If I could i would go 3.5 stars. Nothing special about this place. Not putting it down, just your prototypical strip mall chinese food with all the usual suspects. Generals chicken, lomein, egg rolls etc. Some of these places can actually be bad but for the most part the recipe works and youd be hard pressed to tell the difference one from the other in a taste test. Now on to the high points. Lunch specials are under 6 bucks! Lunch specials are also available 11-3 every day of the week. Portions are large. I usually get mongolian beef. About half-way through I discovered A HAIR in my food! I almost vomited. God knows what kind of germs or disease I could get. The customer service is horrible. They had all the chairs up and wet floors, no one greeted us. I ask if they can help bring the chairs down so we can sit bc we were just standing there, the reaction was so rude, eyes rolled and all. I'm in shock! Visiting NC everyone has been so friendly, but the cashier seemed miserable, it was to the point I ask if I should take business else where, that a customer gave us salad because he felt bad. Flavorful food and accurate orders with a confusing menu ordering system. The menu has a variety of options to choose from however the online ordering system is repetitive with differing prices (for similar items) and randomly selected sides. For instance, sometimes you can select brown rice as a side while other times you cannot even for similar or most expensive items. Also the description does not always line up with what the item actually is. I ordered vegetable chow mein. The vegetables tasted great and the portion of vegetables was very large, however, the menu said that the noodles were stir fried when they are actually deep fried crispy noodles. Perhaps a picture next to the menu items would make the menu options clearer and an option to choose from a list of sides that is the same for each of the combination plates would be easier. Not good. We ordered General Tsao's Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, and Moo Shu Pork. I didn't try the General Tsao's but my husband said it was "like if a convenience store sold Chinese food, it was like that." The Kung Pao Chicken was just okay, the best thing about it was the spice. It had a burned flavor to it, like something had been burned on the grill or wok and it wasn't cleaned. The fried rice that came with it was just rice with soy sauce. Not fried, no vegetables in it, no egg, nothing. The Moo Shu Pork also tasted burned and the quality of the pork was gross. Lots of fat and gristle. It was kind of gross eating a meal and having to spit out so much of the meat. And as others have mentioned, the egg rolls are very heavy on black pepper. Why??? This is my "go-to" Chinese food delivery restaurant. I love their Egg Foo Young SO MUCH and the chicken for the sweet and sour dish comes to you without the sauce so it doesn't get soggy which is great. Honestly? I usually just eat the chicken bites without the sauce. It's like upscale chicken nuggets/bites and it's so tasty and delivered fast so there food is still hot. The Lo Mein can't be beat either. For apps, my usual is the Crab Rangoon (unbelievably good), Teriyaki Chicken sticks and the salt and pepper calamari. Decent, family owned Chinese takeout with a great $5.25 lunch menu! I got the Hunan shrimp and was pleasantly surprised that it had a distinct sauce flavor and, most importantly in my opinion, came with a satisfactory number of shrimp pieces. This was also pretty consistent among other people in my party who bought other proteins off the lunch menu. Aside from the lunch menu, the people in my party who got the hibachi were also very satisfied. Sure, at first glace it's just another chinese place in a shopping center... but it absolutely is not, and I have high standards for these things. A lot of these sort of places will use MSG in their food and whatnot, but Asian Garden is fresh fresh fresh! There are several absolutely delicious and unique chef specials which are worth the seemingly extra expense compared to combination options, though in my experience those have been satisfying as well. Unfortunately, the menu and employees don't always make it clear what each dish consists of, so don't be afraid to ask about the ingredients or how it's prepared. Sometimes they fry the calamari, sometimes it is grilled. Sometimes there are certain veggies with a dish, then two weeks later the ingredients change. Each chef will prepare each dish differently, but you can rest assured they will make anything the way you like it upon request. My all time favorite thing to get here is the Thai Curry shrimp with added beans sprouts and eggplant. I'm not a fan of green peppers and they always agree to switch them for eggplant for free when I ask. The white sauce here costs extra but it's a really delicious compliment to the rice and egg rolls. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone come here to satisfy an Asian food craving. My boyfriend and I have tried a variety of different meals from them now and we are always impressed. It is one of the better "fast" Asian places in the area. The food is fresh and not overly greasy. It has flavor and we do not have to douse the food or rice in a variety of sauces to spice it up. We tried their Pad Thai for the first time, while I thought it was good my boyfriend did not think it was spicy enough. Next we will just ask if they can make it a little spicier. This was the first time I ordered from here, and up until the end I was pretty satisfied. The food was hot and spicy and the egg roll was delicious. I was finishing off the rice and remainder of the sauce when it crunched into a small piece - and a bitter explosion was in my mouth. I was able to spit most of it out and upon looking it was a small insect carapace / body piece (ant? Roach?). I actually ended up swallowing some of it and I hope I do not get sick from any germs. TERRIBLE TERRIBLE attitude by owner towards a regular weekly customer, for over 2 years. They made a mistake on my order and had it correct in writing on the sales receipt. When I got home and called them and told them the order was wrong, they told me they wanted me to drive back to their store for corrected order. They would not deliver correct meal to me. Ordered the Spicy Basil Chicken lunch special. When I opened it back at the office a strong burnt odor permeated the office and hallway. Nice for my co-workers I'm sure. I should have taken a picture but was in a slight panic I caused this odor in the office. It was clearly burned and had black residue all over the chicken and vegetables. I closed it up as soon as I could and trashed it, totally embarrassed that I was the source of all the complaints about the odor. I cannot believe they actually served that. I am originally from Boston and I have had a lot of decent Chinese, both Americanized and real Chinese Cuisine, so if you are looking for an awesome spot to get some FAIRLY PRICED good food, Asian Garden is definitely the place. This was only my wife and I's first try here (we ordered takeout), but we both loved it. The Mongolian beef was fresh, cooked just right, tender, and had a mildly sweet yet savory flavor. The Rice fried just right, was not dry or greasy, and had awesome flavor even without pork mixed in. The Crab Rangoons were light and fluffy, with a very thin, crispy, and fried to perfection wonton wrap. The Chicken Teriyaki was so juicy and so tender that we cleaned the sticks off like dogs. The egg rolls were massive, but not without flavor, a perfect combination of egg wrap shell and filling, with a nice crunchy exterior and a harty vegetable interior. The restaurant delivers, and they are always quick and very professional.
