The food itself was pretty good given its lack of heat but it's never fun to spend a decent amount of money on food and have it show up cold. Asia Wok is my go-to Chinese delivery place. They are fast, cheap, and friendly. What more can you want from a Chinese restaurant? I'm a native New Yorker and crazy picky about my Chinese delivery, but Asia Wok is the best I've found that delivers to Brookline. I love everything I order from there- the egg rolls, the dumplings (or "peking ravioli" as they call them), mu shu, chow fun, steamed chicken with ginger and peppers. "Meh" is definitely the right word to describe Asia Wok. We've been ordering from them occasionally for the past year, and although delivery tends to be extremely quick, their ability to get orders right is lacking. They do a special on Foodler / GrubHub where you can get a free can of soda with your order and consistently send you Coke, no matter what you select. As Diet Coke drinkers, we quickly became irritated. In addition, this chinese place seems to not understand what a hot mustard cup is, despite us physically walking there several times (only 2 blocks away) and getting one right from the front desk person. Let me preface my four-star rating with this...for Allston it actually deserves five-stars, BUT because there are so many amazing places in Chinatown....less than five miles away, I had to give it four. I have tried a lot of their entrees, all have been delicious, but my absolute favorite is actually the steamed chicken with mixed veggies and garlic sauce on the side. I always ask them to make it a dinner combo, they throw in an egg roll and tons of steamed white rice. You can definitely get friend, but I find their white rice is AMAZING. The portions are huge, I can literally make three meals out of this alone all for under $10! Plus a lot of places won't let you make a combo out of this, so they get serious props for that too. Now my secret obsession are the Peking Ravioli. UNBELIEVABLE. I have to admit there are times when I've almost eaten all of them, not feeling guilty by telling myself I was good by ordering the steamed chicken. You MUST get them fried. This is my fiance's and my go-to Chinese delivery place. They are incredibly fast and organized -- never an incorrect order, and that's with us ordering 3-4 times a month for a few years. I don't think I've ever had to wait more than 25 minutes for food to arrive. I have definitely had better Chinese food, but not at these prices and not with such fast, reliable delivery. Not every dish is amazing, but if you're willing to experiment until you find your regular dishes, you'll end up pleased. Favorite dishes are the Americanized staples: crab rangoon, egg rolls, General Gao's chicken, chicken with broccoli, etc. I also love the Yu Hsiang tofu and the Peking meat sauce noodles. read more

This place is pretty good. It doesn't surprise me that the reviews are mixed but let's be clear, this place isn't so much dirty as it is outdated. The decor is laughable but most people aren't eating there so who cares (plus that's not the best area of Allston so let's be realistic about what that place should look like). I've been eating there for a few years now and I live down the street from Golden Temple (which I think is overpriced and mediocre). I almost always get the chicken and broccoli dinner which in addition to a generous portion of chicken and broccoli also comes with a huge portion of PF rice, which I also think is very good. I think their beef teriyaki is up there with the best of them and their hot and sour soup is very good as well. I also agree with the other reviews that their service is pretty good for the most part. I usually get delivery and never have a problem (usually takes ~45 minutes but that includes a good 10 min of city driving). Prices are reasonable for the city as well. Final note: I tried the peking ravioli on a reviewers suggestion. I thought they sucked. Mind you they were legit burnt, but even if they weren't I don't think I would have been happy with them. I ate half of one and fed the rest to my garbage disposal. Readers, get the beef teriyaki. You can thank me later. read more

The fifth star is for the incredible service (everything ready in 30 mins on Christmas and calling at 5:15) and the genuine kindness of the woman taking orders over the phone. Got general gaos with white meat, Kung pao shrimp, chix lo mein, roast pork fried rice, sautéed string beans, pan fried pork dumplings, boneless spare ribs, moo shu chicken and wonton soup. Asia wok is the best chinese in Allston! Their wonton soup is the best I've ever had, and I also love their beef teriyaki (very tender, flavorful, not a lot of fat). The outside doesn't look like much, but the food is really really good. Their delivery through external sites (like Foodler or Grubhub) is awful, but if you call them directly, you will get your food quickly, and it will be hot, especially if you live nearby. Honestly, I moved to Newton a few years ago, and I drive to Asia Wok to get Chinese because nothing else can compare. Give it a shot, you might be surprised. read more

It was okay. I ordered General Gaus chicken with fried rice and egg roll. Your classic "I'm hungry, fill me now" Chinese takeaway/delivery meal. It showed up very quickly and accurately and was hot. But it was not HOT. It was sweet and exceptionally unspicy. I realize this dish runs a range from 0 hotness to about 2-1/2 out of 5 depending the recipe, but this was just bland. I tasted like strained apricot sweet sauce was used, and the breading was too heavy so it had no crispiness to it at all. The fried rice was saltier than I'm used to, though the egg roll was quite good and cooked perfectly. They are close to my house, but I really didn't have much of a strong feeling one way or the other for the food. This was my only order and I've moved on to other Chinese delivery near me. If I could, I'd give it 2-1/2 stars, and I thought the price was a bit high, since there was not really that much chicken and not much veggies with it. Ordered takeout lunch from here today. It was so-so. Granted, my friend and I ordered possibly the least adventurous items on any Chinese menu: orange chicken and General Tso's. Basically we both got a big portion of rice and not very much meat. However, at $5.60 each I didn't feel cheated. One problem was that they didn't label our orders, and the two things we ordered look kind of similar. We ended up halfway through our meal before we realized that we were eating each other's order. I typically only have food delivered to my place in Brighton. Always delivered on time with correct order. Prices are reasonable and portions are large. Love the crab rangoons and beef teriyaki and shrimp with snow peas. Menu is huge. If you can't find something you like, then you don't like Chinese food! Also when ordering through foodler they have coupons for free stuff for orders over $20 -$25 -$30 etc... The food is good. Let's face it, this is not health food. But they do have some healthier options on their menu. Most popular is the pu-pu platter so you can OD on Chinese food for a couple of days. I order through foodler and have never had a problem. They only get 1 star as that is the minimum. However, this place has several issues. First, it took over 2 hours to arrive and we are less than a ten minute drive from them in traffic. Our food arrived cold and was also not what we ordered; the scallops in garlic sauce had no scallops. Then, when we called the restaurant to request a refund they refused to give us one and the guy yelled at us over the phone. A girl eventually called back wanting to give us a "15% off" credit. However, with their poor customer service, awful delivery times, and shitty food we will not be ordering from them again. I placed an order through grubhub. I was expecting longer than average wait due to the weather. My expected wait time was an hour and a half which I was fine to wait for. My anticipated delivery time came and left...I tried calling the restaurant 5 times for an update and I was hung up on twice and the other times no one picked up. I finally called grubhub to cancel the order. They happily called the restaurant for us. For some reason they decided to pick up for grubhub and not me. Our wait time had been extended by TWO hours! Initially, I was really excited, as the container of food was ridiculously heavy. Unfortunately, when I got home, I discovered why. There was an absolutely gigantic pile of fried rice that was easily over twice the size you would get elsewhere, and the order of spicy shrimp in garlic sauce was tiny. The food was more-or-less average Chinese takeout, though the shrimp tasted a bit overcooked. Thankfully, the egg roll came in a separate bag, so it was still dry and a little crispy. The good news is Asia Wok is really inexpensive, and they have lunch and dinner specials everyday. Compare this to many places that limit lunch specials to weekdays, or that force you to buy a dinner portion and pay for extras like rice and the egg roll. read more

Sesame Chicken w/ Pork Fried Rice and an Egg Roll for $8 bucks and a large order of Crab Rangoons for $6 is extremely satisfying.
