Delicious chilaquiles! It's probably the most favorite I've ever had. The regular breakfast is pretty good too. The food takes a really long time, though they do warn you...I was getting pretty hangry waiting. Antigua Bread is the type of restaurant where you order at the counter, they give you a number to put up at your table and they bring the food to you. As I mentioned above, the food took a while but the drinks also took time to get to us...at least 20 minutes for the drinks. After the long wait, I'm glad I wasn't disappointed in the food. Actuall, I plan to head back asap to eat it again, I'll just make sure to get here before I'm super hungry. They have both indoor and outdoor seating here. The breakfast is latin inspired but they also have traditional American breakfast. read more

To truly appreciate this place one must have a clear understanding of what real Guatemalan food taste like. And they have delivered. Their prices are great compare to other similar restaurants, the food is very delicious and the presentation is very clean . Coffee is very good as well. Even though they are very busy the food comes out very quick. After a couple of visits I am now a regular customer . Keep up the good work read more

I wanted to find a breakfast spot close my bad, and this place popped up. It was a busy sunday morning. People were standing just to wait for tables. Service was super slow. I did not get my food until 40 minutes later. Some people got up and wanted their money back because it was too long for them. What did I order: Ultimate Antigua Breakfast- Steak, platanos, queso fresco, and black beans. The steak was nice and soft. I loved the tomato onion on top of the steak. Chilaquiles- Tortilla Chips topped with verde salsa. The salsa was kind of watered down. It did not taste like salsa. I got it with scrambled egg. I wish i got it was over easy eggs. I also got a iced cinnamon mocha latte. Not too sweet or bitter. I would come back again but not on a sunday morning. read more

This a review for lunchtime on Wednesday at 2:30pm. The place was fairly empty with maybe three other tables seated. This was our first time here. We ordered two sandwiches (steak torta and a tuna melt). We both asked for waters. The young man at the register was nice although he seemed under-enthused. He thanked us and said, "I'll be right out with your waters". He never brought the waters even though we were sitting just about 10 ft from him. The food came out 25 minutes after we ordered. It is a long wait for sandwiches and fries when the place is empty. The same young man who took our order brought us our food. He didn't mention the wait. I asked him again, "can we have two waters?" He didn't seem to register that we had already ordered water and instead acknowledged it as if it was the first time he had heard it. Guess what? He a still didn't bring any waters. Instead he sat in the corner on his phone. We finished our food which was good. Finally my wife went to the register and asked again for the water which we drank as our dessert. In summary: sandwiches are good. Wait time for food is a little long. Staff at register is not up to the job. read more

I highly recommend this local restaurant! Looking for a breakfast at 11:30 AM and the first restaurant I went to had a line out the door. So I googled a breakfast location nearby and came up with Antigua bread, bakery Café on Figueroa. I ordered the Spanish omelette which came with potatoes topped with avocado and toast. I also had fresh squeezed orange juice. Everything was absolutely delicious. It was cooked properly, most restaurant cooks don't know how to cook eggs. They are usually overcooked, spongy, or burned. I was impressed with the seasoning too. I will always check out the pastries if I am enjoying the service and feel respected and welcomed. This morning I was extremely impressed by the Polite customer service with no attitude, this led me to buy a blueberry muffin, and two slices of pastry cake which also tasted amazing. I will always do this to great businesses that treat me well, it's my way of saying thank you. The restaurant itself was clean had a nice design. Had plenty of room and tables and had really nice music playing the whole time. So thank you to everyone at Antigua bread, bakery Café. Keep up the good work. read more

My family and I tried this place. Sorry there are no pictures but we ate everything on the plates. I had steak fajitas, rice beans meat peppers all delicious. My daughter had chicken tenders and fries. My son had asada tacos and my husband enjoyed a BLT sandwich. I was impressed with the variety on the menu. Mango green teas was refreshing. Nice decor and clean. We will go back. read more

Came here to grab a quick bite before my yoga class and it was sooo good! I ordered the Tuna Sandwich that came with a side of fries and it did not disappoint. Portion was generous and I loveee the bread they use. Wasn't too hard but just chewy enough to give the sandwich some texture. It comes with mustard (not a fan of) but you really can't taste it! I believe this place offers WiFi so it would be a nice place to get some work done. Workers had masks on and they offer indoor/outdoor seating. Also the Spanish guitar playing in the background was a nice touch read more

Found this gem by accident today! Loved it! If I lived closer it would probably be my go to Sunday morning/brunch place. The service is awesome, very welcoming and attentive. The food was really good, like something your family makes for you. The atmosphere is great, very lively and vibrant Latinx culture and dishes. It felt very homey, which is refreshing. My friend and I ordered breakfast and coffee. Not only did they get her order wrong, they never brought me my coffee. When I went to ask about it, I was told I was not charged for one. Omg! So tasty! I got the Antigua chicken soup which is loaded with vegetables, cheese noodles and awesome broth and comes with a tasty chicken breast and half a plate of delicious rice on the side. Everything was perfectly seasoned. I ate it before remembering to take a picture. The coffee selection is great and everyone there is super nice. The food is made fresh and comes out extremely hot (a compliment) so leave some time and eat-in. I plan to try everything on the menu! read more

