We were really pleasantly surprised by this hidden little gem. We were on our way to visit family in Allentown and looked for a Chinese restaurant to stop off at and have a quick bite. Found this place on the internet and decided to try it since it was on our way. We ordered shrimp fried rice and mapo tofu. Wow..it was like real Chinese food! None of that "American" Chinese food flavor. The shrimp fried rice had plenty of shrimp (all de-veined too!) and the mapo tofu was spicy and tasted like something you would find in NY! My husband and I have traveled extensively and one of our favorite things to do is try different Chinese restaurants all across the US. Most of them in rural areas are a disappointment, however, Asia impressed us. It's a quaint little restaurant that looks like someone's house and there are a few parking spots out front. Best Chinese restaurant in the lehigh valley by far! Friendly service and truly authentic cuisine. Come early for dinner on the weekends since the family run restaurant seats maybe 40 people. They specialize in authentic northern Chinese cooking and I come here every time I'm in Allentown. My favorites on the menu are the crispy chicken (not like your general's chicken), this chicken is very crispy, lightly fried, and coated in a thin layer of really flavorable and not too sweet sauce. We always get the bok choy with chinese meatballs (think 4 inch diameter tender pork meatballs) surrounded by crispy fresh bok choy! There is a parking lot in the back so you don't have to park by the front entrance. The service is always fast, friendly, and efficient. 5/5 stars, which is exceedingly rare for a restaurant in the Allentown area in my opinion! read more

This is one of the most difficult reviews I've written. Data from this one visit is so diverse. Family members I was visiting raved about the place and have been going there for about 11 years. It is rated one of the top 100 Chinese restaurants in the United States and has many local popularity awards. They also have won several national cook-off titles of Chinese chefs. The first time I saw the place driving by, I thought, "Wow. That restaurant is the downstairs of a house. Does not look like much. Either it is a great place, or it has a very loyal local clientele. Wonderfully decorated inside, it is inviting and comfortable. Family members run the place. So with all the hype, I must give my honest opinion and stand by a three star rating. Hot and sour soup varies from restaurant to restaurant and is one way I can tell what I am in for. A very dark broth was the first thing I noticed. It was spiced up with red peppers but not very sour. The broth was tasty but heavy. Jane is my sister's name and we were out for a family dinner. "Jane's Special Birthday Dinner" is one of their standard specialties, so I ordered it. I was disappointed. If you taste food with your eyes first, you tasted a lumpy dark brown pile. I could not distinguish where the vegetables were. Pork, in a crunchy coating with special brown sauce was the meal's description. It was a crunchy coating, all right. It was also way too thick and salty. The pork flavor was totally lost and the size of the pork strips almost got lost in the coating. And it tasted brown. My brother in law ordered the Pad Thai with tofu and had trouble finding the tofu. When he questioned the owner, the owner insisted tofu was there. I did not see it. Unless my family insist I try it again, I will not go back. Now, I live in the Nashville, TN area and I may not even make it back here, but I will not go on my own. read more

Asia. This review has been a long time coming. I've been frequenting Asia for quite some time and every time I dine here, the food is just as good as before. With a large, very diverse Southeast Asian menu choices range from the well known (e.g., pad Thai, orange chicken) to the somewhat obscure (e.g., braised lion's head - NOT what you think it is). To sample more authentic and exotic dishes, ask for the Chinese menu; it has more items. The proprietors are extremely proud of their well earned reputation and accolades and showcase them as soon as you enter the dining room with huge banners and posters. Patrons of this restaurant will swear to its authenticity and quality and I am pretty much in agreement. The food is absolutely delicious, served generously and made to order by the owner/chef himself. I'm a big fan of the Hong Kong style pan fried noodles, the ridiculously large and fiery firecracker chicken and the mouthwatering and tender boneless spare ribs. But I think my favorite dish is the braised lion's head (3 super fat braised Chinese meatballs made with pork). It's moist, wildly flavorful and humongous!. Who doesn't love big balls?! Service is always impeccable. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. It gets quite busy here for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays but you should have no problems getting a table during the week. They're closed on Sundays. Prices are extremely reasonable. Some friends had told us to meet them as this nondescript place somewhere between Bethlehem and Allentown, as it boasts awards of "In the Top 100 Asian Restaurants in the Country". I was a tad skeptical (why haven't I heard of this before if its so great?), but trust their impeccable judgement. Well holy god, I am indebted to them. The inside of the restaurant is a lot more pleasing than the outside. (The outside looks kind of divey, but inside is fancier while still being somewhat casual .) The menu is extensive with a lot of dishes I haven't see in other restaurants in the area. The dish I chose is at the bottom of the second page, called "A-Girls-First-Name's Eggplant". ("Ashley's Eggplant"or "Margot's Eggplant" or something, I can't quite recall.) The description actually says 'This is so good, you will just have to order it to understand' essentially, and that is no lie. It was DELICIOUS. The sauce was tangy, and the eggplant was cooked well and absorbed all the flavor, not oily. You think to yourself "how good can eggplant actually be?" but guys, you don't even know unless you've had it. I had to hold back from pulling a total Rachel Ray the whole time I was eating to keep from saying "mmmmm WOW this is AMAZING" between chews. I'm sure they offer takeout, but the atmosphere is nice for a sit-down meal, and the quality is far superior than 'chinese takeout'. The prices for a dinner dish range from about $10-15. I used to be a big fan of Asia. But not so much any more. The last few times I ate there (take out), the sweet corn chicken soup had clumps of what I can only presume to be corn starch, the fried rice was a bit too soy sauce heavy, and therefore a bit too salty, and the taste of the food was marginally better than my neighborhood Chinese joint. What they have going for them is an extensive menu (they have a separate Chinese menu that we usually order from). The sizzling black pepper steak has always been my favorite, but it's not as delicious as it was 2 years ago. Come on Asia, you can do better. I know this, because you used to do better. Not sure if the chef changed, or if I'm just unlucky. I haven't given up quite yet. I'll try it a couple more times before I abandon my good Asia memories :D read more

