I tried a combo dish with 2 different proteins (beep and fried pork (Katu) on the rice and another dish with shrimp tempura on the rice. They are delicious and perfect portions. The price was also decent. Not too expensive. I recommend that anyone check this place out if they are in Korean Town. I will return. The service was great, too. The environment is very good, the decoration is Japanese style, and the location is spacious. The main dish is hot pot, the portion is very large, four people eat two pots and need to take away, the price-performance ratio is good. At dinner time, many Koreans ordered a pot per table and drank, which was a little noisy. The beef pot soup base feels a bit like Sukiyaki pot. I don't know why it's a bit bitter at the first bite, but it will become sweeter as it cooks, but it's not bad with beef slices and vegetables. Octopus and pig viscera pot, a very Korean combination, the octopus is served alive, and the waiter helps to cut it, which is quite fun. One of my favorite late night spots in K-town to sway away from the crowd. Located on the second floor, the restaurant is dimly lit with neon lights and humorous wall decor. The menu is quite vast ranging from small bites/appetizers, entrees, to bigger plates perfect for sharing among friends! My server was very understanding and patient as I was being really indecisive on what to order... Bonus points for solo dining too!!! Tuna bite (10/10) MUST GET. First off, the host (Jerry) and the waitress (Jasmine) are super sweet and provide the best service! Anytime is a wonderful spot for drinks and Korean fusion food. I got to try so many different dishes here and everything was of high quality, unique, and yummy. I loved the ramyum and tteokbokki which were both not too spicy and had lots of flavor from the soup. The sweet and spicy chicken was so tender and juicy. The steamed egg was also really cool to cook. They bring over the raw egg and you pour it into a boiling broth after 6 minutes! It also tasted amazing. The japchae noodles were also thicker than most other places, but I actually loved that. It had great texture and lots of veggies. Don't sleep on the desserts. The ice cream was superb! It was very creamy and topped with fried wheat snacks. As for the drinks, all 3 of their slushies are fruity and sweet. Their cupbops are great for on the go workers nearby! I saw their sign while walking in Koreatown and decided to come here to grab some lunch. The sign is a bit misleading as it only says "8.99" and then displays their various cupbop options but each dish is actually a different price. I think they could benefit from adding the words "starting from" to 8.99 so that customers have a better sense of what to expect to pay. I got the combo where you pick your cupbop and for an additional $5.50 you get a small cup of Budae Jigae which is a soup. It was great but my only wish was that it had some protein on it. First things first, if you can't find this place, go inside the building marked with the "Wonjo" marquee; it's up two flights of stairs on the third floor. Though it seems like you should probably get a reservation, we walked in at 9pm on a Friday and got seated immediately. Service is fine; they were attentive and while not overly friendly, refilled our water and got our food to us quickly. Quite frankly, I was a little disappointed with this place for how many positive reviews/ratings it has. It's not that it's bad, but rather, the food doesn't have much flavor. The popcorn chicken tasted like watered down honey garlic chicken bites from Popeyes. The Kimchi Cream Ramyun's cream sauce essentially overpowered the entire dish, including the kimchi (which eaten by itself didn't have any umami or sweet/spicy tones to it). It tasted almost like just poured Alfredo sauce over buldak noodles. The truffle jjajang ramyun (black bean sauce) was okay, but I couldn't taste the truffle. Everything just seemed muted or diluted in taste, and I personally felt like I could just cook most things on the menu at home better and for a third of the price. I think I'd have given it 4 stars if it weren't for the fact that this restaurant's on the pricier side. Cheapest menu items go for about $16-18, while the more expensive dishes, such as hot pot soups, go for $25-40. I'd want to visit for lunch, when the dishes are half price, since the food is likely at least more palatable for your wallet rather than for your stomach. This is a solid spot for lunch that won't break the bank. Came here with friends and we sat ourselves at a table. I got the bulgogi rice bowl and army stew combo. The army stew had tofu, smoked sausage and ham(?). It was also very spicy so I couldn't really drink the soup. Good place to grab some small dishes with a large group of people for a late night snack/meal! We went on a Wednesday night