To-go apps only. That's what we did, so this is not a review for their pizza or their ambiance. We got in and got what we could in an effort to GTFO, and quickly. Why, you ask? There were time constraints, and we needed food. Fast. Armand's: very near to the venue in which myself and many of my colleagues were working with the super-awesome Candice G on her Passport to Elmhurst kick-off party. (Awesome party, btw!) We ordered some sandwiches and apps to-go and the lovely Colleen C and I bellied up to the bar and ordered a coupl'a Oberons in an effort to catch up/pass the time/play super-fast happy hour. Win. Here's the thing: Seemed as though, while we were quoted a 45-minute wait time for 'za, that our apps took almost just as long. (This was at 5pm or so, mind you.) Now, me? I come from a bar/restaurant background, so I understand waiting and I understand prep, so I'm usually not a stickler for that sort of stuff. But it seemed to take...well... awhile. It didn't matter, however, because our mini-happy hour was rad, and we got out with our foodstuffs just in time to return to the party to help out. We ordered: -two/three sandwiches (eggplant/beef/pepper+egg) -mac and cheese bites -two caprese salads -chicken tenders -bruschetta -I think that was it? And it's hard to gauge when you're going to-go, you know? But it was all pretty dang solid. Seems everyone digs their pizza a la other reviews, so I'd say give that a whirl? (I also was wayyy intrigued by their stuffed artichokes, so were I ever to find myself in Elmhurst again, I'll be sure to order one.) read more

We ordered a take-out pizza while at the Elmhurst Art in the Park show this spring. It had a great thin crust with toppings out the edge. We chose mushrooms and pepperoni for toppings and both were great. The mushrooms were fresh and sliced thin so they actually cooked through while the pizza baked. The sauce had good flavor. Solid thin crust pizza but a few improvements and it could be better. Pizza sauce could use some seasoning, oregano, garlic, and maybe some olive oil. I think it's a great deal if you get the buy one get one free on Tuesday, but it's slightly overpriced when u pay full price, Pizza bread, great crusty bread, but the marinara was watery so it made the center of bread kinda soggy. Thicken up the marinara add some oregano and garlic and it would go a long way. read more

Ordered to go, and either they finished with the order quick or the cold from the drive to my house was to far ( im about 5 min away ) but by the time the pizza got home it was already cold. However, I told my fiance to heat everything up and we were back in business. I would much rather go eat in. The thin crust pizza was good, and the Ruben Salad was good too. Friday night date with my wife. I had needed some good pizza in a bad way. Turned to yelp and there I was with no reservation, not a problem. I was seated right away and drinking Stella on tap in no time. I guess timing is everything because the place was packed in a matter of minutes. Servers were gunuine and friendly. We ordered a pan pizza which was like a hybrid of a deep dish and a hand tossed. The thin crust just looked too thin. The cheese was outstanding mozzarella, easy on the sauce how I like and quality ingredients. +Friendly people +great location +lots of flat screens +great as leftovers -The wings should be taken off the menu. My wife and one of my closest friend's girlfriend planned an outing in Elmhurst to have some girl chat time, and so we decided to tag along, but get ourselves a nice meal somewhere else to give them their privacy. Thus, our guys night at Armand's came to be. Monday night special was half off apps, so we started with an order of spicy wings. Fairly standard fare, nothing spectacular in all honesty. Good heat, enough to enjoy and not so much to overwhelm. In a world full of wings, you can do better at bars/pubs that specialize in making wings memorable. We settled in on two thin crust pizza novas, thin crust with olive oil base instead of tomato: Quattro Formaggi: Subtle hints of garlic, the the different cheeses realy make this a memorable slice. The tomato, unfortunately, detracts from the overall flavor, as it doesn't blend well and isn't strong enough to pronounce itself as a distinct separate taste either. Carbonara: Instead of prosciutto, they utilized ham... which was okay. The ham wasn't bad, just wasn't extraordinary either. And again, the fresh tomato didn't contribute much to the overall. Here's my take on the food: The crust is done pretty well... nice thin crust (not cracker thin, like I prefer it), but with a toothsome chew to it. The olive oil and garlic are balanced very nicely throughout the pizza flavorwise and not overpowering... a subtle taste that lingers making you think of the food again and again. In both pizzas, the actual toppings just aren't up to par with the nice crust they've made. The ham just tasted like shaved ham, and the tomatoes tasted like they were fresh from the store, and not necessarily the strong distinct flavors of an heirloom or other high class varieties. There's an imbalance between the crust and toppings that's hard to reconcile for the discerning diner... Verdict: It's a good place for a meal, with a respectable price. Closer to a steal if you come on Tuesday's when they have half price pizzas. Not something I'd go out of my way for, but worth checking out if you're in the area and looking for a bite to eat. read more

