I was a little apprehensive about having dinner with my son at Armand's tonight. After reading the reviews here, I was left with the impression that, more often than not, the service is less than stellar. And most of the reviews are about the pizza. Having had pizza two nights ago, neither of us was in the mood to eat it again. But we had a Living Social voucher that was about to expire, so we decided to give it a try. We were more than pleasantly surprised! While our waitress wasn't the friendliest I've ever encountered, she was pleasant enough. And, more to the point, she was efficient! Having read Rob R.'s positive comments on the bruschetta, we decided to start with an order of it. We weren't disappointed! It's thicker than most I've had and very good. As Rob said, the melted mozzerella is a nice touch. We both chose the salad option (soup or salad) with our entrees. I got creamy garlic dressing, my son chose Italian. The salads were nothing spectacular but they were good and fresh. The dressings were good. The only thing a little odd was that mine came with a pepperoncini and one kalamata olive. My son got neither. He chose Chicken Parmesan for his entree. He liked it very much. I chose Chicken Marsala. I wasn't quite sure what to think when I was told it came with sweet potato and vegetables (rather than the more usual pasta). But both were very well prepared (no wimpy veggies!) and it turned out to be a nice combination. The chicken was smothered in mushrooms and the marsala sauce was excellent! Really nice flavor. I rarely turn down a chance to try a place's tiramisu and I'm very glad I didn't make an exception tonight. Theirs is heavier on the chocolate than most I've had but, in my opinion, among the best I've ever eaten. It's a very big serving, definitely meant for sharing. All in all, Armand's was a very good experience for us. If I had to come up with a complaint it would be that I think $7 is a bit high for a glass of house wine. But, all things considered, that's a pretty minor complaint. read more

Love their pizza. Thin crust is nice and thin and their sausage is fantastic! BUT, their Tuesday special of buy one, get one free is misleading. Two families, we ordered 4 pizzas. Only got one free. I inquired and the response was "you could buy 100 pizzas and still only get one free". Hmm that's pretty shady and misleading. I could have pressed the point and told her we should have had her split the check then we would have gotten another free pizza. She even admitted she hated their sign because it's really confusing. So in the future it's separate checks all around if there's a crowd. Back to the pizza- had their pan pizza for the first time and really liked it. Nice and cheesy, could have been more generous with the toppings, but the crust is delicious. We had the Elmwood Park pizza and everyone loved it. The Aloha pizza was also delicious. So except for their pettiness and misleading buy one, get one free special I'm still a fan and will continue to frequent this place. In light of the owner's response I will agree that perhaps my words were a bit strong and I meant no Ill will to your reputation or family business. But, no matter how you slice it, (pun intended) it is misleading to have a sign in your window saying buy one, get one free. And, Mark, we spent well over $200 at your establishment so it's not like we had pizza and water and munched on the bread basket. If I want to use the word petty, I will. I don't think you're losing money on your pizzas and you'd probably do even bigger business if you catered to all those people doing whatever they can to get a free pizza, especially since they're paying a lot for your pizza, seriously? I'm not intending to beat your system it appears you know all the tricks, good for you, it warms my heart that your family business is on to those poor slobs, oops customers, who've tried to get more than one of your pizzas for free. Also, I did speak to the waitress, I had to hunt her down as she had a tendency to disappear and I could find no one else who appeared to be in charge. Really loved the food, had the Italian beef both times. I am from out of town, and it was my first time trying Italian style beef and I was impressed. Delivery was fast, but the 2nd time we ordered, the driver couldn't even tell us the exact price of the order, all he said was "$38 something". Other than that, we were very pleased. read more

Great food but terrible service from all around me and my girlfriend are pretty easy going people and right off the bat these people we rude. We walked in and weren't seated then a waitress told us to o find a table. Then it took like 20 min for the waitress it was like this the whole meal we though bread came with the meal, we did t get any at first so I order some garlic bread and she brought out the bread and the garlic bread together. No I have to say the reason it's getting stars is the food their food is really good. If it wasn't for the terrible service me and my girlfriend would go there more. read more

Amrand's never dissapoints. Recently ordered from the elmhurst location. We ordered ten pizza's for a client event. A few of us in the office are picky about having well done pizzas so we ordered one sausage and one veggie well done and the remaining cooked regular. Everything was outstanding and cooked to perfection. Without asking, paper plates and cups were provided for the drinks we ordered. Everything was fantastic, delivered on time and hot. I wish I lived closer to order at home but will certainly order again for client events in the area. read more

