It's Anjappar, of course the food is going to be good, and since we were starving, everything tasted delicious. I was more partial towards the appetizers than the Biryani. Service was quick enough even though the place was packed, and the food was hot and fresh, eventhough we went in at 4 PM, which was neither lunch or dinner time. Decor was typical to most of the Indian restaurant chains in the US.

Came here for dinner with a group. We were given booth seating. The space was nice and colorful. There was a cozy feel to the place. I had a Mango Lassi, which had plenty of mango taste, but was not thick enough for me. We shared the Garlic Naan, which was yummy. The Naan was served warm, slightly puffy, with plenty of actual garlic pieces on top. Ordered the Fish Thali, which was supposed to be Fish Curry, but was far from that. The Fish was filled with a ton of bones, which was unexpected. It also tasted too fishy for me. I did enjoy the Lentils, assorted vegetables, and dessert it came with. The Lentils and veggie dishes were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. I tried some of the Coconut Shrimp Curry, which was delicious! There was a good amount of Shrimp throughout. The Shrimp was tender, while the Curry was full of flavor. Service was decent throughout the meal, however at the end, our waiter did not want to accept cash, even though I had exact change. There was no indication that the restaurant only takes credit card, so this response was very strange to me. Prices were reasonable overall, however I was not satisfied with my meal, so would not return.

Went back again still good, but getting pricy. The service was ok. The food good. So holds up.

My friend was visiting from out of town and was craving for Indian food. I came with a group of 6 ppl for lunch on a Saturday. The place was nice and the service was good. We ordered a few starters for everyone to share. We had the onion pakoda, vegetable samosa, and chicken lollipop. The onion pakoda was my favorite, it was so crispy. The vegetable samosa was ok, nothing special, and the chicken lollipop was too spicy for me. My husband and I had the chicken tikka masala with white rice, we really enjoyed this dish very much. This is our usually go to dish when we're at an Indian restaurant. My friends ordered the chicken biryani, palak paneer with basmati rice, and paneer butter masala with a side of garlic naan. They thought their dishes were also very good. Not sure if I would go back, I've had better Indian food elsewhere. There's also a lot of different Indian restaurants in the area I would like to try out.

It's been a while since I got the chance to eat authentic Tamil food. Anjappar came through for me!! It's a quaint little restaurant when you enter but you never feel like you are in a small space. The decor, the music, the staff welcoming you with a smile... everything makes you look forward to a wonderful meal! 1. Nannari Sarbath- 5/5 It turned out to be the perfect drink to start with to cool down from a humid walk and look over the menu. It was delicious and definitely cooling to the body. I love that they did not ice it down. It was a much needed sparkling drink. 2. Chennai Coconut Martini- 4/5 I ordered this mainly out of curiosity! It was wonderful too. Definitely tropical drink with coconut and pineapple in it. The alcohol note was subtle but there. It paired well with the main dishes and to finish off the meal. It is a little too sweet if you don't like fruity drinks. It would've been nicer had this been less syrupy! 3. Kuzhipaniyaram- 4/5 This classic dish was delicious. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Right amount of spice and flavors. The chutneys (coconut and onion) were perfect match too. It was a bit too hot- while I love to hear the sizzle since it's straight from the wok, it took me a few minutes to cool it off to be able to savor the flavors. 4. Chicken Keema dosa- 4/5 The chicken was very well made. It went well with the chutneys and the podi. The podi was definitely a key player in this dish. The dosa was okay. 5. Appam with chicken gravy- 5/5 Perfect dish overall. The coconut milk was amazing. Appam was amazing. The chicken gravy was great too. A tad bit spicy for me but I'm sure it was the normal amount of spice! Overall Anjappar is the perfect spot to satiate your Tamil food cravings. Look forward to returning to try other dishes on their menu. Thank you for the wonderful experience Anjappar!

Service was great! Came in and was seated quickly and when we asked to swap out one of the dishes (we swapped out the baby corn Manchurian since it wasn't very good), and they had no hesitation at all. Dosa is okay (very subpar), but the chicken biryani was delicious and super flavorful! I would come back for the biryani and the chili chicken!

