Loved Aura Day Spa! Went in on a Sunday afternoon and it was not crowded at all. They had really peaceful music in the background and I was helped immediately. I wanted a mani and pedi but the prices were a tad high so I just decided to concentrate on my feet since I've neglected them all winter. GiGi told me about all the special pedicures and I decided on a island themed one that included a scrub and paraffin. I was nervous that GiGi was just going to rush and go through the motions like every other nail tech at any other salon but GiGi took her time...like really took her time...like meticulously went over everything. I definitely appreciated that. The paint job was good too. GiGi told me about SNS nails and I plan to go back and try it when I get a manicure. read more

A friend referred me to Aura Day Spa and recommended I get the sns powder nail treatment. I'm soo thrilled with my nails and the experience in general. Hands down one of the best nail salons I have been in the DMV area! Not gonna lie I've been to quite a handful of nail salons since moving to the area 5 years ago, but every single of the employees there are incredibly nice and patient. The first time that I went with a good friend, I was THAT girl amused like a little kid in a candy shop when I saw every one dipping their fingers in the powders (aka SNS) and obviously was curious. Something about the amused look on my face eventually sparked conversations with practically every one that was getting their nails done with SNS, while I getting the standard gel manicure. Basically I was convinced and sold on giving the SNS manicure the next visit. Fast forward, yesterday I just got the SNS manicure with my same friend as the previous visit and we are OBSESSED!! I see what the hype is all about now. Highly recommend paying more for SNS manicure ($55). Steep, I know but totally worth every dollar! Thanks to my manicurist, Lina, for being completely patient with me as I had the hardest time selecting a color (they have at least 100 SNS color options - no joke). P.S. I've now been to Aura twice and I can heartily recommend it. I've gone to get a SNS manicure and a pedicure and I think they're among the best I've ever had. The SNS manicures are for real. My nails have never tolerated gel well. It seems to start lifting after a week. With SNS my nails probably could have lasted another week or two. (I wanted to change the color because I was heading out of town to the beach and wanted a lighter color.) The technicians are very professional, and do a fantastic job of cleaning up the area around the nails. I will say that the SNS nails do not come with a traditional manicure (cleaning up the cuticles). That service will cost you extra, and I'm not sure you necessarily need to do it because they use a mechanized file to clean up the area around the nails. My nails look fantastic, and they're strong. I'm knocking off one star because I'm still a little confused about the pedicure situation. Like many salons in the area there are a bunch of different treatments to choose from, but apparently only some of them come with actually putting polish on your nails. (This was per my nail technician.) That seemed a little strange to me, and it ended up being a lot more than I would normally spend for a pedicure. But I will say that the pedicure was top notch and I didn't feel rushed as I do when I go to other salons. Still, I think I'll probably save money on my pedicure and have that done elsewhere! read more

Edited: after being contacted by the manager, I decided to give Aura one more try. The specialist took her time and made sure the nails were set correctly and cleaned up under my nails. It was a great experience and the nails have lasted 3 and a half weeks now. I'd strongly recommend to anyone who feels rushed by their specialist to request a new one instantly and make sure they reset the SNS nails. All in all this last experience was infinitely better than my last one! Let me start by saying I loved this place. Prior to these last couple of visits, they were my favorite place to go for an SNS manicure. But the last two visits, it has been insanely rushed and basically pushed me out the door as soon as possible. The first time, I ended up with a chip in my nail 3 days later, and they were fantastic to offer to fix when I told them about it. But then one week later, the SNS nail the girl had fixed, fell off. I chalked it up to being a different day and my own nails were in a different state (i.e more oily due to stress or lotion put on) then they were initially and could have just not accepted the color. This time, it's been 10 days since I had my nails done and the SNS nail has fallen off of 5 fingers. 5!! SNS itself is supposed to last longer than gel or paint, but I can't get this place to take the time to make sure the nails are done correctly. The girl who did my nails this past time, basically forced me to get my nails done while I'm getting a pedicure. My friend and I were there to relax and have a girls evening, and I was rushed through to have to sit and wait an hour and a half for my friend to finish. I understand your busy, but taking the time to make sure your customers have a good experience (i.e giving them the chance to actually spend time with their friend when they come in with another person) and give them a good product should be the top of your list. I don't know what happened in the last few months, but it has seem to fallen downhill fast. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to Aura because it's a waste of my $65 to pay for SNS and only have them last 10 days when I expect them to last at least 3 week read more

