Ended up ordering the popcorn chicken and a bottle of soju off the happy hour menu and pork belly bbq and the lychee soju cocktail on the regular menu. Came here for a couple drinks and a few appetizers. Upon entering the restaurant, I was told I'd have to make a reservation which is understandable. I made a reservation online for an opening 45 minutes later. I walked around ktown and came back about 15 minutes later because I got bored and was instantly seated with many tables open, which made me think making the reservation was kinda pointless. I ordered all the soju cocktails, it was nice they have a buy 3 get 1 free promo. The drinks were decent where the mixer hid the alc, but you could still slightly taste it. Best one was the lychee. I ordered the sweet and spicy popcorn chicken ($~21.00) and it was honestly just okay. Flavor was more on the sweet side, but it didn't really feel like popcorn chicken - more like saucy boneless chicken. The fried rice balls added good consistently for the dish but I just wish there was more portion of the chicken compared to the rice balls; overall probably only about 9 pieces of chicken. I also ordered the grilled squid (~$21.00) but this dish took over 30 minutes to come out after everything else. One of the waiters was pretty attentive and checked in on us consistently, but when asked about the last dish, he just said it would be coming soon when it didn't (not his fault though). I will say the squid was good, there was a decent charcoal char taste and the sauce was not too overpowering. This place was a bit difficult to find, but it is so worth it. The food is delicious and in small portions that make you want to order seconds. Both my friend and I ordered the lychee cocktail. He wanted vodka in his, which was a $3 extra charge. When the waiter came over with our order, he said "this one has no alcohol." We thought he meant as in there is no vodka in mine, but it was apparently made virgin. It definitely did not taste like there was any soju in it at all, but it was still delicious. read more

We've come here several times, and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. The space is decently big enough as we frequently come in party sizes of 8 or 10. The food is Korean fusion. They do have pure Korean food and some fusion dishes. We love starting with the truffle fries! Often we will order the pork belly dishes (they are pre-cooked) that come with the food warmers. I especially like their cocktail drinks! There's the Makgeolli slushy that comes as 1L and is delicious! I was expecting much more kimchi flavor in the kimchi okonomiyaki. All I tasted was the sauce which of course isn't a bad flavor. The popcorn tofu and chicken were both absolutely fantastic. The lemon cream shrimp dish was also deliciously sour and savory at the same time. Suprisingly tasty fusiony Korean place in NYC KTown. It's one of those classic Korean places you find throughout the states in areas that have a large Korean diaspora. Simple interior, KPOP up on the monitors, lots of classic Korean dishes on the menu, and mostly Korean patrons. The other typical quality - inexpensive - is not true here as most things are in the 20-25 USD range and the Happy Hour is basically some popcorn-esque stuff. But the food is actually quite good which is probably why this place rates so highly. I went twice and got a couple of the more fusion dishes. The Cheesy Beef Bugolgi Tteokbokki was some perfect delicious drunk food and omitted any fish cake business in the mix - loved it. First impression of the restaurant was not so great. Despite the exterior not being the safest, the inside of the restaurant feels very welcoming and has views of the bustling Ktown. Anytime Kitchen is more of a casual Korean restaurant that offers comfort dishes. Popcorn Chicken - A very delicious appetizer. The chicken was crispy and coated with sweetened gochujang sauce. Bulgogi Dupbop - It came with an abundance of beef, glass noodles, mushrooms and peppers. My favorite was the dough balls which were chewy and soaked up the broth. The broth was more on the sweet side. The portion was good for two people. Somaek - This is a Korean drink with beer and soju. I only tasted the beer. The waitress thought I said tteokbokki soup instead of bulgogi. At first, we didn't realize the mistake so we tried the tteokbokki and it was so flavorful and spicy. The waitress was very friendly and replaced the teokbokki with the bulgogi. However, I saw her throw out the whole pot which was such a waste. Anytime is one of my favorite spots in Ktown, whether it's for a quick soju, or a full meal. I've been here a few times over the years, and during my most recent visit I was very happy to see how they've expanded the menu. Their service has also improved drastically! I remember going once and it was an actual challenge to get helped outside of ordering and the check. This time, there was plenty of staff ready to help, refill, explain the menu, order more food. Everything! It was pretty packed, and has been the last few times I went. Lots of tables filled with friends and dates with music playing at the perfect volume for having fun at your meal. My main favorite is the popcorn chicken, but we tried some jjampong that we saw at a table nearby (it smelled incredible), and it was insanely good. There was seafood and kimchi with cute little rice cakes and ramen noodles. If you read this and go and figure out what I'm talking about: get it!! My friend and I chose this place at random to try something new. We wanted something Korean but with a bit of an American touch. And here comes Anytime Kitchen to the rescue, with promises of distinct Ko-American cuisine paired with premium Soju cocktails. Is this a place worthy of visiting anytime? In short, yes. The menu is extensive enough where anyone should be able to find something to their liking. The bar offerings share this same detail, having a large amount of Korean alcoholic beverages while also keeping a decent amount of American choices close by. Personally, I try to stay away from American themed food when I'm visiting a restaurant of a different culture, and as such we started with the Hallasan 21 Soju. The waitress warned us that it was a bit stronger than your average Soju, and she was correct. It was still really smooth and enjoyable however. With that, we also ordered the Hot Wings and the Bulgogi Fries. I know, I said I like to stay away from American themed