I don't write reviews too often, but The Anthem earned this one. I just got back and wanted to share that from start to finish, this place delivered such a great dining experience. First off, the food- wow. It's not your standard fare. They take bold risks combining flavors and influences from different cultures, and somehow make it all make sense. You'll eat things you didn't even know could go together, and you'll love it. The vibe and atmosphere were a 10/10. The music is diverse, fun, not too loud, not too quiet, perfect for those who have a play list that's all over the place but loves it! The setup feels intentional and welcoming. It's the kind of place you want to post up at for a while. Drinks were delicious and Worth the hype. But the highlight and the real star was Katie at the bar. Honestly, even if everything else had been "meh," Katie would've made the whole night worth it. She's one of those rare people who's genuinely good at their job and also just... a good hang. Down-to-earth, funny, knowledgeable, patient with all our questions, and gave amazing recs (which were on point- and I'm Picky) Katie is the kind of bartender who makes you feel like a regular, even if it's your first time. She's a huge part of why we are already planning to come back and why I'm telling you to check this place out if you haven't yet. The Anthem is lucky to have her, and it shows. Shoutout to the shift manager too (didn't catch his name, but he was also great). Seems like they've built a team that knows how to create not just a meal, but a whole experience. 10/10 would recommend -- and definitely ask for Katie if you can. A mishap happened (both me and my hubby are handicapped). They made us leave because we were early in our reservation. First they stated we can sit in the front to wait. But manager told us we had to leave (due to a private party inside - on the other side where we couldn't even see). So we had to leave and return in 10 minutes. It was difficult to walk since we are handicapped - but that didn't matter. When we came back, waitress apologized to us what happened. We received free drinks and a wonderful appetizer. Manager came and apologized and treated us with care after the incident. Food is extremely good. The food was incredibly unique and the outdoor patio seating had a great ambiance! We got the Coastal Shrimp & Fries which was the best thing there. The dipping sauce for this was delicious. The Chicken & Waffle dish was really good too but the chicken was a little sweet for my taste. The Hapa Chicken Sandwich was also amazing, no complaints. My mai tai came out in a Chinese take out container. Very cute and tasty. Had the brisket wantons for app and they were very cream cheesy and not so much brisket but they were good. My aloha burger with the grilled pineapple was very good. I got the truffle sauce on the side and ditched that in favor of they had 2 other homemade dips... spicy something and a ranch.. Oli would ask for those. The sweet potato waffle fries were a little too skinny so seemed a little well done. Good taste though. read more

Such a fun restaurant to visit while in Austin! They have great drinks and a good variety of food. We made reservations online for a party of 7 a few weeks ahead of time. The restaurant didn't look too busy for a Saturday night though. The dishes were easily shareable items and we all enjoyed the food. Flavors were tasty and the ambiance was trendy and fun. In my opinion, there aren't many restaurants on Rainey St (aside from Emmer & Rye) that stand out, and unfortunately, Anthem is one of them. The menu features Tex-Asian pub food and fun, tiki-inspired drinks, but I'd call it more "Asian-inspired" than authentic Asian cuisine. Crowd favorites are dense in carbohydrates, saturated fat &/or fried. I'm not a fan of Texas cuisine per se, but I'm obsessed with Asian flavors... this one didn't hit the mark for me. If you're craving Tex-Asian, I'd recommend Loro instead. read more

The drinks here are amazing. We sampled four different cocktails and they were all delicious, with no disappointments. Unlike other places, they're not overloaded with crushed ice. Our server, Martin, was super friendly and attentive. After asking a few questions about our preferences, he was able to recommend the perfect options, and all his suggestions were spot on. The restaurant has a chill Hawaiian/Tiki-inspired vibe, with contemporary dance/techno music playing at a comfortable volume. The food was absolutely delicious and filling. The portions are generous, and they let you split dishes so you and a dining companion can sample a variety of items. First, I want to say the service was standard and they did their job. With that said... the food was mediocre at best. The establishment and the dishes are performative. It is doing too much without backing it up with flavor and faithfulness to the foods' origins. The worst part was they served Sake in a wine glass for $9. Who does that? Situated at the top of Rainey street, this is a stop you don't want to miss. There are several spaces to fit your preference, AND you can have a conversation in any of the spaces yet still enjoy the background music. Fun and peaceful. We chose the patio - swinging egg chairs, my husband could not resist ;). The food and drink