Recently came here with a friend for dinner and enjoyed my time. Very large menu with sushi and bento boxes. We opted to share gyoza, a few roles and some nigiri. I also had miso soup (yum!) and green tea. They were attentive, without making us feel like we were lingering too long. It is a small spot, but with a sushi bar, so you can see the chefs making your meal. Overall, the sushi was delicious - one roll was so massive, I really didn't even know how to eat it. And one seasoned nigiri wasn't my favorite - but overall a great meal at a casual spot. While we didn't try it, another table had a bento box and it looked huge! Definitely seemed like a good serving for the price.

Good sushi, but nothing that really blew me away. We came for dinner on a Friday night and it was busy but we were still able to get a table immediately. The inside is really nicely decorated and the vibe is quite nice - reminds me a little bit of Japan. We got the tuna tataki, negihama maki, spicy scallop roll, and kimono roll to share amongst the 4 of us. The tuna tataki was nicely firm and fresh with a tangy dressing - I enjoyed it despite it being pretty pricey. The negihama maki were delicious, as well as the spicy scallop roll. Both were so fresh and the spicy scallop was packed full and also had a decent kick. The kimono roll was the one I thought I'd like the most but it was just fine in my opinion. I didn't really care for the jalapeno and the pieces were pretty small. Overall, it's a good spot for a nice dinner that does the job. Prices are a little high but nothing outrageous. I would probably come back!

Aoki is a small Japanese place in cap hill with lots of traditional and roll options. I got the sushi bento box which came with California roll, salmon sashimi, 3 pieces of nigiri, salad, and miso soup. The miso soup was pretty standard, the tofu pieces were a little too firm for miso soup and was a little strange but that's fine. Salad was pretty basic. They give ample sesame dressing which I love. California roll was also pretty standard. They use imitation crab and added cucumbers. Nigiri was not bad! The tuna wasn't the freshest, it tasted pretty fishy. The escolar was really good, probably my favorite of the three. The salmon was standard as well. I liked the sushi rice as well, perfectly seasoned, not too sweet or overpowering. We came for weekday dinner and maybe we just came on a bad day, but there was apparently only one chef working and our food took super long to come out. No fault to other parts of the service, the servers themselves were super welcoming and nice. Overall, not a bad Japanese place!

Clean restaurant with great atmosphere. Went here before going to a concert in a rainy weekend. Didn't have to wait to get seated. There is a large menu to choose from. I ended up getting the Chirashi bowl. It was delicious with good quality fishes and none of them were fishy tasting, so it hit the mark. I think it is a bit pricey compared to other ones I've had tho. The order comes with a miso soup so that was nice.

I have been to Aoki many times in a past life. My family used to go there when I was little. We loved it. Then, I left Washington. Now, I'm back. I had to see how Aoki was doing. Aoki's supposedly been through a couple of owners the past few years. One of said owners didn't do a great job. Or so I hear. I'm pleased to report that Aoki, these days, is in fact good. My initial recent excursion to the Capitol Hill haunt saw the consumption of a sushi bento box. I wasn't in love with it. One of the fish pieces was a bit tough, which may or may not have been how the fish was supposed to be. I'm not a fish monger. But I didn't like it. Sushi, in my opinion, should have smooth, buttery fish. The second trip was much better. I got the volcano roll, an Asahi, and miso soup. My mistress also had a the volcano roll. The rolls were decadent and, in a surprising twist my mistress initially mistook for a kitchen favor, included baked salmon on top. A strong showing from Aoki. The ambiance might be my favorite part of Aoki, though. Outside it was raining. Inside it was warm, inviting. Gentle jazz floated through the brightly lit restaurant. The food came quickly and the servers were nice. Would go again. Four stars.

The inari, crunch roll, and caterpillar were all great! My partner liked the teriyaki chicken bento too. The beers were fine, but rather than a draft like the menu indicated, it was a can of Orion. The crab Rangoons were also good. The servers were working hard but things were somewhat slow initially. The ambiance was nice and cozy. We'd definitely come back!

Quick service and delicious sushi with a cozy feel! We came to Aoki on a Friday night and though it was definitely busy, we were seated almost right away. We ordered the Ginza, Seahawk, and Sea Serpent rolls with deep fried soft shell crab as a starter. Every roll was delightful, but the Seahawk was our favorite! The soft shell crab was sweet and perfectly crispy :) It definitely seemed to be a good date spot, as well as a wonderful stop for a quick and casual bite!

A cute sushi spot in Cap Hill -- it looks pretty unassuming from the outside, but the restaurant itself is cool! I stopped by for dinner with friends and we were seated immediately. I appreciated that they had a few vegetarian options. I got the Spring Crunch roll and it was great with the spicy mayo -- the roll did have a tendency to fall apart BUT the taste was yummy. My friends got the bento box and said it was great and super filling as well. Overall, a cute spot with nice service and affordable, tasty food -- I would come back when the sushi craving hits!

