Sooo glad we found this place on Yelp. Don't pass this place up. Was searching for a pastry and cake shop. This place exceeded expectations. They have a nice selection of European style mini cakes and desserts. They also have sweet honey desserts. We love everything we've tried. Desserts are made fresh and the mini desserts are elegantly made that they can be boxed as a nice gift. There are pre-packed plastic containers of cookies and treats. Addicted to the almond and honey brittle. There is no outdoor seating and the shop is small. Located in a very busy strip mall but parking is usually available out front. read more

04.03.2019 Finally stopped by here to see what they had. I bought a piece of square baklava, an almond tart, two strawberry jello squares and a chocolate covered cream puff. Total spent = $4.86 for all items. Just FYI, everything is weighed. There are no per piece prices unless you buy the cookie platters or packaged cake or bread. Just FYI, I forgot to take a picture of the baklava and almond tart. I didn't realize it until I finished eating those two pieces and looked down at an empty container. The baklava was too sweet for me. I prefer more crunch to the exterior. My piece was probably sitting in a lot of syrup and/or for a long period of time because the bottom was chewy and the inside was very soft. The top was slightly crunchy. Not for me. The almond tart was delicious!!! My favorite so far. The crust tasted and had a texture of a shortbread cookie and the almonds on top gave it a good crunch. I would come back for more of these!!! Not too sweet but just enough. I bought a chocolate covered cream puff for H, which she tasted after dinner. Little O got two strawberry jello squares. Layers of cake, cream and the top has slices of strawberry in strawberry jello. Reminded me of when I was young and they'd serve this at parties. The cake was good, cream was good and jello...well, who doesn't like jello? Overall a light and yummy sweet treat. I wish they would let you taste some of the items because I have no idea what they are or what they taste like. read more

The aroma of all the fresh goodies at Assal Pastry can take you into a different world just by walking into this bakery.....The bakery was clean and the service was good..I was craving Halva and when I told the lady working there, she told me they had a customer who had canceled her Halva order and she had some in the back..It tastes good even though it's a bit on the dry side but it certainly satisfied my tastebuds...You can never go wrong with their dry pastries especially their traditional Persian cookies/baked items... read more

Called to ask for the cake pictures on their web page and was told they had it and that they made it everyday and to come in. Exited that this was going to be my wife's birthday cake, I took the 20min drive. Upon arrival, I looked around behind the glass for the cake. No where to be found, I asked the lady behind the counter and was told they do not have the cake and that I needed to order in advance. Confused, I then asked if I could order it now and was simply told "No"! I had a short laugh and thanked the lady and walked out. Liars don't deserve my patronage! read more

Love this place and the small family run bakery vibe. This place has been around since I was a kid and my parents would always bring pastries home from Assal on the weekends. They're consistent in their taste and flavor and everything is always fresh. I like how they have a large variety for such a small space. They limit the number of people inside due to COVID and allow you to view the menu to avoid waiting inside and take up space. Everyone is required to wear a mask and/or is wearing a mask. Plenty of parking and the staff is friendly and helpful. read more

I wasn't gonna write this review at first, but this one particular food is so addictive that I have to sing its praises. I would normally talk about the location and so on at this point, but all I know is that Assal Pastry in Irvine and that someone brought one of their products to a party. The photo on the web site which matches the item calls it a Florentine, which is an almond lace cookie. They're pretty much all sliced, crunchy almonds with some mild sweetness. They've stayed crunchy this whole time too. The one annoying thing about them is all the broken bits and crumbs. Whether it's from intentional breaking or inadvertent jostling, those things pile up. I guess it comes with the territory though. I've been enjoying the leftover Florentines all week, so I'll definitely have to grab my own box from Assal Pastry the next time I'm in SoCal. Hopefully I'll have room to try some of their other offerings too. read more

Delicious quality pastry! I've had many of their mini pastries, sooo good. It's fresh and yum, sweet but not too sweet. Perfect! I also tried their custard pirashki, YUM! I love pirashki and I can't find it anywhere in Bay Area. I bought five and ate over the past few days. Even the last one after 4 days still tasted so good. They has a good balance of dough and custard; not too much dough and not as oily as one I had in LA. Will definitely go back to get more of those! read more

Love this place but Service was disgusting. We are of towner came in To buy cake for my daughter's birthday we spent over $100 and asked for forks and she said only can give us one or two forks. I said we are 10 people and welling to pay for it. She said we can't sell or give more than 2. She won't even look me in the eye. It tells me that the store is cheap or has a very bad decisions. read more

Gorgeous cakes and desserts, this is a great place for a light summer time cake, I have my eyes set on their fruit topped ones for an upcoming birthday. Service was great, I chose a few assorted small pastries and they were fresh and delicious. Prices are a bit high, but given the quality and care they put into their desserts,it is worth the occasional splurge. To go only with plenty of easy parking. read more

Oh man...my family has been ordering cakes from here for birthdays, graduations, anniversaries, dinner parties, etc. for I would guess to be a decade now! The strawberry pineapple cake is fabulous - the light whipped cream of the cake melts in your mouth and is not too sweet, the cake is nice and soft, and complements the two fruits in between well. It pleases a wide demographic of people, and will be a star at your next event. HIGHLY recommend. read more

