They had a nice selection of items but I stuck to what I knew. I ordered the chicken biriyani. The cashier did I mind that it was a little spicy and I said no. The meal was absolutely delicious. I had enough left over to eat the rest for dinner. They gave me some different sauces with my order but I didn't need them nor did I even try. The Naan was served warm, slightly puffy, with plenty of actual garlic pieces on top. Ordered the Fish Thali, which was supposed to be Fish Curry, but was far from that. The Fish was filled with a ton of bones, which was unexpected. It also tasted too fishy for me. I did enjoy the Lentils, assorted vegetables, and dessert it came with. The Lentils and veggie dishes were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. I tried some of the Coconut Shrimp Curry, which was delicious! There was a good amount of Shrimp throughout. The Shrimp was tender, while the Curry was full of flavor. Service was decent throughout the meal, however at the end, our waiter did not want to accept cash, even though I had exact change. Stopped by for quick lunch after visiting Kalyustan's across street and noticed they had fish curry thali. Had heard from friends in Bay Area about spicy dishes, and had never tried. I was in the area this week and my favorite restaurant was unexpectedly closed. I was in a rush so I called and tried to place an order by phone and apparently you can't do that and they text you a link to order from. Fine, no problem. I ordered butter chicken and garlic naan. My total was $35 and I didn't realize until after I paid that they jacked up the prices of everything and charged significantly more for a takeout order. The naan was $8 for ONE piece! Insanity. Upon getting to my hotel to eat was where the real disappointment started. There was a black hair on my $8 naan and the butter chicken was far too spicy. The entire meal went right in the trash. My friend was visiting from out of town and was craving for Indian food. I came with a group of 6 ppl for lunch on a Saturday. My husband and I had the chicken tikka masala with white rice, we really enjoyed this dish very much. This is our usually go to dish when we're at an Indian restaurant. My friends ordered the chicken biryani, palak paneer with basmati rice, and paneer butter masala with a side of garlic naan. They thought their dishes were also very good. It is a little too sweet if you don't like fruity drinks. It would've been nicer had this been less syrupy! 3. Kuzhipaniyaram- 4/5 This classic dish was delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Right amount of spice and flavors. The chutneys (coconut and onion) were perfect match too. It was a bit too hot- while I love to hear the sizzle since it's straight from the wok, it took me a few minutes to cool it off to be able to savor the flavors. 4. Chicken Keema dosa- 4/5 The chicken was very well made. It went well with the chutneys and the podi. The podi was definitely a key player in this dish. The dosa was okay. 5. Appam with chicken gravy- 5/5 Perfect dish overall. The coconut milk was amazing. Appam was amazing. The chicken gravy was great too. A tad bit spicy for me but I'm sure it was the normal amount of spice! Overall Anjappar is the perfect spot to satiate your Tamil food cravings. This is an excellent South Indian restaurant. We had a delivery order that came quickly, and was well packed. Portions were generous, and the price was reasonable. We had Seeraga Samba Mutton Biryani, Kullpaniyaram, Vegetable Kuruma Curry, Masala Dosa, Appam, Nattukozi Masala Curry, Payasam and a Mango Lassie. The mutton biryani was delicious with nice boneless soft pieces of meat. The masala dosa came crispy with nicely seasoned potatoes inside. The vegetable kuruma curry had some hot spice but not too much. The appam was deliciously toasty on the outside and soft on the inside with flavorful dipping sauces. The mango lassie was thick and as if a sweet dessert. We enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Highly recommended for authentic South Indian food. Unfortunately, for thali's, one must dine inside. read more

This is an old review for when I came a while back. Came here I believe on a Sunday? This spot is located in curry hill, and it's actually a little bit hidden What did I order? Well, I ordered one thing for myself, but I actually tried a bunch of different things. The benefit of coming for lunch is that you'll be able to try a number of things on the menu, since it's a little cheaper than dinner. One interesting feature of this place is that if you order enough food (I think it's something like over $40 per person) you get a free biryani. The biryani is quite sizable, and you can actually get it to go, so it's not a bad feature. However, like I said before, the biryani is not actually that great (for my taste a little dry), so it doesn't sweeten the deal all that much for me. read more

Been here once before and remember their crab masala was delicious so 4 years later we're back! When walking in we were greeted right away and taken to an open table. There is a QR code to scan for the menu and someone came shortly to take our order. We started with a mango lassi which was delicious and very refreshing. We ordered the crab masala, mutton sukka masala, and garlic naan. Both dishes came with rice automatically. Everything was delicious! Mutton came with lots of pieces and was cooked well. The mutton sukka also only has boneless pieces. The garlic naan was fresh and soft, and the crab masala was definitely the star of the meal. So flavorful and delicious curry too. The crab comes whole so you'll have to know how to break and pull the meat out, but all part of the experience. Overall we had a great meal here and had enough to take home for leftovers. Ordered takeout: Chicken Keema Dosa I'm not a fan of ordering dosa to-go because it loses its crisp texture and tends to become soggy, and that is precisely what happened with this order too. Since this is a common trait shown across most takeout dosa orders, not docking points for this! However, the flavor is where this dish goes downhill. The chicken keema was rather dry and absolutely did not help with the structural integrity of each bite. Beyond it being a messy eat, the flavor was extremely bland. Not spicy, just plain salty. The sambar that was served alongside was watery and this time not even salty. The only facet getting this dish a 2/5 is the nutty, red chutney served on the side which made the rest of it somewhat bearable. Disappointing order but I have heard positive feedback from my friends about Anjappar's biryanis. It's a better idea to stick to their strengths next time. read more

The curries are packed with spices, not necessarily spicy unless intended, but it's always a delight to bite into a whole cardamom pod and know that real ingredients went into a dish. The dosas are large, crisp and accompaniments very tasty. The parotta is delicious and has just the right congealed texture (I genuinely mean this in the best way). All washed down with a Kingfisher? Nothing better. Service was great. We were a little late to our reservation but the staff was very accommodating and kind. They gave great recommendations too. The lady who showed us to the table hung around to take our order and after we were done she loudly yelled at us that somebody else would come take the order. Another person comes in and we repeated our order which he takes down on a small slip of paper that looked like somebody's check. Anyway, 35 minutes pass by and nothing comes out not even the drinks.
