It tasted a lot like chicken broth to me and I was missing all the spices that are usually in a bowl of beef pho. But the portion size was really generous and there was a good amount of meat in the dish. I ordered take out from Asian noodles for a quick lunch, so I can't speak for service or a large portion of the menu. I was in and out quick with my to go order. I ordered some spring rolls and they were really plain. Just shredded lettuce, shrimp and noodles. I'm used to there being some meat and other veggies when I order from other restaurants, so these weren't my favorite. The peanut sauce was spicy, which was yummy. Cool find in Reno! After day tripping at the casinos in Reno and a fun day at Virginia City Historic District with Mom and hubby, not to mention that many restaurants closed early because of Memorial Day -and, no casino food, please- AND I've been eating steak all weekend... Before heading home I checked with Yelp to look for a nearby Chinese restaurant and lo and behold! there were a few good ones around but I chose this particular one because a few Yelp friends have rated this place 3-Stars and above... (plus, it's on the way home) LoL! While their menu had a variety of Chinese and Vietnamese food we all chose something from the lunch menu which was served all day, Mon to Fri. I had the Mongolian Beef which came with Hot and Sour soup, choice of fried rice or Chow Mein (I chose fried rice), and either 1 potsticker or 2 chicken wings (I got the chicken). The meal was delicious, just right. The chicken wings were crunchy, loved it! Their egg rolls were delicious too, freshly made and not soggy. We enjoyed our meals while watching the Western Conference Final Game 7 between the Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The restaurant isn't very big. There are plenty of choices to dine in this strip mall. Lots of parking. This could be another place we may become regulars for Chinese or Vietnamese cuisine here in Reno. Ordered the beef bamboo that came with a side of rice. Beef bamboo had lots of garlic, but yummy. Crispy chow mein (yummy, I like the crispy noodles were molded into its own bowl/plate, but it wasn't a deep bowl shape like some places where you dump the wet ingredients in and it tips over. It was like a flat crispy noodle plate with raised edges so when you pour the wet ingredients, it all stayed flat. I liked that they also included bamboo shoots in the chow mein. Also got fried rice, which was pretty good too, it had pieces of pork in it whereas some places put hardly any meat in their fried rice. INSIDE: Cool aquarium when you first walk in with a huge Oscar fish. The cashier is toward the middle of the restaurant to the right of the aquarium. Pretty big place, they have another seating section past the wall. OVERALL: Four stars for having good Asian food in Reno at decent prices, staff was attentive to everyone and staying busy. It was pretty busy during lunch on a weekday and we were lucky to grab one of the last few tables for our party of 6. We got busy on the appetizers right off the bat: * Spring Roll "Shrimp, rice noodles, vegetables wrapped in rice paper, served with peanut sauce or a special fish sauce." - Their version of peanut sauce is a lot better than most places. It's super creamy, like a good peanut butter. * Imperial Roll "Golden fried pork egg, 4 rolls. Served with a special sauce." ($5) - Their special sauce was that orange sour vinegar sauce. It's pretty good. Entrees: * #1. Rare steak, well-done flank, ft brisket, tendon and tripe (Small $5.95) - I went for the standard pho bowl. A bit expensive for a small, but it's Reno. Decent amount of noodles and meat too. They only gave one plate of condiments even though there were three orders of pho on the table. A bit stingy on that in my opinion. #46. Com Ga Hap Muoi Chien "Golden Steam Fried Chicken Vietnamese Style" ($8.50) - It sounded exciting for The Husband, although I think he was hoping for something else. The reviews don't lie. This place not only hits the spot, it's actually pretty tasty! The broth is clean and doesn't need to be doused in sauces. Staff is very friendly and the steamy hot bowls of heavenly noodle soup come out within minutes. If there's ever a wait, don't fret because they move quickly. It's surprisingly spacious and there's even a bar area next to the main dining area, which seems a little backwards to me because I often get pho when I'm recovering from a hangover...but I'm not complaining! But not a place that gives you the queasy stomach just walking by either. I ordered up the Pho rare steak. It hit the spot I wanted it to hit. Usually I put hot sauce, plumb sauce, fish sauce and sauce sauce all in my bowl. This time I first tried it plain. Meh...the flavors weren't loud enough. I dashed in some sriracha and some fish and it was perfect. My daughter got the pot stickers. Big doughy pillows with a VERY good meat/veg center. Too doughy for me, but the flavors were what I would expect. We used our Costco Member discount. In fact that was the whole reason we had decided to go in. The good rating is for the Vietnamese food. More like 3 stars for the restaurant as a whole. They have one of the best pho in reno. Southern Vietnamese style pho spot. I've also had Hot Pot here. It's okay. They have a large selection of different fish balls so you may not get the same kind when you ask for more. I got different fishballs everytime i marked fishball on the paper. I ended up pointing at the one i wanted more of. I wish they had more