A 3 star review seems a little harsh, but I am giving it based on the time we waited for our food along with the quality of the fish. We came here for dinner during the week and the restaurant was full, but we were sat right away at the bar seating. There are not many tables maybe 5-6. The restaurant seems to be run by a husband and wife team (wife did the waitressing and husband was the chef). My husband and I both ordered the combo that came with sashimi, nigiri, and a California roll. We waited well over 30 minutes to receive our food. Another sushi chef could be really beneficial here. The restaurant was clean and the fish was all well wrapped in plastic and everything seemed sanitary. However, the quality of fish, the ahi specifically, was just off. The salmon and yellowtail seemed fine but the ahi was just not defrosted/thawed correctly or something, and even then was just not the best quality. When I squeezed it there was liquid that came out of it and I've never seen that happen before (and I've eaten a LOT of sashimi). With all that being said, I'm not trying to hate on the place. I'd probably come back to try some of their rolls, which all looked good as they went out to other tables.

Fire Cracker, Sushi on the beach, Spicy Salmon Roll, Temptation

Genuinely the BEST Sushi I have ever had. If you want to try something you have never had before, come in and get the Fire Cracker (Hot Cheetos) roll. I should've order 20 of them. The owners were so nice to us and were so polite. The sashimi was amazing too. And lastly the Cafe was very cozy, clean, and comfortable. PLEASE TRY THIS PLACE ITS WONDERFUL.

Hot cheetos sushi. Nuff said. Amura is a nice quick sushi restaurant. Portions are huge and fish tastes fresh. What's not to hate with those adjectives.

My favorite sushi spot in the area! Such big portions and the fish is amazing quality for a great price. So many other restaurants charge the same for such poor quality fish. This place for me is unmatched.

Hot Cheeto roll , spicy tuna roll & I forgot the 3rd one

This place is amazing!! We devoured all 3 rolls (hot Cheeto was our favorite) along with fresh ginger salad and miso soup. The service might seem a little slow to some but it is worth the wait for such delicious food. Best sushi I've ever had and the husband and wife duo who own/run the place are very friendly people! 10/10 recommend

This place is incredibly delicious. I like the options the serve in terms of sushi, and we also got some sake! They are also quick with the service. I enjoy the small restaurant vibe they have going on, it makes me feel like this is an authentic place that loves what they do.

Amura Sushi Cafe opened in June of 2020 in the shopping complex that intersects Pleasure House Road with Shore Drive. It is owned by a Korean couple who used to own a 24-hour sushi chain in Austin, Texas. They had planned to open earlier, but COVID-19 delayed their plans. This particular spot is found in the small section of the complex that runs parallel to Pleasure House Road and is right around the corner from Kim's Bahn Mi & More. This is a small and compact sushi spot housing 5 rectangular dining tables with six seats each. I counted 5 seats at their sushi bar. Their menu is small as well and has been downsized since they first opened. Their original menu listed sections for Donburi, Teriyaki, Fried Rice, and Katsu, which no longer appear on their current menu. Their early Yelp photos also feature a Ramen dish and Tuna Tataki, which no longer appear as well. Their one page one sided menu now sticks mostly to sushi. After three lunch time visits, I have tried the following: MISO SOUP: Listed as one of their three Appetizers, which also includes Edamame and a 12-piece Sashimi sampler, I ordered the large size. This might be the best Miso Soup I have ever tasted. Their dashi stock delivered a rich depth of flavor, enhanced by an abundance of tofu, scallion, and dried kelp.. My Rating: 5 Stars. TUNA POKE BOWL: This was listed as one of their four Poke Bowl offerings and was described by my server as tuna with a variety of vegetables over a layer of sushi rice. My server asked me if I wanted the spicy version or the regular version. I told her that I wanted the spicy version, but with no mayonnaise, which is condiment that has never agreed with me. She told me that I would have to get the regular, as their spicy version comes with mayonnaise. So, I went ahead and ordered their regular version, a bit disappointed that I would have to do without the spice. On a side note, the late celebrity chef and food author, Anthony Bourdain, strongly believed that mayonnaise does not belong anywhere near raw fish and advised against ordering any sushi selection that includes it. The sushi bowl was huge and included ample chunks of high quality grade tuna that delivered a fresh and pleasant taste. The other ingredients were a bit of a disappointment. There was no seaweed salad in the mix, which is one of my favorite ingredients in a poke bowl. Instead, there was an overabundance of plain lettuce that overwhelmed the mixture. I had never encountered plain lettuce in a traditional poke bowl before, and I was tasting it all the way home. My Rating: 3.5 Stars. COMBO POKE BOWL: Even though their Tuna Poke Bowl was a disappointment, I decided to give this one a shot during my second visit. It came with a mix of Tuna, Shrimp, and Salmon. I had better luck this time. With a stunning presentation, the Shrimp and Salmon delivered a greater balance of flavors in combination with the other ingredients. The lettuce was still there, but it was not overwhelming. My Rating: 4.5 Stars. SUSHI COMBO B: 6 Pieces of Chef's Choice Nigiri and California Roll. I am not a fan of the California Roll and substituted it with the Tuna Roll listed under their Traditional Maki Rolls. I like my sushi rolls prepared in the more traditional style with the seaweed on the outside instead of on the inside. Sushi rolls prepared with the seaweed on the inside and the rice on the outside are known as Uramaki or "inside out" rolls and are an American invention. The California Roll is believed to be the original Uramaki roll, originating in Los Angeles during the 1960s. The Nigiri pieces consisted of Salmon, Red Snapper, and Yellowfin Tuna. They all delivered a high quality taste and silky texture. The Yellowfin Tuna was especially buttery and was my favorite of the three. For my tastes, there was a bit too much rice in the Nigiri pieces. I like to eat a piece of Nigiri in one bite and had a hard time doing so with these. The Tuna Roll was fine taste wise, but once again, the pieces were packed with more rice than I wanted. American style sushi tends to be prepared in larger pieces and more packed with rice than Japanese style sushi. At least, I left feeling full. My Rating: 4.5 Stars. My service was very friendly with each visit. I would come back to try their Miso Soup again, and I would like to try their Sushi Sashimi Combo, once again swapping out their California Roll for their Tuna Roll. I would also try their Tuna Tataki if they ever bring it back. Most of their Specialty Rolls don't entice me, as they tend to be served Uramaki style with the seaweed on the inside. A number of them also come with mayonnaise and cream cheese, which is yet another non-traditional ingredient I don't like in a sushi roll. My food numbers averaged out to a strong 4-star composite rating, but it was not quite enough to round upward. When it comes to sushi, my personal preferences lean toward a more traditional Japanese style.