One of the best bakeries. Prices are fair for the great fresh ingredients. U can be creative with your orders . I ordered pistachio and mocha . This cake was moist with fresh fruit on top. Could not decide my love of pistachio or mocha so I had both . Everyone loved this unusual flavor combinations. I ordered the day before and it was there for pickup when they said. Very moderate flavors and not as sweet compared to your average american sweets. Lots of options to choose from. My favorite is the almond tart. Service is very friendly here and you'd never feel rushed. Overall, I'd come back once a while, nothing too spectacular to rave about though. read more

I had always wanted to get something from Assal Pastry, but never knew what to get. So my girlfriend and I went in to ask what is popular. The lady told us that the Napolean and the cream puffs are popular, so we ordered one of each. It was my first time having a Napolean, and I thought it was good. I wish I had eaten it earlier though because I feel the layers would've been crispier if I had eaten it immediately, but I had waited until I had gotten home and the layers had become soft. So next time I'll try to eat it sooner. As for the cream puff, it was actually pretty big, and they didn't skimp on the cream either. Overall, very satisfied with it. I will definitely come back for another one soon. Overall good experience. Would recommend to friends for desserts. read more

I tried 3 or 4 different baghlavas on different occasions and they were so tasteless. Baghlava's main flavor comes from cardamom and rose water which were non-existent in these. The nuts were fresh otherwise I would give it 1 star only read more

Probably the best Persian pastries I've ever eaten. They make the best sweet treats ever. I am a big fan of nuts and honey. Their pastries are full of nuts and honey. I love their colorful bite sized beautiful cakes. I usually buy twenty or more of the smaller cakes that are individually wrapped. read more

This tiny bakery is truly a gem. The eclair I purchased was the best I've ever had. Ever. Very fresh with a chocolatey covering and a smooth & light custard inside that is not sugary sweet. It is a delight in your mouth and slides gently to your tummy. The napoleon was equally phenomenal. The incredibly thin & delicate layers of pastry were interspersed with fluffy cream and topped with a hearty sprinkling of powdered sugar. It was so light it could have floated out of my hand and into the sky like a helium balloon. I've never had anything like it. The women who work here were very nice. There were only 6 other people in the bakery at the time but it is so microscopically small that this made it quite packed. Everyone was between me and the register but none of them were ready to order so I had to shout what I wanted as well as ask questions over the crowd, who did not move to let me through despite my request. The woman, realizing how rude these people were (obviously a cultural thing but that's another discussion for another time), came out from behind the counter and completed the transaction with me next to the door. Very nice of her. While I only purchased two items, they have many choices of beautiful pastries and quite a number of cakes. This will certainly be my first choice when purchasing pastries in the future. read more

I just got back from Turkey and had a craving forBaklava, searched under Turkish Bakery and this place showed up I was so happy and looked forward to meeting some friendly people and tasting some delicious Baklava. This place is apparently only for Persians if you are not then you get yelled at and be treated like a less than a human. I was looking for a cake for my daughters birthday, reading the good reviews on here I went here to get a cake and I was standing in line. A lady who worked here saw me repeatedly yelled/screamed at me "what do you want?". I said I want to buy a cake and she said "no, we don't have that!" When I saw cakes in front of my eyes. She continued to yell at me in front of the line of people and she was very nice to all the other customers. I was degraded and humiliated for trying to buy a cake at this place as a non Persian. What a ridiculously racist place this place is! read more

phenomenal cookies!! i have been going here since i was a kid, always love getting their cookies. priced by weight and the best ones are the light and flakey ones so they are super affordable! the ladies are super nice and always recommend great pastries, their little mini cakes are great too! very busy around certain holidays, so sometimes they are all sold out, but they often will have something tasty to suggest in place of your favorites (i have never been let down by one of their suggestions) read more

I love the rice pudding with saffron, but this has become my go to for my family pastries and birthday cakes. The chocolate cake is my absolute favorite with a nice layer of mouse. The matcha flavor wasn't very strong and I felt like the drink was missing that rich, earthy matcha flavor that I usually look for. Overall, it wasn't bad, but definitely not something I would come back specifically for. HOWEVER, the pastries are a completely different story. 5/5. Their Curry Pan is SO GOOD. Super crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, and the curry filling is so flavorful. This is honestly what I would come back for over the drinks. They have a huge selection of Japanese-style breads and pastries, and everything always looks so fresh and fluffy. If you're coming here mainly for matcha, I think there are better matcha spots in OC. But as a bakery?? Absolutely worth trying. Come for the pastries and definitely get the Curry Pan!!

Parking is horrendous and the driving there is horrendous as well. Probably the easiest and least horrifying option just to automatically default to is to just park in the overflow lot right next to the plaza. There's no indicator for the parking garage so on a particularly busy day, you can head all the way to the top, find nothing and navigate through the hell crowds trying to leave. Ambiance is a very casual, counter order business in the food court. There's seating there, but we ate really close by. Definitely something you have to eat immediately or the texture will not be optimal or it might get soggy. We got the tiramisu croffle and they toasted it and put it together for us there. The lady working there packed it up nicely in a to go box and we got some cookies (regular ones and almond crisp ones). It's a bit sweet, but they're dessert pastries so that makes sense. Goes great with a brewed cup of tea. Croffle had a nice semi-chewy texture and the tiramisu flavor added a bit of a coffee taste to it. Good balance of the cream and croffle. The cookie wasn't too bad either. Overall not a bad to go dessert spot.