My cousin ( who lives in Elmhurst ) introduced my wife and I to Armand's about two years.He knows I'm a picky eater and thought that maybe pizza was the way to go. The restaurant is located across from the train station and a nice part of downtown Elmhurst..The pizzeria probably has seating for around 80 people. It is a little tight inside with tables too close to each other.There is very little lighting inside with the dark floors and walls.The paint on the walls are pealing in different sections and the walls are covered with huge and ugly paintings.If the rooms get filled up,it can get really loud inside. We like the Armand's salad and dressing but think that for the amount of money($8 for small,$13 for large) it should come in a larger portion.It does come with bread and butter.The ice in the soda glasses is crushed ice (which I hate).The service is excellent when it is not too crowded. Why, after all the rants I have about Armand's, do I give it 4 stars: The pan pizza is probably one of the best around.The pan has oil on the bottom which gives it a great taste.The cheese,pizza sauce and all the ingredients are all fresh and tasty. Absolutely the BEST pizza in Chicago, and possibly anywhere. Hands down. I've been to a ton of places and nothing even remotely comes close. The thin crust is outstanding but my favorite of all time is the pan. Also you have to try the Eggplant Parmesan, which I order at every Italian restaurant I ever go to and Armands blows them all away. Decent food for the price. Went with a group of women earlier this week, and the nice thing is they were very accommodating, they let us stay for a couple of hours without making us feel rushed, our waitress was very patient and attentive, and from what I heard the pizza is incredible. I had a Caprese salad and added grilled chicken, and got a ton of nice diced grilled chicken on top, made for a great meal (they should add it to the menu). Other things on the menu besides pizza and a few salads are pasta, your typical appetizers of mozzarella sticks and garlic bread, chicken wings, etc., plus pastas, chicken dishes, and steaks. They don't ever seem busy, but it is a nice atmosphere, and we felt like we were able to have a lot of nice conversation without feeling cramped or having to be too quiet. Overall, a decent pizza/family food joint in downtown Elmhurst. I wouldn't say the food blows you away, but the prices are decent and the service is alright. We had a nice night out and it didn't break the bank. With a couple of drinks thrown in here and there, splitting the bill between twelve women, with tip, we each spent about 16 bucks. Went there with some friends a couple of times a while back and had a veggie pizza each time. Always my fav. I'm not big on meat toppings. I liked the atmosphere and the vibe. You can tell there were some "regulars" there and they always enjoys themselves. I LOVE THEIR THIN CRUST. Next time I think I'll order their Marguerita. ALWAYS A FAV. I stopped in here before catching a train with a limited amount of time and really appreciated the server being so accomodating for me! She quickly recommended a menu item and brought me my check afterward since she knew I was in a rush. (Thanks!) I had the Armand's salad which was OK. It came with artichoke hearts, cucumbers, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and some kind of cheese. Based on the nature of the salad, it seemed like much of it came from a jar. I was also given bread upon sitting down- the focaccia bread was very good. I have also gotten a slice of pizza when they were serving it outside one night in the summer, which was very good. The place seems attractive enough from the outside that it actually made me want to go eat there. I did not try any of their drinks, but they seemed to have a pretty wide selection. We started out with an appetizer that was just okay. It tasted like something you buy from the frozen food isle. We also ordered a small to medium sized sausage pizza with green peppers on it. The menu clearly states that you should