Standard diner with Manhattan prices. We got the calamari, kids grilled cheese, burger, and gyro. All items tasted previously frozen out of a bag, calamari, fries, gyro meat, burger meat, all of it. The kids grilled cheese was a pile of the Kraft singles American cheese slices, the stuff that tastes like cheese wiz, and prices were about $25 a meal, the kids grilled cheese I think was just under $16? We were the only ones there at 7pm on a Sunday night.... The staff was nice and service was good. There's a reason this place is half empty. There are so many better diners in the neighborhood. The people are plenty nice enough, but the food is just not that good. I ordered a monte cristo which was literally just a few pieces of French toast with a slice of ham, turkey and melted cheese over the top. The menu says it comes with fries, but my server said it doesn't and that "a lot of people get confused since it's in a section on their menu that says it comes with fries." WATCH OUT too many bugs in the water they serve!!!! I felt like the service was forced(I guess people work because they need to pay their bills I get it!) I was served 1 cup of coffee as our waiter dropped off our breakfast and he never returned to offer anymore. My honey had water only. We were seated immediately. Busy but no line. A server came by and brought us coffee right away. Decent coffee and hot and plenty of it. I usually drink a quart of coffee in the morning so bottomless coffee is important. I ordered a loaded bagel, cream cheese, lox and all the toppings. Toni got an egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel. I got corned beef hash as well because when you go to a diner, you have to get hash. The food arrived quickly, all the servers were hustling. The hash was crispy and salty and hot. The bagel had tons of lox. I needed to use the hash plate to assemble my bagel. Toni's sandwich was good and hit the spot. Service was outstanding. Attentive without being intrusive. In New York for work. Stopped in on this diner for a late breakfast on a recommendation from a colleague. Service was quick and polite, dining space was clean. The staff were very accommodating and attentive. I must have missed the morning rush, as I got right in and was able to sit at one of the many tables. Had a skillet for breakfast with a cup of coffee. Both were good but nothing special. Coffee was a bit weak, I didn't expect much for diner coffee. The menu is quite large, with standard fare. A little disappointed with overall price versus serving size. Hit the spot but dropped a little more coin than I expected. I'm from the MidWest so my perspective on diners are a bit different than the standard norm of New York City. If you are in the area give it a try for a quick bite to eat. read more

The Applejack Diner was like a home away from home. It was just around the corner from the Ameritania Hotel. We were seated immediately even when they had a big group of touring students. We were greeted each day with warm welcome and hot cup of coffee. The food was served quickly and the menu was diverse for breakfast. I chose the Greek omelet every day and it did not disappoint. Nothing like a good breakfast to sustain you through the morning and beyond. One day I didn't even bother with lunch. Stumbled in here a few days ago because I was hungry and not sure what I was craving. Decided a diner was an excellent choice as I walked by since they literally serve EVERYTHING. Their outdoor dining situation is super cute...French style bistro chairs with red checkered tables. Not to mention they have outdoor dining year round, too! I ordered a few miller lites and a Niçoise salad. HUGE portions and excellent flavor. I decided to end my lunch with an Irish coffee which was the strongest and best Irish coffee ever....ended up ordering a second. My server Gabriel was super sweet and attentive, the manager Jimmy even came over to chat and he was super nice as well. Decided I would be back soon. Fast forward 3 days. I went out for dinner with a friend in Hell's Kitchen around the corner and she had to get home early for work. I was still hungry and ready for a nightcap before heading home so I remember Applejacks was around the corner and headed over. The staff remembered me and greeted me and sat me down right away. This time I ordered some red wine, shrimp cocktail, and fries. So delicious as always!! Overall they have great outside seating, a huge menu, delicious food, are usually open 24/7 (during covid I believe it's 7am-11pm) and a staff that is friendly and treats you like family. 5 stars from me. Ate here with coworker one morning. I ordered a mimosa with the make your own omelette. You get to choose one protein, one veggie, and a cheese. I chose to add bacon, artichoke, and Muenster cheese. It comes with potatoes/hash browns I believe and toast of choice. I asked if I could just get a side salad instead and the waiter said yes. I got that with feta cheese and onion. Salad was fresh. Feta was good and onions cut bite size and fresh too. Great salad. Happy dressing was on the side. The mimosa was strong and I also ordered a mojito after. Which was also decently strong! The omelette was a great portion size and cooked perfect. Good amount of artichokes and cheese. Wish I had more bacon. Overall good. $40 for two drinks and my food. Pricey for one person but it's NY. The service was great. The manager came to check on us and the other customers which was great. Happy he cares about his diners experiences! I didn't know how much my drinks were. If I had asked prior, I likely wouldn't have got them or maybe just one drink. My fault. Food is great here!! I was recommended to this diner from the hotel staff and I must say I was not disappointed. The outside seating was great for my COVID anxiety. They had heaters set up which worked perfectly on this chilly rainy morning. The service was fast and great. I'm all about customer service and theirs was outstanding attending to all our needs and wants. Then the food came: it's was just as good as the service. Everything was fresh, hot and flavorful. This place, ohhh boy. My first bad review and it's rightfully so. Let's start from the beginning: The sanitation sign is PENDING, so that was a bad start already. The servers made us pretty uncomfortable. When we told our server where we're from, he groaned. Soft drinks are bottles instead of fountain, not used to that but I can't complain. The food we received was terrible to say the least. The burgers were extremely greasy, chicken was dry, lots of food were unseasoned, some foods were burned and tasted like they were microwaved, some Italian noodles tasted sour... The chicken pieces were in some weird shapes even though they were drumsticks and thighs. Wish I could give this place 0 stars. Left this place hungry, don't go here unless you like to join in on gambles you know are rigged making you always lose. read more

I came to this dinner with my family since it's the first restaurant we went to eat in during our visit to Manhattan, however my family and I disappointment was immeasurable. First off each of our meals came on different times, I received my meal about 30 minutes after my sister have gotten her meal. My mother have ordered the steak which was flavorless and as stale as week old ciabatta bread. What a great stop to stop and dine while you sit on the patio and watch North Broadway come to life (I think we were north, we were at the top of Broadway regardless). Just a few blocks from the theater district this had a large selection of food to choose from. I especially enjoyed the gentleman who greeted us when we came up to Applejacks tired and a little sweaty (we hoofed it from the Met). He was quite friendly and welcoming and we were excited to be able to sit outside and people-watch. I ran off to the Theater district to collect Playbills with my daughter and my son and hubby held down the table. They were so accommodating while we were on our scavenger hunt. Considering the location is in that dreaded tourist land of Times Square the food was reasonably priced, portions were large, and tasted good. Our waiter was helpful, food came out quick and as we ordered, water glasses kept filled. Typical old school style diner which I still enjoy. Nothing like sliding into a booth and eating at a diner. Always fun to look over the pictures of celebs from past and present along the walls who dined here at one time. Open 24 hours a day Monday - Saturday. Closes at midnight on Sunday.