We don't eat here as often as we want to but every time we do we have a great meal. Service is great and even when it's a little long to get drinks, take our order the server apologizes. The lucky pockets are our favorite app. We've tried a variety of entrees and none of them have disappointed us. My fave is Hong Kong style fried noodles with beef. We've been meaning to try Asia for a over a year after always seeing it on the top of the the Yelp list for Chinese. We finally hit it Christmas weekend and had a great meal. "Moran" dumplings were tender and very tasty, nicely thin-skinned and not heavy or doughy. Braised Lion Heads (large pork meatballs) were fantastic - we've never had anything like that before and look forward to trying it again. Pad Thai was decent, spiced as requested. Portions very large. Decor is the typical kitsch, with Maneki Neko at the front desk and calligraphy paintings/lanterns on the walls. If I had a complaint I thought the dining room was way too brightly lit, and it was super warm the night we were there (though in fairness it was freezing outside.) Servers super nice and fast. Tip: Try to come in so you can make a right turn into the parking lot - you'll turn your hair white trying to make a left in if the traffic is heavy. BYOB with no fee. Really interesting and varied menu, way more than just the standard takeout fare. We're very happy to have found a great sit-down Chinese. read more

Asia is definitely the best Chinese food in the valley. If you're far from major cities like NYC or Philly, this is the best you're going to get here. Asia was also ranked one of the Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the country in 2007. This is a place where you can get authentic Chinese food, as well as traditional "American" style Chinese food. The prices are reasonable and there are specials. I've gone here at least 5 times already and I've always leave satisfied. I am a huge fan of Philly Chinatown, especially Thai Lake or Joy Tsin Lau, and have traveled the hour ride, just to eat chinese food. Imagine my joy when discovering this gem, just 10 min from home. This cleaner, frendlier, and closer restaurant offers almost all of what you can get in Chinatown, including traditional chinese, as well as "american"chinese. I just had lunch here this week and enjoyed it. I had the mapodofu (spicy tofu) and beef chow fun. They were a bit greezy for my taste and the oil seemed to bland out the flavor of the sauces in my opinion, but overall I really enjoyed it. I also had the special homemade ice cream made of cinnamon and fried noodlebits which would've been fabulous if it was fresh (it was completely riddled with those ice chunks you get when ice cream sits too long in your freezer). I also ilke that they offer brown rice as an alternative. It's not the best asian restaurant I've ever been to, but I believe it's probably the best one in the area and I'll definitely be back when I'm not in the mood to cook my own. The menu seems predominantly chinese (both authentic and americanized), but also includes a lot of japanese and thai food, and even a variation of kimchi (will try that next time). They have a chinese menu for those who can read it, and when I was there they were taking pictures for a new menu that should be coming out in the new year. The ambience is great (typical chinese decor), the place is clean and seating includes tables and cozy booths, although the restaurant itself it pretty small and the parking is tight. read more

