My first breakfast in Raleigh was at this restaurant in the North Hills, but my mediocre dining experience at the time didn't seem to warrant a review. This morning I tried the breakfast spot again with five hungry guy friends, and I was very impressed. The restaurant was packed so we sat outside, which admittedly was a bad idea given how chilly it was. Because of how busy they were, the service was a little slow, but this is North Carolina after all. First thing I did upon arriving was check into Yelp, and to my delight I received a reward for a free latte or muffin. The guys jealously downloaded the app and excitedly redeemed their rewards as well. Honestly, six free lattes would annoy me as a server, but our waiter Daniel was patient, gracious and friendly. He was willing to accommodate two substitute hot chocolates in place of lattes, and even brought us out the muffins as a bonus! My hot chocolate was - for lack of better word - "on point." The whipped cream contained chocolate drizzle and the adorable Broken Egg mug kept it warm, even in the shade. The muffins were incredibly light and moist chocolate treats...I ate three (two at home). As for our meals, I got the fried green tomatoes which I had been eyeing up since I had a business breakfast at the Durham location. The appetizer was huge, with juicy breaded tomatoes over a bed of lettuce topped with crab. I ambiguously asked for a sauce to dip in and Daniel brought out an excellent buttermilk garlic-type dressing. I had to box half of my meal, it was so big, and it was the only item on my bill, totaling breakfast to $10 + tip. I sampled a few other items on the table. The crab stack looked delicious, but I was not all that impressed when I tried it. The grit patty on it was a nice touch, but the toast feels like carb overload and I personally just don't like andouille sausage, but I am sure for someone with that type of palette, it would be a grand slam. The crisp breakfast potatoes that came on the side were awesome. Some of my friends also got the breakfast burrito and said it was pretty good. My friends aren't always the most polite diners, but Daniel dealt with our every request, allowing us to add guests, box items and split the check six ways. At the end of our meal, after our checks were paid, he offered us a to-go coffee which one of my friends actually took him up on. Daniel brought out a warm coffee in a to-go cup, no charge! He was excited about the food, complementing my friend's menu selection, and he even cracked a few jokes with our otherwise annoying crew of YPs brunching. It was our first time at one of the "Another Broken Egg" cafés. Service was great, the hostess was prompt and attentive. However, the food was just okay, especially considering the price. My husband ordered Huevos Rancheros with a side of breakfast chorizo, and I ordered the Crab Benedict. The rancheros was somewhat dry because the eggs were hardboiled. My poached eggs were hard boiled as well and my hollandaise was just passable. I love the rich runny yolk in a Benedict so I was really disappointed. Coffee was not exceptional and the beignets tasted more like hush puppies (maybe I'm remembering and comparing the warm beignets from Cafe du Monde in New Orleans!) Depending on the time a day...there can be somewhat of a wait. I ordered the Salmon Avocado Toast & it was delicious our server (Hayden) was amazing. Initially, I ordered the Biscuit Beignets that hadn't come out prior to our order. Close to the end of the meal...I canceled but he brought them anyways & said it was no charge. I had no idea I wanted breakfast at 1pm but I have to say it was worth it. My intentions on finding something really good in the area was a complete success. Tried a Coffee Brew for the first time. Don't really understand why the salt and Carmel are on the outside of the jar but ok... The mimosa set the mood for the entire day. The food sent me to a whole new level.... Our first time here and we are very pleased we came. The call ahead waitlist is worth it for Saturday brunch. Our host Aaron - with whom I'd spoken to on the phone- made it a point to introduce himself to us after we were seated. Our server Hailee was wonderful! She was cheerful and very attentive. The food was delicious. Try the Biscuit Beignets- the are warm and served with a tasty orange marmalade. I had the Lobster and Shrimp Omelet with grits. The omelet was fresh and flavorful. The grits were average- a little disappointing. My companion had the Floridian Omelet which is made with cream cheese and crab. He loved every bite of it. I am sure we will return. This was my daughter's and I first and last time eating here. I must say, I was not impressed. However, When dining there for a late morning breakfast/early brunch, my husband and I were underwhelmed. The hostess that greeted us was lovely. She was pleasant and cheerful and we were seated right away. After that, things went downhill. When spending over $50 for breakfast for two, I expect the service to be great- or at least good. Our server seemed like he was the B team. While we did get our food after 25 min, he mumbled, made very minimal eye contact, and didn't check on us at all. Both of us ordered coffee, and I had to find the server twice to get a refill. My spouse and I ordered variations on eggs benedict. His had hash browns, mine contained crab cakes. While the food was okay, it was not stellar. My crab cakes were mushy, when I expected them to have a crispy crust. The mushy cakes made my English muffin mushy too. The coffee was acceptable. The ladies restroom was quite clean and fresh smelling. If you decide to give this cafe a try- do not order crab cakes, and be sure to give the restroom a visit! read more

I really like Broken Egg cafe for breakfast although generally there is a wait. You can take a wait because they text your cell when your table is ready. This Broken Egg is in North Hills Mall and you can take a walk or shop at Harris Teeter. We arrived at 12:00 noon (closes at 2:00) and there were lots of empty tables and the place looked like it had been busy. They have some gluten sensitive dishes like pancakes, as with most gluten free products they are on the heavy side. Coffee is good and served in nice pottery mugs in a variety of colors. My husband had a sausage and cheese omelette and he really likes that. The potatoes are in small squares and are nice and crispy - a favorite. I had gluten free pancakes with goat cheese and blueberries. It was too heavy. I thought they would be rolled but they just came flat. Broken Egg is a good place for breakfast and we'll return as it's a little different than most. Some dishes you'll like more than others. read more