So overall this place was good, after we ordered we waited a bit of a long time for our food and I think they forgot about us. We saw other people get their food before ours so we went up to ask for an ETA then suddenly our food came out. While we were waiting we had some of their own dulce which was really good. And I honestly couldn't even be mad about the wait because when the food came out it was delicious. I ordered the chilaquiles with the mango green tea and it was all perfect. The only reason I gave 4 stars was because of the fact they forgot our food and when we got it, it wasn't hot. Other than that, I can see myself going back. read more

I really love this place. Great pastries, sandwiches, and coffee. Today it exceeded my expectations when a mistake was made, and my order was lost. (I have 15 years service experience - it happens!) Finally, I was able to try their breakfast! I've loved their version of the dirty soy chai latte (delicious by the way) and now I have to say I'll be coming back to try more of their menu. There is plenty is seating in the back and the front of the restaurant. I was able to find street parking but I believe there's a parking lot in the back. Service was fast and with a smile. The food came out hot and in reasonable time for a busy Sunday morning. I recommend this place. read more

Yeah very disappointed, it used to be on of my favorite place to go eat but the last 2 times were bad, the customer service ambas gone down, the prices have gone up and the portions are about half of what they used to serve, I understand we're living in a very bad situation with the prices that have gone up so bad, but come on if you raise the prices at least leave the portions of the food the same and on top of everything if you want to replace one thing of your plate they charge almost as double as they used to, come on all you're doing is scaring customers away, if I choose to go eat and pay your prices, the least that I expect is a good customer service and if you gonna charge extra for an item at least make it worth paying for it.. read more

Worst experience here ! Never imagined worst customer service from Paulina. accidentally placed an order for the El Sereno location instead of Highland Park and instead of offering me the option to re-order or go ahead and cancel the other order, she instead insisted on insuring I was wrong. going as far as calling the other location, while my order was being prepared, and told me as I was walking out with my new order that I did in Fact place the order for the other location etc. and to be more mindful. Meanwhile the seating outdoors is covered in dishes ...she could have taken that time to buss the dirty table. Keep in mind we were the the only customers for about 30-40 minutes. Never experienced anything like this with their other staff. read more

So I just recently had surgery and went to Antigua Bread to ask for a Broth only NO VEGGIES. I asked if they would adjust the price since it was just broth. The employees stated the owner said no, this is definitely NOT A BARIATRIC friendly restaurant. read more

There are few things I love more in the world than tortilla chips smothered in sauce and topped with eggs. MMM chilaquiles PARKING: Street or back lot SERVICE: It's fast casual style- order, find a table, eat. The guy at the counter was incredibly friendly and welcoming. He even opened up another register when the line was a bit long. FOOD: Chilaquiles- These are hands down one of the best I've had. It's like a no nonsense type of chilaquiles - nothing fancy, but everything was done SO right. Great sauce and a huge portion with eggs cooked perfectly. We go here a lot for takeout breakfast. The manager at the El Sereno store always has it on point. We ordered two breakfasts and a breakfast burrito at 10:51 am from the Fig store. We didn't get our food until 11:40am. The order was wrong (one breakfast and one burrito) and the plantains are dry and inedible. And the woman at the counter broke the first rule of service by pushing back when I told her how behind they were (they clearly didn't fire the order until we got to the store and paid.) Boo. Antigua is a wonderland. It's easy to miss but once you step inside it's always busy. After moving to la I got really into Guatemalan breakfast and this place knocks it outside of the park. When we asked for utensils they didn't have any forks so they gave us one spoon and one knife. We made it work. I watched as 'walk-ins' were given priority tables and when our party was complete, she was squeezing in a 3rd chair to a small cafe table right by the pass through door. No asking our preference. When she returned to seat us, I said "you're not putting us at that small table are you?" Her response - "yes...unless you want to sit inside." How was that not a conversation first? A professional would have said "I apologize, where would you prefer to sit? I see you made a reservation, are celebrating an event and we had some unexpected guests for seating options." I've lived in down the street from this place for 9 years and have probably eaten here over 100 times. It is the best breakfast place in Highland Park. The chilaquiles are great and the breakfast burritos are on point, but the thing you need to try here is the "Antigua Breakfast" plate. It's a delicious Guatemalan breakfast that comes with eggs, black beans, queso fresco, plantains w/crema, and tortillas. It's big so you'll either want to be hungry or ready to share with a friend. For many locals, this is the quintessential brunch spot. You're really hungry and you're ready for a bigger breakfast. If you're annoyed by what some people call the "hipster" scene, this place will be good for you. It's modern and welcoming to everyone, but it is no way pretentious. The owners Denis and Miguel are really friendly to customers and genuinely nice guys. Not all of their employees are the most amazing at hospitality because some of them are new to the job and a lot of them are working their way through college. This is locally owned restaurant employing people who group up in the neighborhood. So not only is the food good, it's a good place to support. Coffee tip: this isn't the most high-end place on Figueroa to get coffee, but if you're looking for a decent cup of coffee that won't break the pocket book, order a cafe au lait (not on the menu). A great addition to Highland Park. This neighborhood has predominantly hispanic bakeries, tacquerias, and 99 cent stores. It's really nice to see an independently owned coffee shop taking a chance in this type of neighborhood. It a nice place to stop in for a cup of joe or meet a friend if you are in the area. I love the rustic brick interior. And the dark wood furniture. Food: I have tried mainly their breakfast items. Their Huge breakfast burrito with meat, potatoes, egg, and cheese is a like 5.99. Also omelette plates with side of toast and potatoes are the about 6 bucks also. If you go to Corner Bakery or something you are looking at $10+ for a breakfast meal. Not only are the portions good but the food tastes good also. The bread and pastry section is very limiting. They have the very basic Mexican breads. Nothing in that section has caught my eye. Their lattes are great. Coffee has good bold flavor. I make it here for a soy latte almost every morning. I'm kinda glad that Starbucks didn't take the risk in opening here .. The only thing that bothers me a little is that I come here so often and never get acknowledged by the staff. It's like they act like they never seen me before. The coffee shop is o.k. but the if the owners are the same ones who ALSO have the Antigua Breads in Cypress park - they are trying to get a clear message across - that message being that they believe ' illegal ' immigration is O.K. too. They blatantly display a large poster in the Cypress Park shop which says (( Stop the Raids, we are people too)). Sorry but this shop will never get another dime of my money - illegal immigrants are already living off of my taxes, illegal immigrants are overcrowding our schools and lowering the level of public education while costing taxpayers more money. Illegal immigrants are lowering the average wage for 'legal' physical laborers and construction workers. Illegal immigrants are getting free lunches in school off of my taxes and free health care in emergency rooms across the country while I must pay. Any business that thinks all of this is acceptable, especially one which outwardly supports illegal immigration will never get another dime of my business. Our area needs a good coffee shop but I hope this one goes out of business and one moves in which is 'pro-LEGAL citizen' and ANTI-live off the system and break the rules. read more

