a show after and it was completely worth the hour subway ride and back. Sushi was of course perfect but the real star was the veggie delight which was flavorful and not too oily as I've come to expect from such dishes.
