I wasn't expecting much from Anmol. The boyfriend and I were hungry so we played the "random restaurant on Yelp" game. Fortunately, we won this time. The first thing I noticed - it was crackin'. The restaurant was almost completely full of people having a good time, lots of families and large groups. The food looked and smelled delicious, and even better, everyone looked like they enjoying it. Time to throw down. The second thing I noticed - the employees were EXTRA nice. They greeted us with sincere smiles, and really, I mean really, seemed happy that we were dining there. Even though they didn't seem to need our business much, they treated us like we were Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Third thing - prices are cray cray status cheap. We went a little HAM on ordering and we ended up being comatose full without burning a huge hole in our wallets. Next - the food. is. delicious. We ordered an Anmol Platter, Chicken Biryani, Onion Kulcha, and Chicken Pakora. Everything was well cooked and full of flavor. The Chicken Biryani was pretty spicy, but still delish. Like I said, I wasn't expecting much. Look up "no frills" in the dictionary and there's a picture of Anmol. White walls, plain tables and chairs that look like they were bought at a hardware store and DASSIT ("that's it" for those who don't speak Maurica Rodriguez). I was craving some ras malai so I literally searched just for that on yelp. Anmol was one of the restaurants that popped up. The mutton chops were SO good. We ordered platter #1 which comes with chicken, mutton chops, tilapia, and Bihari kabob. We enjoyed the mutton and tilapia the most. Lamb biriyani, butter chicken, and naan were also delicious. Anmol is a rare gem and relative newcomer on the pakistani culinary landscape. The ambience is typical but what sets Anmol apart from the others is the homemade style cooking. Most pakistani restaurants are losing their quality and substituting "shan" masala mix for a majority of their dishes. I judge a indo pak restaurant on three items: mutton biryani, chicken boti and chana daal. Mutton biryani was awesome. Nice mix of spices and generous portions of meat. Chicken boti was flavorful and tender. The best I ever had in my life. Chana daal was simply good. A nice compliment to any dish. read more

The boyfriend and I were in the mood for some curry and I suggested we try this newish place I'd seen on Devon. We were very pleased with the results. We wandered in at about 4:30 on a Saturday and at first we had the place to ourselves, however, more people came in as we dined. When we sat down the wait-staff brought us papadams with three sauces, sweet tamarind, yogurt-mint and tamarind cilantro and a platter of cucumbers, tomatoes onions and lettuce. We ordered the #1 and #3 platters which were $12 each. Platter #1 consisted of 2 tandoori goat chops, a nice fillet of tandoori spiced fish, 2 Chicken shashlik kebabs and some very spicy (beef) Bihari. Platter #3 consisted of Malal Boti (chicken breast marinated in spices, ginger, garlic & lemon juice), Hara Bhara (chicken breast marinated in green herbs & spices), Kastoori (chicken breast in a mildly spicy sauce) and beef and chicken Golas(2 each). Golas are ground meat mixed with onions, garlic, & spice etc and made into a cutlet and cooked on a kebab. The chicken gola was yogurt mint & cilantro and the beef had jalapenos in it. So, both of these items were probably the most spicy of the items we tried. Now, I LOVE spicy and hot food, but it strikes me that some might find so many spicy cuts of meat a bit overwhelming at one time. However, we DID order the assortment of lots of spicy bbq'd kebabs, so we knew what we were getting ourselves into. Staff was excellent about making sure our water glasses were kept full, which we appreciated as we completed our meal. This is really a carnivore's paradise. They serve goat, mutton, chicken, beef, shrimp, and organ meats. Still, vegetarians can enjoy the dining there too, as there were at least 6 non-meat dishes (curries & appetizers), and several types of naan, paratha and kulcha. The plain Naan is no longer free with a meal ($1 a person) but the helpings are generous. The meat here is Halal, which I'd never had before. I've heard some people say that such can be dry and tasteless, but I didn't find that to be the case. Also, the chicken is organic and hand-fed by Amish farmers. We both agreed that the chicken was extremely tender and succulent but the best dish was the fish fillet. The service was good, as I mentioned before. In fact, I heard one of the other diners complain that his food was cold, and they promptly brought him a brand-new steaming-hot dish of food, with no quibbles. The decor was a trifle spartan, but given the quality of the food, I didn't mind it. We were very happy with the portions, (ended up taking half of it home) and walked out of the place stuffed and happy. I'm definitely recommending it to my friends. read more

