I ordered another pork entre that sounded great by reading the menu and it was edible not a huge fan of hominy . My wife got the ceviche however and she thought it was life changing. The Colombiana was amazing, the best chorizo I have had outside of Medellin Colombia. I recommend this place to anybody. The lomo saltado is really good too. They have natural fruit juice drinks and beers from Peru. its a little odd bc it is located inside an elementary school as far as location goes but its really cool inside with hand painted murals. First time there I picked up ceviche to go and was extremely disappointed. However, I gave it a second chance today and it was delicious. Especially the ceviche mixto with the black clams (concha negra). Ask for rocoto on the side and enjoy a fresh juice of lulo or mora. Will be back. read more

Been meaning to try this place for the longest and I finally got to it! At first it seems like you are going to a college campus in a latin america which for me was pretty cool as it brought back memories. We got here before the lunch time rush so we were able to get a table quick and the waitress was very prompt and courteous with us even though we could not decide on what to eat due to the variety of meals they offer. It was such a hard choice but I finally decided on the tequeños from Venezuela and a Bolivian Silpancho since I have never had any type of Bolivian food. The tequeños were pretty good with the guasacaca and I didn't want to share them but of course I had to be nice to my coworkers. My main course I definitely did not share though and it was really filling. I always find restaurants to not do a good job with rice but the rice on the Silpancho was excellent and the breaded meat was nice and tender. I'm a big fan of runny yolks but the eggs were a bit firm which is not their fault since I didn't ask but I would recommend to let them know how you want your fried egg on top. Overall I enjoyed this place very much and would visit again to try the rest of the food. read more

I had a wonderful experience at the Andes Café. The fish tamale was one of the best tamales I have had. The massa was nice and fluffy and soft and the filling and sauce was delicious. The fish ceviche was full of big bold flavors with nice big chunks of tangy fish. Every spoonful was like a treasure hunt, where I would find soft and crunchy pieces of corn, onions,and sweet potato. The chef really puts a lot of thought behind his flavor combinations and the textures in the dishes. The desert Flan was a perfect example. The crunch from the hazelnuts perfectly complimented the soft and creamy Flan. I will definitely be back again to try some of the other delicious looking items on the menu. read more

Fantastic first experience here. We decided to sample some of the small plates including the la Colombbiana, tequenos, salchipapas, and pique macho. The flavors were amazing and complimented each associated item appropriately. We then decided to try the locro de papas y Queso soup; very good but incredibly rich. I would recommend sharing the soup as it's quite a bit to undertake alone. We topped off the meal with the afajores which were just sweet enough to top off the meal. The atmosphere was great as we arrived at 7:00pm on a Friday night and were able to sit right down. The service was excellent and we walked away with an astounding $33 meal. We will be frequenting again, next time with a drink of our choosing (BYOB at this time.) Plenty of parking and easy access! read more

Great, traditional food. I had the shrimp chaufa, and it was delish! Cute little place - make a res if you go for dinner on a weekend b/c there is very limited seating b/c the place is so small. One thing to add - even though the menu has "Juice Bar" with juices on it, they actually don't make juice. I asked the waitress if it was really juice, and then maybe there was a language barrier(?), but she said Yes, and then she brought me a sugary smoothie. Kudos to an adventurous restauranteur in a slowly revitalizing area of Houston. I give credit to any business taking a chance in an area not already popular. My husband and I recently tried Andes Cafe for dinner and found it to be excellent. My husband is from Bolivia and we both have experienced authentic Andean food in our travels. Andes Cafe definitely meets the challenge. I tried the chicken soup, an empanadas small plate and a fried pork small plate. Everything was flavorful and authentic tasting. They also carry several South American beverages, like malt soda and chicha morada. Right now the restaurant is BYOB, but they have applied for a liquor license. read more

I have been coming to Andes cafe periodically over the last few months. The first time I ordered a Latte and a chicharones . The chicharones was served in a little bowl with marinated onions and the latte though lacking something was still palattable. The following 3 times I visited... I ordered the same thing with absolutely no consistency. The chicharones were served differently every single time. Though not in a new or improved way they just seemed to lose something every time. Today however I returned one last time to Andes and to my dismay this was the worst experience. I tried the Andes latte today which at the bottom of the cup was filled with a really chalky batter like substance that was miserable to try and ingest. Followed by the Sanduche pollo a la Brasa which upon first bite and any following left me with a mouth full of small bones. Not like 1 or 2 but I mean literally just a mouth full of chicken bones. Not okay! I asked the waitress about it and she just pointed to the menu and said "Its made with chicken what did you expect?" Well....I expect there not to be bones all over my sandwich. I was outrageously charged for this meal and left feeling hungry and taken advantage of. This place has 0 consistency with their food and clearly lacking in attention to detail. The aura of the restaurant worried us since we were hoping for a authentic cozy restaurant. These frets were instantly forgotten when the menu was handed to us. My family and I come from Bolivia and seeing the variety and authenticity of the foods and drinks we were delighted. The food took a little while to get there, but it was delicious none the less. Was looking for South American food, this place had good reviews so we went. Lunch menu did not have prices on them (hint hint) so we asked the waiter for the prices. We order a lunch special, food was ok...... BUT the portion was a small plate ...AND when our bill came instead of $12 for the plate, we were charged $20!! First time early Mother's Day. Great food and service due a 4 star.... Reason for 3 star rating is timing of order served. When we were there only 3 or 4 tables with customers, so not busy... Ordered appetizer and main course.... First one main course comes out, then 5 min. later appetizer, and finally other person's main course... not good.... Also, Chef owner David Guerrero was seen walking around setting tables and sweeping floors... never came by table to greet us although we said it was our first visit... Seems like David needs to talk to his customers and let bus boy sweep floor. We really want Andes Cafe to succeed and hope to be back for dinner soon. read more