I absolutely love this place. I order their food at least once a month to go. Their prices are so expensive however you get what you pay for. The portion sizes are huge. Always fill me up. They even have bubble tea :) The only reason I'm giving four out of five stars is because the place is very tiny. When you sit down you don't have very much room to move around. When you get up you end up bumping the table or might even bump other people. It can get very loud when it's filled up because of the tiny space and more or less I can hear other peoples conversations and not the one that I'm having with my family or friends. One thing that my mom absolutely loves you can bring your own wine. Every time we go she brings some kind of wine and they give you a glass of water with ice. It's pretty awesome if you ask me. The employees are incredibly nice pretty sure they know me by now since I come in so often. It's only a five minute drive from my house^^ I recommend the shrimp dumplings and the lettuce cups appetizers, those are my favorite and I get those every time! read more

The circumstances which brought our posse of three to Asia wasn't related to hunger or wanting to try out a new restaurant, it was actually a hobby called geocaching. There happens to be a geocache located in close proximity to this place. After we found it, we figured it was lunch, we were hungry, and the smell of food drifting out of the place smelled fantastic. Walking in, the place was very clean. Not many people were there for lunch, but that was actually nice. After we were seated and served the crisps and sauce along with tea (nice!) we all chose a "bowl" from the lunch menu. If you're here for lunch, there are a handful of lunches consisting of a variety of meats and/or vegetables with sauce/seasonings served over rice or noodles in a bowl. All 3 of us really enjoyed our bowls. The sauce was delicious without being heavy in each of them and the meats and veggies were fresh and tasty. I'd come back again. I am always happy with my food every time I come here. The fried rice is amazing, we've had the sesame chicken, the general tso's, the orange chicken, the pepper steak, the chicken and broccoli, the chicken and snow peas, the steamed mixed vegetables, the pork dumplings, egg rolls, spring rolls, the jade chicken, the sake beef and chicken, gosh I don't even know what else -- we've tried a lot!! We loved every single dish! Best in the valley, for sure!!!! We have tried take out and dine in and both ways, the experience was excellent. I enjoy coming to this Chinese kick it up a notch restaurant . It isn't your typical Chinese take out place. The dining area is cozy and decorated nicely. It is byob which is an added bonus for me. The food is excellent I haven't had a bad experience yet. I personally always get the Japanese miso soup. I feel like I am eating ocean which makes me think iodine and it is good for my thyroid. I ordered the general Tsos and asked for extra extra spicy. Wow this was the first time that they really obliged . Even though I was suffering, I enjoyed every bite. Excellent food. I've been here many times & drive past several other Chinese restaurants on the way. Worth the trip! The food is always top-notch. Excellent beef & broccoli, singapore me-fun, seafood dishes. Most of the other Chinese restaurants/buffets in the area have terrible shrimp with a freezer burn taste. I've had dishes with shrimp here several times never having that issue (I'm 99.9% sure they're fresh not frozen). Service is good/attentive. The fried noodles they bring you are fresh & usually still warm. They are great paired with duck sauce & some of the hot mustard. Tea (included) is good & they don't try pushing sodas to make you feel uneasy if you don't order one like some of the other places do. I usually go during the week since Friday/Saturday nights can get busy there. read more

It pains me to write a negative review, but tonight must have been an off night for Asia. When we looked over the menu, it looked promising, but somewhere between concept and execution, something went wonky. First of all, the ambiance is nothing like what we imagined, as a Top 100 Chinese restaurant, you would think that it wouldn't resemble a takeout place, with tickets sitting on the counter, hogged up floors, dust on their awards, poor quality furniture and kitsch all over the walls. Second, even though we'd called ahead, our reception was scattered and our waitress seemed far more interested in her half-drunk friends sitting at the corner table looking at pictures and playing games on their phones than in actually taking our order. When we finally did get her attention and my husband asked about steamed buns, she informed us that they only came with the Peking Duck and didn't seem very interested in finding out if they could be ordered separately. Not seeing some of the things that looked really good from the menu on their website, we ordered several appetizers instead to suss it out. First out was the kimchee, which was spicy and sweet, but much more reminiscent of pickled cabbage than the fermented product I've come to know and love. Tempeh, described as "sliced and sprinkled with sesame seeds" came out as 1/16" thin strips literally CRUSTED in sesame seeds, making them hard, tasteless and only edible by using your fingers to hold them and dipping them in sauce to assist in the chewing process. We ordered lettuce cups, which came out with VERY dry ground chicken (to the point that it was unappetizing) sprinkled with peanuts, but devoid of water chestnuts, carrot, celery or any other recognizable vegetable substance and instead of lettuce "cups", it was mounded on top of giant chunks of iceberg, making them almost impossible to eat (had we even wanted to....) That dish went back. Vietnamese Summer Rolls with Basil Cashew Sauce were fresh and good - no complaints there, other than they completely self-destructed upon the first bite. Seafood tartlets....just from the name alone, I had a bad feeling when I ordered them. Though the contents were good (the fish in them was cooked PERFECTLY, which you can't fake), the sauce was a little too heavy and the shells tasted of used oil and were stale. When the Buddha's Delight vegetarian entrée came out, I was already so annoyed, I didn't bother. Apparently, according to the husband, it was very well made, with fresh veggies like asparagus, bok choy, lotus root, enoki mushrooms, baby corn, water chestnuts and served with rice. Too little, too late for me, so we brought it home instead. If I'd had this experience more than once, I'd say someone's enthusiasm is flagging and Gordon Ramsay should get his arse over there, stat. But, considering there are some great reviews, I'll be kinder and say that maybe we were just unlucky. But, if I had my druthers, you might give your busboy a decent raise, because it seemed like he was the only one who gave a damn about doing his job tonight! read more

