We ordered shrimp with snow peas and steamed rice, shrimp lo mein, combination fried rice and a couple of egg rolls. The food was prepared very quickly--maybe too quickly--which made me think that much of it was pre-prepared. The shrimp in both dishes was gummy and I actually couldn't tell if it was batter fried or not. The steamed rice was hard and clumpy. The sauces for both the snow pea and lo mein dishes were pretty dry and flavorless. I thought some soy sauce might make a difference but it did not. Another family member said the egg rolls were not good. My husband said the combination rice was good but I didn't try it myself. Sadly, I cannot recommend this establishment. read more

Abby was the front cashier. She is very knowledgeable about what is best to eat in house & what to eat for the next day. This is very helpful and not common at other places I have visited. I had Orange Chicken (eat in house). I took Happy Family w/fried rice for tomorrows lunch for work. The Egg Drop soup & Orange Chicken was excellent in house. When I arrived the man at the cashier station was very polite and my order was ready when I got there. I started with the Hot & Sour Soup $1.75 which was probably the best part of the whole meal. Hot and tasty but generic. Their crispy wontons were stale though. I also got the Fried Crab Rangoon $3.95 for 4 and their Egg Rolls $2.00 for 2. The breading on the Rangoon was also stale and had 0 crab in it, not good. The egg rolls were nice a crispy but there was no flavor at all. I got the Sesame Chicken $9.75 with steamed rice. Normally this dish comes with broccoli but here they do bell peppers and carrots which is disappointing to me. But it only had one wonton which was cut in half to give the appearance of two. I'd probably get the wonton soup again, but there wasn't enough meat in the Kung Pao for my liking. Ok, so we tried this place today for the first time. For delivery. We ordered the Teriyaki Chicken, Sweet & Sour chicken, House Special Soup, and Chow Mein. The soup was good, flavorful broth and a good mix of veges with some beef, chicken, but just two tiny shrimps which was kind of disappointing. The sweet & Sour chicken was tough and stringy and basically inedible. The teriyaki chicken was basically bland steamed pieces of chicken with some teriyaki sauce on top. This was NOT Chow Mein by ANY means. We're new to Texas and wanted to find a good place for Chinese food but I have to be honest and say we will probably keep looking. For some reason, I had an intense craving for cheap Chinese take out today. Nothing fancy, but something a rung above mall food. Well, Asian Star definitely hit the spot! This no frills, neighborhood Chinese spot is on my way home, so it's super convenient. I had an order of crab rangoon, egg rolls, and chicken fried rice and all were delish! My only complaint is that the chicken fried rice was a little light on the chicken and the crab rangoon was made with egg roll paper (I prefer the spring roll paper). As for the vegies, mostly water chestnuts (not even a listed ingredient) and bamboo shoots, about 8 baby corn, 6 pea pods, 4 broccoli florets, NO zucchini, onions or bell peppers. I was most disappointed, as they are friendly and attentive. Sesame chicken - bland, shockingly flavorless for something drenched in sauce. Mu shu pork - bland, aside from the plum sauce. Fried rice - bland, no egg or peas or anything usually expected from fried rice. Crab rangoon - disappointingly bland. The sauce that came with it: literally impossible to tell what kind of sauce it is. It's neon red liquid with no flavor aside from a vague unidentifiable sweetness. Save your money and order elsewhere. We had to add our own soy sauce (none was provided) in order to make the food edible to make it taste like at least something. 2 stars because it's cheap and affordable.