Located at the edge of capital hill, this hidden little sushi spot is a gem. It has a cozy ambiance with friendly staff. The sushi quality is great. Prices aren't terrible either. I sprained my ankle on my way back home and despite the pain I still thought it was worth it and would still go back. LOL. Disclaimer. Spraining my ankle had nothing to do with the restaurant. Seared salmon belly: 1 of the nigiris was a tad over seared but the other one was phenomenal (both were really!!) Smokey flavor and melts like butter in your mouth Spicy scallop hand roll I would rate this a 5 out of 5 on the spice level! It's spicy!! Big scallops and lots of cucumber and avocado. They wrap the seaweed in a paper so it doesn't get soggy. That really helps. Solid place. Will be back. They even threw in a free miso soup! Ps; there's street parking and I found a spot around 6:30 on a Sunday but I can imagine it's a busy area during the day.

Absolutely loved the food here! We got three rolls and the seared albacore sashimi. The albacore was unbelievably tender and was by far my favorite dish. Our waiter was very accommodating, and the vibe of the place is cozy and friendly. Will definitely be coming back to try more dishes and get more of the albacore!

Appears to be a pretty highly rated place but our experience was just very okay. The quality of fish was certainly there but it was missing points in overall flavor. I want to say sushi takes up nearly 40% of my diet and I have no issues eating it back to back for consecutive meals but this just isn't a place I'd come back to. Not necessarily bad food but not satisfying in the way that would demand a return and going out of your way for. read more

Came here based on Yelp reviews and we were really happy with the choice. Although it was completely booked for the night, we were able to be seated promptly when a table opened shortly after calling in. My boyfriend is really big on sushi, mostly nigiri and sashimi, and he was impressed with the quality of the meat. I was happy to have lots of sushi rolls to choose from; in fact, I had a hard time deciding on just one. I loved the one I picked (I don't remember the name); it had tuna, shrimp, avocado, jalapeño and cucumber with a spicy sauce on top. I have a hard time eating an entire roll, but I finished the entire thing and didn't even offer any to my boyfriend. He was plenty full with his sampler platter. We also got crab rangoons to start, which were a tasty spin on the Chinese staple. The shape was different but they tasted just as good. Soup was served with all orders; it wasn't my favorite, so my boyfriend ate both. There was a bit of a lag between the appetizer/soup and sushi (I'm guessing because it was very busy that night), but the staff was super apologetic and the chef even thanked us for our patience with an extra piece of sushi. The customer service is exceptional! We will definitely be back and highly recommend this place. read more

Ordered during covid and took the food to go. I was amazed! The fish is so incredibly fresh and well prepared. Note: I don't eat American Sushi Rolls - I usually eat Nigiri and am focused on the quality of the fish and the care applied to the sushi rice. I ordered super white tuna, yellowtail, yellowtail belly, salmon belly, and miso soup. All were incredible. The super white tuna was especially lovely - just melted in my mouth! I'll be back for sure. read more

I ordered a party platter here and the owner was incredibly kind. He made sure it was within my price range and took the time to top the sushi when I came to pick it up. He also provided photos through text for me to look for and pick a platter design. He also gave me an extra roll for my birthday!! I ordered the dragon roll, baked scallop, and samurai roll leaving the rest for him to pick. Every single roll was delicious. I recently came here after not necessarily enjoying the previous management. I am so happy that I did! The quality is high, the owners/operators are so nice and I couldn't feel worse for them opening during our current COVID times. First thing I wanted to do when we arrived in Seattle was to eat sushi. After living in the Midwest (FOR TOO LONG) you def forget what fresh sushi tastes like. Truly fresh, yummy nigiri and maki. The service was great; we just hopped out of the car in front of the restaurant and checkout and pick up went smoothly. We ordered takeout for 5 adults and a teenager and only spent a little over $90. The inside of the restaurant is really unique, we only stepped in for a moment, but you can definitely tell they are following Covid19 social distancing guidelines with how everything was spaced out. I hope this place is still open when I move to Seattle :P read more

Aoki had very fair pricing and delicious sushi. I got so much sashimi here and it was all excellent quality. I'm not really a fan of specialty rolls so I can't comment on the rolls and due to the variety in the sashimi menu I decided to focus on those when I was there. They had complimentary miso soup with the order and it was a nice touch (I'm used to it being a 50/50 chance in NYC). I would recommend their fatty tuna sashimi as it was really good and melts in your mouth. read more

