I always like to check out different bakeries and buy at least one thing. I bought their nutella banana croissant. Never had a croissant with banana before and surprisingly it actually tasted good. I will have to try their other menu items next time. They have sitting areas so you can stay and chill if you wanted to. Service was regular.

I just happened upon this indie bakery when I was sauntering through West Portal and spontaneously found myself on Ocean Ave. This bakery was standing right in front of me just waiting for me to come in. Initially I thought it was a German-style bakery because I saw a dazzling array of cakes, in particular, the chartreuse princess cakes that looked like the ones at Schubert's on Clement (Photo 3). The vibe was not accidental as owner Keith Truong spent time training in European bakeries before opening his place in 1988. I could tell it was a neighborhood establishment because a constant stream of regulars kept rotating in here while I was hanging. I could've easily gone to town on any of the pastries and muffins on display, but I was able to show some restraint. Well, kinda sorta 'cause I got two items. One was the $3.75 Walnut & Cinnamon Rugelach. I must have a bit of Fran Fine in me because I couldn't help myself and slyly murmured "Mmm, good" when I bit into it. And since it was on the next tray, I got the $2.75 Raspberry & Chocolate Spiral (Photo 8). "Mmm, good". The small $3 cup of Coffee was the right warming lubrication for these dense goodies. This is definitely ambrosia I can return for. FOOD - 4 stars...rugelach like my mommala would buy AMBIANCE - 4 stars...good amount of seating in here SERVICE - 4.5 stars...the young server was particularly attentive TOTAL - 4 stars...definitely worth another stop...is there a princess cake in the future of this princess? I usually pop in for the individual pastries but came in recently in the late afternoon and bought a delicious mocha chocolate mousse (Tri color mousse) cake. It's been a long time since I tried this cake. It was delicious. Hubby liked it so much he ate 2 slices. I had to restrain myself but it had a nice coffee and chocolate flavor with cream top layer. It was pricey though at $65. I plan to return to try the Princess and Fantasia cakes again. So glad to hear the head baker will be taking over the business when the owner retires in late 2028.

My how the mighty have fallen. Sadly the Brazilia was nowhere to be found so we ordered a slice of Capuchino to share -- not what I remembered... falls flat. I think they might have a new baker and it's not hitting the mark

Ambrosia has some of my favorite cakes here, the Fantasia and the Horchata. Both of them are my go to for any celebration or if I'm trying to sweeten up a deal, if you know what I mean. Lately I've been coming here for the cappuccino and a cheese danish to get my morning started. Why do I pick Ambrosia time and time again, well first it the customer service here and they make a great cappuccino, the traditional way, and just the way I like it! To me a cappuccino has to be 25% steamed milk, 25% espresso, and 50% frothy foam. Always hits every time I'm here taking the morning in and chilling at a table planning out my day in my semi-retirement. Come see for yourself why I enjoy Ambrosia so much and buy a cake!

Small, quaint, and bursting with edible masterpieces--that's Ambrosia Bakery. The staff move through the cozy space like seasoned dance partners, gliding past one another with easy familiarity. The pastry case alone is a hypnotic experience; you could lose track of time just admiring each delicate creation. We picked out more than a few to share, and every bite made it clear: the ingredients are fresh, the craftsmanship intentional, and the flavors genuinely elevated. They serve hot coffee and a thoughtful selection of teas to pair perfectly with whatever you choose. And then there's the star of the show--the princess cake. Mascarpone, sweet cream, and raspberry tucked between soft layers of white cake. It's pure bliss. Ambrosia Bakery is an absolute must-visit when you're in San Francisco.

I stopped by this small bakery on a weekend afternoon and it was such a pleasant experience from start to finish. The shop was semi-busy but everything ran smoothly the line moved quickly and the staff handled the rush with ease. The space itself was clean, bright, and welcoming which made waiting in line no problem at all. I ordered a few chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin cupcake, and a couple of slices of cake. Every single item was absolutely delicious the cookies were soft and buttery with just the right amount of chocolate, the pumpkin cupcake was moist and full of flavor and the cake slices were perfectly balanced and fresh. Overall, this bakery really impressed me. Great service, great treats and a comfortable atmosphere. I'll definitely be coming back whenever I'm in the area!