allow for a half hour for the pizza to cook properly which is understandable. However, we waited over an hour for pizza to be ready! I'm not sure about you, but that is a little too long for me to have to sit in a restaurant. We still tried to be positive though, we thought that they might of being taking so long because they were making an extra delicious pizza, but no. Once the pizza was finally out of the oven we were extremely disappointed. It tasted no better than a store bought pizza! Was dining alone and really wanted a small salad and some pizza. Too bad they don't do a small Antipasto salad similar in size to their small garden/house salad. This review is meant for the owner to see, I hope to speak with you to let you know your manager told me to take my business elsewhere. While I was simply calling frustrated because my order was wrong for the second time. I had ordered a salad last week for delivery from them with no salad dressing, I called and they gave me a credit. Which I said thank you for. Even though it was a inconvenience and I simply just asked if they could deliver dressing asap. So today I gave it another chance, specially said dressing on the side please. I got my order once again no dressing. Frustrated but never once raised my voice or was condescending called the restaurant. From the very begging of the phone call, the manager was nothing but rude and disrespectful. Calling me rude names and claiming I was a liar. Went on to tell me not to speak over her even though she wasn't even allowing me to speak. Exact words " you've done this multiple times ( not true) its ridiculous."Ending the phone call she told me to take my business somewhere else and she didn't need it. I never once raised my voice or used explicit language. I work in customer service and my family owns a very large sports bar nearby and I would never wrong or not speak to a customer like that. Lived in Elmhurst for a while. Armands is far and away the best pizza in the area. But bring your wallet, it's also the most expensive. What a disappointment. Went last Monday, after a little league game. There were six of us and the place was pretty empty. No hostess, so we pushed two tables together and sat ourselves. We were in the main dining room, right next to the bar and the carryout counter. One server on the floor, one bartender who sat reading a book, and one clerk on the carryout counter. NO ONE even picked up a carryout order the entire time we were in the restaurant. The server was not overly busy but tied up bringing food and drinks to the other diners. We must have sat for ten minutes before my husband got up and asked the unconcerned bartender if we could get some water and some menus. She was extremely annoyed that he had interrupted her reading and instead of pouring us some water and grabbing us some menus, approached the server and asked her to take care of us. It was at that point that the carryout clerk got to her feet and grabbed some menus to help out. I know Mondays are not typically busy, so a restaurant might not be staffed for all of the five tables that were occupied on this occasion. However, when you have two people on the clock who had nothing else to do, wouldn't it be in the restaurants best interest for these people to be taking care of customers instead of watching television or reading a book? After we were given our menus and waters, the bartender went back behind the bar with the counter clerk and they proceeded to talk about us and the commotion we had caused. The NERVE of us asking someone to provide service to us in a restaurant! We like Armand's. It is a comfortable atmosphere for a family pizza night. I have taken my son there after ice skating at the YMCA and when we just wanted to hang out. But I will think long and hard before I venture back there for anything. In today's economy, when customers are watching carefully how they spending their hard earned dollars, they should be treated with a lot more respect than what we experienced in this restaurant on Monday night. read more

