I've heard great things about Arthur's steaks for years but never made it here until recently because of how costly a dinner here can be. But when your friend offers to treat you for your birthday... :) We had dinner on a Wednesday night around 7:30 pm and luckily, there was no wait. We were escorted to the second floor which was a lot less noisy because we were away from the bar downstairs. We ordered Arthur's garlic bread to share, two orders of the 24oz. Delmonico steak (both cooked medium; comes with a side of potatoes), and two chocolate mousse pies for dessert. The portion of garlic bread was more generous than I thought it'd be and it has a fantastic layer of buttery and garlic-y goodness, but the soft inner part of the loaf is very dense and untoasted. I wish they'd slice the loaf before putting it into the oven so each smaller piece gets crunchy instead sticking the whole loaf in unsliced. Garlic bread aside, our dinner was perfection! The steak was cooked a perfect medium and was well seasoned, the potatoes were flavorful and really complemented the steak, and our chocolate mousse pies were the perfect amount of sweet and not too heavy - exactly what we needed to satisfy our sweet teeth but not instantly go into a food coma after we were finished. I wound up taking about 2/5 of the steak home because I was too full, and my leftovers still tasted great and sliced like butter the next day after reheating it in a pan on the stove! I threw my leftover garlic bread into the pan too and that gave it the crunchiness Definitely my go-to steak joint from now on when I'm feeling a little spendy!! read more

I know this is a popular eatery and the huge crowd we saw on a recent Monday night tells me that I definitely have a minority opinion but ... Years ago, when I worked in Morristown, we had an after work social here to celebrate completing a major project. Of course, I ordered a steak and potato - their reputation for huge portions tempted me. The chunk of beef I had was tough and not very tasty. Not being a glutton for punishment (although a can be a glutton for good food), I never felt the need to go back. However, last night, again as part of a minor business success, my friend brought us here. He ordered the big steak and I had the steak sandwich. His chunk of beef was as big as the plate and easily more than an inch thick - so far so good. He sliced off a good-sized piece for me to try and I dug in. It was cooked the way I like my beef - medium to medium rare. Sadly, it was as dry and surprisingly low on flavor as I remember from my years-ago experience here. My friend happily dug in and pronounced his meal yummy... Hmmm, as they say in Rom-Coms - it's not you, it's me ? My steak sandwich was an open face affair with a bed of lettuce and blue cheese on one side and layers of nicely cooked steak slices on the other. As with my friend's beef, mine too was dry and, because the air conditioner vent was right over head, nearly at room temperature. Expensive beef is a luxury I don't often indulge in but when I do, I want perfection - meat served better than I could cook myself. Despite my (admittedly) limited experience here, I don't think this is where I would go again to satisfy my carnivorous cravings! Sorry, Arthur's fans - this may be your favorite steak house and the attentive service we received here (outstanding and our tip and compliments reflected that) tells me that they know how to make clients happy. It's a nice place. Servers are friendly, drinks are good, atmosphere is lively. The food is decent, but there tends to be an overwhelming number of times we've been there that the table's steaks are cooked beyond the requested temperature. Medium-rare becomes medium, medium becomes medium-well...you get the idea. The cuts are very good, and the sides are good as well. Some folks have a problem with the sliced potatoes and onions on the side of the Delmonico steak because they look "old," but I happen to like them because they're tasty! read more

