Just purchased my 2nd Subaru from Austin Subaru on Burnet Road. Overall what a pleasant experience purchasing a vehicle. Specifically would like to praise my Sales guy Sean Knox. Just wanted to say that Sean Knox is fantastic! I met him initially in June when I stopped by with my daughter for her service appointment. He very simply greeted me and held the door open for me, which in turn had me inquire about a potential future Subaru purchase. He made such a positive impression that when I finally decided to make my purchase in December I sought him out specifically. He was/is very pleasant, helpful and knowledgeable. He is down to earth and not pushy which is a very welcome surprise as "most" sales people at various dealerships are off-putting, thus losing out on my business. Sean goes the extra mile and makes you feel special and part of the Subaru family. As a result I referred a friend to him, who also made a purchase, and I will continue to refer him and your dealership. Would give 0 stars if possible. We purchased a 2019 Subaru Outback 3.6L brand new from Subaru Austin and owned it for 6 years, putting approximately 120,000 miles on the vehicle. We bought this vehicle because of everything Subaru stands for: "94% of them are still on the road after 10 years", they're durable and long lasting, we're outdoorsy, gay, have dogs, all of the stereotypes check check check. We loved our service guy, but hindsight, we were screwed by this dealership: Every service--oil changes, filters, transmission services, inspections, and all recommended maintenance--was performed exclusively at Subaru Austin. Over those years, we spent well over $20,000 on service and repairs. For tens of thousands of miles (well before 60K), I repeatedly documented and reported transmission-related symptoms: Jerking and hesitation Poor acceleration and lack of power RPMs surging unpredictably Difficulty driving uphill Eventually, consistent burning smells Each time, we were told it could be the transmission but they were unable to diagnose any issue. At approximately 90,000 miles, Subaru of America agreed to cover 50% of major engine repairs (CVT front pump chain and CS head gasket), which required removing the engine and still cost us over $6,000 out of pocket. Less than 30,000 miles later, we were told the CVT had completely failed and needed to be replaced for $10,000, or we could purchase a used transmission with 66K miles for $2,800, or Subaru Austin would offer $12,000 for the vehicle. This came immediately after another disastrous service visit where: We spent $1,400 diagnosing the wrong AC issue Returned one week later for the actual issue (cracked radiator fan) after being given the car back The vehicle was returned to us damaged (front passenger door) We provided photo and video evidence proving the damage occurred during service. Subaru Austin initially agreed to repair the door properly, acknowledging it would require full repainting and blending, costing several thousand dollars. Instead, they later reversed course and offered a $500 check, stating management had "nixed" the repair. We were also told that if we sold the vehicle back to them, we would no longer be eligible for that $500. Here is where things crossed a line. We took the vehicle to CarMax, who offered $12,000, matching Subaru Austin's offer. CarMax did not detect the transmission failure. When we attempted to negotiate with Subaru Austin using this offer, we were asked whether CarMax knew about the transmission issue. We answered honestly: no. Subaru Austin then told us they would not increase their offer--but that if we sold the vehicle to CarMax with the bad transmission, they would still give us the $500 "courtesy" check. In other words, we were encouraged to offload a vehicle with a known major defect to another dealer so Subaru Austin wouldn't have to deal with it. Talk about deceptive trade practices and fraud!!! We refused and sold the car back to Subaru Austin. Three days later, the vehicle was listed on Subaru Austin's website for over $18,000, advertised as: One-owner Local trade All services completed at Subaru Austin There was no mention of transmission issues. Given the timeline, I highly doubt a $10,000 transmission replacement occurred before relisting. A few weeks later, the listing disappeared. Shoutout to whoever bought the green/java 2019 outback 3.6L with last 4 VIN#3377... If you are considering buying or servicing a vehicle here, I strongly recommend getting everything in writing, seeking independent diagnostics, and understanding that loyalty, documentation, and following all recommendations do not guarantee ethical treatment. This experience was financially devastating, emotionally draining, and completely avoidable. read more

