I'm really surprised there is such a nice sushi restaurant in East Meadow! The restaurant looks pretty new, clean, and has a really nice theme/decor going on. I only ordered a roll and sushi but they were great! Fresh and nicely plated. The biggest downfall of this place is the customer service. The couple next to me ordered takeout before I ordered and got their food as I was paying to leave! Also, I ordered a roll that I didn't particularly enjoy and asked to exchange it for sushi (which works out in their favor because I wanted more than what the roll was worth) and they refused! I was so confused. Who wouldn't want to make more money?! Oh well, their loss. They're a little rushy when it comes to paying too. Other than that it's a great little spot and definitely worth a try! Ordered delivery. Food was fast and at the right temp. The portions are american sized. I purchased the Carpaccio, miso soup and shrimp fried rice. The miso was fine, hard to go wrong there. The Carpaccio was quiet tasty but I do suggest and hope for delivery orders that the sauce goes on the side. It made the dish soggy. The shrimp fried rice was very disappointing. Dry and no flavor. It was cooked with red bell pepper which was bizzarre. Overall the service is great. Maybe it was just the chef tonight but food was mediocre. I would give it a second chance. read more

Ordered in a few times and have dined in only once so far and I am very impressed. Love the sushi and the variety of specialty rolls (maybe even too much of a variety). They also do a very nice job with the presentation. I've tried a few of the hot dishes from my dad (he doesn't like sushi) and they are also very tasty. The decor is modern/ sheek-very different from what east meadow has to offer. But it's a nice addition to the town and I am definitely looking forward to trying more dishes from the menu! read more

I will admit, were regulars. Its local and the sushi is good. I've been to this restaurant about 10 times. I've only had one bad experience- it was a very busy evening and the food took a little while to get out (close to a half hr). Otherwise usually its about 10- 15 mins to get your food. Their food is fairly priced and personally i love their sushi. I usually get the spicy rock shrimp as an appetizer and the pink dragon roll. The atmosphere and decor is nice and modern. My only critique is that the music they play does not fit the atmosphere. The place has neon lights and a clubby kind of feel to it, but the music is like 90s all the time. It just doesn't fit. I don't want to give a bad review given the current covid situation but when I ordered some food here a few weeks ago, the spring rolls were soaked in oil, the tom yum soup was so salty and had like 2 shrimps in there and The fried rice had like 4 pieces of beef. I'm not sure if it is because the restaurant is under new management but the quality of food definitely went down. I have to say the sushi is really consistent. I prefer sashimi mainly and then add some other types of rolls. So the freshness and quality of the fish is extremely important. And the succeed. My offices' go to place for sushi lunch. Food is always great! Sometimes service isn't 100% but overall I would recommend.

My family and I frequent this place often....the food is great...the decor is very nice and the service is mediocre....this is why I gave them 4 stars. Some of the waitstaff need extra training regarding their knowledge of the menu....and they are not consistent I came for lunch and fried rice was offered as one of the sides...., I came another time and it was not just white or brown rice. The waitress was a little rude but I disregarded her and enjoyed my meal. Overall the restaurant is a very nice place for lunch and dinner. Will recommend it to my family and friends. read more