Took wifey and the grand kids out to Armands.........a long time staple here in Elmhurst. The food is good but I must comment on the service (lack there of) and the over all attentiveness. Couple faux pas' tonight: *Not bringing out bread. Do I really have to ask for it? *Menu says fountain drinks have free refills, We order root beer which we are then told does not have free refills (something about the root beer being Bergoff on keg or something. * We sat outside and one of the front windows kept flying open and knocking my wife in the head. The window was "taped down" but need to be re-taped. Kind of kills the mood a bit. *We had a Living Social coupon which I presented to the waitress before the meal. When the bill came...she had forgot to utilize the $30 coupon. She quickly corrected that after I mentioned it. Just looking for some focus/attentiveness. Food wise I had the Aglio e Olio over the linquine. It was good. Kids had the Margerita Pizza Nova (servicable). Wifey had Eggplanr Parmigiano (wifey was not crazy about it). I'm going back down to 3 stars...they are inconsistent. Took the family recently again for Cars Under the Stars and was pretty disappointed. I wasn't feeling like pizza so I had the lemon chicken. Honestly guys, I could barely eat it there was so much lemon. I know its lemon chicken and all, but whoa, I'll stay away from that next time. The other dishes for the rest of the family were just ok. I'm not sayin' we won't be back...my daughter loves the Italian Beef Pizza and that still rocks. This was our second time to Armand's in Elmhurst and, once again, we were very disappointed. The last time, the pizza had no flavor; it was the most bland pizza I'd ever had. This time, not only was it bland, it was also over cooked. The edges of the crust were brown. The crust was so crunchy, it was like peanut brittle. The pop was flat which was an added disappointment. Best thin crust pizza in suburbia Chicago. The crust is thin and excellent they put a little corn meal on the bottom it really makes the pizza. We went here at the recommendation of some locals and I found it to be just OK. The wine list isn't interesting or inspired but they have the usual suburban suspects. The bar itself looked very cute but no one was there on a Saturday night. In fact, we were only one of a few tables. The server was earnest and young but she was kind of unsure of herself. No manager around. The food was fine. Again, nothing too interesting or unusual. Clearly, the big deal is pizza. I had the baked pasta, which was a pretty big portion and pretty tasty. Not sure it was worth $15 though. Overall, you won't leave hungry but it's not a very memorable experience. read more

Went for lunch on a weekday. The Mozzarella sticks are completely home made, that's why they are nothing like frozen ones from most places. I'd come back just to eat them. The meatballs for the meatball sandwich are also home made, delicious! Prices are really reasonable. Would have gotten the pizza, but there is a 30 min wait as it too is made from scratch. The cornmeal on the pizza crust really makes it one of the best crusts I've ever had. Manager is top notch here, give her a raise. I always have a good time here but sometimes they can be slow with service. I recommend their signature pizzas, try the cicola or the bbq chicken. I was with my family and friends, and we were hungry, and we decided on pizza. So naturally we came here. We were seated right away and loved the options on the menu. We ordered a deep dish pizza, and was definitely more than enough for us. It tasted great, maybe could have used more sauce and toppings, but it wasn't bad. It was delivered 30 minutes late it was cold, greasy, mangled and inedible. What's worse is their careless customer service. From the delivery driver to the order taker through to management. Less than average food, and totally RIPPED OFF! my family selected this restaurant for my son and daughter's graduation party. I had eaten there once before and didn't really care for it, or think much of the service or food. But they wanted to go there so we did. This was set up as a "large group" gathering, and we were charged by the head. Frankly for what I thought we'd be getting (Pizza, Pasta, Salad, and a Cannoli) I already thought it was kind of pricey as each person was costing as much as if we were buying each guest there own pizza ($15). Unfortunately I badly over-estimated the value - it was notably worse than I thought it'd be. We each had the equivalent of about 3 pieces of pizza, a small bowl of pasta, a small salad (all served family style), and what turned out to be a mini cannoli. Then to boot drinks were not included. Each 10 oz. iced down glass of soda was $2.75 - yes $2.75. Even worse, no free refills and pitchers did not provide any value savings. So at that point for 3 pieces of pizza, a small bowl of pasta, a small salad, a mini cannoli, and what turned out to be about 4-6 oz. of soda - each person was $18. Mind you that's for about probably $2-$3 of food and beverage, per person max, maybe $4-$5 if you add in the kitchen staff and wait staff labor. On top of that already poor value, we get hit with a 20% large party gratuity charge that was never mentioned when the party was arranged, and it was implied all was included in the "large group" per head pricing arrangement. So our less than pleasant, not having to provide any service in taking an order, or having to do anymore than placing pre-ordered pizzas and bowls of family style salad and pasta on a table waitresses (2) automatically got to split a cool $100 between them for standing in a work station doing little if anything for all of the less than 2 hours we were there. (Please note although I undertsand why they are done, I never like auto gratuties. They provide a license for a "who cares" staff to give poor service - and this staff was pretty much a prime example of that. Mind you I am actually a very generous tipper usually giving at least 25% for excellent conscientious service. Having no choice and giving 20% for poor service really frustrates me.) Lastly the food was no better than average, just as it was the previous time I'd been there. As a one time dining experience maybe this place isn't horrible - but for a group gathering or a "let's go there again" place, I can recommend Chuck E. Cheese about 54 restaurants ahead of this place on my "places I'd to eat at again" list. If my family wishes to eat here again, they're doing it without me. I'll do the Chipotle around the corner, and meet them at the ice cream shoppe down the street afterwards. _________________________________________________________________________ In response to owner's comment: I respectfully disagree, and will refrain from calling him or any of his staff members a liar, or citing the all the inaccuracies of his comment. The only comment I will respond to further is that of which is indisputable. Based on my receipt we had 29 guests not 32, although we actually only had 27 of guests attend the event. I am sure he is simply mistaken and not intentionally lying in his indication of the number of guest on our bill. In any case, based on the actual number of attendees to our event, the average cost per head was $21.76. And as 3 of the group were kids, charged at $7.45 (not including their drinks), the cost per head per adult was actually $23.45. As I previously indicated, I will not get into sharing the additional inaccuracies of his comment or further respond to his unprofessional accusations, and name calling. I am doubtful he is intentionally mis-representing the account of events, of which he was not in attendance. I realize it is likely we, and his staff, simply have a difference of opinion and/or recollection regarding the event occurrences.. That being said, I assure all readers that my statements are based on my honest recollections of our pre-arrangement, my honest opinions of our experience, and the indisputable facts of my receipt. read more

