By far one of the best sushi places in Buffalo Grove! I don't even know where to begin. The sushi always taste amazing and fresh. The price is not the cheapest-WE ARE talking about sushi here, but it is definitely more reasonable and cheaper in comparison to the other sushi places. Also, this place is strictly Japanese food, their focus isn't distracted by other genre or types of food like Korean or Thai. I once dined in a "sushi restaurant" that also served fries! What!? I should have left. Anyway, their kids meal is also one of my favorite things about this place. I always order the chicken teriyaki kids meal for my little boy, and it is more than enough for him. He also gets an organic drink a side, a fruit and a fun unique prize with the meal. Btw, that chicken teriyaki is the bomb! It's so good it's making me talk like it's the 90's. Even McDonald's can't beat that! So which sushi or rolls is my fave ? Gosh, it's like picking which of my kids is my favorite? Ok, well I have a lot of favorites, but I highly recommend the BG roll! Try it, you'll like it. I believe the delivery charge is free, and the service is lightning speed. I also bought red bean ice cream here that was a couple of dollars cheaper than at the store. Lastly, the workers behind the counter have been extremely pleasant, which is cherry on top, or should I say wasabi on top? Ha. AO's sushi is as fresh or fresher than my old favorites in the city before we moved to the North Shore. I can't explain it but suspect it has something to do with their sourcing and quick turnover of product as they are to-go only and very popular. My friend from the city eats sushi a lot and came to visit. We ordered AO for pickup. As soon as I opened up the container she instantly commented how impressed she was with the freshness of the sushi, just based on the smell alone (or perhaps lack thereof). This is my new favorite sushi place. It's perfect if you want something quick and inexpensive. Also, it 's not a dine-in place. It's more of a fast-food sushi set up with premade sushi and sashimi boxes for purchase and they also have a menu to order from. They make it in front of you and they usually take 10-15 minutes or less to get your order taken care of. This place is my go to sushi place mainly if I want to take out but also if I don't mind sitting in. The staff here are very. Ice and I know most of them by a first name basis. The fish is always fresh and they usually have plenty in stock in regards to individual ingredients if you plan to do a at home sushi night. Admittedly it does add up if you order 2 or 3 rolls for Abby yourself, but their platters for groups is a pretty decent deal. The sitting area is small and can only fit maybe 7 people at most. And they supposedly have a fish monger who is only available during the weekdays not the weekends. All in all if you want a quick fix or a quick to go this is the place I would go. read more

A portion of my biweekly paycheck devoted to Sea Ranch! I live close by and cannot get through the week without picking up some of their fresh, delicious rolls. The dragon roll is one of my favorites but since it's about $14, I often go for some cheaper items on a regular basis. The staff is very friendly and I feel welcomed every time I stop in. I also frequent the Evanston store because I work nearby. They have a larger space so the dine in area feels a little more like a restaurant rather than a storefront. This Wilmette location has added some noodle soups to their menu and they've started having more specials in the last few years which can only increase their business. We really like this sushi place. It is not only at a very convenient location but the food quality is superb too. They are not the type of cheap sushi you normally find at grocery stores but fresh ordered-to-made authentic Japanese sushi. Hey, I've been coming here since I was like 10, okay? I've built a relationship around this place. I took nice long walks here to and from my house, and after school would spend the rest of my lunch money on Hello Kitty crap.... I got a thrill of adrenaline every time I came to purchase candy and other unnecessary items, Sea Ranch even introduced me to my first ever sushi experience. I was hooked from then on. Ah, nostalgia. These days my time spent here are much less frequent and I rarely ever enter the grocery store.. As I've matured, I've also come to realize that there are places that serve much better sushi, in both quality and price. And this brings me to my point... my last Sea Ranch experience was not a pleasant one. In fact, I think it made me sick. I dunno - either that or.. it was simply a coincidence that I had really horrible gas on that particular day and puked due to the unbearable intestinal pains. What an extremely shitty day it was - literally! It lasted for many hours. My bum even shed a tear. While I am hesitant to return I must recognize that this occurred only once out of the many years to which I have been a loyal patron, perhaps making this review less credible. This place was just mediocre for me in terms of sushi. It's not bad in anyway and it's fresh but I just honestly wasn't all that impressed. It's just average. My husband and I came in and ordered carry out because of the kids and also because there's not much seating (it's mostly a carry out place). I ordered the California rolls, avocado rolls and sweet potato tempura rolls. My husband got the January special which comes with miso soup, sashimi, seaweed salad and some type of spicy California specialty roll with eel. Everything was good just not special. My husband did like his specialty rolls more then mine and appreciated the fresh sashimi so he'd probably give this place a better rating but based on my meal it was okay. I know I ordered basic rolls but I've had all these basic rolls much better at various places. In terms of everything else the parking is easy, service is great, there pretty quick in making food and have packaged ready foods made, and there very affordable. To sum it up I will definitely give it another try and I do recommend you give it a try but maybe more for the specialty rolls and sashimi. read more

This is one of the few places that you can get sushi for parties or just to eat without going to a restaurant. The prices are very reasonable and they can make a lot of nice platters. They have basically every type of fish imaginable and they don't need more than a couple's days notice. Being born and raised on raw fish, Sea Ranch is as good as it gets. Out of the numerous times I have been here, the vast majority of their patrons eat rolls which allows them to make decent margins on their buffet price. I do not eat rolls. Only sashimi & nigiri. So on that note, I believe the last time I was there I consumed approx. 15 mackeral, 15 salmon, 8 tuna, 10 unagi, 8 surf-clam, 4 octopus and 6 squid. ALL WERE AMAZING. I usually only get the avocado and shittake, but the Futomaki and Spicy Veggie Ranch are both very good as well. Some places tend to skimp on the avocado, but AO does not! There is a good ratio of veggie to rice. This place is very reasonably priced, especially compared to other places in the area. I think what makes their maki rolls good is the sushi rice. Something about the texture of them makes it delish! I ordered to-go platters before and gobbled them up pretty quick. And I am usually a pretty hard critic on sushi, in particular if their raw fish is fresh or not. Also I did not think you can screw up California rolls but I have had my share of bad ones before. I usually do not order California roll at sushi restaurants because I like the specialty rolls or sashimi but since I wanted to pick something that was shareable with my 1 year old son I picked it. Oh but I did get the spicy version though. Sea Ranch does it well! I love that there is spicy mayo inside. I will go here to get their sushi or fish mainly. After craving sushi all week but not wanting to go to a sit-down dinner, I ended up trying AO which is walking distance from my home. One of the cashiers was extremely helpful in recommending sushi. The sushi was overall good but not that much different than what you could get at a grocery store. A very solid take-out sushi joint for any occasion. Sometimes I stop and just grab something quick out of their pre-prepared (but made today) refrigerated case. Other times, I order off the menu and my order is filled lickety-split. I've also ordered trays from here that are invariably high-quality and well-priced. Sea Ranch also carries a selection of fresh seafood if you prefer to prepare your maki, nigiri or sashimi at home! Love visiting the nearby Japanese market in the same strip mall while I wait for my order too. We always love this place and today they took things too a different level! The Poke Bowl was fresh made to order-- you can pick your own piece of fish from the case and then the sushi chefs make your order fresh or there is some made up ready to grab and go, well todays was SO yummy! Okay..... Is it just me or is the sushi rolls are smaller than average! Did not get my money's worth. Mini rolls for the full size price. This place was way better when they were Sea Ranch. Sushi rolls too small, didn't taste all that great either. This will be the last time we order from this place. I was very disappointed.
