Why the hell would you go to Arthur's and not get 24 oz. of red meat goodness?? The thing is so frigging big and takes so long to eat that the waitress actually took it back to the kitchen about half way through my brother's meal to heat it up a little. The french onion soup is the best I've ever had. In fact, I'm willing to bet that it is the best in the whole wide world. The garlic bread is also really good. In fact, the garlic pickles and sweet red peppers on every table are good too. They also put green tomatoes and cole slaw on the tables but I don't touch 'em so I can't review 'em!!! Outside of the big steakhouses that charge $60 for a steak that doesn't even come with a vegetable, Arthur's steaks are the best! The fried potatoes they come with are delicious. They also have what IMHO is the best French Onion Soup ever. Like salad? Their blue cheese wedge is always a winner, too. Service friendly, prices more than reasonable. Saw plenty of positive reviews. **Disclaimer** We came here as a huge group and had a private room upstairs just for my family. 6 of us had 3 beers and 3 glasses of wine before going up to meet with everyone else and it was cheap! $36 with tax for what we had never would have happened in Northern Va. but I digress.. after sampling the bar fair (spicy peppers pickles and slaw) we went up to meet the rest of the group and mingled before sitting down to order off the lunch menu. We had 3 people taking orders for a group of about 35 which was fine because each person had another one helping them with drinks and such. But once we ordered the food..... yikes you would have thought a reuben sandwich was beef bourguignon for crying out loud!? I had the onion soup which tasted like they made it from the dry soup packet and the burgers looked like something I could get at Applebees. It took almost an hour and a half to get sandwiches and burgers and salads to the table, granted I know we were a lot of people but we had made plans for this gathering (post funeral lunch) prior so we didn't just walk through the door and say HI WE'RE HERE SERVE US!!!!! Some of my family who doesn't have quite the refined yelping taste I do ;-) said the food here is amazing??? Not sure what their version of amazing is but this won't be a place I would try again. Really, don't even bother if you don't want steak (or are not a fan of steak in general--and please, if you eat well done beef just go somewhere else). I've been meaning to Yelp Arthurs after our most recent visit. We've been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the meals and staff.we usually come with a bigger than average group. The steak has always been Meh compared to Ruths Chris, J&K and Roots, but the burgers, sandwiches, ambiance and staff make up for it entirely. Lest, I mention the Irish Coffees. But this last visit was what prompted me to write. That is to say thank you to everyone for making my daughters surprise trip home for dads birthday truly memorable. They let me make reservations early in the day which they normally don't take. I let them know we had only seen our daughter one day in the last year since she is away at college and that she was coming that night for dinner to surprise her dad. They were totally accommodating. Tara, our waitress was exceptional. She handled the 16 if us with precision. No one was missing or without a drink, all the entrees came out at the same time AND all of the steaks were cooked perfect and were really good. I don't know if they switched butchers but they tasted excellent and tender. So kudos to the chefs and staff at Arthurs. The surprise and evening were perfect. read more

Two stars are for the great service. Everyone was so friendly--from the hostess to our waitress. I've lived in Morris County for most of my life and just recently decided to go to Arthur's. I've heard about it time and time again over the years. I now honestly can say that I do not understand the raving reviews. This place is severely overrated. I understand Arthur's is known for their steaks, but c'mon, the menu was a disappointing one page and left me feeling underwhelmed. Not to mention, there were only four different steak options. I ordered the petite sirloin & shrimp entree while my mom ordered the shrimp scampi. I requested my steak cooked medium. It came out of the kitchen well done. There wasn't even a hint of pink! As soon as my waitress realized, she immediately took my steak back, apologizing profusely. I didn't have to say anything which was nice. My only gripe is I sat for about 15 minutes munching on my shrimp, rice and potato wedges while waiting for a new steak... By the time it arrived, I was kinda over it. It wasn't even that great. Taste didn't blow me away. It was your average steak, honestly. My mom's shrimp scampi was okay. The best part was the huge portion. There was enough for two meals. I always tease her for ordering seafood at a place known for its steak, but she didn't miss out on anything here. Won't be returning. :( read more

Love this place! Love everything about it! The atmosphere, people, food and specially the pickled stuff!!! The decor is very simple, wood tables and with red and while plastic covers, lots of pictures on the walls and bottles hanging from the ceiling. This is another "Gem in the wall" kind of like a hole in the wall, but in a good way. The atmosphere is pretty much an old mans bar, with tables for eating. The food here is mostly good, with the Ribeye Steak being the crown jewel of the kitchen. A 24 oz monster, aged and cooked to perfection or the bigger beast of a brother, the 48 oz. I have been here a good number of times, and always ordered the steak, potatoes, with onions. My eating companions have ventured up and down the menu. All, have enjoyed their meals, no matter what they ordered. Bucket of pickles and peppers on the table, is nice. If you have room after your meal, try the strawberry cheesecake. A great ending to a wonderful meal. Parking is in the municipal lot behind, the tavern, and depending on time of day, and day of week may be crowded. Don't normally use alcohol, but my buddy and my son, like the selection of beer. 5 stars for the food (steak) 4 for parking. read more

I moved out of NJ a while ago, but always come here whenever I'm in the area. It gets the 5 stars for three reasons: 1. I've never had a bad meal here. Granted, I've only ever ordered the steak or hamburger, but each time I've gotten great food. Good cold beer, fun atmosphere (maybe a little loud for some people - you won't get a romantic setting here), and friendly servers/bartenders. Stick with the steak and hamburgers - if you still have room, then have another beer. 2. Nostalgia. This place is exactly as it was 30 years ago. "Arthur's" table is in the first floor corner next to the side door. The wait on some nights still has people standing outside, with Collins handling the overflow. The menu still has the same items, with a few more things added over the years. Improvements include credit card acceptance - finally. 3. I learned an important life lesson here. At age ~10, each menu had a sticker over the price of the 24 oz steak. The menu price was $8.95, and the price on the sticker was $9.95. This was a "temporary price increase" due to an increase in meat prices (or something along those lines). My naive, 10 year old mind actually thought that in time, the price would return to normal, and stay put. Welcome to the real world, Dave. Overall, great, consistent food at a great value. read more