Great sushi spot! I moved here recently from Hawaii, where amazing sushi is on every corner and I have been missing it. Amura had great reviews so I had to stop by to satisfy my craving! The owners are a lovely couple that seem to run the place pretty much independently. The gentleman was preparing sushi and his wife was taking care of all the tables. I ordered two of their specialty rolls; the Sushi on the Beach roll and the Cherry Blossom roll. It was a great combination, both rolls very different but balanced each other. I would order the Sushi on the Beach again. The Cherry Blossom was good, but I would choose something different next time! The rolls were pretty big and very filling.

Best sushi you will eat in the area. Period. The poke bowl is ridiculous, too. The biggest, freshest, tastiest poke bowl you will find on the East Coast. Get the combo poke bowl. Just huge chunks of fresh salmon, tuba, and shrimp with some greens underneath, and rice underneath that. They will give you the sauce on the side, and that sauce was yummy goodness. The restaurant has a super relaxed vibe. TV screens are filled with exotic location videos. They also play jazz cafe music, which is a nice touch. The menu is simple, and you have a checklist with a pen and you just write the quantity you want. The yellowtail tasted like butter. Just melts in your mouth. The spicy scallops is perfectly sweet and spicy. I ate a lot of different things, and they all hit the mark. The Portions are the biggest you will find for what you pay, and everything tastes top quality. I will eat here a lot. Well done.

Food is good. Prices have doubled in past 3 years. Lady that works there is rude. Shoving a tablet at you while watching you enter a tip amount for takeout order pick up that defaults to 18% and higher is odd. I am usually happy to tip and always go 20% or more in a sit down place or bar. Having a rude person that acts like she is doing you a favor by letting you be a customer lurk over you while holding your card is strange and unwelcoming. Hope she reads this because I like the place. And yes, I have been there at least 10 times. read more

One of my favorite sushi spots. The sushi has always been A1 for me. They rolls are fresh and delicious. However, the staff won me over, they are the best! Definitely a solid sushi place! We ordered the salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and the VA beach roll, and they certainly hit the spot. The spicy tuna was spicier than expected, and just in case you're not expecting it - it's ground up tuna with spicy mayo mixed in, not fresh tuna with spicy mayo (different places do it different ways, in my experience). The salmon roll was just as expected, and the VA beach was a hit! I would definitely get the VA beach roll again, and would maybe try a poke bowl next time as well. The only thing keeping me from 5 stars is that they charge the same or more than other restaurants do that also provide miso soup and salad sides, and these sides aren't even available to purchase separately. I'm actually very confused at reviews commenting on their miso soup, because it is nowhere on their menu and definitely did not come with our meal. Overall, great sushi and would definitely recommend! read more

