Asian Mint is an OK place if your looking for some Thai food. Overall, the food is okay. The portions are quite small compared to other places, and despite the price, the flavor isn't significantly better. I've had the Massaman curry there which has the signature peanut flavor but not much else besides that. My curry didn't have much chicken or vegetables and the accompanying rice was too small given the quantity of curry. I also had the Thai tea, which was very average. Overall, the Mint is an OK place, but if you're looking for Thai food that tastes better and is cheaper, I'd go elsewhere. read more

I was disappointed, just kidding, I was really really disappointed. We came in, it was pretty full but 2 open tables. One table near the restroom (2 seats) and the other near the door that could seat 4. We were seated near the restroom. We asked of we could move to the other table because obviously the location is not a good location and the seat was too small for my SO. We were then told the other only open table was reserved. Ok no problem, but then 5 minutes later, 2 white businessmen walked in and took a seat at the remaining table that could seat 4. Like really? THEY DIDN'T EVEN RESERVE THEM, and you seat them there and blatantly lie to my SO and I to our faces?? How rude, I feel like we were discriminated. ok now, let's get on to the food. We got the chicken satay, that was pretty fresh. However, came to the main entre. I got the orange chicken...THE SAUCE WAS LIKE WATER. I don't understand the logic for fried chicken + water sauce. I would like to start off by saying the red curry is amazing. I've been addicted to curry as of late and give theirs 5 stars. It is full of flavor and has many elements that make it pop. I also got the pad see ew which was simple and satisfying. All were great entrees that were sadly not my last bites of my dinner. Honestly so gross. The teriyaki chicken had no sauce. It was just chicken in water. Looked like a microwave meal. The fried rice was flavorless and the pad Thai mealy. I felt very disrespected and discriminated against as the manager sat two parties and was about to sit the third party that came in after us. We put our name in for two people and he said "it'll be five minutes" then a party bigger than mine came in and sat them right away, soon after them another party of three came in and he also sat them, as the third party came in with also more people than ours I decided to walk away. SO RUDE. I'm sorry I thought this was a first come first serve kind of business. Their food may be average good but it is not the only Asian fusion in Dallas and I would rather sit down in a whole on the wall yummy place with great customer service than at this snob with horrible customer service place. My brother loves spicy Pan-Asian cuisine and I hate driving more than five minutes to get anywhere, so going to The Asian Mint at 75 and Forest was always a battle of ideologies between the two of us. Of course, once I got there, I always enjoyed the food. I just didn't see the point of driving that far for ANYTHING. My rule is simple -- for me to travel north of 635, west of 35 or east of White Rock Lake, there must be a member of my immediate family that is deathly ill or in mortal danger. To even approach those self-imposed boundaries is to question values that are most important to me. Some might say I'm missing out on stuff, but cmon... suburbia is a cultural vacuum on every level. Sprawling mcmansions and cheesy apartments punctuated by chain restaurants and retail tied together by miles of slabs of concrete just don't appeal to my rebellious, musician nature. I say that I'd sooner gouge my eyes out then move there, and yet my fiancee is already talking about having kids and getting large dogs... so it might not be that long before I'm reviewing Friday's #2003 or Macaroni Grille #342. 5 stars because they have comfy high chairs for my triplets and extra-wide parking spaces for my double-decker SUV. My point is that Evan (my brother) and I almost caused a traffic accident when we saw the slightly-different-named restaurant's sign in the Highland Park Shopping Center -- almost directly across the street from my place. We both stared slack-jawed at the new sign and the "coming soon" banner displayed in the windows as our car veered into oncoming traffic and almost hit a rich, blonde family of 6 on a Sunday drive in their Mercedes SUV, swerving to miss at the last second. We both instantly knew what this would mean. First of all, Evan would be eating there most nights of the week. And now I could finally enjoy high-quality Pan-Asian just walking distance from my condo! Finally a Mint restaurant on which we could both