I have been going to Aura for about 9 months now, and it is the best in the area. Every time I schedule an appointment and go in, all employees are inviting and kind to me from the start to finish. It is incredibly clean, which I really value in a salon. I usually get SNS, but I've had them also do traditional pedicures and gel polish, and those are also fantastic. I usually see Julie, and she is absolutely incredible, but I have went to a couple other people, and they are also great too. With SNS, my nails usually last for 3-4 weeks. I am so disappointed and frustrated with Aura Day Spa. I have been going there for over two years for SNS manicures, eyebrows and pedicures. I go every 3 weeks, rarely missing a week. Their service has gone downhill as they have gotten more popular in the area. I do have to give it to them, they do an excellent job on nails, which has kept me going back for the past two years. Two months ago, I made an appointment, like usual, and I waited for 45 minutes with acetone on my nails, due to them being so busy. I made an appointment for two of my friends that day as well. My two friends had gotten their gel manicures completely done while I still waited for a technician. If I had just walked in I wouldn't have minded but I made an appointment which was frustrating. I ended up leaving without my nails done. My two friends had been done and I didn't want them to wait for me. I ended up just having them take off my SNS and I went to another place in the area that day. The technician apologized telling me she would be quick and to stay - but I didn't want her to rush through my nails because they had overlooked me sitting there on a busy day. I was upset that day but gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was the first time it had happened, hence not leaving a poor review that day. Yesterday I went again, and I made an appointment for both SNS and my eyebrows. I arrived for my 6:30 appointment at 6:15 so that they could wrap my nails early. Two women, without appointments walked in around the same time that I did. As I was choosing my color they were both seated and taken immediately. It wasn't until 7:10 that a nail technician came to start working on my nails - almost an hour! At that point, she could see I was visibly upset and was trying to make small talk to make up for it - which ended up frustrating me more. The two women who had walked in the same time as I did had already been done with their services as I was just starting mine. I needed to get my nails done and I had already waited the 50 minutes so I stayed but I will never be back. No one apologized for the wait, and to boot I didn't get my eyebrows done either. By the time she finished my nails, they were preparing to close. I called them shortly after leaving, explaining how frustrated I was - though I did not want to make a scene in the salon. The owner agreed and apologized but had nothing else to say. (I also want to note, the nail technician dropped acetone on my cellphone/ case and ruined it. Again, not saying sorry but rather "oh no." Luckily it did not damage my phone.) I would steer clear of Aura. There are plenty of nail salons in the area that do the same great job and treat their returning customers with respect. I will now be using starlight nails, a few blocks down, recommended by a friend who stopped going to Aura Day Spa as well! I gave two stars because though they tend to rush you once they have you in the chair and are working on your nails, they do a very good job. In my opinion, I have more respect for a place that tells you to come back at a later time then making you sit there, even with an appointment. I don't care how good of a job a place does, my time is just as important as theirs, especially when I make an appointment and have been a regular customer!! read more

I normally am quiet bc I hate being difficult especially since I work in customer service but her attitude was not right & the manager, Tina didn't step in even though she was sitting right next to her. Her attitude was so bad another lady had to finish my nails. All in all, the nail salon is clean and nice but they need better staff. I paid $55 for nails that don't look good! The dip powder the manager recommended for me wasn't well executed and I had smudges and marks on my acrylics. I didn't want to be difficult/ hold them up since they close at 8 and didn't want to deal with their attitude so I left w/o tipping. Goes to say, I will not be returning to their establishment unless their staff makes some major adjustments & will not suggest going here to anyone!!!! Update: I went back to fix a broken nail. Z was very helpful and engaging but tommy was money hungry. He didn't get the right color so I asked him to change it on the other hand to match since he didn't get the right color & he wanted me to pay for his mistake $5!!! I'm not paying after you chose the wrong color & wanted me to have two different shades of nail polish! Thankfully, the receptionist let me go after tommy started arguing with me. They have no sense of the term: the customer is right. They would rather argue with you. On another note, another lady & her husband came in & tommy was rushing to help them & even offered them water & complimentary massages with their manicure. He was rushing to get me out of there to help someone that had the white shade if you know what I mean. That second visit affirmed my thoughts about that place & I will not return. I was midway through my pedicure before I knew I would become a regular. The salon is very clean and modern. I was a big fan of the stone wall across from my pedicure chair. The staff was polite, friendly, and made sure everything was going well. I opted for an SNS service and a basic pedicure. If I had more time I would have gone for a spa pedicure, the foot massage was the best I have received. I was a bit confused when I was asked if I wanted a manicure on top of my SNS service. I walked in here about six weeks ago and asked for a basic manicure and pedicure. My nail technician was Nancy, who was a little aggressive when I was picking out my colors and actually ended up picking them out for me. This worked out well for my toes but less so for my fingernails. She was still nice, though, and she did a great job on my nails. My manicure lasted almost two weeks and I was still getting compliments on my pedicure five weeks later! I definitely plan to return here the next time I want to treat myself. The basic manicure and pedicure combination was about $50, which is completely reasonable, and they sterilize their manicure and pedicure tools, which I love. I do wish that the nearby parking weren't all metered, but there's nothing the business can do about that, unfortunately. I highly recommend this nail salon! read more

