The waitresses time wasn't terrible as it was only about 15-20 minutes for a party of 3 on a busy Sunday! When you walk in you get seated and no one comes to take your order. There's a QR code on the edge of the table that you scan to place your order! The only issue with this is sometimes your cell service fails, like in our case only 1 of us was able to get it to load. There were parties who called the waiters over but since they're busy bringing out the food it did look like it took a while to get anyone's attention! We ordered a few items off their menu, starting with * Pan fried pork bun- these were so yummy but extremely hot! I do wish it came in a bigger order as they only come in 4's. The bottoms were so crispy and the inside was filled with soup and filling. * pork potstickers- these were also so yummy that we ended up ordering 2 portions as they also come in 4's. *pork xia long bao- these were good, sadly a lot of ours got stuck to the lining and had very little soup once we ate them. I feel that a lot of Chinese restaurants are doing that type of decor lately and I dig it. The food here was good except that the Cruller inside the egg pancake was not crispy. It was soggy and felt extra heavy to eat. It was still tasty, but I wouldn't order it again. The Pan-fried Pork Buns ($6.50) were so tasty. I wish the bottom crust was crisper though. Came here for dinner with some friends and we ordered some of the recommended dishes on the menu. The pan fried pork buns were good, juicy and had a good amount of meat and soup. My favorite dish was actually the twisted cruller mochi, it had a great texture and came with a lot of black sesame. What we ordered: - Hairy Crab Roe Dry Noodles: The noodles were chewy and the crab roe gave this a silky texture. This was good to try, but not much flavor aside from the crab roe. - Pan Fried Pork Buns: This is a perfect balance of a crispy bottom with a soft dough on top. PAN FRIED PORK BUNS! YOU HAVE TO ORDER THIS. I've been here a total of 4 times now within the past month or two because the pork buns keep calling me back. I've tried a good amount of other dishes that could be hit or miss but the pork buns have been the consistent favorite and honestly my reason for the 5 star rating. What I've ordered: -Pan Fried Pork Buns: I braved a rainy LA drive for this dish and I'd do it again. They have such perfectly crispy bottoms, with flavorful meat inside and the juicy broth is just so SATISFYING. I also really, really appreciate that their version has a much thinner skin/exterior than other restaurants in the area. I actually did not enjoy sheng jian bao in the past as I have had very doughy varieties but this one changed my opinion! I pair it with a light splash of soy sauce/black vinegar mixture and some chili oil crisp that's provided on the table for an extra kick. *Pro tip: Take a very small bite of the skin on one side of the bun for your first bite so you don't risk having an explosion of juice all over your face and clothes lol. -Twisted Cruller Mochi w/Black Sesame: I don't know why I thought this dish was going to be the traditional youtiao chinese donut but stuffed with mochi/made with a chewy dough, then rolled in black sesame powder but it is actually a large glob of mochi sandwiched between 2 youtiao on top and 2 on the bottom, then dusted in the black sesame. It was a very overwhelming dessert for me and my boyfriend, even after taking it to go. We thought it was heavy from all the dough and starch so we wouldn't order it again but it wasn't inherently bad. -Crab Xiao Long Bao: We enjoyed this one! The skin was not as thin as Paradise Dynasty but the flavor was good. We also liked the pork version. -Egg Pancake w/Duck Breast: Not bad. I think this one was just hard to eat when it's not in a handheld format. The duck breast had a really smoky flavor and reminded me of a thick bacon as opposed to a traditional duck. I liked the crispy pancake inside, it just happened to be difficult to cut into portions for sharing. The chili oil crisp was an excellent pairing for this. -Hot Sweetened Soy Milk: Served in a bowl. I haven't had soy milk served in this way but it was nice and warm for a rainy day. Very lightly sweetened. -Crab Roe Noodles: I liked the chewy texture of the noodles but my boyfriend and I agreed the flavor was very mild. I think we were expecting something with a deeper flavor like a sate sauce or garlic but it was more so creamy. We had to add the chili sauce to this one to give it more complex flavors. -Pan Fried Curry Beef