What a great stop to stop and dine while you sit on the patio and watch North Broadway come to life (I think we were north, we were at the top of Broadway regardless). Just a few blocks from the theater district this had a large selection of food to choose from. I especially enjoyed the gentleman who greeted us when we came up to Applejacks tired and a little sweaty (we hoofed it from the Met). He was quite friendly and welcoming and we were excited to be able to sit outside and people-watch. I ran off to the Theater district to collect Playbills with my daughter and my son and hubby held down the table. They were so accommodating while we were on our scavenger hunt. Meh... or more like "Don't eat here!" Aside from the live roach in my silverware napkin; the two employees who were intermittently smoking literally next to our sidewalk table; and the poached eggs that were less-than-poached, everything was great. French fries and chicken wraps were decent. Stay away from everything else. Oh... and the cashier was, uhm, far less than friendly. In fact, just stay away from this place altogether. read more

I don't know why this diner only gets three stars.... we have eaten here several during our visits to NYC and intend to eat here again. The food is VERY good, very fresh. The service was great, she took very good care of us. People doesn't have to be happy, friendly, and smiling every of their life to give great service. As long as it's good then that's good enough! Decent diner for a late night bite after seeing a show on Broadway. Full menu of items -coffee, pancakes, eggs, desserts, or a gut filling sandwich and soup is always a splendid call. Considering the location is in that dreaded tourist land of Times Square the food was reasonably priced, portions were large, and tasted good. Our waiter was helpful, food came out quick and as we ordered, water glasses kept filled. Typical old school style diner which I still enjoy. Nothing like sliding into a booth and eating at a diner. Always fun to look over the pictures of celebs from past and present along the walls who dined here at one time. Open 24 hours a day Monday - Saturday. Closes at midnight on Sunday. I can't figure out the bad reviews here as we had a solid meal and pleasant friendly service. I guess we win! read more

There is nothing about this place worth visiting. It was expensive, especially for a diner. I got the $15 eggs Benedict and it was super bland. The ketchup at the table was off and tasted like vinegar. Not even the potatoes, which are hard to mess up, we're worth eating. Don't bother! read more

Cannot say enough great things about this diner, a real true NYC diner experience. Literally the best service I have received anywhere in NYC. I have been 3 times in the last few months and each times get better. Not only does everyone remember me, they remember my favorite drink and my favorite appetizer. The potato skins are the real deal, homemade stuffed with toppings and packed with flavor! Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you have an amazing experience and you leave overly satisfied. The food is cooked fresh and made to order with a kitchen you can look into and watch the chef preparing your meal. The menu is large and honestly has any and everything you could ever want. I have never been disappointed. Slightly pricy but worth every dime and the portions are very large. The only downfall is everything looks and sounds great and I want to try it all. You're in NYC and want a Seinfeld type diner experience? You MUST COME HERE! Nice staff, yummy diner fare, and extremely reasonable prices. Feeling lonely and don't want to eat alone again? Never fear! They have a cool counter you can eat at! This is a place "real New Yorkers" make a regular brunch spot. PS: They make the best, most overstuffed diner omelet in the city! Late night coming out of Carnegie Hall, looking for a place for dinner and dessert, stumbled across Applejack Diner. Group of five, seated immediately. Two orders of French toast, one with Nutella and walnuts and one without. Side of eggs and bacon, a plain burger, the Italiano pesto panini, and a chocolate and Oreo shake. Food was prompt and we were appreciative that the wait staff came around frequently to fill our glasses on such a hot night. No complaints about the food, a little pricey, but so is everything in New York. As we were leaving we noticed a cockroach crawling on our server. He had just come in from cleaning up tables outside so we gave him the benefit of the doubt. Thankfully we were able to beckon him outside, he flicked the roach off and I stomped on it. read more

It felt EXTREMELY intrusive to get a receipt sent to my work email when I had never shared this personally identifiable information with the diner. Why on earth would this happen when I have a paper receipt and never ever shared this with this diner. Please take me off of whatever list you have and never ever contact me again. Drawn in by the cute exterior but disappointed by the food. Breakfast shouldn't be hard to master but quality bread is a first start and the basic white bread didn't cut it, nor did the smear of guacamole on the "avocado toast." Plenty of better options in the area read more

I don't enjoy giving one star reviews out, but there's a time and place for everything and this place deserves it. I went on Thanksgiving morning since options were limited and I gotta say, they live up to the disappointment. Service is gruff and not friendly, overpriced and the diner food they're serving up isn't good. I went with a western egg sandwich and it was over cooked and tasted rotten. How does an egg sandwich taste rotten? Yes, I know. I had to smother it in ketchup and just swallow it, no chewing or smelling allowed. The kicker that secured the 1 star review was that I opted to have it on an english muffin. When I went to pay, I was charged a $1 extra. What? I asked why and the man I'm assuming is the owner or manager working the register responded: because it comes on a roll or bread, english muffin and bagel are $1 more. I answered: well that's silly and my waiter probably should have mentioned it. (It's not about the $1, but the principle, yo.) The owner retorted, well, that's just the way it is. I paid $6.25 for a disgusting, small egg sandwich. YIKES. read more

I usually like this place. it's one of my favorite Manhattan diners. this time around though the corned beef panini was horrible. the corned beef smelled fishy. not sure if it was from something else cocked on the grille and it got cross over taste or if the corned beef was going bad. couldn't eat it! asked for the check, paid and walked out. outright gross. read more