agree! When we first entered, we noticed the slick decoration. They definitely upped the ante on style from the other location -- they uptown-ized it. The theme is cool blue rather than minty green like the other location. There are lots of stylish lighting and decor -- very modern. There is a tiny bar at the front and a narrow dining room that extends back to the kitchen. Unlike the other Mint, there is no sushi bar at this location. They have a couple of sushi-esque appetizers like tuna tartare and a spicy crab roll, but there is no separate sushi menu here. That was a little disappointing, but the fact that the rolls we did have were delicious made up for it in a hurry. We also tried the Mint sampler, which had veggie rolls, chicken satay and veggie dumplings. It came with three tasty sauces and some attractive presentation. Everything was a hit. We also tried the mojito and green tea tini off their drink menu. They were very smooth and refreshing. I think in terms of beverages and even food, The Mint is the Asian equivalent of La Duni, which is very high praise. Their cocktail list is extensive and lower-priced than La Duni -- a big plus and something to remember since they're now almost right next door to each other. Apparently, The Mint is also known for its desserts and coffee (also like La Duni), but I've never tried them, so I can't vouch. The menu was essentially the same as the other location and the food mirrored the high quality I've come to expect. I had the Red Thai Curry and Evan had the Pad Kee Mow. My fiancee and he also had the Spicy Tom Yum soup, which they loved. The service was attentive and friendly. Also -- they stress that the menu is almost entirely gluten-free, so if you, like my fiancee, have been "diagnosed" with a wheat allergy, you can eat here without your throat swelling up and dying. Wait, what's that you say? That's not what happens when you eat wheat? You say that you *think* it just makes you mildly puffy and fat-looking? Which doctor diagnosed you with this again? Oh, you just read about it in Cosmo and think that it might apply to you -- oh ok. See, my mother is allergic to shellfish -- if she eats it, she will asphyxiate and die. THAT'S what happens when you're allergic to something, you faker. Anyway -- gluten free, so all you trendy fad dieters can rejoice. BOTTOM LINE: I predict success for The Mint! They appropriately anticipated the vibe that uptowners expect when they stroll into a new restaurant. The drink menu is fun and will be enough to pull you back on its own, but on top of that they have wonderful food and affordable prices (I don't think there is an entree above $20 and most fall in the $12-$16 range). This restaurant is asian fusion with a twist. My Mexi Tini seemed like it belonged down the street but it packed a whallop and tasted perfect. Lots of beer and wine options plus a creative cocktail menu. My friend had a honey vodka drink. I wanted to distract her and switch drinks. Try the fresh, tasty lettuce wraps. It's funny, because until I talked to Nicky at the Savor Dallas booth, I hadn't even noticed on my first visit to the "new Mint" that the menu was different; they format it in the exact same way, so my eyes just naturally gravitated to my old standbys--edamame and either tom kha (coconut) soup or pad kee mow. I would recommend they change the menu so people used to Asian Mint notice all the fun and different offerings "new Mint" has. I noticed it when I went this weekend, and didn't try any of them, but they did sound good (of course I can't remember any of them now). I love how chic this place is...the blue is very calming, even though all the decor crammed into the fairly tiny space makes Angela G. claustrophobic (I can kinda see it). I tend to crave this place more for lunch than dinner, so most likely I will continue to frequent the Forest location more, but this is another great option, especially for friends in town that you want a trendy spot that's not too overcrowded with dbags, and not too expensive. I just tend to forget about it sometimes. I must add of course, they have green tea ice cream cake at this location too, and it's still super delicious--they even feature the recipe in a desserts of Dallas cookbook that they sell at the bar for 16 bucks. Trend-a-licious. Like the Fergie song, but more about food and white space and mod design, and less about lady lumps. I am always wary of places that look like 2008 trying to be 1960s space lounges. If it's a bar, it's guaranteed to be douche-y. If it's food, expect funky-shaped white plates, small servings, and pretty presentation. Personally, I like to be comfortable when I eat--and plastic white chairs with blue lighting and