This is an excellent South Indian restaurant. We had a delivery order that came quickly, and was well packed. Portions were generous, and the price was reasonable. We had Seeraga Samba Mutton Biryani, Kullpaniyaram, Vegetable Kuruma Curry, Masala Dosa, Appam, Nattukozi Masala Curry, Payasam and a Mango Lassie. The mutton biryani was delicious with nice boneless soft pieces of meat. The masala dosa came crispy with nicely seasoned potatoes inside. The vegetable kuruma curry had some hot spice but not too much. The appam was deliciously toasty on the outside and soft on the inside with flavorful dipping sauces. The mango lassie was thick and as if a sweet dessert. We enjoyed the meal thoroughly. Highly recommended for authentic South Indian food. Unfortunately, for thali's, one must dine inside.

Lots of restaurants from the Indian diaspora in this neighborhood but friends recommended Anjapar. Food was delicious with robust South Indian spices. Ambiance is average; not sure what look they were going for but sort of "blah" for lack of a better word. Service is very average; wait staff was friendly but lackluster and uncaring once they leave your table. We had to remind them several times about various requests (and no - we were not being demanding).

    Mutton Sukka Masala Curry

Been here once before and remember their crab masala was delicious so 4 years later we're back! When walking in we were greeted right away and taken to an open table. There is a QR code to scan for the menu and someone came shortly to take our order. We started with a mango lassi which was delicious and very refreshing. We ordered the crab masala, mutton sukka masala, and garlic naan. Both dishes came with rice automatically. Everything was delicious! Mutton came with lots of pieces and was cooked well. The mutton sukka also only has boneless pieces. The garlic naan was fresh and soft, and the crab masala was definitely the star of the meal. So flavorful and delicious curry too. The crab comes whole so you'll have to know how to break and pull the meat out, but all part of the experience. Overall we had a great meal here and had enough to take home for leftovers. Can't wait to come back!

Great service, nice ambiance, and excellent food! The tikka masala was a little on the sweet side for my taste, but the texture was absolutely divine, very creamy. Five stars for the garlic naan, which I WILL be finishing off this evening. Oh my word, so flakey and lovely! All in all a solid meal. I'd love to go back.

Had dinner with some old friends at this place on a Wednesday evening. We ordered the onion pakora, chicken 65, and chicken lollipop for our appetizers and the ghee masala dosa and their special mutton biryani. My favorite would have the be the onion pakora, ghee masala dosa and the mutton biryani. This is a great place to go to if you're really hungry and in the mood for some authentic South Indian food. Overall, great food and chill spot. Would definitely come back here for more food.

However, sometimes you just take a chance and pray it lives up to the hype. Having a short period of time before our show at Radio City Music Hall, two of us shared a quick bite here after a few snacks on the nearby street fair. Just one order of Chicken Tikka Marsala, Garlic Naan, and a Mango Lassi. I'm actually not a big fan of Chicken Tikka Marsala because it's often too sweet and creamy for me. Though the chicken was overcooked, I did find this version quite differernt, in a good way. It had depth, and definitely a lot of heat, even on the medium level, the spiciness was very noticeable. My dining partner would have died without that Mango Lassi, which was yummy. Lmao On the other hand, the Garlic Naan was horrible. Instead of being a pillowy soft bread with some chew, it was stiff and cardboard-ish. This is one of the worst versions I had in NYC. Not sure how this major blunder can be overlooked. Naan is such an important part of Indian food culture, I can't believe they haven't realize that they need to fix this matter. Btw, service was efficient, almost too efficient that it felt rushed. One minute after we were seated, we were asked if ready to order. Again, we were asked literally one minute later. Then, just as we were finishing our meal, and while I'm still chewing my final bite of food, the bus boy cane to take our plates away. I was technically done, but would have like to have had a minute. Finally, without asking about desserts, another server came by with our check as if to say, "Please pay and make room for the next guests." I know we wanted a quick meal, but never thought we would be in and out of a situation down restaurant in less than 30 minutes. Hahaha Anyway, I live in Queens where we have same quality Indian restaurants at a much lower price point. Portions are bigger too. For me, this is an attempt at finding a gem that everyone seems to suggest. Unfortunately, it's hard for me to return to an Indian restaurant knowing they can't properly make naan.

