What I can say! I've been waiting for so long to do a review of this place. As one of the oldest LGBTQ+ establishments in DC, it has kept its old non-progressive ways that shadow the gay progressive efforts! In the 20 years I've been in DC, I haven't seen a true effort of this establishment to embrace diversity. I will not recommend a place where diversity is not celebrated, ... and just tolerated! Stopped into Annies for happy hour the other day with some girlfriends and was pleasantly surprised. The ambiance is great, we sat in the outdoor section and got to people watch on a very sunny day. The happy hour martini deal is amazing- $10 for a martini of your choice, and they were massive. We got some burgers as well that we thoroughly enjoyed. The service was quick and our waiter was lovely. Annie's is a great place for a little get together and we will hopefully be back for more martinis soon! read more

Annie's has a reputation of respecting all people, from all walks of life. But I see no clearer manifestation of that respect for others, than in one small often-overlooked detail. Four words; more than enough ketchup. More than enough everything. Did I need a bowl of BBQ sauce for my already-sauced ribs? No. But the thought means the world to me. I'm a grown man. I require more than a thimble of ketchup, sue me. We all deserve to avoid ketchup rationing. It's 2022....it's America. Came here because I needed a quick bite before I left DC. I had intentions on going to a different restaurant in the neighborhood but came across Annie's on my way there. The vibe and feel of Annie's was extremely welcoming. The staff was super friendly and worked hard to accomodate my group and I with outdoor seating. We were very adamant about sitting outside because the decor was extremely beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. When we sat down our waitress was super sweet and tailored our drinks and food to our liking (we are a picky group ). I had Annie's lemonade and it was very good. My friends had the Rum Punch. While they said it was tasty they also said it was sweet. The food was enjoyable. We started as a group with the Mac & Cheese bites. I expected to see little crusted balls of mac and cheese but they literally give you a bite size amount of macaroni pie. It definitely taste good. For my entree, I had the blackened salmon sandwich and it was yummy. Overall, the food and drinks are affordable and the overall experience was great! I enjoyed it as did my friends. Annie's holds a special place in my heart. My first time at Annie's was as a teenager. Probably 16 or 17 years old, wandering around Dupont, exploring and seeing what the community was all about. My memories of Annie's were filled with warmth, great service, and solid food. All these years later, it seems that nothing has changed, and I couldn't be any happier. I went for a Brunch Xmas party where the top floor was reserved. The top floor, probably about enough space for 40-50 people is definitely cozy, but also perfect for an event of that size. The bar is long and can serve a decent amount of guests. Service during brunch was very friendly and warm, especially from the bar tender, who was whipping out drinks as fast as Rihanna can put out top hit singles. I decided on the Virginia Ham Steak and eggs. The ham was thick, much thicker than you would have expected. Probably like half an inch thick. It was much appreciated. I moved the salt and pepper to season my home fries presumptuously ( as I find home-fries are notoriously under-seasoned; one of the most serious societal flaws underpinning our current economy). The home-fries were very well seasoned. The grilled pineapple that accompanied my hamsteak was ripe and subtly grilled; just enough to give it that wonderful grilled flavor. My fellow diner ordered the rib-eye which was cooked perfectly to the requested temp of medium rare. The steak was juicy, tender, and seasoned well. Hollandaise was appropriate thickness, and the three poached eggs that accompanied were properly poached. Everything was quite nice. Really my only wish was that they used refrigerated grapefruit juice for cocktails. It's just so so many leagues better than that canned stuff. The canned stuff should be sent to the 7th circle in my opinion. #GrapefruitJuiceConnoisseur Other than that, a HIGHLY enjoyable brunch. I'd 100 percent go back. Not particularly amazed or pleased with this place. Honestly not sure why this place was so packed when I went during a Monday night. The steak orders for my entire table were wrong. And then when they returned our steaks they were all overcooked. We had well, medium and medium well steaks we ordered - none of them were cooked properly. $28 dollars for a steak and it was disappointing. Crab cakes were nothing to write home about either. $8 extra to add a crab cake to a steak dish, my other friend got a crab cake dish and didn't even finish it. It was ok in taste but some of it was dry. The tartar sauce was the thing that made it ok to eat. Fried shrimp was pretty good. green beans and mashed potatoes were okay. Carrot cake was dense but tasty. Wouldn't come back again. read more