This is a pretty reliable place. I get delivery from them and I eat in occasionally. It's packed on Sunday mornings and service can be kind of slow at that time, but otherwise, you can usually get a seat and the service is quick. Food overall is typical diner food. Portions are large and the food is decent. Prices are high for a diner, but not bad for being so close to Times Square. It's a plus that it is so convenient to me, but I haven't gone there in my pajamas yet. read more

Well, I'd had my heart set on going to Carnegie Deli before it closes forever but the line was a city block long....fuhgeddaboutit! So, Yelping "all day breakfast " led me to Applejack Diner. It is a cramped establishment with a decor of pictures of C and D list celebrities adorning the walls. It was mediocre food being hawked on Thanksgiving weekend at inflated Midtown prices, by brusque,unsmiling older male servers. The food wasn't bad, but just ok. I suppose what I liked the best about this place was we were able to procure Irish coffee and Bloody Marys before noon . I think I will keep searching for that "all day breakfast" and I will not be returning here. read more

Just enjoyed a "Texas burger" & fries at Apple Jack's Diner on Broadway in Midtown Manhattan. Fantastic meal! The egg added on top of the generous flavorful juicy burger patty really added to the robust beef feast! Crisp dinner fries & a big dill pickle on the side made for a satisfying man sized meal. Add an ice cold beer, and I'm telling you this IS the best meal I've had in the Big Apple! read more

I came here with my stepfather for breakfast after a rather uncomfortable night out. Given my exhausted condition, having the food brought out in a fast and timely manner was a big win. However, I noticed an earlier comment regarding the ketchup and felt that I needed to further inspect this hot button issue. Upon releasing the ketchup from its vessel, I discovered that the pigment of the ketchup was much darker than your standard model leading me to believe that the ketchup is refilled, possibly with a different brand, compromising it of its integrity. Also, I recommend having more of an expanded selection on the menu. A personal preference would be to add crab cakes prior to exploring additional options. read more

This is a Great place for Breakfast on Broadway! Outdoor seating, great service, extensive menu & Breakfast-all-day. We had 2-eggs with Corned Beef Hash, "high & dry" meaning with no toast or potatoes. Fast service! With coffee the tab came to $32 with a 20% tip. Highly recommended. read more

Feel like taking a trip back to 1987 complete with poor food and sub par service? Then this is your place. Came in for brunch Sunday. Ordered 2 eggs sunny side up with toast, hashbrowns, and sausage. The eggs were raw on top. The hashbrowns had a strange aftertaste of plastic. The sausage and toast were OK. Service is sub par. Expect to wait. Host is rude. We landed in the city first thing in the am and needed some fuel before we headed out for a full day in the city. Based on the recommendation from our hotel, we stumbled into Applejack's. We sat at the counter, had great food (pancake, eggs, bacon) and even better company with Michael the manager. He was kind, helpful, and took a genuine interest is both myself and my niece. We came back and had the panini, which was phenomenal. We enjoyed the conversation/interaction. Plan to head back one more time before we leave the city. read more

Your typical diner experience. Stopped here for dinner to kill some time before a show, staff was attentive and the manager struck up a conversation with me. Food was solid and reasonably priced. Topped it off with a margarita since it was happy hour and was pleasantly surprised with the strength, certainly wasn't watered down like you might expect. read more

I dined here four times while visiting NYC. The manager. Mike, was extremely gracious and seated us promptly. On each occasion we were greeted by our server very promptly. I ordered waffles, eggs and omelettes during my dines here. The food came out hot and well prepared. There is both table and counter seating and also outdoor dining. We dined outdoors on one occasion and it was very comfortable and not particularly noisy even though it's on the corner of Broadway and 55th St. In reviewing "diners" I tend to be very critical when it comes to bad service and short order food. This restaurant is on top of my list of places to go. It is obvious the management keeps a watchful eye on the tables and attends to keeping coffee cups filled and makes sure customers are happy. read more

It was a delicious burger but the lettuce and tomato should have been in the side since the tomato made the burger somewhat soggy and a project to eat. It was delicious anyway. My server Fatimata was very accommodating and attentive in a pleasant setting, I would recommend and will return.

I've tried being extra friendly with warm 'good morning's' and such, but have never, not once been granted the courtesy of a reply or acknowledgement. It's as if I'm invisible. Yet, with specific types of people he can be quite chatty. The shorter of the two appears to take his cue from him. Today when I went in I waited patiently while he took pancakes off the griddle (you don't want to let them burn, of course). I just wanted an order of home fries. When he was finished and the griddle was empty, he looked at me and said he was busy, and couldn't give me home fries. They were sitting right there in the pan. I was the only one there and there was nothing on the griddle, yet he was too busy to put some home fries in a blasted styrofoam container?? Both these guys need to be replaced, as their attitudes are terrible. They should not be dealing with customers because they are rude and disrespectful. The two ladies in the register area are ok. If you make conversation with them they will engage you, but those two guys working the morning griddle makes for a terrible experience. There are other places to go in the area, and I would encourage you to seek them out rather than submit yourself to the rudeness that seems to be the norm at Cook Eatery. The food is good. No issues there. The prices are ok for midtown, but I no longer will go there because of the two rude morning cooks. I frequented Cook Eatery a couple mornings a week, as I was addicted to their delicious muffins. Getting muffins and a coffee was no problem, as you deal with the two nice women at the register. The problem started whenever I went to order something from the grill. The two guys working the morning grill have such nasty and rude behavior, I've often been ignored for minutes at a time while they kept their backs to me. Every visit was a hassle. Enough. There's too many other options in the area. I won't go there again, and neither should you.