I got terrible food poisoning from the food here and the effects were almost instant! This place is a really decent bar and eatery. was in the area and hungry so i gave it a shot. Place was packed but the wait wasn't long at all. At the bar I asked if i could get a Moscow mule, a drink that often receives the "sorry we don't have ginger beer" response, but they did! That was awesome and I did notice the top shelf bottles were plentiful. When seated the waitress immediately set down some peppercini and pickles and stuff. Pretty tasty. Then the main courses. A rueben with corned beef that was literally covered in cheese. I say literally because when it arrived at the table I had no idea what I was looking at. moved a little to the side to uncover an excellent and hefty sandwich! My steak which was medium rare and served on garlic bread was to die for. Tasty, Juicy, and perfectly cooked. The garlic bread under was toasty and buttery but not too soggy. Overall I thought this meal hit the spot. While I really had no expectations at all, I would certainly go back any time for a nice sandwich, burger, or steak. read more

I'm really torn about this one. The food was good, kind of very good! We ordered a Hamburger and some Steaks, all medium. This is my test of the kitchen. So many fail at delivering medium cooked meat. It's either rare or overdone. The chef at Arthur's is on top of his game. The service was excellent as well. And the pickles remind me of trips to the pickle man on the lower east side. The part that has me torn, is how do you rate a place that has good food, but the eating experience is unpleasant. They don't take reservations, so you have to get there before 6:00 to have any chance of a table without waiting an hour. Once inside no matter where you sit it is just plain crowded. You are on top of each other chair against chair. If you sit towards the bar or door, those waiting for their table hover over your shoulder, stare at you while you eat and bump into you. So..... The food is good, the service is good, the prices are reasonable, but the crowds are too much for me. I'm glad I tried it, and I recommend that you do the same. I'm not sure I'll be back. If you can handle eating elbow to elbow then go for it! read more

To all fairness I have to begin this review by saying that Arthur's has been a favorite of ours for a very long time..(25+ years) Until... a few weeks ago on a Wednesday night, my family (party of 3) came in for dinner around 730pm. After receiving our wait ticket we were told the wait was about 20 minutes. After waiting in the car for about 20 minutes we entered the restaurant to check in as we were pleased to see we were up next. We were told that the wait was going to be another 20 minutes. We were SHOCKED to see 5 OPEN tables in the main dining room.. We were told by their manager that we could not sit there because they were 5 tops and we only had 3 people in our party. The best part was there was no one else waiting for tables!! Ridiculous.. one of the tables was a 4 top and they switched it to a five top right in front of us. The manager then proceeded to REFUSE us service and told us if we didn't like the policy we could leave. IT WAS A WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT 8 PM. I am saddened to say that I will no longer be a patron of this establishment. There was poor decision making on the management that evening and they should be ashamed by the way they treated us. read more

My wife and I really wanted a burger. We headed to Arthur's and it did not disappoint! I started with a bowl of chili..outstanding..rich, meaty, not a lot of beans and just enough heat. Smothered in chopped green onion and shredded cheddar it was a meal in itself. I tried to limit myself to half the bowl but was unsuccessful. It was that good. Then came the burgers..thick, juicy cooked to temp with bacon and melted cheese. It required nothing else. Both our burgers were excellent. If you want a really good burger at a reasonable price, I highly recommend Arthur's. Get there before 5pm if you want to be seated right away. read more

A culinary masterpiece in every bite. From the pre-dinner snacks to the steaks every bite is worth it. The restaurant has a very down to earth feel which is great and really makes for a fantastic dining experience. The bowl of pickles waiting for you is a great start. Top that off with a gigantic beer (for next to no money) and you're ready to dig into a great steak at an even better price cooked exactly the way you like it. I'm a big fan of eating my steak rare, and when I say rare I mean still mooing. And that was exactly how I got it. I have to give it 3 stars. I have been here a few times. A couple menu items are amazing, some are hit or miss. First off, the must try app is the French Onion Soup. In my life I have not had better. Simple as that. It's just simply spot on. The steaks, as you guessed, are all fantastic. The Delmonico with bleu cheese on top is delicious. Just be warned, it is a large cut of meat. The Arthur's potatoes as a side are delicious but they really need a little more variety. Now to the bad. My table ordered sangria. It was good but was more along the lines of 70% ice and 30% sangria. Two guests ordered the shrimp scampi. It was just bad, plain bad. The shrimp was the consistency of leather. It had either been defrosted too quick and/or overcooked. Both of those entrees went back and were exchanged with a Delmonico that the two guests split. In addition, on a previous visit, someone in my party complained about the shrimp as well. So definitely stick to the steak. read more

I love this place. It is a classic new jersey establishment. Grew up in Morristown and I would say this is my favorite place. I try to go whenever I am in town. Excellent burgers and roast beef on rye. And the steak is one of the best I've had...don't get me wrong, I love a good $60 steak from del frriscos or Lugers, but this steak is so juicy and full of flavor, you forget you only paid 25 bucks for it. Came here for my sons birthday. I remember coming here as a kid and it was great. This time not so much. The waitress was rude, and very forgetful. I ordered a Rueben which was pretty much tasteless. The bread wasn't toasted and it was soggy. I've had better from the local diner. The French onion soup was great though, as was the chocolate mousse pie.