Our 2019 Forrester has gotten most of its service here in Austin. This week we had the 60,000 mile service. For the last couple of visits, our service advisor has been Donovan. His excellent attitude and communication skills make this experience quite pleasant. The whole Service department seems very disciplined, which inspires confidence; and confidence is what you need when you're putting your life in a big heavy machine that's traveling at 70 miles an hour. The baristas in the café are pleasant and accommodating. If you want to go and have lunch at my favorite Chinese restaurant, Din Ho, they will arrange an Uber driver to take you there and pick you up to return to the dealer. read more

From Loyal Customer to Never Coming Back - Very Disappointed I've been a loyal Subaru customer for over five years and have spent over $10,000 at Austin Subaru on service and repairs. I chose the dealership for peace of mind -- even though I knew it was more expensive. That trust has now been completely broken. I brought my car in because it wouldn't start. I suspected a battery issue. After several hours of inspection, they told me they couldn't figure it out without a multi-day diagnostic that would cost over $250. I agreed, assuming it was necessary. Two days later, I received a video showing that the battery was visibly melted -- the damage was obvious from the outside. It was so clear that they replaced the battery under warranty without needing any diagnostics at all. So why did they try to charge me $250+ for a test that wasn't needed? Then they recommended nearly $8,000 worth of additional repairs I never requested. I approved only the most necessary items and still ended up paying around $1,400 -- for work I never intended to do. When I raised my concerns over the phone, the representative didn't want to discuss it. At pickup, I noticed a piece of the rear bumper was missing. I reported it immediately. The rep told me he didn't believe me but said they would check the cameras and call me back within a few hours. They never did. I called and left multiple voicemails -- and heard nothing for two full weeks. So I returned to the dealership in person. I asked to speak with Joseph, the representative I had been working with. They told me to wait for him, so I sat for 25 minutes. When I finally saw him, I walked up politely and asked, "Can we talk about what happened with the car?" Joseph looked at me and said, "I'm feeling triggered emotionally. I'm not in the mood to talk to you right now. Please go to the secretary and ask her to pair you with a different representative -- I don't want to work with you." It was surreal. I wasn't yelling. I wasn't rude. I was just frustrated after being ignored for two weeks. Joseph then walked away, and I had to speak with a different person to complete the checkout. The entire experience was deeply unprofessional -- and frankly, very odd. Austin Subaru may have a modern showroom and free coffee, but when it comes to customer service, they've completely lost my trust. I expected basic respect, accountability, and transparency -- I got none of that. I was planning to buy another Subaru. Not anymore. I cannot get anyone at Austin Subaru to help out all I get is rude emails pushing the blame back on to me. I didn't sell a broken car to anyone. I called Austin Subaru to ask about the price of an oil change. They quoted me the same price I had received previously, so I scheduled an appointment. Surprisingly, there was an opening later that morning. However, when I arrived, I was quoted a higher price and told it would take 2.5 hours. I explained that I could not wait that long and left. Since then, I have received texts and emails informing me that I missed my appointment. When I responded, I received an unhelpful reply that I suspect was from an AI bot. Austin Subaru used to be excellent, so it's sad to see this decline. read more

I dont even want to give them 1 star. I bought a vehicle with 36,000 miles about 2 months ago and the battery has already died, even before my first oil change. They sell their vehicles knowing the batteries fail and have you purchase a battery replacement in your contract, they are aware of the failure. My vehicle died on Christmas eve day and left me stranded. I was a huge subaru fan when they made them properly in the early 2000s, but these new vehicles turn into a giant paperweight. When I scheduled my appointment for a battery replacement and arrived at 840a, they told me it would take 2 hours. 2 hours to swap a battery that failed because their vehicles are poorly designed. I don't have 2 hours to wait for poor service. I have owned 3 Subarus, but you lost me as a customer. The coffee and snacks mean nothing to me when I don't have a reliable vehicle. read more