However, we never really got to it, having been busy exploring the Semmas and Bungalows of the city. On a cold Saturday evening my partner and I decided to give Indian Accent a shot - got rather last minute reservations over the phone. They were kind enough to accommodate us for a 7 pm slot, and once we got there we were seated immediately. We chose the four course menu, and found each course to be better than the one before! The shorba (soup) and garlic kulcha amuse bouche was a nice touch to get things started - loved the tiny terracotta mugs. Proceeded onto the shakarkandi chaat and the chilly pork roti - the former reminding me of the delectable street food in Delhi winters with the latter being a very good Indian rif on birria tacos. The star of the show for me was the Tofu medu vada - so unique and flavorful and melt in the mouth! I've not had anything quite like it before. My partner had the wagyu kebab that he said was excellent! For mains we had the chicken malai and the paneer - both tasty, but by this point we were already so full, and had to get most of the mains to go. But because there's always room for dessert, for our final course we scarfed down doda barfi with ice-cream and sticky toffee banana pudding - both of which were finger licking delish! Our service was great too - Ty our server was so nice and had the best recommendations. I'd have never gone for the tofu medu vada among all the other options and he urged me to, and it really turned out to be the highlight of my meal. The cocktails were good too. All in all, I think this is such a nice upscale Indian dining spot for a night out in the city. Having tried most of the other trending newer spots, i think Indian Accent sits right among the top! I'd highly recommend and cannot wait to be back!

Surprisingly quiet for a Saturday. $46 for a 2-course brunch is a great deal for an elevated meal, especially since the two courses come with a side ("accompaniment"). Quick heads up if you've been to the original in New Delhi, while they share a name, the New York experience pales in comparison. New Delhi is a full tasting menu with bold, unique flavors and presentation. New York is much more westernized, a fusion fit for the American palate. Service was consistent throughout, though not the most helpful when it came to menu questions - don't expect much guidance if you're trying to decide between dishes. They start you off with a tiny mug of pumpkin soup, creamy and delicious. The burrata comes as a big ball of cheese with crispy lotus root for scooping. The dal with naan as your accompaniment is a generous portion and the dal is beautifully flavored. The tawa paneer has a lovely presentation but the flavor didn't stand out. Coorg black pork was moist and paired perfectly with the cracklings. Best part of the meal was the Truman Bazaar cocktail - Truman vodka, suze, and tomato foam. Sweet, bitter, and spicy all at once - a genuinely unique combination.

There is a reason for the line: Annapurna Bhavan is good. It's not amazing good, but it's better than any of the Saravanaas locations in NYC. The food here is commendably non-greasy, like what amma might make at home. And the decor, AC, and clean bathroom also make the overall experienced far more civilized than the competition. The masala dosa is crisp and light, filled with a basic, but well made aloo masala, mostly just turmeric-tinged potato and black mustard seed. No nuts, peas, dal or even alliums, I don't think. (Please double check on the alliums if you follow a Jain diet.) The accompanying sambar is thick with dal. I personally enjoy a slightly soupier consistency, with more vegetables and more tamarind -- but of course that's completely a stylistic preference. The FIL loved it. I missed the tomato chutney that often comes with dosa. (It's summer for goodness sakes! I want my tomatoes!) There was standard issue coconut chutney on the side. Sambar vada was well made, a generous portion made with the same thick sambar that comes with dosa. We also tried the bhindi masala, which was so-so. Flavors were balanced, but a good portion of the okra in the dish was burnt and rubbery, unfortunately. Not sure what happened there. Drinks: Rose milk was VERY sweet. (I wish I'd thought to ask for another glass of plain milk to dilute it.) They have a brief, but decent wine list including whatever crisp white wine the Pardner ordered (guessing it was a sauvignon blanc). I frankly don't love alcoholic beverages with Indian vegetarian food -- maybe I feel too sacrilegious -- but if you do, Annapurna Bhavan appears to have a full bar.

The star of the show is Jaz herself -- the owner, hostess, and bartender all rolled into one wonderfully warm, charming British woman who somehow makes you feel like you've been a regular for years within thirty seconds of walking through the door. She's the kind of host who remembers how you like your chai and makes the whole room feel like her living room. Now, the food. The Chana Masala is deeply spiced, rich with tomato and chickpeas, the kind of dish that makes you question every mediocre version you've had before. The Saag is silky, fragrant, and genuinely soulful -- spinach that actually tastes like something. And the Onion Kulcha? Pillowy, caramelized, absolutely yummy -- the kind of bread you'll be tearing into long after you're full. The flavors here are the real thing -- bold, layered, and unapologetically authentic.