I've been to Arthur's before the pandemic but haven't been since. I wasn't sure if the quality would be the same, but I was glad it was just as good as before the pandemic. Steaks are cooked to perfection and so tender. The potatoes and creamed spinach worked so well with the steak. The rest of my family ordered the French onion soup and said it was one of the best. We also had their wings as an appetizer and it was so good. It had a smoky flavor and the meat just fell of the bone. The service was really good as well. Our waiter was attentive and food came quickly. Love the home and comfort feel of Arthur's. You can get a really good steak without feeling like you have to get all dressed up. I had to try this place after hearing they had "NJ's best chili" and it did not disappoint!! We ordered two orders of chili as takeout and I am in total agreement with this designation! This place was very popular on a Thursday evening - the parking lot was full and the restaurant was packed. A bowl of chili is $8.95 and it is a very generous portion. A little sweet, has bell peppers, beans, ground beef, and a kick to it! And it's topped with plenty of cheese and scallions! It's with sadness I have to report the decline in quality at Arthur's Delmonico Steak, and I say this with a heavy heart, as this is truly one of my favorite places to dine. Came here for my husbands birthday and food was delicious. Once you sit down, they put pickles and hot cherry peppers on the table. The loaded potatoes were a special. They were nice and cheesy but some were burnt. The farmers onion soup. Now that was some cheesey heaven. If you are a fan of French onion soup, I definitely recommend getting it. Although I will warn you that it'll probably fill you up. I'm glad I only got the steak sandwich, because I was only able to eat half after that soup. read more

This has become one of my favorite steakhouses! Came here with a friend, it was fantastic. It so unpretentious and down to earth with delicious food! Ordered the garlic bread, Delmonico steak and ribs. When his steak cane out, holy moly it was huge and brought to feed two people and then some. Neither one of us could finish our food but we topped it off with carrot cake anyway! Everything was delicious! Our waitress barbara was so nice! The restaurant has a very down to earth tavern feel which I love! It's in the center of Morris Plains with parking in the back. We had dinner tonight at Arthur's Tavern and our waiter was Óscar - He was absolutely the best. He was kind, patient, and most importantly, he paid attention to every detail from our appetizer, dinner and dessert! The Filet Mignon was absolutely delicious. I think it's one of the best in Morris County. To top it off he was extremely nice to our o my husband and I but especially to our daughter and made her an amazing whip cream and strawberry's! Will be coming back because the food was great and the waiter was amazing! I don't often take the time to review but when services is that great these days it's a must! During my days as a New Jersey resident, this was where my friends and I would go when we felt like treating ourselves to a hefty steak dinner, so during my recent visit I was delighted that my brother announced that he was treating us to Delmonico steaks at this place. It is as popular as I had remembered and for good reason: service was efficient and friendly, we snacked on some really good pickles while waiting for our orders to arrive, and the steak I ordered was grilled exactly the way I ordered it (medium), very flavorful and juicy and with a side of Arthur's potatoes, the perfect accompaniment. I had ordered a huge 24-oz steak and so there was a portion of it left over for me to take home and enjoy for lunch the next day. You know exactly what you're getting when you come here and I love that about this place. I come here about once a month, get a beer, a wedge salad, steak and finish with the chocolate mousse pie which is A1. It's consistent and very reasonably priced. Drinks - specifically the espresso martini - are strong, in a good way. The only "bad" thing I will say is I'm a bit surprised going through the other reviews stating that their steak is undercooked. Whenever I come here I always ask for medium rare, but sometimes it's more on the rare side. It's not horrible, but its one of those things that if I ask for it a certain way, then that's how I want it. Regardless, I'm ok with it - would rather it undercooked than overcooked. When my girlfriend and I went here from a long drive from Hoboken, it started raining and we had to stand outside for 15-20 minutes for our number 96 to be called. I've been to Arthurs in Trenton and it was SO MUCH better than this one. This one was packed and very loud whem we even sat upstairs. For drinks, we had the normal waters. I saw this Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail and thought to myself, there must be 8-10 jumbo shrimp in this appetizer! Well, sadly, unfortunately for us there were 3 lousy shrimp! I don't know who charges $12 for 3 shrimp, I can buy almost a pound of shrimp for $12. I ended up sending it back and having it removed from the bill. The waitress was very respectful and most helpful. For our entree, we had the 24 oz Delmonico. I ordered it medium and I wasn't sure it was cooked the way it should've been cooked. I have been to many steak houses before where they can cook a medium or medium rare steak to perfection. This was sad. The steak was very fatty and tough. For $30, I could've gone somewhere else in Somerville. I ordered this coffee from there but it had some kind of liquor in it. I think it was an Irish coffee for $7. Starbucks doesn't even have $7 coffees and maybe they taste better because this one I ordered wasn't even coffee, it was straight up bad alcohol with some white foam on top. I would never return back to this location. The noise level was insane. The food was poorly presented. The best part of the meal was the complimentary pickles! read more