I brought my car in for brake repair, they did a good job on that. However, they then told me that I had an oil leak and that it would cost $6,000 to fix. But good news, they convinced Subaru corp to pay $1,000 so I only needed to pay $5,000. I took the car to another repair shop for a 2nd opinion. They said there was so much dirt all around that there was no way someone could have assessed the issue properly so the cleaned the area and found that there was NO LEAK. I took my tundra to Subaru to see what they would offer for a trade-in while I wan on my lunch break from work. They said they would take a look at it and assess it , never mentioning that they were going to drive it. Meanwhile a sales person was talking to me in the showroom and then moved on to another customer. After 45 minutes I was late to get back to work, and I had to find someone who could help me in getting my truck back in my possession. The driver had parked the car far away on the street. Nobody knew where it was. We finally found it. I opened the door to get in and a horrific smell came pouring out of the door and I noticed my dash cam was turned to the side so I watched the clips that were left after many of them had been deleted !!!!!!! The tech that was test driving the car took my truck it to his own personal house for a joyride, speeding through the neighborhood, verbalizing woo hoo! All on camera!!! He must had noticed there was a dash cam and he took it upon himself to go into my files of the dash cam and delete the ones that he thought were all him but he missed a couple of them .That explains why it took over 40 minutes to get it back. They never told me they were taking it for a test drive and they knew I was in a hurry. Plus , deleting my security dash cam files?? Really?? The sales team seemed so nice but I ended up feeling conned with a car I don't like. Despite repeated requests, I was not given a detailed price sheet for the car available. I suspect I ended up paying for Starlink and Wheellocks, even though I made it clear I didn't want either. Hannah G says I wasn't charged for one of those but then I get an invoice from Subaru saying I did. And I can't get a reply back to last week's email or texts. Buyers should be aware that the 10 year drive train warranty is only valid if all services are done by Austin Subaru. As far as the Crosstrek goes, I really don't like the exterior or interior color. The huge screen and duplicate information on the dashboard are overwhelming. I'm a driver that doesn't need all those gadgets. Simple things like changing the AC temp or fan speed are complex. Then there's the slight rock and sway when driving on the highway or in wind. I paid for premium seats but my back was screaming after a two hour trip, maybe because of the sway. My guess is that some customers are not pushing back and that is why they continue to slap these ridiculous fees onto the price of a used car. I have owned my Forester for several years. I LOVE my car and until my service visit today I would have rated SERVICE a 5 star. Since I was last here, 6 months ago, the service system has deteriorated. I phoned for an appointment- std lube, oil, filter and told the rep I needed to be out the door with a 3 hour limit. I arrived and was told it would be an additional 1 1/2 hours. I could reschedule, but it is difficult to find a. block of time. The free coffee bar has eliminated MANY of its offerings, including ANY that are blended, including iced. The quality of the "snacks" could be improved with a trip to Costco. And, they have added a 3% service charge to credit cards. Who has cash, a checkbook, or a debit card for car services? Especially without informing customers in advance. I intend to find another service provider, as this dealership "service" is NOT maintaining EXPECTATIONS. read more

I visited Austin Subaru to look at a vehicle I was interested in. In speaking to the used car salesman, he added products and a premium service contract without our knowledge. When we talked to the finance employee, he showed us the mileage and title paperwork. During our discussion, he was informed work was being done on the SUV and we would not be taking it home. He advised we could leave. When we returned to pick up the vehicle, we were handed a folder with the completed and signed contract which we did not see or sign. We did not discuss the interest rate of 9.19% or the additional $7,980.00 in add-ons and service contract. Our names were on the contract as if we had signed it. Please be very careful with this dealership as they take advantage of elderly people and push the amount as high as they can. The management does not consider this a problem. They say on the website to contact them to discuss the matter, but they are not interested in resolving anything. The battery died within one month and the tire sensors were replaced. Do not go to this place unless you want to get ripped off. read more

I felt like they were just trying to sell me a pre owned car with warranties that I did not need. I felt pressured because my older forester had close to 100,000 miles on it and that the tariffs were going to kick in if I didn't do something then. I blame myself for not asking enough questions but I also felt like they didn't give me many options. I told them immediately after signing that I didn't feel comfortable with the deal and again texted about it when I got home. The only thing I was able to do was cancel some of the warranties. I ended up trading in the car for a new subaru at Cleo Bay subaru. They were so professional and courteous and worked with me to get a new car with a much lower interest rate. Today we bought my wife's next car at Austin Subaru. We worked with Jade Baumgardner in sales and she was a great sales person to work with. She is a car enthusiast, knows her stuff and never was pushy during the interaction. We had a great time discussing with her. We will actually complete the payment and take possession of the car next week, but so far it was a good experience at Austin Subaru. Before working with her, we had also worked with her supervisor who was also very friendly. Now, let's hope we will love the car for many years. It's our first subie... After signing all the documents for the wife's car I asked her to test drive the latest WRX for me as a possible fun car with stick shift. Within 5 minutes, I was driving that car on 183 and having fun. So, perhaps something I will consider in the future... read more