were excellent: the bar, kitchen, and server did a fabulous job with communicating and customizing.... We were greeted by an amazing server. He was knowledgeable and fun. I'm sorry that I've forgotten his name :( When I asked about the drinks (they have a great selection), he asked what type of spirit I was in the mood for... Knowledgeable! I chose rum and he suggested a banana daiquiri (he assured me it was not laffy-taffy banana) and then asked if I like peanut butter, since I do he he suggested adding a peanut butter liqueur shot as a floater... Genius! We ordered the chips and guac-the ginger and yuzu were subtle additions and a delicious twist to this Texas staple. We like spice, but do not like burning hot, so we got the guac minus the jalapeños and asked for the pico on the side (it is marinated in pineapple juice, so I wanted to taste the flavor difference). Nice Tiki atmosphere. The Tropical fusion menu has a wide range of options including some Veggie/Vegan. We had a variety of dishes. The char char cauliflower and Coastal shrimp were big hits and the tastiest of the bunch. The Cure sampler appetizer plate was equally delicious. Anthem is the ultimate fusion restaurant, it's "Tex-Asian" food and I never thought of these two together, but Anthem makes it work well. And it looks like a tiki bar, lots of really cute decor and the server and bartenders are fun and friendly. The portions are perfect for sharing. Especially after looking over the menu, you'll want to try everything. The Bartender Heaven was cool and she gave us great recommendations. We enjoyed the Miso Mac Daddy- Pablo deep friend Mac and cheese ball. Not your typical Mac and cheese flavor, and the crunchy outside, goes well with the cheesy-ness inside. We also enjoyed the honey sriracha popcorn chicken, which were crispy and juicy. And the roasted cauliflower set everything off- tender and packed with flavor they almost tasted like meat. I was really excited to go this restaurant because the tiki, tropical vibe is so me. Not only was the interior adorable and beautiful, but the service and food was just as incredible ! My friends and I went in at 9:00pm and we knew they closed at 10:00. No one ever made us feel like we needed to rush or get out as soon as possible. They encouraged us to just enjoy and order whatever we wanted . Our server was awesome! He attentive and had great recommendations. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. The salmon poke (my personal favorite, amazing!!), cauliflower ( I don't even like vegetables but this was really good), Brisket Rangoon (better than crab Rangoon) and miso Mac daddy (there's nothing to not like about fried mac & cheese). Every single item and every single bite of was pure deliciousness and me and my girlfriends could not have been happier, choosing this as one of our last meals in Austin before we went home. The drinks were fun and tasty. And , if you get the Mai tai, it might come in the cutest glass with the perfect garnishes I have ever had . I don't think you could go wrong with any drink though, as my friends were tasty too. If you don't know , just ask your server , they don't steer you wrong. Would recommend Anthem to anyone looking for delicious food and a casual dining experience. One of my favorite items on the menu were the Yummy Fries, which were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and loaded with sauce and toppings (spicy aioli, truffle yuzu & miso aioli, sweet soy sauce, furikake, scallion, pickled ginger, sesame seeds, bonito, kizami nori). The honey sriracha fried chicken with Hong Kong waffle was also a memorable dish, perfectly seasoned and cooked to perfection. It did have a kick to it. The roasted cauliflower was as expected, with just the right amount of Thai green goodness dressing. The service was great as well. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. We booked a table for a group of 8 people for a friend's birthday. The reservation process was absolutely seamless and easy. We just called and reserved. The place is also kid and baby friendly. The cocktails are pretty great. We had a bunch of cocktails including Piña Old Fashioned. All of them were very good. Food was also good including the starters such as JFC Popcorn Chicken and Charbuff Cauliflower. The main problem was the service wait time - we came on a Monday at 6:30 pm, specifically because a couple of us had a baby who needed to be in bed by 8:30. Even after ordering all of our food by 7pm, we got our food no earlier than 8 pm, and couple of us just had time to pack up their food and leave. We just ate whatever we got in the end and also left. I really enjoyed eating at Anthem! My wife and I were staying down the street and one night took a walk, vibing with the night life that shows up on Rainey street. We saw Anthem and decided to give it a try, so glad we did! The food was great, almost as good as the conversation. We sat in the outside porch area and the weather was perfect with a slight breeze. The down side of sitting outside was of course the environment noise, which was expected. Then there was a honey bee that decided to bug us throughout the meal , pun intended. Pleasantly surprised since I found it on the spot. I had a work lunch here and was impressed with the excellent