Cozy bakery near home. Glad to be able to support local business. My daughter was craving for a slice of princess cake. So after going to the local public library, we decided to take a trip here and treat ourselves. I must say the staff are all so friendly and professional. The place is kept clean. The cake was delicious. My daughter was satisfied and happy. I took home a slice of carrot cake and a slice of fantasia cake. Everything tasted delicious not too sweet and fresh too. Come give this place a try for yourself!!

The fruit tart is to die for! It's filled with a delicious custard and fresh sweet fruits on the top. You can never go wrong with bringing it to a gathering!

I have not been to Ambrosia in years. Had an appointment near Ambrosia so decided to get a Raspberry Croissant that cost $5.25. I cut the croissant in half so I could see the raspberry filling. OMG look at the almost non filling! It was almost a plain croissant! No thanks; I expected a little more filling than what I got.

The cake was great! I ordered 4 twist pastries and they were bent to get into the bag. There was not a great description of each pastry. The service was good. The inside of the bakery is relatively simple. For 4 twist pastries and a pice of cake was $25

So so so delicious! I've been to Ambrosia a few times and am never disappointed. Most recently, I ordered a slice of Princess Cake. There were layers of raspberry filling, custard and whipped cream. The outermost layer was made of Marzipan and it definitely tasted like sweet, fluffy almonds! I'm glad I only ordered a slice of cake because I could probably eat the whole cake haha. Service was fast and the establishment was clean! Would definitely stop by again and recommend you do too! :)

Gender reveal cake - Strawberry Shortcake
    Debby N.

Look no further! Support your local bakery and visit Ambrosia. There is plenty of metered parking outside on Ocean Ave. Inside, there are tables and chairs for indoor dining and the ambiance is quite cozy. They have tea, coffee, cakes, baked goods like pastries, tarts, muffins, little cookies, etc. I called them to see if they do gender reveal cakes and they said yes. I requested a strawberry shortcake and that they change the inside filling to the color of the baby reveal. I went in person and showed them my blood test results and I paid for the cake then and there as well. On the day of pick up, the cake was ready on time as promised and I loved the added sprinkles! The cake tasted delicious and it was everything we wanted in a cake for our baby's gender reveal. The staff were kind and friendly. I'd order another cake from them for another occasion. Their holiday yule logs look yummy!!

While I was visiting friends in the Inner Richmond, we were tempted by the aroma of butter and decided to brave the line to try one of these legendary pastries. While the line stretched halfway down the block, it moved quickly, and we only waited in line for about 15 minutes. The ordering process was efficient, and we were able to pick up our pastries in a couple of minutes once we were at the front of the line. The menu is short and simple, and I decided to try the almond croissant, one of the classics. I enjoyed my croissant when I got home, and immediately noticed how decadent and heavy the pastry was (I recommend splitting it). The outside was very toasted - almost bitter - and the inside of the pastry tasted slightly underbaked. On a more positive note, I appreciated how the almond filling tasted purely of freshly-ground almonds; simple and naturally sweet without the overpowering almond-extract flavor. While this first experience did not quite live up to my expectations, I would still come back to try the other pastries.

It's definitely a busy area so expect to park in one of the nearby residential areas or be extremely and walk/bike/bus here! Upon stepping into the tiny shop, I was enveloped in the sweet smell of chocolate chip cookies. It was tempting to put that in my bag, but I stuck with my game plan. They do self serve for all the baked goods and drinks except the pizza and focaccia. You tell the cashier what you grabbed. There's self serve complimentary water on the side too. Got a pecan swirl, one of each square focaccia flavors, and a half pizza (hot). The pizza flavor of the day was triple mushroom with sesame ginger garlic vinaigrette and mozzarella. It was 10/10 delicious!! Do note that they don't heat up the focaccia. Personally, after tasting everything, I'd say the pizza is more worth it than the focaccia "pizzas". The pecan roll was quite addicting too. You can also skip the line if you want to order online on their website and schedule a pick up time, but my gift card didn't work so I just waited in line.