My wife and I and a traveling work colleague wanted a casual dinner at a place not too far from work on Rt. 10. Not that my wife and I even need an excuse to go to the original Arthur's Tavern across from the Morris Plains train station, the three of us were off to there before the Monday evening crowd arrived. Arthur's has a bustling lower level, with a very nice bar you can eat at, and if you want a little more peace and quiet you can go to the second floor. We have lived within walking distance for more than 25 years and enjoyed many, many meals at Arthur's, now run by Arthur McGreevy's daughter. Way back it was very inexpensive and now maybe a little less so but still a great bargain, and the portions are enormous. You have to be really hungry to handle the 24 oz. Delmonico steak so if that's not the case we automatically default to the 10 oz. burger and Arthur's potatoes. And no burger is complete without a liter size draft beer, of which there are several types on tap. Arthur's Tavern is not a gourmet restaurant, and doesn't try to be, it is an old fashioned Irish Pub that is almost always busy, often with hungry guests waiting outside where you take a number and wait for it to be called while inhaling the grilled steak vapors that waft by. read more

Stopped in on a Monday night. First time back since they re-opened. The 24 oz. delmonico steak was nearly all fat and grizzle. Some bites were unchewable. I've been coming here for 40 yrs and I know there is always that 1 chance in 20 you get the suck steak, but, I found it odd that after 4 yrs I got the suck steak first time. Hamburgers and french onion soup were still good as usual. Server was attentive but a big wise ass. Thought he was funny but was very annoying. No more health sald, no more grilled cherry peppers on the steaks and every time we asked for the pickles they gave us exactly six pickles in the bowl. Seems that they are driving hard in the paint with penny pinching the extras. I will give them one more shot on the steak just to make sure. If it's the suck steak again then Arthurs has finally jumped the shark. That will be a sad day especially since Collins Bar is no longer there as a perfect plan B. read more

Terrific meaty flavor, cooked perfectly rare (and I mean perfectly done), nice toasted roll from Anthony and Sons bakery (I believe they get their ground beef from Green Village Packing), perfect size at 10oz. I have been coming for here years, as it is my Dad's favorite bar/restaurant to eat at in the area. It is right across the street from the Morris Plains train station, so it is a prime location. It is always very busy on the weekends, and they won't let you get on the list until your whole party arrives, so you need to be well coordinated if you're going with a large group. This restaurant is known for its steaks and burgers. It's got a very old school, well established, been around forever, type of vibe to it. There are autographed pictures of celebrities all along the walls, so it seems that famous people love Arthur's Tavern! I'm not famous but I also really like this place, although not for the reason that most do. Most people rant and rave about the steaks but honestly I was not that impressed. I like my steaks very flavorful and well marinated, but the steaks here don't have much flavor. You'll need to use a good amount of A1 sauce, which I don't really like. I'm really just here for the burgers, which are amazing, juicy, tender, and really cheap :) Price gets up there once you start adding on the sides (grilled onions, mushrooms, and potatoes) but it's totally worth it. I just wish they would have traditional fries to go along with the burger, but the potatoes are satisfying enough, just make sure that you coordinate your order of sides with everyone else at the table, otherwise you'll end up with a ton of uneaten sides. The lighting is really low here, which is I actually prefer as it creates a more intimate vibe, and it feels like your conversations are more private. read more

This location is actually better than the one in Hoboken, which is truly neglected. It really used to be great. My husband insisted on coming here last night, because it was his birthday so... The past two years, I was able to steer him to a better steakhouse, but I let him have his wish this time. Delmonico 48oz steak that still wiggled even when you cut it with a steak knife. Bland with a charcoal aftertaste. A1 steak sauce helped very little. We had to grab the traditionally served bowl of pickled cucumbers and peppers from the vacant next table.