mirrored walls do not make me feel comfortable. They make me feel like I'm on drugs. ANYWAYS. Enough of this design tangent. On to the food. The steamed dumplings ($6.95) were served in an amazing spicy chili sauce. The hot sake ($8) was served in a glass bottle that was too hot to pick up, so it made pouring difficult. I almost asked for a straw. Not cool. The entrees were beautifully prepared and tasted fresh. It also tasted clean, if that makes sense. The yellow curry (10.95) was super coconut creamy. The pad thai (12.95) tasted a little fancy. (I like my noodles from street vendors if given the option.) The Tom Kha soup was also off da chain. So why three stars, you ask? Well, I thought it was a tad 'spensive. Personally, I prefer less slick spaces with uglier dishware for a cheaper price. I just see some guy from Uptown named Derek taking a girl here for a first date. I would like to give it 3.5 stars, but that is not an option, which always annoys me. It's probably not what you expect. I have to start with the interior design- because that was definitely not what I expected. Check out the ultra modern style- mirror sculpture and monochromatic color pieces on the walls. Check out the ceiling. I like restaurants that offer these half-booth half table seating arrangements. Though at lunchtime this place is busy and sometimes it means awkwardly squeezing past someone to slide into your chair. The staff here are incredibly nice- the service is impeccable. But the reason you might come back repeatedly is the food. It's "fusiony" as are many Asian restaurants around town, and in this case it's a good thing, because there is something for everyone. Finish your dish, and have some green tea ice cream or a cappuccino. They have Illy brand espresso drinks, which is what Neiman Marcus uses too- it's smooth! read more

Super cute place, super yum food. :) I really like this place. Just from the outside you definitely wouldn't expect their decor, but this place is cute and trendy without trying too hard. You can come in and have a nice meal, and it's a good date place. I went here for the second time with my family the other day and we loved it!! We used to come to this place all the time when it was another Thai restaurant and we were sad that it closed, but this place def makes up for it! They have daily martini specials for $7 and they're really yummy. It's a bit on the pricier side for Thai food, but you pay for the decor and the service. I promise it's worth it. The Pad Thai is really good, and the simple Chicken Fried Rice is absolutely delicious and really flavorful... We ordered the red curry which came with a side of white rice and it was really good! Very healthy and the vegetables were delicious. The Thai Crispy Sea Bass is also really good and comes with lots of veggies too, perfectly cooked. I definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a little neighborhood gem. Beware, it is pretty cramped inside, but it adds to the cozy atmosphere. Honestly, I haven't been to many Thai/ Asian- fusion restaurants in the Dallas area. I am not very picky, because I enjoy both spicy and sweet flavors when it comes to Thai food. So I decided to come here with my girlfriends after reading couple of reviews. We booked our table over the phone. It is a good spot for brunch and lunch. I love the bright interiors because it gives a very brunch/ bar/ meeting place kinda vibe. It wasn't very crowded for a Sunday. Our server was fast and helpful. We had ordered: Steamed dumplings as Appetizer, Red Curry with Tofu,Green Basil Fried Rice, Sriracha Chicken and Green Tea cake. Dumplings were okay, the sauce was pretty mild and the vegetable stuffing was just the right quantity. Red curry was a hit!! I was so hungry and thought I would have to order another dish, but I couldn't even finish the red curry. Probably, all that coconut made it heavy and yummy. Only problem, wish they had diced the veggies and tofu in the curry instead of giving long slices. Or maybe they could give a soup spoon instead of regular spoon. Basil fried rice is always my first choice (w/o egg), but my friend ordered it with egg. I'm so glad I tasted her fried rice. I normally feel weird when they put shredded egg in any fried rice. Surprisingly, this one tasted and smelled delicious. All the flavors were well-balanced. Sriracha chicken did look like it had sriracha in it. The menu showed two hot chillies next to the item, but it wasn't that spicy. The Signature Green Tea Ice Cream Cake was epic!!! I haven't tasted an authentic green tea flavor in a very long time. Loved the green tea ice cream layer in the middle. The whipped cream on the top was also light and creamy. Easily shared among 