The only place I know that has good, cheap dosa. Has water at your convenience as well. Vibes are always popping here. Super yummy, definitely wanna try more flavors on here! Service is fast, cashier friendly and helpful for recommendations.

I finally went to Amma Kitchen after my family had been raving about it for years. I had some Rava Onion Paneer Dosa, Rava Onion Masala Dosa, Sambhar, Rasam, chutneys, and a Mango Lassi - a nice and full meal! Overall, Amma was solid! It gave me the crispy dosa with spicy sambhar/rasam fixing I was looking for. However there are definitely better South Indian restaurant options in NOVA. The rava dosa was extremely crispy and flavorful but the paneer filling tasted a little plain. It could've used more masala and tikka flavors. There was also barely any paneer or potato filling. The sambhar was okay, nothing special. The rasam quantity was amazing but it was extremely oily and lacked next-level flavors. Again it did the job on a cold rainy day!

We checked this place when we were in DC for the Cherry blossoms. We did a pickup order for our dinner and it didn't take a lot of time for the food to be ready by the time we arrived at the restaurant. The food quality was very good and the packaging was excellent. Saw quite a number of people enjoying their dinner and also an equal number of people waiting to get their order picked up. Wish the interior cleanliness of the place matched what was offered on the outside.

Poor customer service and subpar food. Balaji Cafe - which isn't that good either - is basically their twin, but I would still go with Balaji because of their slightly better customer service. Nonetheless, find an alternative to this place if you're craving Dosas. As a big Dosa lover, I came here having read somewhat positive reviews on Yelp; however to my dismay, I was thoroughly disappointed. I ordered the Rava Masala Dosa and it wasn't hot nor really warm at all; the Dosa itself was like papadum - paper crisp and thin with no real flavor or texture; the masala-potatoes felt like it was left out in the open, too. When I asked if they could heat it up, they seemed surprised. After they gave me new potatoes which was warmer, I was still very disappointed with their Dosa and literally left it aside. Having shared this with the lady at the front, I asked if I can order something else. I asked when their samosa was made but she said it was made 4 hours ago. 4 hours ago!? Talk about freshness. To my amazement, I asked which other menu options were fresh and hot. After she recommended the Cholé Bature, I decided to order that; however she still made me pay for it (when I left my Rava Masala Dosa). Seeing that she was clearly not interested in accommodating me nor listening to my concerns, I ordered, ate and left. The Cholé Bature was decent by the way. This place seems to mainly cater to those who are loyal customer and not for new customers. If you are debating where to get Dosa, this is not the place - not for the Dosa but mainly for the very poor customer service. This place deserves two stars

Updated Review (previously 5 stars) due to poor management response:…read more Management has changed since my last visit, and boy, this place is not what it used to be, and that makes me sad. About four years ago, I happily gave this restaurant 5 stars and recommended it to others. Unfortunately, my most recent experience was the complete opposite. During my meal, I discovered ANTS actively crawling around my food. (See video) It was disturbing to watch them around the sauce next to my meal, and I immediately stopped eating because I no longer felt comfortable consuming the rest of it. What disappointed me even more was how management handled the situation afterward. It was extremely difficult to get in touch with the manager despite multiple attempts. When I finally spoke with him, he refused to provide a refund because more than 30 days had passed since my visit. Given the nature of the complaint and the difficulty I had reaching management, I found that response completely unreasonable. I also raised concerns about being asked questions during my visit that made me feel racially stereotyped. Those concerns were never acknowledged or addressed by management, which only added to my disappointment. Because I believed this was a legitimate food safety issue, I filed a complaint with the Fairfax County Health Department. After investigating, the inspector informed me that they visited the restaurant, discussed my concerns with the manager, and that the manager confirmed my reported ant sightings. The Health Department also required additional pest control measures. Beyond the service issues, I also noticed a significant decline in the food. The wonton soup was bland and lacked the rich flavor I remembered, and the General Tso's Surprise tasted off and was missing the depth and spice that used to make it one of my favorite dishes. This restaurant used to be one of my favorite vegetarian spots, which is why writing this review is so disappointing. Based on my recent experience, the difficulty in getting in touch with management, and their total lack of customer service or care for loyal customers, I can't recommend dining here. They do not care about their customers based on how I was treated.

One of the highlights of the night was meeting the owner, Jason. We bonded over our shared Cantonese backgrounds and even got to meet his aunt, who was visiting from California and happened to be sitting next to us. It made the whole experience feel incredibly welcoming and personal. We ordered the Dynamite Roll, which was a solid choice with 8 generous pieces, and the Szechuan spicy wontons, which were juicy with just the right amount of heat. If you visit, definitely grab a seat at the bar. The bartenders are friendly, engaging, and really add to the experience. We were treated to a complimentary shot of Jäger with Jason and even got to sample their Lychee Pearl cocktail because the bartender had made an extra. The cocktails really stood out. Instead of masking everything with sugary juices, they use extracts and creative techniques to build balanced drinks that complement the flavors beautifully. Jason also mentioned that their cocktail specials change every month, so we already told him we'll be back regularly to see what new creations he comes up with.

I ordered an entrée with three sides: grilled vegetables, roasted heirloom carrots, and mac and cheese. Everything was made to order, so my meal arrived fresh and flavorful. The olive oil-roasted vegetables were simple but well seasoned and satisfying. The roasted heirloom carrots were unique as they were seasoned with za'atar and served with whipped feta, which added a delicious flavor. The mac and cheese, however, was just average. I'm not a big fan of gluten-free pasta, and I found it a bit too chewy. It also didn't absorb the cheese sauce very well, so it wasn't as creamy or flavorful as I had hoped. I also tried the draft kombucha, which was fine but nothing particularly memorable. The service was quick, even during a busy weekend lunch, and a staff member was friendly. The restaurant itself has a cute, welcoming interior with plenty of seating, so finding a table wasn't an issue. Overall, I had a really enjoyable meal and thought it was well worth the price. And let's be honest, I was there to judge their famous Tahdig. The inside is beautiful, clad in dark green colors and velvet chairs, it's definitely going for a romantic dinner energy. The floor buzzes with staff and families giving the whole dining room a lively energy. The group had a few picky eaters that got their own dishes, but for the cool kids we shared the Gilani Kebab platter which came with prawns, chicken, lamb; ya, a little bit of everything and was perfect for sharing. The grilled/charred flavor showed through on top of rice and fresh herbs. We also got the whole roasted branzino, cause, who's not up for the challenge. Served in a pistachio citrus sauce over rice, it was very lightly flavored and succulent. The Tahdig did not disappoint, perfectly crisped rice, beautiful color and good flavor! A few dings because the cocktails (and all the drinks) come out very slowly (bar is probably under-staffed) and everything need juuuuuust a little more omff flavor wise. I'm a huge fan of Persian cuisine and the DMV is no slouch here so color me spoiled. The bill is also on par with being neighbors with a Tiffany's; so if you can get your boss to treat you, then go in!!