Very very clean. Mama san is making homemade everything behind the counter, there's a Korean game going on the tv. If you made the place about 30% smaller, it would fit right in the middle of Iwakuni Japan. I feel welcomed here. read more

This is my 3rd time getting food to go here and I've been impressed every time. The food is so fresh, the staff are super friendly, and you get a lot for what you pay, especially the poke bowl. Tonight we got the tuna poke bowl, side house salad, and volcano roll. They make their own ginger dressing so I get extra because it's sooo good! Their volcano roll isn't your typically deep fried roll with just a spice. It's fresh, has a great kick, and tasty! read more

Now this is what sushi rolls aspire to be! So fresh and delicious. Tried 4 rolls and a salad. My husband and I could not even come close to finishing the meal. Skip this if you have any special dietary needs. Our daughter is mildly allergic to shellfish and after driving for 6 hours ( on 10 hour trip - to say I'm hungry would be an understatement) she picked this restaurant for the 5 star reviews. Looks shady from the outside, but I never see 5 star reviews so we went for it. After ordering the "sushi on the beach" roll substituting shrimp for tuna and paying I was approached and told you "can't do that" that's making your own roll. Seriously? It's an allergy- we eat sushi 2 times a week - we've lived all over the country. This has literally never been the case in any other place. She told me "it will taste different, that's not okay". Moving on, won't be back. Do not recommend based on customer service alone since they cancelled our order. read more

We went at 1215 on a Monday. They only had enough seating for 3 tables. But we got a seat no problem. While we ate our superb sushi rolls they did have to turn away a customer because the seating was limited. Stupid COVID. Anyways, the food was stupendous from the optimal customer service to the amazing selection of specialty rolls! I wish I could give this place 7 stars. They do take out orders too so if the seating is limited when you decide to go just order to go!! read more

Such tasty sushi! We got 4 rolls - the Volcano 2, Virginia Beach, rainbow, and on the beach ... they were absolutely delicious. I don't like taking squishing to go usually because they tend to not be as good but it's not like that with Amuras. I picked up the sushi to go and they were wonderfully packaged so you got the full experience at home. I can't wait to eat there again! Definitely a local gem and they definitely revolutionize what Sushi means in VA Beach! Shout out to Mark who had excellent communication and customer service skills! I live right across the street and decided to grab sushi today. We order 4 rolls and they were all amazing! You can definitely tell the ingredients are fresh. Their Miso soup is also made from scratch and very flavorful. My favorite was the Temptation Roll and the Sushi on the Beach Roll. Both has fried shrimp tempura inside but taste totally different. The temptation roll has a delish crab mixture on top and the Sushi on the beach has a hint of spicy ness from the jalapeños. I'm also a fan of toasted eel and recommend their Unagi Roll. Eel is cooked and tastes like sweet soy fish. All of their rolls were a good size and we were full with a few left over. I'd highly recommend this cute sushi cafe. My dad use to be a sushi chef so I've had every sushi you can think of but it's hard finding good sushi in our area. My fiancé commented on how good our lunch was so that's a good sign. We'll definitely come back to satisfy our sushi craving! read more

We just moved to the area and tried Amura Sushi Cafe for the first time for lunch. First of all, the owners were very kind. We brought our 16 month old and they made a special crab roll for her, which she loved. The sushi was beautiful and tasted incredible. We have moved around a lot (military), and this has been the best tasting sushi we've tried. Overall, such an incredible experience and we will be back! read more

This place was great! The service was fast for all the rolls that we ordered and the food was so good! The fire cracker roll with hot Cheetos was my favorite. This spot is still pretty new but we have already eaten here twice! The fish is so fresh and the rolls are pretty awesome. The selection of special rolls isn't too extensive, however, the quality of the sushi and rolls outweighs that. They were super friendly and fast. One of my favs was the spicy salmon roll; it was cubed up salmon instead of mushy salmon for the spicy roll which is so much better if you ask me. Even got a complimentary appetizer both times we've been here. We had to come back and get pictures this time to post. We will be returning. read more

First time customer and I will be definitely returning. Very descriptive menu with some unique items I've never seen before. I was able to make my selections very quickly. Quality of the food was very fresh and delicious. Presentation was excellent and I was provided with Soy Sauce, Chop Sticks, Ginger, and Wasabi alongside the platter. The straight sushi pieces I got were basically inedible. This place excels at creating rolls with lots of fried stuff and sauces however, and those were very good. Is it authentic or healthy? No. Does every roll contain cream cheese, spicy crab or fried shrimp? Yes. read more