3 people. For drinks we ordered: Iced Melon Green Tea, which didn't really taste like melon, it was more like the water was infused with melon. LOVE the Mint! I didn't expect such a swanky little place in a shopping center. The cool blue theme lends itself to a younger, hip crowd. It really compliments the green theme they have going at their other location but done in a less crafty DIY way. Our food was absolutely delicious! Even better than the other location. We started off with Tuna Nachos- thanks to another Yelper's review. They were very tasty- crispy won ton style nachos topped with raw tuna, seaweed salad, and some other garnishes and various sauces. The cool tuna and crunchy chip were a great combination. But, I must warn- it was very spicy to me! I was eating off my s.o.'s plate- he got the miso glazed sea bass. OMG it melted in my mouth and the sauce was refreshingly light yet satisfying. I'm getting this next time! He was eating off my plate, as well. I got the basil noodles- holy cow, better than any others I've had before! We shared a green tea ice cream for dessert- of course that's hard to screw up! Our service was fantastic. We mentioned having only been to the other location and they treated us like royalty! Best of all, we got $25 off our bill thanks to a $1 restaraunt.com certificate I had purchased! 5 stars well deserved and kudos for converting me into a Pad Thai lover. Every Pad Thai I've had before The Mint has been too gummy, too sweet, too bland, or just too WTF did I just pay for? BLUE. And if it's not blue it's charcoal all over the walls, ceiling, seats, different shades and hues of these neutral colors. I almost feel like I'm dining in a square kaleidoscope, just swimming in all this blue. Lounge music fits with the theme they're going for. I like it, it's different. A little extreme if you ask me. Pleasant service. The young Asian lady was patient and got our orders correct. Never once did we needed to wait for refills on drinks. Overall pleasant experience and the prices are reasonable. My Pad Thai with fat, succulent shrimp and a generous portion of chicken breast was about $13. I LOVED, LoVED my dish and thought they used all the traditional ingredients well. read more

I've been to two Asian Mint locations and have enjoyed them both. The food is tasty, well presented, and it is moderately priced. On both visits we tried an array of items on the menu and were not disappointed. One of these visits was to pick up to go food. Love the fact that you can order online. Would be even more awesome if they had an app. The staff were friendly at both locations. My only complaint about the one on oak lawn is the parking. It's limited and parking in the back at night has never made me feel safe. Overall, we will be back. read more

My only complaints: 1) 1/2 bowl of rice for a full bowl of curry (curry-rice ratio is TOO MUCH) and 2) meat and curry are cooked separately, then added together (no meat flavor in the curry) (-0.5 star). Green Curry: SWAMP OF GREEN SAVOURY, SWEET & SPICY. Each drop of Green Curry coats your taste buds with fragrant vegetables (bamboo, red bell pepper, mint, eggplant, white onion), curry seasoning, and sweet, decadent coconut milk. You taste the coconut milk consistently in the background with the fragrant vegetables providing their spices and flavors. Overall, the flavor is very clean and does not linger or saturate your taste buds for too long. Just long enough for them to be entertained until your next bite. Yellow Curry: LAKE OF CURRY. Your typical Yellow Curry is on the spectrum between bright yellow to dark brown; this one has a dark mustard/tan color. It consists of curry powder, carrot, white onion, and coconut milk. What is noteworthy is the strong curry flavor that outcompetes the decadent coconut milk that soothes the tongue and the carrot and white onion that cannot tame its flavor (-1 star). As a result, the Yellow Curry is more intense in curry flavor and lingers on your tongue. It is also sweeter than the Green Curry. All in all, you only taste the intense curry spices and sweetness that overpower the other elements of the dish, but not the complexities of the combined ingredients. Pad See Ew: MOUTHFULS OF "WOK HAY" Before you say "Ew" and become preoccupied with the "Ew" in Pad See Ew, you need to take a bite of this rice noodle dish. It consists of broccoli, bok choy, egg, wide rice noodle, and beef, all tossed in a wok. The noodles carry a deep caramel-savoury flavor as a result of "Wok Hay," a term referring to the heat imparted into a dish due to wok tossing at high cooking temperatures. Imagine layer upon layer of green tea cake & ice cream. In the end, you get the perfect architecture