They provide beverages to customers.. each manicure comes with a short shoulder massage, which is great. My last gel manicure lasted for over 2 weeks without any sign of peeling or chipping. I've thought overnight about posting this or not. I am so angry that I spent $100 with tip for the worst pedicure of my life and a shitty SNS manicure. I had Mia. I called ahead and at first I was greeted by Nikki who took me back but then got switched to this lazy rude woman for no reason. Let's start off with the fact that she nipped my cuticles back so far that it was raw and went so deep into the corners. It hurt and she cut me with the cuticle trimmer and I told her and she didn't even apologize. Her excuse? "It's not bleeding." Well that makes it all ok doesn't it? The massage felt like a child attempting a foot massage and was not relaxing at all. It was about 2 min long. Also, she charged me $8 more to remove calluses. This is ridiculous and should be included with a pedicure!! When I went to get my SNS done, the floor was filthy with other customers nail clippings, dust, etc. gross. It was also packed. She took off the SNS with a drill tool and told me "don't be scared" and put it on my skin near my palm to show me. Ummm what? That is so rude and I don't need my palm drilled. I've had my nails done before. So terrible. She made my nails so thick and did not know what she was doing. I've never had a worse nail experience. I asked her if I could please have an SNS brand color, not OPI like she pulled. She was clearly annoyed and then slammed down the SNS color when she came back. Salty much? I asked her if she put a top coat after she acted like we were done because it didn't look shiny, and she snapped at me and raised her voice saying "I'm not finished yet! Not finished!" "It looks natural ok!?" Whatever makes you feel better about your sloppy work!? I'm so unimpressed with this place. She barely filed my nails and they're rough and grainy, not smooth because she was rushing. I can tell that when my nails grow, the sides will start to pull up and get caught on things. Oh, and when I asked kindly for her to file them a bit thinner (they're still super thick and bulky), she took the buffer and held it up in my face. Saying like "LOOK IM DOING IT." Super awesome! ALSO...! A "manicure" doesn't even come with the "SNS MANICURE" for $50. It's $10 more making it $60. Absolutely silly. Why give he option to half ass your quality of work or not? So I'm forced to pick the $10 more add on option or my nails will look crusty AF like this? This is what happens when I stray from Ivy Nails in Alexandria. Never again! Save your time and money. I work hard on my feet all day, and wanted to feel pampered. I felt the total opposite of that! Not coming back. Also, they need to get with the times and get some liners for the bowls. Came to this place because I was traveling and it's super close to my apartment building. It's a pretty place and the workers are kind. One girl started doing my nails then stopped, got up and went to another client and didn't tell me. Another lady finally sat down to do my nails and filed my nails in such a way that I've never seen anyone do it. My nails are long, She squeezed my finger very close to the file until I felt burning. I asked her to stop and she was like yeah almost, until I pulled my hand away. She had cut me my finger with the nail file (it was sort of a file burn) because of how she was squeezing my finger. She felt bad and apologized, but they still charged me for my nail art and the manager didn't care to apologize even when I told him what had happened. It was a really deep cut and hurt for a few days. I won't be returning. Polish chipped a little after about 2 days. $35 for a gel (with a check in) is a little steep. Came in for the SNS nails that the reviews said were phenomenal. Service was good, including fixing a nail that broke one day after getting it. My goal for getting SNS nails, though, was to grow them out and because they historically don't break. But three of my nails have chipped/broken in the first three weeks and the damage to my underlying nail is such that I'll probably have to cut them down and start all over. If you are to lazy to read my long review : DON'T BOOK WITH MINDY SHE IS RUDE, unprofessional and obviously hates her job since she sucks so much at it. I needed to get my nails for an event last week but my regular nail lady was not available so after searching for nearby salons I came across this salon , reviews and pictures looked fine so i decided to give it a try. I called to make an appointment with karen but she was not available but the owner on the phone was reassuring that everyone was well trained and I would not be disappointed. Well... needless to say i was VERY disappointed from the moment i walked in to the moment i left. As i walked in , i was pleased with the modern and clean look of the salon.. i waited by the front desk for a minute before someone came and this is when i knew things were going to go downhill. The owner totally ignored me and went ahead and spoke to the lady who walked in behind me greeted her first! He later acknowledges me and greets me. (I wonder if it was because i was with sweats and not on a fancy dress like the lady behind me?) who knows . Anyways I'm later introduced to the WORST NAIL TECHNICIAN I've HAD EVER!!! MINDY was so rude, dirty and she obviously hates her job or at least thats what it seemed to me. I went in for a Gel mani and a pedicure . MINDY sits me down and begins to wrap my nails with foil , soaking the cotton to the point where the acetone was dripping down my hands and making a mess. You could tell she was sick as she kept sniffing her nose and making awkward sounds, She then asks me what color i want and i tell her i don't know yet i just walked in and have not had a chance to look and she goes "UGH, u take too long" WHATTT!!!!!??? i wanted to walk out so bad because i already knew she was going to suck too bad i was desperate to get them done. She walks me to the pedi section while my nails soaked and to my surprise there was no warm water waiting for me she didn't even get it ready , next she turns the water on and my pants were still low down my ankles so i move my feet and she rolls her eyes again... uhhhh does she not know my pants will get wet? Anyways to keep it short she never even asked me what pedi i wanted , my pedicure lasted 10 minutes with a mediocre massage and she didn't even do anything to the bottom of my feet . I was already livid and I just wanted to get out of there as soon as possible so i didn't say anything . manicure was the worst , my nails peeled the next day and doesn't even looked like a gel mani and she doesnt know how to shape nails , waste of money and my time since i had to go to my regular nail lady within Twoh days . And last but not least Not one time did anybody ask me if i wanted water or tea or anything , not even the owner.