dishes, but my friend was in favor of these choices. I'm glad we got them, as they were both great. I think the Bulgogi Fries were better than the wings overall. There just seemed to be something missing from the wings. The fries were very tasty however. For entrees, I got the Unagi Teriyaki (Eel BBQ) and my friend got the Veggie Japchae. The Unagi came in a bowl with a miniature fire underneath which I thought was really cool. It was cooked to perfection and full of very balanced flavors. I didn't have a speck of food left on my plate. My friend wasn't such a big fan of the Veggie Japchae and ended up not finishing it. I ended up eating it and was confused as to why she didn't eat it. I thought it was wonderful. Presentation was excellent as well, just as it was for the Unagi. The service here was fantastic. Even while a bit busy, we never had to wait for our waitress when we needed anything. She was very attentive and quick, while never being pushy with any recommendations. The restaurant itself was very clean and the ambiance was perfectly intimate, but not so much where you couldn't gather your friends for a celebration. Overall I think besides the Hot Wings and my friend not liking the Veggie Japchae, this place was absolutely fantastic. It's those two minor points that kept me from making this a 5 star review. Was looking forward to a great night of food and drinks with friends but expected a lot more than I received. It's mostly the service needs work on here. The beers, fresh, cold and crisp. No complaints here. For food, we ordered: Popcorn chicken (4.5/5): crispy, sweet and paired really well with the beers. I would have liked for it to be a little spicier. Truffle salt Edamame (3/5): the salt sprinkled on top was very scantly so a couple of pieces were just plain edamame which wasn't what the menu promised. Spicy Pork Tteokbokki (4/5): great flavors. Loved the veggies in there, the pork and the tteokbokki but there were a lot more veggies than the tteokbokki itself. Kimchi Cream Ramyun (2.5/5): flavor was a little one dimensional. Would've liked more depth to this item and more spice to the kimchi itself. The servers were great but the waiters/hosts were quite rude. First, the table they gave us was very shaky so when confronted, they just jammed it into the wall and sternly said not to move it. I was essentially pinned to the wall for the rest of the meal. Second, when I asked if they could switch us to another table, they said all the tables in there were reserved but did nothing to cooperate with us throughout the 2 hours we were there, even though we saw tables clearing up during that time. Third, they brought out the wrong order and when corrected they just took it away and didn't express any consideration yet again. If it wasn't for my composure and will to enjoy with friends and not spoil their time, I would've walked out since I didn't feel respected when there. read more

It's been a while since I paid this place a visit. Originally, I thought these guys were it. The food was delicious and inventive, and I gave them an outstanding review. These days the food is still yummy, but I thought it has lost some of its greatness. Service is very fast, though. Salmon carpaccio: ok, but I wouldn't order it again. Even the most average Japanese sushi spot has better salmon, so I'd leave this out. Popcorn chicken: a huge portion of crunchy fried chicken that stays warm for a while in that little cocoon. This is still a must order. Pork belly teriyaki: we liked this. The sauce was rich and smooth, and although the pork belly could have been more tender, it was good nonetheless. Bassam pork belly: we were a little disappointed of this. The meat was very bland and lacked real flavor. True... it came with a side sauce, but it wasn't enough to make this dish memorable. I wouldn't order it again. Overall, the check was over $100 and we thought we got there a little too fast. What we ordered was fine, but we weren't wowed by any of the dishes we ordered. I'm not sure I'd return any time soon. One note about their menu: it's only available through your phone - which is perfectly ok - but is beyond uncomfortable to read it, because you are forced to scroll down every individual item of the menu... it takes forever to see the whole thing and makes it complicated to compare items. We also tried a variety of soju flavors, my favorite one was the peach. My only complaint about this place was the waiting area. We had a reservation and we weren't seated on time but we waited so long in the stair case that felt like a hazard. It was a small narrow space with people going in and out of the karaoke bar on the 4th floor. Because of our delayed seating the waiter was nice and gave us 2 free drinks. Jamie W. and I took a surprising late afternoon flight to JFK which had us arriving at our hotel past 10PM. Normally this was not a big deal for a 24-hour town like NYC where good late-night eats in Midtown could be found without much forethought. However, ever since the pandemic, some of my 24-hour favorites cut down their hours for economic reasons like L'Express on Park closes at 11PM now. Sarge's Deli on 3rd refused to seat us at 10:25 despite closing at 11 as well. Sheesh. Well, I knew one neighborhood that would be operating in the midnight hour - Koreatown. Sure enough, i rifled through the Yelp app and found a place with the perfect name, and best of all, they close at 1AM. Unsurprisingly it turned out to be one of those Gen Z-saturated third floor walks-up where the stairs were steep and creaky. We went to a similar set-up also in K-Town just a year ago,, The Maze right across 32nd Street (review: https://bit.ly/3EOcTZ4), but we were a bit underwhelmed as it was more a bar than a restaurant. This place was more focused on small plates, and we were all the better for it. Given the late hour, we decided to share three relatively healthy plates. The first was the bucolically named $9.95 Soybean's Garden. It consisted of triangle wedges of steamed tofu sprinkled with aonori (dried seaweed flakes)!and drizzled with a dill dressing and their own soy sauce (photo: https://bit.ly/3Smr6Qh). Light and nicely flavorful. Next came the intriguing $18.95 Truffle Jjajang Ramyun, a hearty mix of bulgogi, pork, cauliflower, onions, scallions, cabbage, micro greens, black bean paste, and Korean-style ramen noodles (photo: https://bit.ly/3S6oFB5). By default, it was our entree, and we ate every bite of it.