I love the new bright and peppy patio, really is delightful. I recently ate an outdoor brunch here on a Friday morning because it seemed like the seats were spaced out more so than other establishments. The service was fantastic, very accommodating of distancing and followed all the protocols. The brunch was great! I ordered the French toast with breaded chicken and home fries. Everything about it hit the right cord. Especially the home fries which very chunky cuts but well done and pan charred just enough to be caramelized and crunchy but not too much. After a long day of sight seeing, I wanted a nice meal without breaking the bank. I found Annie's through a google search and since it wasn't too far from my hotel, I went. I was dining solo and given a seat in the dining room area. I ordered the filet mignon special with baked potato and upgraded to a salad. Also, I had a tasty lemon-pomegranate beverage. Food was good. Not mind blowing, but tasty and filling and it didn't make me broke. Those are all good things in my book. Fish & Chips were actually frozen fish sticks and at $23.00 they should not be offered on main menu. Burgers use to be really good but they have decreased on the quality and size. Pot Roast serving was barely the size to feed a child and again quite pricey. Onion Rings were overcooked. We should have sent most of the meals back to the kitchen. Been going here since the 2000 but will not most likely return until food quality improves and prices go down. read more

Our kids (this was a party of 14) went out for a nice evening for Prom and ended up with the worst service for dinner. Most of the entrees were undercooked, under seasoned and basically sub par for a restaurant of this caliber. When it came time to settle up, our kids asked to split the check. This is where the remainder of the evening went downhill. The staff and the management couldn't use elementary math to save their lives. Let me just share, the meal was absolutely delicious. My out of town guests enjoyed their tasty meal. No question - we enjoyed dinner. The service on the other hand was "suspect" and absolutely horrible. The waiter is/was argumentative and combative with us. First incident was a simple clarity on an order (which he did not write down ). He was belligerent in his response to my elderly guest. Barking at her that she was wrong and he was right. Then came our efforts to correct the pricing of her meal. Again, he would not address the misunderstanding. I asked for the manager on-duty. He tried. He tried to make our experience somewhat manageable, to no avail. The waiter was just a complete jerk. I then tried to get our ticket to cash out. We waited and waited.. and waiting over 10-minutes, I finally asked for the manager on-duty to help use cash out. At the register, the waiter was mouthing off to me, while the manager was trying to close out my ticket. Finally, the manager asked the waiter to "be quiet and leave." But that did not stop the waiter. He continued to buck, wrangle and bicker - like a useless tick. If you want to be treated like crap go there... There's always an ugly twin. read more

Just metro'd to DuPont Circle and back from NoMa because I had a hankering for the steakhouse wedge salad at Annie's -- best wedge salad in DC, bar none! I love Annie's but, to fully understand it, you have to appreciate this place for what it is: Annie's is not a hip new place to bring your tourist relatives to. It is not well-suited if you're looking to be in the company of a room full of Gen Zers and young millennials. The cuisine and atmosphere are not terribly inventive or unique, but it is a reliable, comfortable classic -- just like you sometimes long for a plate of your mom's mac-n-cheese, sometimes you need to ditch the overpriced tapas and high-end price fixe menus for a night at Annie's. The crowd leans somewhat on the older side (I'll be in that demographic soon myself- so nothing wrong with that!) and many of them are regulars who know the bartenders and waiters. The menu is filled with classic steakhouse/American comfort classics -- steaks, pork chops, burgers, salads, and the aforementioned steakhouse wedge salad: a delicious wedge salad with a 6 oz sirloin (or filet for a modest up charge). I had a rum punch to drink on this most recent visit - served in a full-size glass just like their waters and soft drinks. It was a bit on the sweet side but still quite good. On a previous visit, I ordered a Cosmo - which also did not disappoint. In short, if you need a casual, comfortable, reasonably priced and delicious down-home dinner in one of DC's most charming neighborhoods and in a restaurant/bar that still has "regulars" - pay Annie's a visit! read more

