Hot chocolate was most definitely the creamiest hot cocoa i've ever had. The marshmallows were the thickest and most dense marshmallow ever. You will love this if you love thick chocolatey goodness. I think maybe I wasn't in the mood then or something.. but it was just a little too thick for me. The red velvet cupcake was ok. I think I like cream cheese frosting and since this one had buttermilk frosting, I wasn't a huge fan. BUT the cupcake itself was pretty good =). Delicious desserts, really good coffee, and great employees! We stopped in for a late-night treat and some coffee recently when in the area. Had a cheese-cake brownie, pain au chocolate, and Americanos. The desserts tasted fresh, even at night. No stale bread in this place! And the coffee was really good. My wife loved it so much that we talked to the employees about the brand (Fonte) so we could try it at home. I made a bee-line for 9th avenue as a recluse from the touristy craziness of Times Sq. Walking down restaurant row I saw restaurants on restaurants, bars on bar. Until Amy's Bread came into view. Amy's Bread was a sign of hope - hope that cute, charming coffee shops do exist near the atrocity that is known as Times Square. My two star rating is solely based on the quality of their cakes. I tried a slice of their red velvet and black and white cakes. Moistness of Cake: Both cakes were dry and airy. The black and white cake had some bitter flavor to it that made it taste like charcoal. Filling: The red velvet's filling almost had the same taste and consistency of the same whipped cream that you could buy from your local Morton Williams or grocery store while the black and white's filling was so sweet that it gave it a very bitter taste. Hopefully these two cakes were just two really bad batches. If not, I think Amy's should stick to their breadmaking and lay off the cakes! read more

I was in Times Square and used yelp to find a cute spot to have a small breakfast. I entered through the express side and the man at the counter was very warm and friendly. I think everyone working there was smiling! He recommended a few popular items like the muffins, but I the Rhubarb and Almond confection caught my eye though it was a bit pricey almost $5, I really enjoyed it and felt I really selected something that was unique to this place. Coupled with an Americano this was a really enjoyable breakfast for me and satisfied my craving for something tasty with a touch of sweetness. Came here on Halloween night and found that it was after 10 - buy one get one free on ALL breakfast items and sandwiches! Tried the cheese biscuits and red velvet cake. The red velvet cake falls apart a lot but is totally worth it. The frosting is VERY cream cheese-y, so if you're not into that, don't get it. The black and white cookies are incredible. I'll just start with that.... Being an out of towner, we wanted to go somewhere that wasn't packed with tourists for breakfast. I found Amy's on Yelp and it's only a few blocks from our hotel so we decided to check it out. The inside is incredibly narrow and the door pushes into the bakery, so be careful you don't slam it into someone accidentally. When we left there was a line outside, with people waiting until there's enough space on the other side of the door too finally open it and go in. You stand in line inside next to the case fief with all their goodies, and actual loads and rolls on the back wall. They have cupcakes, cake, lunch items (wraps and salads), then things like hot cross buns, sticky buns (yum), pan au chocolate, macaroons, etc. we ultimately got 4 items each because we wanted to try everything. All the items were good, pretty standard, but the black and white cookie was phenomenal!!!! There are small two person tables in the back behind the counter where you pay so don't think it's only to-go (which it may first seem like when you step inside). read more

Bad food, extremely bad service. We took 4 items, the croissant and pain au chocolat were super dry, the chocolate hasn't melted so was very hard and didn't taste good. The other two items were bland and quite ordinary. Just cheap sugar topping and bad bread below. It is super expensive (3.5 for a below average croissant). The staff is not nice, they don't look at you when giving the items / the change, you feel unwelcome which is exactly what you don't want when going to a bakery. Worst : they double counted an item so we paid more than we should have. Go to any supermarket in Europe and you'll find all those items for less than 1$ and they will be way better. I popped in this afternoon to get a black and white cookie and it was absolutely delicious! The cookie was soft and the icing on top was nice and stiff like it should be. I walk by Amy's every day on my way to work and always tell myself that I'll grab a croissant. This morning someone definitely had a stroke of genius and decided to leave the doors open because I literally stopped in my tracks. It smelled SO GOOD! I ended up ordering the vegetarian frittata breakfast sandwich - it did not disappoint. Sometimes reheated eggs can get tough and rubbery but this tasted like it was just pulled out of the oven (probably because it was most likely baked this morning). The staff was rude and unpleasant. After I paid the woman who waited on me said the word "fuck" or "mother fucker" a good 7 or 8 times. All in reference to customers. If you seek Amy tonight... Amy's Bread charmed the pants off of my mom. You know because I'm trying to get into my mom's pants? Mama Applebottom and I came here for late night indiscretions (carbs, not sex thank you!) and we were thoroughly delighted. Our lineage has a particular penchant for anything fattening and carb-heavy so naturally Amy's Bread fit the bill. Savory, sweet, spicy - put it all on the table for us!!! This is worn territory, but Amy's famous semolina, raisin and fennel bread is the jumpoff. It has such a unique, fresh and delicious taste and is a great pairing for a sandwich or just for breakfast. The currant pumpernickel rolls are also great and a nice twist on a classic bakery favorite. Overall the selection of savory and sweet breads is robust and interesting. But what's really great are the sweeeeets girl. It was really difficult brushing all of the crumbled orange butter cookie crumbs out of my chest hair after rubbing the damn thing all over my body. ITS JUST THAT GOOD. I wanna make love to this cookie in the worst way. This is probably highly related to the fact that I substitute food for sex and feelings. Regardless, the cookies, especially the orange butter cookie, are soft, rich and delicious. My mom also raved about the cherry scone claiming that it was one of the best she has ever had. Coming from a former fat person that is a HUGE compliment. I am terrible. The blondie I had from here was good - not great but good. Everything else was great enough to edge that out. The Bleecker Street location is by far my favorite Amy's. There's enough room to sit and enjoy those sweet treats, and tables in the window for people watching on Bleecker. Best of both worlds really. The service is great, people are always friendly. The bread is fresh and tasty. I'm not really a big dessert fan, but I would have to say of all the cupcakes / pieces of cake I've tried in New York Amy's is hands down my favorite. Each one of my friends always requests their favorite slice form Amy's on their birthday. We also manage to find good reasons to grab a piece of cake throughout the year and celebrate other ambiguous occasions. Some would tell you the classic Black and White is the best or the Decadent Devil's Food Cake. The Carrot Cake and Coconut creme are also good options... but come May when it's my turn to chose there's no question that I'm picking German Chocolate above others! I have a confession. It's pretty embarrassing...I really, really love cake. In fact, I'm probably obsessed with it. Not just any cake though, I like PLAIN vanilla cake with a ton of icing. Yes, I have a plebian palate. So what? I've seriously been craving it for weeks and found it more difficult that one would think to procure a slice. Well, the yearning grew so deeply that I just had to go to Amy's and try their famous pink cake. When I arrived, I spotted one glistening piece left. I held my breath as others in front of me ordered. As my turn arrived, I blurted "a PIECE OF PINK CAKE"!!! It was meant to be. Man, it was worth the wait. It's so great when food actually meets/exceeds expectations. The cake was AWESOME. It was moist and flavorful. The icing was just as I like: sugary, buttery, plentiful. This was the perfect piece of cake. Thank you, Amy's Bread, for indulging my cake desires. All of the bread and pastries looked great. I want to try a bunch of different items but I knew that I would regret it later so I only tried the cake and a cashew bar. The cashew bar was good: caramely, nutty, and tasty.