I want to like Armand's so much, because the food is good, and they have great specials throughout the week, however the service has been terrible on more than one account. The first few times were ignorable, mainly slow service and an impersonal staff, however more recently, more absurd instances have occurred, and since I do not think I will be returning. The most recent time we were there, we were mid drink order with our waitress when another waitress walks to argue with the our waitress about us being her table, and after the initial one agreed to surrender our table, our new waitress walked away without addressing us or taking the drink order that we had begun to give. We did not see this waitress again for another 10 minutes. The rest of the evening carried on in a similar manner (needed to ask for bread, and it was another 5-10 minutes before we saw this). A time before this we had to ask for bread again, however the waitress was walking away as we asked(never was there "anything else you need?" - we just had to quickly interject before she walked way), and she never heard us, another customer, however, did, and caught the waitresses attention to tell her. It was another 5-10 minutes until we saw the bread again. No apology or acknowledgement of the situation. Generally the service is cold, and unfriendly, and I've never seen any sort of manager in the restaurant. This shows in their service. There are plenty of other pizza places in the area. read more

As I continued my search for the suburb's best thin crust pie (and my husband's search for any outdoor seating), yelp has led me to Armand's. It's a cute little place in downtown Elmhurst, right next to the train tracks, with a good looking interior and a teeny tiny little patio to sit at. We chose the patio (see above re: husband and the outdoors) and got mangia'ing. Overall breakdown: Our waitress was REALLY nice and was super accommodating, bruschetta was good (The bread, tomatoes, basil, and oil/vinegar were delicious but the cheese was melted. Not a fan of melted mozza on bruschetta...maybe I'm just picky.), pizzas were decent (Regular thin crust was good but the super thin crust, oil based pizza was just okay...too much stuff thrown on top which masks the nice crust and flavor of the oil and garlic...I think I have been totally spoiled by wood fired thin crust though.), and the beer selection is meh (Only craft beer on tap is Bell's. This is more disconcerting as you stare across the street at Flight 112 wondering how many are over there...). read more

If I can give this place a no star I would. We ordered from a doctors office for lunch for the doctors called 2 times. One at 10 something and then 11 something place this order. We clearly said we needed this big $62 dollar order for 12 noon because that is our lunch break. We get there at 12 noon and there was a girl with long hair glasses and we pay for our order and she says ok give me a few minutes. She comes back after several mins and says ohh the order said for 1 pm. I was like no that's impossible why would we when our lunch is over by then. She then proceeds to say ok do you wants us to start it now?! I was like yeah we are time limited that's why we called ahead. She says ok. I then go sit down and a few minutes later I got back up and asked are you sure because I'm very positive we wouldn't have said that. She said I heard 1 pm "i know i'm not going crazy" she then goes gets the receipt and was like look I placed the order at 12 28 I was like well it's 12:27 sooo?!? She was like wait what!? (Clueless) then goes back to check what number we called from I told her from a hospital number and provided her with the number she then was like wait they called at 10 something then again at 11 something I was like right so why would we say 1 pm ?!? She was so confused and clearly had her calls mixed up with someone else who provided their order to be ready by 1pm. So we waited at least 30 extra mins when getting there. I asked ok well is there something you can do because this is a big order and it's for our doctors and they have to go back to work at 1 pm. She said I can get you free dessert. I was like that's it? Really ? Well ok something is better then nothing. We get our order get to the hospital and guess what NO DESSERT!!! I called back again claiming she didn't put the dessert after clearly telling me she was going to give me dessert for the inconvenience. She said I did it was in a brown paper bag in the counter I was like well we didn't get it. Shen then says we'll i left it there. I was ok regardless you still messed up our order and it was done super late when we had called ahead. She then said all I can do for you now is give you 10% for next time is that ok. I was like NO it's not ok not only did you not place the order at the time we said you also didn't give me the dessert so no it's not alright she then said "can you let me speak and finish" I then asked if I can speak to a manager. She then said she was the manager and she couldn't do anything else. I then told her it's ok I'm not going to argue over horrible customer service you have a good day. FOOD WAS GREAT! BUT HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and I will not order again from there with a manager like that. Very sad. read more

My favorite pizza of all time! I love to order their thin crust pizza, extra crispy; this is one of those restaurants that make their crust just a little charred, and I love it that way! It's also a great little neighborhood place to go and enjoy a drink and appetizers at the bar; their minestrone soup is a frequent lunch of mine, and I love their caprese salad as well.