Never knew this place was where it's at. Ordered a Virginia Beach roll and sushi on the beach. The lady that greeted me assuming it's the owners wife was very friendly and welcoming. The rolls were ginormous compared to the other sushi places, and NO it wasn't the rice that was making them big too. Highly recommended if you're a sushi lover. Decently priced with big portions. The food was ok! What really killed it was the service. The older Asian lady is rude and tries to hurry you out the door. I would come back if she wasn't there but unfortunately she might be the owner. She took my husbands plate out of his hand before he finished he answered whether he was finished or not. She also was surprised we only ordered one roll each adult. The kids ordered their rolls but she was like only 4 rolls for two adults and two kids???? She was just rude period. read more

Oh my goodness! I see why this place has such high ratings. I ordered a small house salad, fire cracker roll and the volcano II to go. Everything was delicious! My husband and I read some reviews on sushi places around Virginia Beach and found Amura. We were really impressed. The one glaring criticism is that the pieces are too thick - you cannot fit a piece in your mouth, and they easily fall apart if you try to bite them in half. That is literally the only complaint of this critique. The service was wonderful -- the wife of the sushi chef was gracious and friendly without being intrusive at all. The sushi was as fresh as we've ever had and the rice was perfectly done. It is a very plain menu because the entire emphasis is on the sushi. We avoided the dishes with cream cheese as we do not prefer that, but Sushi on the Beach was a winner as was their Spider Roll, Rainbow Roll, and Wasabi Roll. Everything else we had was wonderful, including a small salad, which was actually decently sized and thoughtfully put together, as opposed to much of the salad that comes in other sushi places that are essentially lettuce and carrot dressing. We actually drove about 30 minutes specifically to try them, but unfortunately they weren't available. Even though I was disappointed, I still had a really nice experience. The café wasn't busy when we visited there was only one couple dining in, it was clean, and the customer service was great. The employee who helped us was friendly, welcoming, and very kind. Since they were out of the malasadas, I decided to order the banana latte instead. I'd give it about a 7/10. For context, I'm always searching for a great banana latte because I love flavored coffee. One thing that frustrates me is when coffee shops advertise flavors like cookie butter, lemon pound cake, or red velvet, but the drink just ends up tasting like sweet coffee with no real trace of the advertised flavor. I was pleasantly surprised because this latte actually tasted like banana. It wasn't the best banana latte I've ever had that title still belongs to one I had in Las Vegas but it was definitely one of the better ones I've tried. The only reason it wasn't rated higher is because I noticed a sugary base flavor that overpowered the coffee a little for me. I personally prefer flavored lattes where I mainly taste the coffee cut with milk and the featured flavor heavily, not just sweetness. That's purely my preference. The fact that I finished the entire drink says a lot. I've had plenty of flavored coffees that I couldn't even finish because I disliked them so much. This wasn't one of those. I enjoyed it, and I definitely didn't regret ordering it. Now...the real star of the visit was the lumpia. It was AMAZING. Crispy, flavorful, and easily some of the best lumpia I've had. I actually tried another lumpia spot recently, and while it was decent, Ohana & Co.'s lumpia completely won me over. It's honestly the reason I'll be back. I have an eye appointment in the area next week, and I'm already planning another stop. I'll definitely be ordering the lumpia again, and this time I'm hoping they have the banana malasadas because that's what I originally came for. I also want to try one of their platters. Overall, I'd absolutely recommend giving Ohana & Co. a try. The customer service was wonderful, the café was clean, the banana latte was one of the better ones I've had, and the lumpia alone is worth the drive.

Yesterday, My wife and I drove down Baltimore because we were in a wedding and decided to catch our flight back to Las Vegas from Norfolk. Made a stop at the Virginia Beach for some one on one time. The beach is so beautiful by the way! Clean beach for the win! Let me tell yall!! The food was absolutely amazing! I had the Fish of the Day, which was Blackened Salmon, Garlic Broccoli, and Fries. My wife had the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and Rum cake. Let me tell yall, that Rum Cake was absolutely delicious!! The service was phenomenal!! Huge huge huge shoutout and thank you to Mario for making my wife and I feel so welcomed and taken cared of!! The Food and Mario's kind service is literally the reason this establishment is getting a 5 out of 5. If you go here, make sure to ask for Mario, he's great! I otherwise would have specifically requested the order be made without the them. I am not a big fan of mushrooms and especially the fragrant kind like the shiitake variety. I feel like I had mouthfuls of mushrooms in each bite and that's all I tasted. Perhaps I will order something else they are more known for the next time I believe they specialize in Szechuan cuisine.