of a confectionery treat. Aside from the visually pleasing geometry, you get the natural flavors of green tea with each bite. The cake is sweet with the aroma of green tea, while avoiding the dry, roasted aftertaste of green tea that had been left brewing for too long. The ice cream has the same young and intense flavor of the cake and provides a refreshing coolness & chill. This green tea ice cream LITERALLY TASTES LIKE GREEN MILK TEA. It is not creamy per se, but quickly melts away like a sphere of milky shaved ice. I've always defaulted to Nandina's for Thai food, but have been looking for a place a little closer to where I live (West Village), and although I heard great things about this place, I never had the urge to go. I recently got a promo code for a $25 gift certificate for $2 (thank you restaurant.com!) to The Mint, and it was just the push I needed to try this place out. I can't resist a good deal (I feel so Asian). The atmosphere was (very) cozy and modern, but not overly pretentious (thumbs up). We were greeted slowly, but service seemed to be spot on once given attention. We started with the soft-shell with spicy mayo appetizer which just fills your mouth with warm, delicious, delight. If only it came with more than 4 pieces (boo!). I had the pad see ew while my friend had the pad kee mow. Traditional dishes that were full of flavor and did not disappoint. And the whole "let's jam as many people as we can into a tiny restaurant space and pretend like we're in New York" vibe adds that much more to the experience. You can do carry-out just as easily, but honestly, having to wait around at the front of the tiny space is sort of fun in its own right. Regardless, one of my favorites dishes is the Ginger Stir Fry. First off, this place gets a star for being open past 10 pm on a Saturday. I can't tell you how difficult it was to find some late night asian food this weekend when my boyfriend and I decided we were hungry at 9:30 pm. Since Mint was open, we decided to give it a try, and we couldn't be happier with the food we got. The place is tiny and has a trendy look and turquoise themed decor. Full bar as well, and a tv playing Iron Chef, which also earns them a star on the rating system. We got the pad thai and cashew pineapple shrimp fried rice, which both came out steaming hot and delicious. Both portions has tons of shrimp (5 in my rice!) and great flavor and were big enough that we had leftovers. (stars 3 and 4 for taste and portion size!) Let me also add that I've been to Thailand, so I can definitely judge Thai food, and this was good stuff. I will definitely return, and would love to try the yellow curry. read more

We arrived at prime time on a Thursday eve; it was busy but we were able to seated right away. Our server was rather slow getting to us, but once he did, he was fast and attentive all night long. My friend and I shared the mint platter appetizer, consisting of chicken satay, fried dumplings, and summer rolls. I enjoyed all three items, each providing an interesting contrast to the others. Satay was cooked just right, served with plenty of tasty peanut sauce. We ordered the orange chicken and the shrimp and chicken basil stir fry, each come with sides of jasmine rice. We enjoyed both entrees, nicely presented and reasonable sized portions for the money. the orange chicken had just the lightest breading on chunks of white breast meat. I ordered the stir fry medium hot, but it wasnt really hot enough for my liking. Will remember to order it hot and spicy the next time. The green tea ice cream cake finished the eve. One piece is plenty for two to share, and it was very flavorful, dense, and refreshing. I loved the thin layer of white icing, which had almost a marshmallow quality, but very light. I just ate my leftover take home from 2 days ago and I almost never eat leftovers -- that's how much I love The Mint. I have been eating here for years and it is one of my favorites. I really love all Asian food, but Japanese and Thai are my faves and The Mint is great! The restaurant is beautiful -- white and shades of blue -- and the lighting with the blue around makes everyone look really pretty at night, especially if you get stuck out in the center tables. Wear a white blouse and your eyes will sparkle, ladies! The staff is lovely and very happy to make any food to your liking -- spicy or not, etc. They also have lots of gluten free things on the menu for those who need that. The Mint is one of my favorite lunch spots (easy to get in and out within an hour and the shopping center has free valet) and I also love it for a pre-theatre dinner. Now on to the menu items I love: Tuna tartare app -- delish and slightly spicy