We heard this restaurant as it had lots of rewards on Chinese newspaper. On the way back to Philadelphia, we made a detour to try it. It's really he-he if you mark this one as best. The menu looks so boring to us so we just tried the suggested dishes, they were too sour and my fiancé even didnot want to pick once. Ok, we will never go there again. My fiancé told me to give a 1 star to it. It may be just not our taste. My friends from northeastern China said the pickle cabbage was traditional. I found Asia's because of a review in the Morning Call. May Wong and her husband, Chef Alex, make everyone welcome. May's memory for names is incredible! Don't go just to meet May, though. The food is seriously delicious. Make sure to begin with the Moran Dumplings. These are marvelous little steamed dumplings stuffed with shrimp. I could eat many of these delicious little morsels. The Miso Shrimp and Chicken is absolutely delicious as is the Ginger Scallion Shrimp and Scallops. Both are listed under "Asia Creations." My current favorite, however, is the incredible Japanese Eryngii Mushroom Stir-Fry with Chicken and Shrimp. Those mushrooms are wonderful! Meaty and savory, they could be a dish all by themselves! May and Alex always make it a point to greet their guests. I feel like I belong there. The BYOB format is good, because I can bring in my own wine and keep the cost of the meal down. What I find interesting about the menu is that they don't list all the typical Chinese menu staples under the type of meat, but under the style of cooking. There are headings for Kung Pao, Sesame, MuShu, Orange, Sweet and Sour, and Ding with all the different protein sources listed under the general heading. We love, love, love this place and its owners! The food is amazingly good....so good that you will have that "taste memory" whenever you think of them. Ancient Chinese saying "When Chinese restaurant put Yelp sticker on front door, you know they for gweilo." I could end the review right there but I'll leave the existential debate about arguing on Yelp about Yelp advertisements on restaurant doors to the philosophers. I certainly believe they're one of the best full-menu Chinese restaurant in the Lehigh Valley. But that only holds up because it's the only fish in the ocean that is this region. I had the Zha jiang mian and not only was I not impressed, I thought that the portions were small given the price. My mother had some sort of spicy Chinese beef soup that she claimed was "okay" but I thought was rather greasy and just blah. Also their restaurant claims to be in the "Top 100" Chinese restaurants in the nation. I'd like to know the sample size of that survey. Also if you hype yourself up like that you better be able to live up to that sort of claim. Asia is the best Chinese restaurant in the Lehigh Valley. There is two reasons why: 1)The Food - The food is all absolutely delicious. The menu has a huge selection covering Thai, Japanese, and Chinese. There is also a Chinese menu that has authentic Chinese food. The beautiful thing is that there is very authentic food as well as very Americanized food to please all kinds of taste buds. Alex the owner and chef specializes in Cantonese food and this is definitely the highlight of the restaurant. You can get things you won't find elsewhere in the Lehigh Valley such as Peking Duck. Actually anything you want he will make for you if you call ahead. I'm a huge fan of the sauces that are used in the dishes. They are homemade and delicious. The homemade ice cream is fabulous too but they run out often. 2.)The Staff - The family that runs the restaurant are some of the nicest people around. If you come back a few times they will make you feel at home even remembering what you talked about last. The staff is very attentive and accommodating to the extreme. Alex the chef almost always comes out to see if you liked the food. He will literally make anything you want as well. This is truly a rarity. This place really takes customer service to another level. FYI Asia is BYOB. Asia is not open on Sundays.