and expedited service. Located at the start of Rainey Street, the place is tiny, cozy and has really amazing decor and loud color that I love. Did not get to try any of the cocktails since I was there for lunch. Looks like they have a list of mocktails as well. I was very happy with everything that my group ordered but I was most impressed with the cauliflower, which did not make it to photos because that's how good it was. Ask for extra Green goddess dressing on the side and you will not be disappointed. I'm eager to go back and try two other dishes that I was considering today, as well as getting more of the cauliflower. This is certainly a place I will be frequenting when I am downtown. Anthem is an absolutely gorgeous restaurant with the friendliest staff. I love the unique type of food that you can only get here, and overall, it's just a wonderful dining experience. Our server was very helpful and gave us many good recommendations. When I'm back in town, I'll be sure to come here again My favorite was the Miso Mac Daddy. These mac & cheese balls were fried to perfection and the best toppings to go along with them. I liked the addition of the sweet soy sauce and spicy aioli to provide some more creaminess and extra flavors, but I think it could've gone without the ginger. I may have inadvertently found my new favorite FryDay hot spot. It turns out that almost all of the vegan options at Anthem are deep fried. Right off the bat, I'm in love with the vintage yet contemporary decor, with a cozy yet glamorous ambiance. Nestled into one of those plush booths, it's hard to resist the well curated cocktail program, which is where those crispy morsels come in handy. Hippie Thai Tofu is your best bet for protein, with a rich peanut sauce. Char-Buff Cauliflower might just be the best take on the concept I've had all year, beer battered and served with an incredibly umami Thai green goddess dressing that I could drink like soup. Fried Okra, offered as a side, is worth snacking on solo. This one definitely just counts as a serving of vegetables, right? It's all about balance. I can't imagine a better happy hour than that. read more

We ordered the char buff cauliflower, brisket rangoon, salmon poke, and jfc popcorn chicken. The menu overall is so unique and the collision of unique ingredients, flavors, and texture made it very enjoyable. I mean where else can you find a bbq brisket and cream cheese in a crispy wonton? That said, we didn't really like the salmon poke - was way too salty. The server happily took it off and got us something else. We were here during Thanksgiving week so we practically had the place to ourselves. Service was excellent. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend Anthem for those looking for a unique food option in downtown Austin. read more

A cool tiki bar in a really cool area of town. I had a fantastic burger with a gluten free bun - nice. The vibe was ok but it was really empty when we were there. It must get crowded later because I am sure that rent ain't cheap on that street of restaurant row. I would come back for that burger next time I am in town. A side note that will make me sound 110 years old..... the music was turned up so loud I could not hear the person next to me talk. I get setting the mood but I also do enjoy hearing the people I am with too. ?!?!! Perhaps because it was so empty that someone running the volume knob got to get a little crazy? There were a bunch of people (I think because there was a conference happening right around the corner) but we were seated pretty quickly (right next to this amazing print of Tom Selleck might I add!) and our waiter was great! We ordered a few small plates to share and it was plenty of food for two: - charred edamame, salted - this was a big portion, I personally love edamame so I loved it, just be prepared to wash the charcoal and salt off your hands at the end haha - Hawaiian shrimp ceviche - this was the only dish I really didn't like because it wasn't ceviche by any stretch of the imagination, it was essentially chunky shrimp dip... not terrible tasting, but not what I was hoping for and not great tasting either - JFC popcorn chicken, honey sriracha - big chunks of chicken in honey sriracha sauce with some sort of ranch dipping sauce, can't go wrong with that! - yummy fries - this was my favorite.. a La Joey from Friends... Sweet potato fries, good! Spicy aioli, good! Furikake, good! Truffle yuzu, even though I'm not totally sure what this sauce is, good! You get the picture For drinks my boyfriend got the frozen banana daiquiri and LOVED it to the point that we got one to go and then had to go back the next day just to get this drink.. I personally think banana flavored things are disgusting but if you're into it, apparently this is worth repeat trips! We got a fair bit of everything included mocktails like the Flower Child and cocktails including Mai tais in fun kitschy cups, appetizers including the cauliflower bites and the queso, and so many different entrees including the poke bowl, salmon, brisket rangoons, aloha burger, and more. The staff did an incredible job accommodating a few shellfish allergies and a vegetarian, and it was one of our most seamless dinners the entire the 8 of us were in town for our conference. read more