so it was quite empty fortunately. Food came out really quickly and service was attentive. They even gave us tteokbokki on the house, which was such a nice surprise! The group was pretty hungry so didn't get a chance to snag some pictures, but here's what we ordered: - Soy garlic popcorn chicken: Solid plate of chicken. Chicken wasn't as crispy as I would've liked and the sauce was on the sweeter side for my liking but the table probably enjoyed this dish the most. - Fried pork kalbi: This was unfortunately the most disappointing dish of the evening. It comes with a side of mayo dipping sauce (which just tastes like straight mayo) and the pork-to-bater ratio was way off. I could barely taste the meat and it just felt like I was eating fried batter. I'd skip on this dish. - Truffle fries: Solid plate of fries to share for the table. - Shrimp chives pancake: This dish surprised me the most. I'm not usually a fan of pancakes since the batter can be a little overwhelming at times and sometimes has a mushy texture. This was primarily chives with some batter to hold it all in and the peppers added lots of flavor. Came here on a Sunday around noon and the restaurant was pretty empty with a lot of available seats! They were serving their lunch special menu which is from 11am - 3pm. The lunch special has a variety of different "cupbop" which is basically a rice bowl with different toppings! I ordered the fried shrimp cupbop which was around $12. For the lunch specials you order up at the counter and pay first and then take a seat while you wait for your food. For the fried shrimp cupbop the shrimp tasted strongly of coconut so if you're not a fan of coconut I would say to order another option. I was a bit surprised as the menu item did not specify that it was coconut shrimp. The serving size is a bit on the smaller size but because I wasn't too hungry I felt it was enough for me. All around good spot, came here on a weekday night at 6:30pm with a group of 6. I'd made reservations via Yelp but the restaurant said they didn't have them on record (3rd time this has happened @Yelp!) however there was room so we were seated right away. Food was tasty! We arrived in time for happy hour for their buy 2 get 1 specials. The grilled mayo mackerel was a tasty starter, it's a small but entire fish so you'll need a little chopsticks magic to share, the truffle fries were on point for texture--crisp on the outside though frankly I didn't taste much truffle in the two orders we got, though the white (ranch?) sauce was creamy and paired well. The popcorn tofu was a surprise, slightly less crisp of an exterior compared to the popcorn chicken but similar outer shell, kinda that sweet/sour/salty korean fried chicken kinda glaze, with tender tofu chunks inside. The popcorn chicken was also indulgent in a similar manner, served with small pieces of rice cake in the same sauce--def not health food though pretty yum! The budae Jungol was a standout, and at $32.99 was a good value. This came with dumplings, fish cake, ramen, egg, rice cake, pieces of hotdog and green veggies. Served over a flame this bubbling concoction was terrific to share amongst our group. My friends got a few drinks and enjoyed. This place doesn't really stand out in terms of decor except to give a dim, trendy vibe, and as another reviewer mentioned there are some "shady stairs" leading up to this restaurant--they are certainly narrow and old, and not the cleanest carpet I've seen, though that's more on the building maintenance than this particular restaurant. For the two dishes my party got, it amounted to $50 and the portions were small, with the quality being decent. I ordered all the soju cocktails, it was nice they have a buy 3 get 1 free promo. The drinks were decent where the mixer hid the alc, but you could still slightly taste it. Best one was the lychee. Flavor was more on the sweet side, but it didn't really feel like popcorn chicken - more like saucy boneless chicken. The fried rice balls added good consistently for the dish but I just wish there was more portion of the chicken compared to the rice balls; overall probably only about 9 pieces of chicken. I also ordered the grilled squid (~$21.00) but this dish took over 30 minutes to come out after everything else. One of the waiters was pretty attentive and checked in on us consistently, but when asked about the last dish, he just said it would be coming soon when it didn't (not his fault though). We've come here several times, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The space is decently big enough as we frequently come in party sizes of 8 or 10. The food is Korean fusion. They do have pure Korean food and some fusion dishes. We love starting with the truffle fries! Often we will order the pork belly dishes (they are pre-cooked) that come with the food warmers.
