Went to Atlantic City for a marathon. Chinese food is my friend's running routine for carb loading. Could not find any authentic Chinese food in Atlantic city and my friend found this place. Did not expect much as it was empty but one table. The server spoke Cantonese and was super helpful to all of our many needs. The food was authentic and good. We visited our friend over the weekend and came here for dim sum and their food was pretty decent considering the location. My friend said there aren't many asian restaurants nearby so to have this gem in this area is certainly something to appreciate and treasure. When we walked in, the space was huge. Their tables/seat weren't all cramped together so there was plenty of space sit and feel comfortable. They gave us a menu with pictures so we can just order from it. Though I would have liked that they wrote down what those dishes were as some of the pics were hard to tell what's what. As for the dim sum, I enjoyed it. It wasn't food and experience wasn't extraordinary but good enough for me to enjoy my meal. read more

The carts did not come around as much as they could've, it took a while for someone to come & actually take our drinks orders. Most of the staff spoke very little English. We waited a long time for someone to inquire on our food order with the exception of the Tripe!!! While many Asian people who came in after us got drink & food!!! The owner was very pleasant & tried to help. He noticed we were waiting and came over to take our order. to him. If you're looking for a place that makes you feel right at home, you should stick to your local hoagie shop. There's plenty of English speaking staff at this restaurant and ordering is easy. The food quality is exceptional compared to the typical strip mall Chinese takeout place. We had a large party and shared many dishes and while they ranged from just ok to great, everything seemed authentic and came out of the kitchen quickly despite it being a packed dining room. Those complaining of poor service clearly should dine at higher end restaurants exclusively. The service was very adequate for a very inexpensive meal. read more

This is a great place to find some dim sum and authentic Chinese food. Also, dim sum for 4 grown adults came out to around just $21 before tip! We had about 5-6 dishes too. The staff is pretty decent. With dim sum, it just depends who walks by. The food though is authentic and amazing. I love coming here for dim sum in the mornings. We have also ordered other dishes off the regular menu and it's pretty darn good. But be ready to speak Cantonese or bring someone who does. It'll make the experience that much better! read more

This will be the last visit for me to ASR. Nothing has changed since my last visit, except for the bad experience with an order of dim sum pork riblet's in black bean sauce that had a really bad taste. Admittedly any restaurant can have a off night or a bad dish but this added to my list of complaints made it easy for me to drop the restaurant down to a one star rating. Other slight differences were that the carts seemed to have even less of a variety of dim sum than on past visits, and even less frequent trips passed the dining tables. We've been here several times for dim sum and it is decent a majority of the time. It's the nearest place to Cape May for dim sum and we enjoy it for the most part. This place definitely makes the best shrimp dumplings (har gow) in town. The tripe is tender and full of ginger which we love. The greens here are seasoned well. Finally gave them a try for dinner and service is still bad and food was again sub par. Once I had a fly in my dish, the manager just refunded the dish, no apologies of any kind. I have definitely tried better...but it's the best thing close by (Atlantic City wise...). I love dim sum and I love trying out new places, so my friends and I came here for a friend's reunion thing. We were a group of about 10 people and it's definitely a large enough place to accommodate a large party. If you have never tried dim sum before, it's basically a Chinese brunch full of small dishes (similar to tapas) that you order from carts. So you'll sit at a table and the servers will go around the whole restaurants table to table with a cart and you point out what you want, then they'll record it on a piece of paper at your table and at the end they tally up the paper at your table and that's how much you pay +tip. It's very inexpensive, usually about $2-4 per dish. Most of the things that you'll see are steamed pork/shrimp or chicken feet/pig hock. It's odd in a western point of view, but everything is seasoned well usually. This place didn't catch my interest and I would only go if people wanted to go. I wouldn't recommend this place as my first choice for dim sum unless it was the only place to go since it accommodates such large amounts of people. Honestly if it's your first time trying dim sum, it's OKAY to go to, but if you're looking for a authentic top of the line place, this is NOT the place to go to. The servers are nice though, but there's nothing fantastic that I remember. read more

If you are unfamiliar with the Asian market you most likely won't even no its back there . The service isn't great and it's not very groomed but the food is Authentic and good . -3.5 STARS- I come here quite often with my friends and family since it's very close to my house. They stop serving dim sum around 3:30pm. The flavors of the food here is pretty good, although sometimes it can be a miss. Dim sum is pretty good and so are the dishes. The service here is okay, not great but not bad. Many of the servers don't speak any English at all. You'll come across two or three that speak it well enough to understand you, but everyone is very nice. Price is actually pretty inexpensive. Lobster is usually cheap. There's no other dim sum place around the area that I know about. Be aware of people begging for change in the parking lot- just walk quickly into the restaurant. read more

We come here because there aren't many other options around--good Chinese cuisine around the South Jersey area is lacking...big time. Some dinner dishes are over priced, although they do have a Lobster special that's a good deal. Also, there are private rooms with tv & karaoke available. You can BYOB. Dim sum here is not favorable-- slow and not tasty (it got worse over the years, especially when switching owners...used to be called Joy Luck Palace). For dim sum, they charge you for tea... come on, really!?! Did I mention I'm a service snob? Most of the servers are good at what they do and are attentive. If your food is slow, then it's probably the chefs in the back, not the servers. Although I like most of the servers, I will not defend this one lady. What I found disgusting to the MAX was that she did NOT wash her hands WITH SOAP after using the facilities...I saw. Was it because there wasn't a EMPLOYEES MUST WASH HANDS sign??? I think not. My brother and I wanted to get chinese food and because I was in the neighborhood I decided to get takeout from the Asian City Restaurant. What a mistake. I tried to order from the gentleman who was at the counter and, although he seemed like a nice enough guy, he didn't speak any english. It took me several attempts to make my order and when I got it home it was wrong. My brother ate his food but afterwards said that it may have actually been cat. I took one bite of my dish and threw it in the trash. The vegetables were overcooked and soggy and the chicken was disgusting. The rice was also inedible. What a disappointment. read more

One of the few choices for dim sum in the South Jersey area. They have all of your usual choices in the carts (shu mai, shrimp dumplings, shrimp wrapped in rice noodle). The quality, however, is a little iffy. None of the plates that came out from the carts were hot, room temperature at best. The only dishes that were hot were the ones that we had to order. I do give them props for their X.O. turnip cake. Turnip cake cut into cubes and fried, then stir fried with x.o. sauce. I've never seen this dish made anywhere else (NY, Philly, or toronto). The service was alright. Difficult to communicate with servers if you didn't speak a form of chinese. My water was refilled once without asking, I asked for water about 6 times because dim sum is loaded with all that tasty MSG. I've had dim sum all my life and have a passion for finding great places for it. It is rare that I come across a place that does every dim sum item well and this place did just that. My whole family was impressed , along with my extremely picky father, who's the best cook I know. While they may not have every single dim sum item available, what they do have is extremely well done. From beef tripes to spare ribs and shrimp dumplings to sesame buns, everything was amazing. The only tiny gripe was the lack of plentiful dim carts flowing around. There weren't that many and this is likely due to lack of business so I'll accept it. But how is this kind of quality available in southern NJ?? I can not understand why there was not a line out the door for their dim sum. Definitely coming back here! read more