Excellent in service (hostesses were REALLY NICE--especially Jen and Erika), food was delicious, bathrooms were clean, and so much more. We ordered platter #1 and the Chicken Chargha, and they were very flavorful and tender, not to mention the great taste. The naans were one of the best and softest we have had on Devon; they were not even burned and crispy like at other restaurants. Did we mention the very affordable dessert? The mango shake! Wow! And they don't even charge an arm and a leg for this smooth and creamy shake!! I almost forgot! The Kashmiri chai was amazing. It was the authentic 'pink' color, with ground pistachios and other nuts on the side. We found out through others about the authenticity of the 'halal' claims and we were quite impressed! i hope they continue to keep this trust with their customers. I used a daily Groupon as an excuse to get us over to Anmol for lunch. Having checked out the menu before we came, I had a pretty strong sense that this was going to be a meaty mcmeat-meat kind of lunch and I was correct. We each ordered a barbecue platter. Mine had Tandoori chops (meh), grilled fish (quite good), chicken shashlik (very good and tender) and Bihari Kabob (tender and very spicy). Christopher had a platter with Malai Boti, Hara Bhara Chicken, Kastoori Chicken, Chicken Gola Kabab, and Beef Gola Kabab. The best was the Hara Bhara Chicken. It was made with mint, and was very tasty. The other items were good too, but the Hara Bhara was a stand out for him. We also ordered garlic naan, which was good, but pretty typical of what we have had other places. The papadums and veggie platter with sauces that come with the meal were good. To be honest, I was glad we had them because we had to wait a very long time for our food. I get and appreciate that everything is cooked fresh to order, but my one issue that keeps me from giving it 4 stars was that there really could have been more attention paid to the table. We sat for long stretches of time with no one checking up on us, and there was only one other table of customers in the whole place. The drinks took 20 minutes to get they didn't give us ice they just gave us the coke cans and left then brought the food over which was uncooked the chicken was absolutely disgusting. First time in the area, we were looking for a daddy of all Indian places. Our search missed the mark. Polite people and adequate service. Restaurant is fairly clean but the decor is rather skimpy. I got spicy chicken makhani, and bf got palak Paneer. Chicken was good, very flavorful and tender, albeit a tad greasy. Paneer was a bit of a miss, it was slightly bitter. Servings are heavy with enough for lunch the next day. Their naan is solid, but nothing to rave about. Mango lassi however, is absolute fire. The restaurant and ambiance is minimal. We had to wait for some time to pickup our food but it was well worth it. There are not too many Pakistani restaurants on Devon so this was a welcome surprise. We had Anmol Platter #3. Except for chicken gola kabab everything was good. We ordered chicken handi also which was good also. There isn't quite as much commotion west of California on Devon. It's a bit quieter and you've passed about 4,000 Indo-Pak places if you started going west from Ridge. So it is easy to miss Anmol. I know I did for a long while. My loss really. This food is quality. We split a BBQ platter that contained 4 different chicken dishes and a beef dish, as well as a dish of chicken makhani. The BBQ platter had a couple of winners and nothing that was anything less than good. The makhani was excellent. When we ate it at dinner it was mildly spicy. The next day at lunch it had grown into a bully with a much deeper heat, slapping my tongue around and giving it a wedgie. My tongue being something of a masochist enjoyed every minute of it. The thing that struck me though about Anmol was... How can I say this without sounding like an awful person? Most places on Devon it is well known that the service runs at a different pace than in your typical American restaurant. The pace is slower, less vigilant about attending to the customer at all times. And this seems to be accepted by most patrons. Anmol doesn't roll like that. Our waiter was highly engaged, and it was his rec that sent us to the makhani, for which I am grateful. Nothing about the service was anything but first-rate. For what we paid I'm quite happy with the amount of food we got. I'm recommending Anmol without reservation. Get there, let them take care of you, and you will be happy with the results. read more