Seaweed salad -- the best in town Edamame Sea bass Pad Thai -- with chicken and shrimp But I almost never go without ordering the Thai Red Curry with chicken! Omg it is fabulous -- not spicy, but the broth is so good I'd eat shoe leather soaking in it. I always ask them to only put in about half the amount of chicken they normally put in so I can have more broth and bamboo shoots and red bell pepper. I also like the green tea cake. My go-to here is here is the pad see ew, which is the best that I've had in Dallas. I also like that they have a lot of options available with glass noodles, which can ease your guilt if you're looking for a carb-conscious alternative. The restaurant is very small, so you may have to wait if you going during prime hours. Also, once you're seated it can feel a tad claustrophobic. That said, the decor is very clean-looking and trendy (lime green accent color), which I enjoyed. Not exactly homy, but a fun dining experience. read more

Went to The Mint yesterday for lunch with a bunch of old work friends. We had a party of 12 and it was easy for us to make a reservation and our food got to us VERY fast! When you're having lunch out on a workday, this is of the utmost importance! I ordered the basil fried rice with veggies and tofu. The portions are extremely generous - I could only finish half of my mountain of rice! The spice level was just right (you're given sriracha at the table if you want to kick it up a notch) and the veggies were fresh and cooked well. The tofu was a bit dry, but I like my tofu a bit on the dry side so I didn't mind. They have a ton of gluten free and veggie options on the menu (the gluten free options are clearly marked on the menu, wuddup!) and they have a good amount of variety. I believe everyone there enjoyed their meal! The decor is really modern and hip, the bright blue color of the interior gives you a cool and calming feeling - kind of like the effects of mint (get it??). The parking is a little precarious, but there's a lot on the back that doesn't fill up so fast, but can be hard to spot if you're not looking out for the signs. I give 4-stars for food and 2-stars for service... which averages to about a 3 star review. I thought the food was great. Everything we had contained tons of big and fresh veggies. The Tom Kha soup was excellent with huge mushrooms and baby corns floating in it. Yummm. I also had the Ginger Chicken which was fresh and tasty and light. However, I came in with a group of 5 on a Monday night. We had spent the entire day in a hospital and quite frankly were ready for some drinks. However, when we asked for more than one drink menu (they have a seemingly good selection of fun cocktails) our waitress quickly pointed out that they stopped serving at 9:30 pm. I don't know what time it was at the moment... but we got the message loud and clear (WE WANT TO GET YOU OUT OF HERE AS FAST AS POSSIBLE SO WE CAN GO HOME). Mood sufficiently ruined. Bill half the size it would have been if we would have been allowed to enjoy our sake in peace. Maybe this should be more of a take-out spot than an eat-in destination so you can avoid the rude staff. read more

I always forget about The Mint! It really is like a pretty, cozy, slightly hidden gem. I mean not slightly hidden... more like right under your nose. Anyway, I was here again this past weekend and i forgot how much I like this place. The service was very attentive from the minute we walked in. The place is very small, but they did an excellent job utilizing the room. Prices here are in line with Highland Park. Maybe a little high for Thai food (I'm talking like $2-$3 too high), so nothing outrageous. But all that aside, the food is delicious. This past visit I got the Green Basil fried rice. It was full of fresh vegetables and chicken. It also packed plenty of spice. I ordered it hot and it did not disappoint. Portions are very large, which is nice. I made two meals out of my dish. This would make a good date night spot if your looking for somewhere cozy. read more

I have been to The Mint's big brother, Asian Mint, many many times. I used to work close by and would go over there at least once a week for lunch. I was in the area for yoga last night and decided to stop on thru to get my absolute favorite dish...the pad woon sen. Thin rice noodles, veggies galore, chicken, bean sprouts. No tomatoes. It was truly delicious and I love the way they flavor it...not a lot of salt like at other Asian eateries. The décor in there is super trendy and cute too. Would be a great intimate spot to bring friends. Looks like they have lots of happy hour specials as well. Plus it's next door to Flywheel so you can go work out and then stuff your face.