Bun: This one was quite disappointing. I think it just wasn't what we were expecting in terms of flavor profile. The curry was overly sweet and the flavor of the beef was more mild. I think you get a strong turmeric or even vegetal flavor as opposed to warm spices. There were a lot of juices in the bun just like the pork ones but it's a much larger bun that comes as just 1 per order. We did enjoy the flakiness of the exterior but that was about it. -Sticky Rice Ball w/Black Sesame: I LOVE black sesame but this one was just okay. The mochi exterior was chewy but there was inconsistent thickness throughout different parts of the mochi ball so some parts were tougher and much thicker which required more chewing to get through all the dough. Orders come out in a small paper box with 2 pieces per order. The mochi has plastic wrap on the outside. I did see a glass case at the front which has all the pre-made rice ball desserts. The restaurant and parking: This restaurant is located on Alhambra's main street. There is free street parking right out front or along the side streets but if it's busy, you can easily park in the structure behind the building and walk over in less than 5 minutes. The restaurant is medium sized with a decent amount of tables. Even on a busy day, my boyfriend and I waited no more than 10 minutes for a table. Lots of old Chinese decor/memorabilia. Was strolling down Main Street and decided to check this restaurant. I thought it was an Asian boba milk tea place but discovered it was a Shanghainese restaurant. The two of us ordered their popcorn chicken, pan seared buns (baos), shepherds purse and pork wonton soup, jellyfish head salad, xiao long bao, seaweed salad and for dessert we ordered their sweet osmanthus tofu pudding and coconut lava balls. The popcorn chicken portion was a little on the smaller side but the flavor was excellent. It was actually one of the best Chinese/Taiwanese popcorn chicken I have had. It was light and crispy. It didn't have a heavy flour batter like the other restaurants. Their pan fried baos were delicious and was juicy. Be careful when eating it. It's hot (temperature) inside. The XLB was decent. I'd skip on the jellyfish head salad next time. The wonton soup was average also but decent portion. Seaweed salad was good! Not to disappoint- the osmanthus tofu was lovely. It had the floral aroma of osmanthus but retained the familiar sweet tofu we were accustomed to. Lava balls were yummy. It looked like the sesame balls you get at the dim sum joints but this had a soft sweet lava filling that oozed of yummy goodness. The bill came to about $85 for the two of us. No drinks. The popcorn chicken was a nice portion, crispy, and delicious; easily one of my favorites of the night. The pancake came last and was a little less crispy than I thought. It wasn't too saucy and soggy, but it was just alright. One thing I didn't like was how the food was spaced out in it (I think in quadrants) so some areas had beef and some only had cabbage. "Discovered" Auntie Qiu via Top Chef Melissa King's recommendation, and made for a very nice new place to try! Service is friendly and the decor and ambiance of the place is cute and welcoming. We were a party of 2 and wanted to try different items that we normally don't get to try as well as what they're known for. So we ordered: -Twisted Cruller Mochi (black sesame flavor) - very interesting and satisfying! More of a dessert with this flavor, and had both nutty crispy and chewy-ness -Pan-fried pork buns - these were great! you get 4 in an order -Shanghai Salty Tofu Pudding - Good, although I did not realize it included tiny shrimp (I don't eat seafood) so had to do a bit of maneuvering to avoid them. -Osmanthus Sticky Cake - We just wanted to try this and at this point we were really stuffed, but it was also an interesting dessert -Sticky Rice Shanghai Shumai - This I was so excited for but so disappointed. My wife and I stopped here for late lunch on 10/25/25 since I was craving soup dumplings. Since this restaurant took the place to Qiu Noodles, we wanted to see how it's like. Upon entry, we noticed it was quite crowded with only a couple tables available (at 3pm). We could tell they added more tables than the previous restaurant had. The ambiance was improved with the colorful Shanghai street type art work. In regards to the food itself, it was excellent Shanghainese food! My favorite item out of the various items ordered was the popcorn chicken. It was super crispy, extremely flavorful without being overly salty, and the chicken was incredibly moist. The only dish that was not truly outstanding were the pork soup dumplings. I think it's because I expected the skin to be thinner due to the fact that I've been to other restaurants like Mama Lu's or Din Tai Fung as the point of comparison. Wow, everything and I mean everything was very delicious except for the Pancake+Double Eggs item. Eggs are meant to be eaten right away not several hours later. I'll have to try them again the next time I dine in. 1. Pan-Fried Pork Bun - nice and juicy plus lightly crispy at the bottom, very flavorful pork filling, WINNER! 