Easy location to get to and enough parking if you arrive at the right time. I will say that it isn't the cleanest, but the staff have always been kind each time that I've been to this location. Summer months the ice cream always melt so fast, indoors or outdoors. They have a little play area outside for kids which is fun and my daughter enjoys. It's like the chain has been taken over by private equity. Welcome to the new Austin, folks! This location is located at the corner of the Westgate center, across from the new El Alma, where we had a pretty unimpressive dinner. You walk into this Amy's and it just seems so....sad. No greeting, no heart, no nothing. It feels generic. We enjoyed our cherry pie ice cream with sprinkles on top (god forbid you get a tiny with sprinkles mashed in....they just ABSOLUTELY NO WAY, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE can do a mix-in on a tiny now...biggest money grab ever! to size up). It was fine. Our daughter got her signature Belgian chocolate with gummi bears. It was also fine. There was a time ten years ago when we were going through a tough time in our lives and went to Amy's almost every week to lift our spirits. I think one of the hardest things for me as someone who has been going to Amy's for over a decade, is watching the gradual loss of authenticity. The ice cream is still good, but one of my earliest memories was having someone dressed as the Mad Hatter throw my ice cream in the air and then catch it in my cup. As the hand drawn signs are gradually phased out for tv screens and so many of the quirky things that made Amy's special are slowly replaced with a more corporate feel, it just makes me sad. The ice cream is still good, but the milk shake was disappointing. I'll stick with my OG flavor of Mexican Vanilla with gummy bears in the future. Also, the price on my receipt didn't match the price on their menu. Fun fact: if you bring your movie ticket to this location you'll get a free topping. Weird vibe. Went into the shop, weird lady with septum piercing and colored highlights had her bottom half sitting on the counter which I'm pretty sure goes against health code. Disgusting. Super friendly, laid back, and really patient, especially when my 8 year old has FOMO and wants everything! His cookie and cream ice cream looked incredible, and my hubby said it was the best he's had for cookies and cream anywhere. My favorite combo right now is honey brandy with their pecan caramel situation, and let me tell you. On a hot day it is the PERFECT treat. Perfect. So on the cake for an additional request I said add " Happy Birthday ..." Three days went by and went to pick it up. Was told they aren't trained to write on cakes so you can only preorder cakes they have in stock premade. No birthday anything. A phone call in advance would have been nice or more clarification on the website. I already had paid on the website and tipped for them to do that for me. I assume since they aren't trained to write on a cake that they probably don't make them either, so wish I would have known in advance, but It was just what it was when I picked it up and I just left with the cake. There are a few tables inside and then a couple outside. It's pretty small with a tall ceiling. It's nicely decorated, nothing too over the top. The employees were nice and patient with us as we contemplated on what to get. I eventually landed on the peppermint ice cream. This area is a big shopping center with a lot of different stores. Its one of those Austin staples that you almost want to not like because everyone likes it so much and feels the need to tell you about it all the time. You'd need to be a much better snob than me to hate on Amy's because the Ice Cream is just sooo goood! Last time I was there I had the Pumpkin flavor with peanut butter cup mix ins. It was pretty amazing. There's something about the way peanut butter and chocolate pair with pumpkin that makes my taste buds dance like fairies in a garden. We've ordered from here a few times and every single time the order is wrong. We even call ahead to make sure they understand the order, yet we still end up short. It's sad because the ice cream is really good. Also, at least try and fix the order and go above and beyond for orders that are messed up. Oh my gosh the ice cream here is frickin' RICH. And that is a great thing. It's so creamy and delicious with flavors that actually taste like what they are made from. The Guinness tastes like Irish cream since it's balanced out by the cream, the lone star chocolate tastes like a delicious chocolate beer ice cream, the sweet cream is every whip cream lovers dream. All in all each flavor was tasty, though some can get overly sweet at times, but we think that's a pallete thing. Prices are pretty reasonable at $3.25 for a "tiny" but the amount is A LOT since they scoop it beyond the brim of the cup, and trust us...it's so rich you'll have enough. If not you can always get more. We aren't originally from Austin so we aren't familiar with this chain, but here they don't have any add ins the ice cream so there's no chocolate chips or cookie dough etc already in cause you can add that on and they will manually mix it in!