I had a great experience at Antigua Bread in Highland Park. From the moment I walked in, the place had a clean, relaxed vibe. The staff was welcoming and friendly. The music playing in the background set the mood into a chill, laid-back feel that added to the overall atmosphere. It made the space feel like somewhere you could hang out and enjoy your morning without any rush. I ordered the Antigua Breakfast and an iced raspberry vanilla latte. The latte was really good--smooth, not too sweet, and the raspberry-vanilla is a very delicious combo. The Antigua Breakfast was solid too--fresh, well-balanced, and satisfying without feeling heavy. This place's signage makes it seem as though it's a bakery first and a restaurant and coffee shop second and that fills the seats as it's always busy when I've visited but IMHO it should advertise itself as a restaurant/coffee shop first and a bakery second because GOOD LAWD their food and coffee are excellent! I've only been there for breakfast and they offer both Mexican dishes and good 'ole American breakfast and both are very good. The chilaquiles come in your choice of green and red sauces and all of their plates are decently sized for the price. Their coffees are also excellent and for me the best tasting coffees in the area bar none. The decor is nice and there is a patio in front for you outdoorsy types. It was an odd experience which I am going to share with you. I don't want to call this place a bakery, even though it may have a small standard panaderia case and has bread in its name. I've never bought a particularly bread-y item from this place. The first time I went I got a salad, which was decent; it had grilled chicken that was very well seasoned and had a nice char. The avocado was ripe and plentiful. However there wasn't much character to the salad. The next time I got the Antigua burger and that definitely had character. I met up with my friend at this place for Brunch today and was pleasantly surprised. They serve a strong cup of joe here. They have a combination of American and Latin Breakfasts, My friend had the chilequiles with eggs sunny side up. And I had the eggs ranchero. I actually changed to a lunch item chicken pesto and they had no problem switching for me. I was a lil embarrassed but they were happy to do so. I come here everyday for my morning coffee and bread, well me and my friend always do, the coffee is ALWAYS fresh and there just something about it that is so amazingly savoury. They have some "conchas" , yeah you can find in any bakery but are made somehow different from traditional conchas they're just so delightful. read more

I go to school down about 4 blocks down from this place and I walk there every morning before class. They opened a new coffee shop on the same street that would cut my morning walk in half. But thus place is worth the extra 2 blocks. Good food good coffee nice people. read more

I understand that everyone has difficult days, and working in the restaurant industry isn't easy. But hospitality is a huge part of the dining experience. A simple smile, eye contact, a "hello," or making customers feel welcome goes a long way. The food deserves praise, but the service does not match the quality of what's coming out of the kitchen. Management may want to spend some time retraining and refocusing staff on customer service and hospitality. Customers should feel appreciated, not like they're a burden. I truly want to see this place succeed because Highland Park needs good local businesses, and the food is excellent. But after several visits with the same experience, I felt it was worth sharing honest feedback. Great food brings people in; great service keeps them coming back. I hope management takes this as constructive criticism and works to create a more welcoming experience for everyone who walks through the door.