Very disappointed...I work in the area & bring my clients here for lunch and the service is exceptional. The servers are on point, the food is fresh & hot, & the manager always comes over with a smile & very bubbly personality (cant remember her name she is a young short hair blond woman) to make sure everything is as it should be. HOWEVER my in laws came for a visit & we went to Armand's in Elmhurst for dinner last Friday night & was so disappointed & embarrassed. The food was served cold & sloppy, there was a group of people at the bar being obnoxious, extremely loud, and using a few words of profanity. (I am one to have a good time but keep it under control, you have family's dining with their young children) At the end of our meal I asked our server to send the manager over (not once did she come over to ask how our dining experience was) & after finishing our meals & paying she (the manager) still did not come to our table. On our way out I asked our server if there was even a manager because he or she did not come to our table & apparently the manager (whom I asked for a name) Giovanna was sitting at the bar, having a cocktail & engaging in the obnoxious behavior instead of tending to the restaurant & customers. My husband felt embarrassed for our server that he tipped her extra from what we left her at the table. I will be printing this out & posting it on my company's billboard as I would not want for one of my colleague's to bring a client for dinner & have this type of experience not only with the food not being freshly served but the appearance of none professional manager. read more

Armand's is starting to slip a bit and I hope they'll get back to where they used to be. The last few times I've visited the service has been slow and the bread hard as rocks. The chicken parm was a disappointment too as the chicken was very rubbery. The vodka sauce literally tasted like something was wrong with the recipe (I've had it in the past and it was delicious). I was totally taken back by the lady that was sitting on her phone behind the bar the whole time eating with a friend or someone, to me it looked like she wasn't even working rather lounging. Wow, I haven't had Armands pizza since I was a kid and the Elmhurst location brought me back to those days. Had a traditional cheese and sausage well done no trim and it was outstanding. Baked Clams were fantastic as well. Can't wait to come back and try the pizza novas they looked good. Had a chance to meet the manager Robyn, she was very nice and helpful when asking questions about the menu. We will be back soon. read more

I love their Pizza. It has a much better flavor than most of the pizza I have had in this area. Not sure why their pizza is different but trust me it is.The staff is generally helpful and friendly although I am not someone that eats lots of pizza I try to stop in here with my girls whenever we are in the area. The restaurant is always clean and I can usually get a table without waiting. That is important to me as going to eat with children can be a disaster when they are hungry and we have to wait for a table. Downtown Elmhurst can be challenging between parking and some of the restaurants being booked up so it is nice to have a place I can depend on. read more