This is one of those times where I wish a 0-star review was possible. I ordered an order for pick up earlier today, @ 629pm. After I placed the order, the online ordering system notified me that my order would be ready in 20 minutes, which would make it ready by 649. However, the email confirmation I received showed a pick-up time of 7pm. No biggie, what's 11 minutes right? I arrived at the restaurant, paid for my order, then was told to have a seat by the woman who ran my card. I waited. And waited. And waited some more. At 707pm, I debated asking the woman who ran my card (I'm just going to refer to her as the hostess, to make it easier) how much longer it would be. Unfortunately, she was nowhere in sight. I should also note that there were at least 3 customers who had come and gone with their to-go order by this time, and that the restaurant was empty, save for a four-top in the front, and a booth in the back. At 715, I went up to the hostess area to ask for my order; again, the hostess was nowhere to be found, but the server was kind enough to help me. She went in the back for a minute or two, then came back and asked me what I ordered (2 oyster tempura rolls, no tobiko). She left, and eventually located the hostess. I saw them speak to one another, then the hostess came up to me and told me it would be another 3 minutes (keep in mind that I placed the order online almost an hour ago). I told her that I needed to be somewhere, to which she sort of blew me off. My boyfriend came in looking for me around 719, asking if I was ok, since I had been in there a while. I explained to him what was going on. He looked around the restaurant, and wondered what the hold up was since it WAS ALMOST EMPTY, when the hostess interrupted and said that the chef had added tobiko to the rolls. We asked her how much longer it would be, and of course, what did she say? You guessed it, "3 minutes". I looked at her, and stated that she's adding 3 more minutes to the 3 minutes she said a few minutes before that. No answer. Seriously, how long does it take to fry oysters and make them into a roll? The order came out a few minutes later. She apologized, but I couldn't bring myself to say anything else. We left there at 725pm. You have to understand that I have ordered oyster tempura rolls from them in the past, and have always found them to be fresh. I wish I could say that this time. The oysters didn't smell right, but I tried a piece anyway. Something was off. So, silly me went ahead and tried another. Something was definitely not right. They were very fishy and mushy, not the same quality as before. I wound up throwing the rest out and eating Chinese from another restaurant. I'm not hard up, but I couldn't bring myself to pay for crappy food, especially when there's a question of possibly getting ill the next day, more so when it's seafood. So I called the restaurant. When the hostess picked up, I explained to her what happened. Get this - she asked me to bring back the food. I kinda get it since you can't really trust people, but really? I told her that I had thrown it out, and if she wants to send someone to come get it, I would be more than happy to scoop it out of the garbage. She put me on hold, so my boyfriend, listening to the exchange and getting more frustrated by the second, got on the phone. When she finally came back, she told him that she would issue us a credit. He told her we are NEVER coming back to the restaurant, and asked her to just issue the refund. She kept giving him a hard time, until finally hanging up on him. I called back and told her that she just hung up on my boyfriend. She then asked me for my number, and told me that he manager would call me back. When I asked her when, she said about 20 minutes. I told her no, I wasn't waiting again, so she eventually put the manager (who turned out to be the owner) on the phone. Voices were raised, and he condescendingly said, "It's $18, not $18,000!". Wow. So I told him it's $18 too much for his crap food, and I didn't want to get food poisoning. Click. Another hang up. Of course, I had to call back. Voices were raised again, and he repeated the condescending comment from earlier, to which I asked, "If it's just $18, why are you fighting me on it?". Silence. After much arguing, he asked me if I wanted to come back and he would give me cash. Uh no. I paid with a card, I shouldn't have to be inconvenienced again to get a refund. Long story short, he said that he canceled the transaction. I called my bank immediately after hanging up to dispute the transaction in case the owner wasn't being truthful. It's a shame because I enjoyed ordering from Anzai before; the food was good. Obviously, after the drama from today, I will never come back. They lost a customer for $18, not $18,000. I should've known there was something wrong with this place when it had a poster up advertising a 20% discount off of the final bill. But the Yelp rating for this restaurant had me fooled. Right off the bat, we were given attitude when we asked that a high chair be substituted for a booster seat; and that seemed to have set the tone for the rest of our time there. We ordered 4 dishes, and to be fair, 3 of those dishes tasted pretty good. For the 4th dish, my cousin had asked that it he customized slightly, knowing full well that it would cost more, and he was fully willing to cover the cost for it. At first, they insisted that it would cost extra, and he insisted that he was willing to pay for it. When they came out with his food, it was a tray of rice. No lie, just a tray of brown rice. He left it untouched, called over the waitress and said he didn't touch the food, and since it wasn't what he ordered, he wasn't willing to pay for it. We asked for the manager to notify him about the issue. You would think that a manager would be courteous. But no, this manager started raising his voice at us about how it costs him too much to make such an adjustment, and how we should keep this in mind for the next time we come here - as if we would come back here after what we just experienced. He continues to speak/yell loudly as he wakes away with the plate of food. No apologies, no offer to provide a replacement dish, nothing. It's as if this guy knew nothing about running a customer oriented business, and yet here he was. The final bill came with the dish being deducted, and they gave us a 15% discount because it was lunch - maybe this part of the fine print on the poster in the front. Who knows? Long story short, avoid this place like the plague. I'd rather eat at a McDonald's at a rest stop in the middle of third world country than come back to this hellhole. We went there a few weeks ago for my wife's birthday, and while the service was just a bit slow, the quality of the sushi and the food overall was excellent. Exactly what sushi should taste like, not like the stale tasting sushi that I have had in other restaurants. I would go again. read more