Went here for my brother's birthday and indulged in an assortment of awesome maki. Every roll on the menu sounded delicious, so there was no way to go wrong. Also appreciated the price range and detailed descriptions on the sake menu- decided on a deliciously smooth nigori. The preparation took a while, but we were touched when they a with complimentary edamame. When the sushi was brought out the presentation was just stunning. A great find w/ genuine, kind and impeccable service you expect of a proper Sushi spot & sensitive handling of Covid-19 times. I've been trying out various sushi restaurants since I became a huge sushi fan and this place was excellent! It was very fresh and didn't leave any weird aftertaste like some places do. I had high hopes for this place due to the stellar reviews, but maybe I just went on a bad night. I'd like to be clear, the sushi itself was delicious. I'm not used to so-called "spicy" rolls actually being spicy, but they actually had some heat to them and I was stoked about that. The fish quality was excellent too. I'd skip the appetizers, though, we ordered the gyoza and the potato croquettes and both were disappointing. The service wasn't great. The server never refilled our water glasses, which was a bummer when we both ordered spicy rolls. She also didn't come to check on us, and it took a while for us to flag her down for the check. read more

I had my first date here with my partner at Aoki so it has a special place in my heart. The sushi was really good, it was fresh and delicious. The location is in Capitol Hill so there are plenty of drink spots nearby to check out afterwards. The service was nice they went out of there way to make sure we were happy. I'm still thinking about the Takoyaki! Highly recommend. read more

Just picked up an order of Baked Scallop, which was absolutely delicious! Fresh, flavorful ingredients and decent portion size. Staff was cheerful and friendly when I stopped by to pick it up as well. I'm sure they're having a tough time trying to ride out the lockdown (like all restaurants these days) - support them if you can! read more

This place is close to home so have been going for years including the last few days. I usually get sushi and tempura but have tried Japanese noodles and Katsu pork, all very good. Fish taste very fresh. Service is always very good. I have never been disappointed at this place. read more

I was rooting for this place, looks like a great sushi place with strong reviews. However it was a mixed experience. The quality of the products felt high, for example the fish itself was really good. However the final preparation was not, and the dishes ended up just ok. We tried a mix of rolls, sushi, hot and cold appetizers. All ok, but nothing to go back again. Price was the best part perhaps. If you are looking for rolls suggest you go to Momiji (its more expensive tough), if you are looking more for appetizers style of Japanese food, try Rondo (near by), Suika or Tamari (slightly further). read more

I'm on keto diet try to avoid carbs so I ordered sashimi for take out. It was amazingly delicious and super fresh. Also,my two kids loved their rolls. I finally found perfect sushi place where my whole family can enjoy!!! I will definitely go dine in when this covid quarantine is over. read more

This place is fantastic! We really needed a solid sushi joint on the north end and we find ourselves ordering from here almost weekly. Quality is so fresh and they have great classic menu items as well as unique ones. We've only done takeout and they make online ordering easy. read more

First off the sushi here is average at best. Now for the part that will hopefully enable you to avoid this place. They forgot to put half our order in and we waited 20 minutes before I asked where it was. After saying they forgot to put in the order we waited another 20 minutes. They made no adjustments to the bill, which would have been customary. read more

This is the best sushi I've had in Seattle! I did a pick up order and when I got there the service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly! The food was excellent, my favorite was the Don't Cry roll. It was so flavorful and had a good kick to it! I also love ginger and they added a lot on the side which I am a fan of. Everything is reasonably priced and the food was absolutely delicious! This will be my go to sushi place from now on. read more

Top quality sushi, fast service, very friendly staff. I don't have a whole lot else to say! We tried three rolls + salmon nigiri + takoyaki and it was all tasty and satisfying. Prices are fair (with speciality rolls a bit cheaper than many other places!) and I'd rank the quality above Musashi's, though the ambiance is similar. I can't say I'll be raaaaving about this place, but the sushi is definitely good. read more

We loved the yellow tail nigiri, Red dragon and shrimp tempura! Wasn't a huge fan of the sea serpent, just wasn't my favorite flavors! Definitely place an order in advance or you will have to wait a while if you just pop over. The food is delicious and the staff is friendly! read more

I'd give this spot 3.5 stars. The takoyaki was hot and larger than usual which I liked but there was too much starchy filling compared to octopus. The sauce I really liked. The volcano roll was good but had way too much sauce which masked the taste of the roll. The chirashi bowl was pretty though seemed like it had less fish than other chirashi bowls I've had in Seattle. The kabuki roll's spicy mayo tasted more mayo than spice so I scraped it off. It said it came with unagi sauce but it didn't which was disappointing. read more

I have still been a loyal patron of this restaurant during the pandemic. Although I only do takeout, they are taking great precautions for dine in services. Thank you for such delicious food!! I just tried the takoyaki and it is so yummy! read more

This is a great sushi destination in Capitol Hill and my new go-to! I will even walk past several other sushi restaurants on the way to come here. The service is excellent (and even dine-in it is safe and clean during these COVID times). The complementary miso soup was a delicious surprise, and all of the rolls we've had are flavorful and well portioned for the price. Will keep returning! read more