I recently had their Tandoori Chicken Chargha - it was so good I went back again! Tender, juicy, not too spicy and sooooooooooooo flavorful! I was directed to Anmol by a very nice taxi driver who told me about this place after I mentioned I wanted to try different cultural foods, and I gotta say I'm glad he told me about this place. . I went with some buddies of mine and we weren't sure on what we should try and our waiter recommended some Onion Kulcha for appetizers that was absolutely delicious. They even provide a spicy red sauce that I found myself drenching everything in. . NOW ON TO THE MAIN COURSE!!! the food was Deeelicious!! and a bonus is that they can make it SPICY (droll)...I recommend the Mutton Briyani (goat with rice), or If you want to try a wide variety of their menu then the platters are for you, which contain all sorts of meats on them. I must mention the Tandoori Charga a chicken dish that was soooo good and moist (as I'm writing this I'm starting to crave it). . I got mutton biryani and Tandoori chicken to go. The uber I was going back made the driver hungry! :) I was welcomed into the restaurant so warmly. I felt really comfortable and welcome. I mention this because it is not very common on W Devon. The biryani was delicious! The goat was so well cooked and flavorsome. Reminded me of the real thing. I certify it as being the real biryani. It is indeed a bit moist with lots of masala probably because it was Bombay style. The tandoori chicken was flavorful but I don't think it was made in a tandoor, which makes the difference. I heard this is the place to come to for Paki BBQ in Chicago. I came here with 4 adults and a baby. The food is on the cheaper side for Paki/Indian restuarants which tends to be overpriced, in my opinion. The nihari was tasty, which we were a bit surprised by since we weren't expecting good nihari at a bbq place. Make sure to order naan to go with your bbq and dig in to the bone-in chicken. We asked if we could get white meat but the waiter said they couldn't do that...The baby became fussy half way through dinner but none of the diners seemed to mind. I've been here twice and the food quality has been consistent and good. This place has Pakistani/Indian Cuisine with decent appetizers, rice, barbecue and gravy dishes to choose from. The first time we ordered some chicken biryani, malai kababs and chicken tikka. The biryani was phenomenal and so were the malai kababs. The second time around I went there in Ramadan for a buffet layout and they had a very wide spread: salad, beef samosas (appetizer), pakoras (appetizer), chicken biryani, lamb gravy, mixed vegetables, chicken gravy handi, pizza, mutton gravy, naan, fruit chaat and some mixed fruit creamy custard! Everything was superb especially the lamb gravy, chicken biryani, samosas and the dessert. I'd recommend anyone to go there because of their consistent good quality and tasteful food. In my opinion, one of the better Indian/Paki restaurants on Devon. Good seating. Neat and clean. My favorites = chicken malai boti and lamb chops. Lamb chops are some of the best I have had in my life. I have yet to try out more places. We were seated right away around 8-9 PM on a Saturday. Soon after the place became completely PACKED! Nonetheless, the service was amazing and we kept having different servers repeatedly check on us. We had Anmol Platter Three, Bhindi Masala, Daal Chana Fry, Malai Kofta, and Chicken Makhani. The chicken platter is AMAZING. I could eat the Mango chicken all day. Definitely everyone's favorite! The rest of the dishes were meh. Nothing all that special. We wished we had just gotten the grilled chicken and naans. We checked into yelp and got a free dessert. This year Thanksgiving just snuck up on me and startled me half to death when I realized it was only 2 days away and I had not planned a gosh darn thing!! On Thanksgiving morning I scrambled to find a place where my dad, brother and I could have "Thanksgiving Dinner" and remembered that my Pakistani friend really loves this place. I thanked my lucky stars when I called and was told that they were, indeed, open! We got complementary papar (large crispy chips made from lentils) with 3 different sauces. We ordered veggie samosas, veggie biryani, nihari (personal recommendation from my Pakistani friend), tendoori chicken charga and naan. Everything was delicious - I especially loved the chicken, which was so tender and moist with just enough kick from the spices and the nihari was so flavorful and will be my go-to dish anytime I go back. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The servings are large and I had leftovers for the next 2 days...I am not into leftovers (when I was a kid my mom would make one huge meal for the entire week...it was culinary hell!), but I was so happy to have Anmol leftovers. We left with happy, full bellies and smiles on our faces. I will make this a Thanksgiving tradition...a stress-free Thanksgiving with superb Pakistani food. read more

We ordered 5 dishes 4 of them were great. Chicken, bryiani, vegi meat balls and stue, samosa, and nehari. The rice wasn't too great but they still earned 5 stars because the service was great. The manager/owner replaced the tray. Then came back and kindly asked us for feedback back in the first dish we turned back to make corrections. I think the level of care they put into the food shows they give you quality food and care of the image and name they put forth.