Guess it just wasn't my day to get my car serviced at Austin Subaru. Had an appointment for 11:45 am for a regular service - oil change, tire rotation, wiper blade replacement and cabin air filter replacement. Go there a little early and they checked me in. Went to their very comfortable waiting area which offers free coffee and other drinks and snacks while you wait. There are also several charging stations where you can plug in your laptop or phone charger as you use your favorite electronic device. But there is where it ended. I kept getting texts from the service rep saying "I'm having problems with my printer to complete the paperwork" while meanwhile he was bringing in paper work for people who got here AFTER I did, having them sign and sending them on their way. I ended up driving out at 2 pm for a 11:14 appointment! And there was only one thing I specifically asked him to check out: The backup camera was out of alignment. He assured me that they would take care of it, but when I backed up today I see that they didn't bother to check it. I pulled out the paperwork and he didn't even list that as a problem under the "work needed" area. I ended up missing a lunch appointment I had at 1:30 as the service was supposed to take LESS than 1 1/2 hours. This is where I bought the Subaru back in January, and the process was very smooth and easy. This was the second of the first 2 of 4 free services that come with a new car at this location, so it was no-charge and probably that bumped me to the back of the line even though I had a confirmed appointment at 11:45 am. Needless to say, I'll be back for the other two maintenance visits but unless they improve on their wait time I will not return as a "paying" customer. read more

I am just astounded by the team at City Limits Nissan. My first encounter was September of 2025, after I purchased a 2020 Kicks from Austin Subaru that was a total lemon. The warning lights immediately came on despite the fact the sales people advised I couldn't pick it up for 3 more days, while they did a service check on the vehicle. Upon picking up the car, the warning lights came on immediately. The service people at Austin Subaru said it would cost me $250 for them to do a check so I asked for the nearest dealer which was City Limits Nissan. My service guy at City Limits, Jay Carlos, found the problem that Subaru said was on me as I bought the car AS IS. After taking the advice from Jay and despite having additional warranty coverage, when the problems I was initially having with this vehicle, Jay suggested that the dealership must have deliberately failed to do a proper check on the vehicle which was going to cost me $3,000 for a new camera that uses sensors for the safety features, with no guarantees that additional repairs may or may not be needed. I had already been burned by Austin Subaru located on Burnett and was beside myself at this stage with a loss of downpayment of $7000. However, looking at my finances and the fact my extended warranty would not kick in until 30 days and 3000 miles, I purchased a brand new 2026 Kicks. The sales team including Torin went over and beyond the normal salesman pitch, exactly opposite of the team at Austin Subaru who's finance guy required an additional $1000 for a paint coating as well as EXTRAS that were not needed during that purchase, when I declined, they said it's our policy and you cannot refuse. I will never go back to Austin Subaru. Poor customer service and obviously lying about the condition of the used 2020 Kicks. I'm glad I found a home at City Limits Nissan and really glad I purchased this new 2026 Kicks from them. Not only do I feel safer in this car, although I'm still learning the safety technology, it's pretty cool and a major gas saver. What else can I say. I will be a returning customer. TOTALLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT USE AUSTIN SUBARU FOR YOUR VEHICLE NEEDS. THEY ARE A RIP OFF. Oh and when I asked about the lemon law, the finance guy again threw the "Bought As Is" document that I signed, so these guys are pretty shady. read more

