Apollo bagels is 100% worth the hype! This isn't your traditional chewy New York style bagel. However, I found this to be much more enjoyable. All of the bagels are sourdough so they are gut healthy. The menu is simple, no crazy fancy, elaborate cream, cheeses, or butters and there's nothing wrong with that. There's beauty in simplicity and that is what made this bagel shop my favorite in the city. Bagels are perfectly toasted and light enough where you don't feel sick after finishing. This bagel block got better!! Alongside Liberty & Best, both far from the best is now the reigning Queen, Apollo. It's the latest and largest and the decor is so fitting. To be fair my overall review will be something like this-- taste alone I loved it. Do I feel like I was really eating a bagel? Not quite. They felt more like sourdough in the shape of a bagel, which is why I guess you could also say it was delicious but I almost feel like I'm cheating when I compare this to other bagels. When you walk in to this location, it's very spacious with seating along both sides. I'm usually in the area early on Sunday mornings and usually by the time I finish my work in the area at 11 AM there's a line out the door. I've been there twice so far and both times I got the tomato and cream cheese, which is DELICIOUS. Their cream cheese has a really nice tangy flavor, which compliments the sweetness from the tomatoes well. Combine that with the superior crunch from the outside of the bagel and the chewy bite inside and you could say that I was pretty happy. The butter and jelly was also pretty good, but I felt the tomato and cream cheese really stole the show. It was kind of loud inside and I really didn't like the choice of music either. It felt very chaotic. Considering that I usually eat bagels in the morning-- I really do not think I liked the feeling of the atmosphere inside. I didn't take a picture, but they also have fresh squeeze orange juice, which was good and fresh-- pretty standard. My friend also had their lemonade which they also said they enjoyed. I would recommend everyone to go at least once to Apollo bagels because they're pretty different from your average bagel shop, but with only three options of bagel types and limited topping selections along with a pretty hefty price tag, you might find yourself craving the seemingly limitless combinations that exist across the street at best bagels or liberty bagels around the corner. I was in NYC for a client meeting and stopped to try Apollo Bagels on the West side. There was seating inside and it was well lit. Not too crowded. Ordering was simple and friendly. I sat down and my bagel was brought out promptly. Lot of effort to keep place clean by very friendly staff. The bagel was excellent with the right amount of chewiness and crunch. We took the subway there (which was an adventure on its own), and once we arrived, it was easy to locate using the Maps app. There was a line stretching to the front door, but it moved quickly. The menu was small, simple, and straight to the point. I went with the smoked salmon on an everything bagel and added cucumber and tomato for extra flavor, along with a fresh-squeezed orange juice. The inside is pretty small, with a mix of sit-down and standing tables. It would've been nice if they offered outdoor seating since there was covered space available. Still, the service was fast -- my bagel was ready in less than 10 minutes. And let me just say... this bagel was everything I hoped for and more. Perfectly toasted with an incredible texture, fresh smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, dill, cucumber, and tomato -- every bite was amazing. As someone who makes lox bagels at home often, I had high expectations, and this one exceeded them. The toast on the bagel gave it a texture I haven't been able to replicate myself. I don't really understand the mindset of having no or very limited seating? You wait on line to get your food and then wait on a "pseudo" line again hovering over people eating, waiting to pounce on the table the minute they leave. Nobody is controlling the line and some people don't care if there's a line or not and just sit down. So are the bagel sandwiches good. Absolutely. Light and crispy on outside and tasty on inside with whatever items you choose to have on it. But unless the weather is good and you can eat outside, it's annoying beyond belief trying to get a table. And if you're more than 4 people then you have NO possibility of getting seats. read more