June 2019. I guarantee that Annie's will be featured in a Netflix special. Support this business. Before visiting, I didn't know that Annie's won the James Beard America's Classic award this year. Also, I didn't know about Annie's deep connection to the community. Still, I would have still stated with steadfast conviction that this restaurant has top-tier service and top-quality food. If you want a great meal, go to Annie's. I had a Sirloin steak (10 oz.) with a baked potato and sliced tomatoes. Because I was solo, I sat at the bar. Georgia was my server/bartender. Georgia and I became instant best friends and swapped stories most of the evening. It turns out, Georgia is the owner's daughter and Annie was her great aunt. Scotty was also behind the bar. He was very outgoing and has worked at Annie's for 19+ years! 10 oz Sirloin Steak: Cooked to a PERFECT medium rare and seasoned beautifully. Couldn't ask for a better steak. Definitely in the top 3 best sirloins I've ever had. Baked Potato: Perfectly cooked. Crispy outside and a soft inside. No constructive feedback. Sliced tomatoes: Good, fresh tomato. Hard to mess this one up...no feedback. Service: You could not ask for better service. Georgia is an expert at hospitality. While at the bar, I noticed that the food runners and wait staff were engaged in constant communication, all equally focused on ensuring quality and expedience. It was like watching a model service flow that other restaurants try to copy. After ordering my meal, Georgia asked if anything on the Beer/Wine List looked good. I told her I would wait because I hadn't eaten since breakfast. *****Without me asking her, Georgia stopped what she was doing, walked into the kitchen, and told it to put a rush on my food order because I was very hungry. I was blown-away at her thoughtfulness and initiative. What's even more impressive - it was genuine. It wasn't a practiced act. Despite me being a stranger, she actually cared.***** Minutes later, my food came out piping hot and perfectly cooked. Also, all of the members of the waitstaff were wearing smiles and laughing with customers. Everyone was kind and outgoing. Amazing. History: I learned from Georgia that Annie's has a deep history of supporting people of the LGBTQ community over the past 70 years. Apparently, this was one of the very first safe places in DC where people didn't have to hide who they were. Today, the memory of Annie is still celebrated by patrons and waitstaff alike. So I feel in love with Annie's a few years back. When we would travel to DC each summer to spend time with a dear friend. The late night spot filled with amazing decor and energy. Is what I look for in restaurants. Annie also has the coolest staff and cooks. This space use to be 24 hour PRE covid. So call for updated times. What I loved most about this establishment is the variety of foods on the menu. The breakfast is amazing and reminds you of a great home made breakfast prepared with love. I am in the area more frequent now as we recently purchased some rental property in the DMV area. Was crushed when the waiter informed me that the breakfast was not all day any longer. Dear Annie your breakfast is the highlight of the place please bring it back. In closing I will say if your looking for great food in a warm cosy environment filled with charm and food prepared like your favorite aunt prepared it. It's very sad for me to be writing this review as I have been a happy customer of this location for years. On my most recent visit to Annie's, I was given service that was extremely rude and disrespectful for no reason at all. When I asked for a specific type of cheese to go on my sandwich, the manager said it wasn't available. After going into the kitchen and asking the chef, the manager found out the restaurant does serve the cheese that I asked for, and replied with an insolent remark, insulting me for putting her through the trouble of checking with the chef. Even having the audacity to complain about having to have someone translate between English and Spanish because the staff speaks a different language. After the cheesesteak was cooked, I chose to check my food before leaving the restaurant and make sure that everything was correct. Unfortunately, there was no cheese on the sandwich. The manager asked for me to pay for the additional cheese to be put on the sandwich. The sandwich I ordered was a cheesesteak and so by definition, it should have cheese included with the sandwich and the cheese was already paid for in the price of the meal. The manager was very reluctant to fix the sandwich and acted as if I was burdening her to correct the food. She didn't want to acknowledge that the order was made incorrectly I had to argue with her to send the sandwich back in the kitchen to add the cheese, which is ridiculous. While the sandwich was being fixed she went on to continue to complain about having to fix the sandwich. Even saying that I was questioning her integrity and that the CUSTOMER is not always correct. read more

I have been going to Annie's for 15 years, but tonight was the worst. Our server took our order, brought drinks and then never, ever came back until she asked if everything was okay when we had out cards out to pay. I know a lot of the employees here, and one, who brought us drinks(not our server) said.. and I quote "she's stupid"! For the second time in my life, I ask for a manager (45 years old).. he gave an excuse.. it's pride weekend, we've been busy. Really? If you can't provide basic refills, why are you in the business.