My husband I went to Anzai for our anniversary dinner this year. We love sushi and were excited to see this place open up recently and wanted to give it a try. When we first walked in we were immediately impressed by the decor. Very clean, classy and modern. We ordered 5 rolls, the california roll, the calamari roll, the tuna avocado roll, the avocado cucumber roll and the philadelphia roll. We were instantly blown away by how each roll was better and better than the one before it. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The service here was impeccable as well. Our waiter was very polite and considerate, as well as helpful. The employees were genuinely glad to see that we had thoroughly enjoyed our experience there. We can't wait to go back! read more

Decided to go out for food with some friends tonight . It was a Saturday and Everywhere was packed and had a 30-45 minute wait . We decided to give Anzai a chance . The ambience very quiet and calm . There were not many people in restaurant . The server was very attentive . We ordered drinks which were ok. The monitor was good , but margarita not so much . I ordered chicken pad Thai . It was ok . Ordered delivery from this place twice and they've dropped the ball both times. First time was right after they opened and they messed up food and the delivery and forgot stuff. Figured they're still new so decided to give them a second chance. BIG MISTAKE!! Completely screwed my order up the 2nd time and sent me something that I was allergic to, despite me specifying during the order not to, no idea how they can screw that up. Then, instead of being apologetic on the call, they gave me an excuse saying that they're busy. They offered to resend it and I said sure, since I was still left w/out a dinner but after repeating the order 4 times, yup, literally FOUR TIMES, they still couldn't get it right because they seemed preoccupied or just didn't care. My own mistake for giving them a second chance but I learned from my lesson. I typically have faith that people learn from mistakes but this place clearly won't. I've never eaten in but I order delivery often (around once or twice a week). Let me just say that they are by far the best in terms of delivery service. They're always quick (I live nowhere near the area). Food comes hot if it's supposed to be hot, and cool/fresh sushi wise. Everything's neatly packed and no spills whatsoever. Why do I emphasize this? It's because delivery usually sucks. Food may arrive cold and soggy, utensils may be forgotten and soy sauce may spill everywhere. It just goes to show that this place is very detail oriented and they care about their customers a lot. Food is average but it satisfies. I'm just really happy about the prompt and efficient delivery (as always) and they are and will always be my go to sushi delivery spot! read more

The wait staff didn't speak much English, this made It very hard to communicate. I got the crispy calamari as an appetizer. It was crispy alright, but nothing special. Sauce was typical sweet spicy sauce. My friend got chicken teriyaki, which the chicken was juicy but the sauce was too sweet. I ordered a bunch of rolls, eel avocado roll, spicy tuna and I also got a sushi sandwich. Which was the worst decision ever. It tasted soggy and had no texture. The pink color was unappealing, reminded me of pepto bismal. They got both my friends entree sides wrong. When we let the server know that my friend wanted rice instead of the vegetables he did the unthinkable. The server took the plate away from my friend as he was eating and switched out the vegetables for the rice. We both looked at each other in shock and asked why the server couldn't bring the rice in a separate dish? This was absurd. My friend joked that they spit in his food. I started coming here at soon as it opened. The only sushi options were Yuzu on east meadow ave or Benihana and those aren't the greatest. I come to Anzai atleast once a week with my teenage daughter that can't stay away. The sushi is amazing. I try a new one every time I come here wasn't crazy about the October roll. I venturing into new things and cream cheese is just a no go with me and sushi. Lol. My favorite is the crunchy Tuna roll. Everything is always fresh.