condiment choices for hotpot. You basically have hot sauce, plum sauce and more hot sauce and plum sauce in a different variation. They did NOT honor a discount with a costco card. Nothing yelled don't eat here, it was really just a vibe we both got...but we made the mistake of eating here anyways. We ended up going with what we normally get at these small Chinese places which for her is tofo pho and for me is generals chicken and fried rice. The food looked great coming out (even remembered to take a photo) but the pho was flavorless and my general chicken was basically breading dripping oil. My Fiancé even made the comment of the chicken looks like it's full of food coloring. The vegetarian pho that I got is packed with vegetables and tofu, including brussels sprouts, carrot slices, green beans and others delicious veggies. Their rice plate, I thought the portion was small compared to what I'm use to getting in the bay area. Always a fantastic meal here! They offer 10% off if you checkin here or have a Costco receipt. The food comes super quick and the restaurant is clean. Most recently, we got an order of spring rolls that were fresh and delicious. The peanut sauce is excellent, I like to think that my spring roll is really just a vessel for my peanut sauce. I got a #43, vermicelli noodles with lemongrass beef and loved it! Ingredients were fresh and tasty. My sister got a small #15, rare steak and it was great! The broth was super tasty and smelled sooooo good. My mom got a #48, vermicelli with pork and egg roll and she was really happy with it. I think we all only ate about half of our food so we have leftovers for tomorrow (yay!). Service was really good, there was another diner that was super obnoxious (drunk????) and they moved around him well and once he left we had a really lovely dining experience. The pho came out piping hot, not skimpy on the ingredients whatsoever...but the broth was missing that long cooked in spices goodness. Not bad though... The spring rolls were bland. I wasn't too impressed with those. The rice plate was decent. My complaint was that the pork was too sweet and so was the nuoc mam. Tone down the sugar a little and I think they would have a winner. Came here today with my parents and the first thing we walk into is a whole lot of attitude from the staff. Once they seated us , they seated us in front of the ticket window and we pretty much got the fill in of the drama of this restaurant. It seemed like the owner of the restaurant and the rest of the employees liked to talk about the customers who complained about the food or anyone who gave them a hard time and I know that because one of the ladies loudly said "she ordered that, she is stupid" And at that point I felt awkward just being there. Besides the interesting customer service vibe, the food was alright , the chicken in the chow mein was kind of bland and didn't have much taste. Very greasy but at the same time , expected (it's Chinese food) . I did not have complaints about my food and felt satisfied, but after hearing all the kitchen drama and discouraging words about their customers ... When I told them there was a bug. They asked if I saw the bug and it just flew in. I said no when I was stirring the noodles I saw the bug. It was a wired bug because I haven't seen it before. Lemon Grass Tofu was good with nice spices and favor. There is a hint of curry. It was loaded with onions. The only recommendation would be to serve with sauce or glaze on the side. When we entered, there wasn't that slow, dated tone you sometimes get at Asian restaurants; this place was busy, hopping, and smelling fantastic! My party of four was seated promptly, and we ordered the the fried salmon, chicken fried rice, orange chicken, and I ordered the stir fried vegetables. Everything was extremely good! Very fresh, homemade, well presented, and flavorful. I'd never had fried salmon before, and I really enjoyed it. My friends said the generous portion of orange chicken was very succulent and bursting of flavor, and the chicken fried rice was a very yummy comfort food. Asian Noodles is one of many area asian spots that suffers from painfully straightforward branding. There's not much playful wit or alluring mystique to draw you in, just a twofold promise that the food will be Asian... and possibly in noodle-form. While it may lack in gimmicks, it most definitely delivers in churning out solidly good, sizable, budget-friendly meals. In an act of un/sub-conscious defiance, I've actually only ever had the noodles here once in my many visits. Their Bun Bo Hue is gooooood, but the golden steam fried chicken is my go-to. I'm a sucker for all things fried and crispy, and the skin on this big hunk of leg and thigh is perfect. My ventures into the standard staple Viet dishes on their menu have been pretty solid; last time I grabbed the flame broiled lemongrass beef w/ rice subbed in for vermicelli. The house fried rice is a safe option as well, offering up a pretty heaping stir fried portion. All in all, the food is consistently tasty and filling. Nothing mindbendingly amazing, but consistency's always worth praising, especially when it has to do with decently tasty food. For all of the vacuum-gut thrill-seekers, Asian Noodles also has a big bowl pho challenge: finish the gargantuan bowl in an hour, and you get it for free. Considering I can barely finish a large pho on my own, I'll probably have to pass. Besides, I've watched enough Man vs. Food to to know that it's never really worth it unless it's televised.