Had to update the review. While i really enjoy the people at this place and love my car and love what they do for the community, I couldn't help but feel a bit like I was almost taken for a ride with them. Don't get me wrong, they do great work but as I approached the end of my 3 year base warranty for my Forester(that I love), I chose to upgrade to Subarus gold plus plan. As a fan of their community work, their pupper Rally and the rad Ken Block mural and having purchased the vehicle there, I went to Austin Subaru to inquire about adding this protection to my vehicle. While the financing person was beyond friendly, I was shocked when I heard the cost for the Gold Plus warranty. I was even more shocked when I went online to research and found that this was a Subaru warranty that dealerships put out to their own prices, and you could purchase this at ANY dealership in the state as long as your vehicle was within the three years and use it at any authorized Subaru dealership in the continental United States. With that in mind, I called six dealerships from Austin to Houston to San Antonio with the exact same terms I was looking for and every single dealership beat Austin Subaru by a minimum of 800 dollars, with the one I went with going for 1200 less. When I called the financing person back and asked if there was any pricing flexibility, I was politely told that there wasn't and they could just drop the years instead. I went with the other dealership and I admit, they earned a look the next time I shop or recommend a Subaru. So, while I ultimately got the Subaru warranty I wanted, and I understand a place has to make some money, I'd be lying if I didn't say I didn't feel super valued for the huge markup and lack of flexibility for a dealership I've recommended to everyone who would listen by word of mouth and social media for the last three years. I was even willing to pay a few hundred over the bottom line price I got from another dealer for this warranty just because I like these folks at Austin Subaru so much, but again was disappointed with the lack of flexibility. I'd recommend anyone to come here to buy a car and to get service, because the people and facility are top notch, but I really can't get behind that large of a markup for a warranty, especially one set by the dealership and especially one presented to someone who purchased their vehicle at said dealership. Parasitic Drain, Parasitic Service I rolled up to Subaru, trunk messed up, Expecting top-notch service, but got bad luck. Heard they're all about that customer care, But what I got was a complete nightmare. Waited around for twenty long minutes, Finally got my car, but what a letdown. They swore they checked everything, battery too, But it was dead, not a clue. Some fancy inspection, yeah right, How's my battery dead? What a mess. Parasitic drain or just plain incompetence? In their own service center, it was quite bizarre, I became the mechanic there, no help from afar. For thirty minutes, I worked in vain, So weird, I had to jump-start my own car. Avoid this place, my trust in Subaru's now shattered, Their service team? My faith in them is tattered. Addendum; Chris Sutton was my service person. Where's the love Austin Subaru? Last night I was stranded, and frankly a bit scared. It had gotten dark, my car wouldn't start and I had no one to call. New vehicles as most of you know don't operate like the old ones. My car could not even be locked if I was inclined to leave it. I have a late model Subaru with a new battery and I keep excellent care of my car. I've never missed maintenance, rotating the tires or keeping it clean. I never buy cheap gas. So I called Subaru to ask if they could recommend a roadside service. The person I spoke to said I just needed to get my vehicle towed and that was the depth of her willingness to help. As it turned out, My 'new' battery was dead that I bought from Austin Subaru was dead. I had stepped away from my car for not more than 10 minutes so I am still perplexed. Austin Subaru, a new Subaru dealership just opened in Buda, and guess what, they wash your car instead of sending you to a dump down the road in the name of being 'green'. What a load. I will be going to Buda from this point forward. Your callousness lost a customer. I'm sure the people that spend an ENTIRE day sitting in your service waiting room won't mind and it's clear that you don't care. I bought my car from you. But I won't be back. My partner and I both have Subarus and we both love coming to this dealership in particular. We've been to several others before but this one really stands out with its fantastic staff, service, and everyone's favorite coffee bar. I loved working with Jade to find my next vehicle. Even during times of covid, I felt pretty safe since everyone was wearing masks and there were tons of hand sanitizer everywhere. Jade is very personable, professional, and knowledgeable about not only the vehicle features themselves, but also the financing process. There were a few hiccups along the way, but she went out of her way to make it really easy for me. I'm also glad I had the follow-up delivery specialist appointment with Jesse. He really knew the ins and outs of my new Subaru and how it compared to my old one. He showed me a few shortcuts that make my daily ride significantly more enjoyable. Overall, this dealership makes sure you feel taken care of and it is conveniently located in a central location. read more