2. This is their second location in Alhambra, and the amount of Labubu decorations everywhere was actually hilarious. The service was good and attentive throughout our visit. I also love the pan fried pork buns, sticky rice shumai, salty tofu pudding, and preserved vegetable and shredded pork noodle soup. One of my favorite items is the black sesame mochi cruller which is essentially mochi sandwiched between two crullers and rolled in black sesame powder. It's quite heavy though so probably best to order only if you are a group of 3 or 4+. I would skip the pancake with double eggs, lettuce, crisp fritter, and beef. As another reviewer said, this dish is pretty one-dimensional. There isn't much texture since the lettuce and fritter ends up soft by the time it's brought to the table. Long wait times during lunch but well worth it. Service can be a bit slow during this time but the quality of food is great! Pan fried pork buns are my fave here. Parking structure is in the back and a little bit of a walk but they also have good drink places around as well. Great location! read more

First time coming to Auntie Qiu! The restaurant is so cute and decorated with old movie posters and other Chinese decorations. They even have a giant zimomo dressed in traditional Chinese headwear by the register, haha. They specialize in Shanghainese food including soup dumplings so of course my friend and I ordered the crab soup dumplings. We also got the double egg pancake with sausages, the cold wontons and the black sesame mochi cruller. All of the food was really good. They also have this hot pepper oil that is so flavorful and has a nice kick to it. I literally added that chili oil to everything we ordered since it was so good. The soup dumplings were so juicy and a must get. The skin was pretty thin too! You can see their chefs making the soup dumplings too. Service was really good. The servers were really patient with us since the item we had originally wanted to order (crab roe noodles) was out of season and not available so we had to choose something else instead. At the end of our meal, they said to check back with them in the middle of this month when the crabs are back in season so we're looking forward to that! Did we find our new breakfast spot?? What a fun place with amazing decor! Service is also great - we were struggling with the QR code, so one of the servers came by and just took our order - yay for still having that option! Never change. The inside makes you feel like you're dropped into....maybe a sci-fi version of propagandized cultural revolution era China that's also kind of modern. They have a huge poster that indicates there's 3650 days til the 高考...I mean, I don't know why they are counting down 10 years (unless I'm just reading all of this wrong), but it furthers the mystery of this space. The food is really good. They have a savory soy milk that is NOT curdled (Taiwanese salty soy milk usually has some vinegar in it, which curdles the soy) - this one has a clean flavor that I've never had before. Delicious. Not that I prefer this over the Taiwanese 鹹豆漿, but I appreciate the difference. We also got the egg crepe, which comes with a sweet and savory sauce, and also the oil stick (油條 hehe) with mochi and black sesame - this was innovative and delicious! And their oil stick is SO well made - probably one of the best oil sticks I've had recently. Delicious all around. The only thing that I thought was just meh was the scallion pancakes. Tasty, yes. Not so unique. Prices are very reasonable here. Their bathrooms are gendered and have amenities. Parking is in one of the many free lots in Alhambra off Main Street. read more

Some must tries: Shanghai Salty Tofu Pudding, fried pork chop sticky rice cake, pan fried pork bun, spring roll, wontons, rice ball/sticky cake. If you grew up in Shanghai, this will instantly take you back. If you didn't, this is the real experience -- not a shortcut version.