My fiancé and I tried to make a reservation for the restaurant in North Hills. The Yelp app took us to the one in Morrisville for the waitlist. We drove all the way to North Hills with the assumption we had our reservation. Upon arrival, we were declined. The hostess pointed out we checked into the wrong restaurant. Everybody is human, and we all make mistakes. I just want to say, I am very disappointed that this restaurant could not accommodate TWO people because they made an honest mistake. I have tried to take people here several times and there was always an issue as to why we could not enjoy the breakfast here. I wanted to show my fiancé how great the food was. The service is great and the food is delicious. This is our second time coming and it has been good both times. We haven't had to wait to get a table but the food takes a little while to come out. I wouldn't call that an issue since everything we got was delicious. We have a lot of early runs to the Raleigh Airport so we like going here on the way home. The service once we were finally seated was very good. However being seated was a nightmare. We were a table of 5 and waited over 90 minutes while other parties of the same size came in after us and were seated before us. This, despite joining their weight list 20 minutes prior to arrival. Two young adult males that looked like brothers were the hosts and it was clear that they were not sure what was going on. I'm not quite sure how the prioritized who was seated, it clearly was managed incorrectly. There was barely anyone sitting outside, we were not offered that option, the weather was perfect today. Honestly really annoyed. I've been here multiple times and always loved it until today. Our server asked to drop off checks super soon after we got our food making us feel like he was rushing us. Then what really got me is I was still eating and had some food left on my plate and he took it from me. I didn't have a chance to say hey I'm still eating because he walked off so fast. Is it just me, or does this place feel like it is trapped in a different era? The North Hills location and pricey menu did not prepare me for what we would find inside. I felt like I was in a New Jersey diner that has been around since the beginning of time. We were out of time to abort our breakfast mission so we settled in with the menu. Our waitress was friendly enough, when we saw her. My husband made a meal of sides: waffle and bacon and I went for a southwestern scrambled egg dish with a side of fruit. We placed our order and then set in for quite a substantial wait. During said wait, we witnessed not one, but two different waitresses drop trays (one full of food, one full of dishes) and a busy, but chaotic take out scene. I couldn't believe how many people were coming to pick up take out orders! Unfortunately for these folks, many seemed to have issues with their orders upon arrival. Our food did eventually arrive. My husbands waffle was hot and fluffy and his bacon was crispy. My egg dish was an uninspiring platter of mush. I joined the wait list for a wait time between 19-31 minutes, checked in early for our party of 6, we waited 1 hour inside because we have 2 infants. Angel the hostess told us the table we could see would be ready shortly and apologized about the wait... then told us "another party" actually checked in before us. The "other party" was not even present, Angel stated that she had to give them 10 minutes to show up, and that even though they were not present it would be another 30 minute wait for my party. It appears that Angel gave our table away to her friends and told us it would be another 30 min wait, again we already waited an hour on a 19-31 minute reservation. The food was delicious! We waited about an hour on Sunday, September 24th. I was my daughters' Birthday and we were told how good the food was. When we first got seated, there was a misunderstanding with our waitress and another waitress in the same area. One brought us silverware and took our drink orders and the other one took over. She charged my account and my sister's account for the same order on top of my original order. I tried messaging the restaurant on Facebook several days ahead of time as I was coming in with a large group and wanted to know the protocol for a group. I never received an answer on Facebook. I called the restaurant twice 2 days ahead of time and left a message and was not able to get through nor was I ever called back. Finally today prior to our arrival I called twice again at opening and did have someone pick up. When I inquired about a larger group (15 at the time) I was told to join the waitlist about an hour prior to arrival and put the actual number of the group (you can only join with a group of 6, anything larger and you have to call the restaurant) and the arrival time in the notes section. I also let the host I spoke with know we would be there at 1015am 15 minutes prior to 10am I received a text message that we were being removed from the waitlist although I had followed the instructions I was given. I immediately rejoined the waitlist and we arrived at 10am. At that time we were told that they had already sat another party and it would be an additional 30 minutes. At this time half of our party decided to leave as our entire group was traveling after brunch. The hostess was dismissive when we arrived and stated they had just given our table away and when we let them know about the change in group. Our waiter, Omar, was great and the food was good although we did have a few mix-ups with our orders. I think this place is fine for a couple or small group, but due to our experience I would avoid this place for larger groups. Also be mindful of where you're sat. I went to Another Broken Egg Cafe is Cary for the first time a few months ago and absolutely loved it. I couldn't wait to go back. We chose the Raleigh location this time to avoid the Christmas shopping traffic in Cary. It was a mistake unfortunately. The service was awesome but my food wasn't. The gluten free pancake was doughy and grainy, NOTHING like the same pancake I had in Cary (fluffy, moist). The egg white omelette was completely different too despite being the same omelette. The flavor was missing, no fresh herbs as described, scant cheese (even though extra was ordered). I literally couldn't finish the one bite I took. This is the worst restaurant in the NH area. The smell as you walk in is enough to turn you around. None of the staff knows how the seating system works or what is going on. We were told to sit anywhere we like outside, there's no reservations for that area. None of the waiters knew to come by and all walked by without stopping many times. They asked our order before we had menus then proceeded to tell us we needed to move because that table was reserved (when we had been told there were no reservations for that area).
