First time here, myself and a group came In for lunch after reading up on the reviews. First…read moreimpression was this place must be good, they have a line of hungry diners and each table was taken. We were greeted as we came in and told to check out the menu and join the line when we were ready to order. Tables were on a first come first served basis. The server on floor was a man of many suits is what my granddad said. He juggled hosting, clearing tables, taking orders, food delivery service, phone orders, and serving meals. His service was very efficient and hospitable. Their menu is expansive which made deciding both easy and hard for most of us since their whole menu sounded great. We all ended up with their top sellers, the server knowing it was our first time to Hawaii recommended this famous Hawaiian dish. Something about hearing homemade gravy and burger patties along with runny eggs sounds too good to miss out on, with being name Loco Moco, what's not to try? Their famous smoked pork (what they are known for) glazed with this sweet pineapple sauce with a nice punch of heat was definitely a highlight for everyone at the table. We also got the Korean style beef ribs that's served on a hot skillets. The aroma filled the restaurant and definitely captured everyone's attention, this by far was my favorite thing on our table aside from the coconut cake which we had for dessert (Justin, tell your sister I need the recipe!). For seafood we got the Ahi katsu salad (we had to be somewhat healthy lol) it was nice and crispy on the outside. Sauces complemented the juicy flavorful dish so well. I never had papaya seed dressing before until today and I ended up buying my own at Safeway! Sweet, tangy, refreshing paired well with the fish. Hurricane mochi chicken was juicy on the outside and the crispy skin was coated with Hurricane sauce (Teri aioli sauce) so good my nephew bought a bottle to take home. Overall the food was amazing. Server checked on us several times, offering to go plates if you need them ( we didn't need it, we had a proper "mopsesh" ) Disclaimer: They serve their food on paper plates, trust me the food taste better on these plates. The locals next to us said that's what you call a plate lunch while watching our food hit the table Overall experience was great, the service was impressive, the food was amazing, and the place was neat and clean. Thank you Justin for sharing a piece of your family with mines. We will definitely be returning on our next trip. Congratulations with the restaurant expanding as well! You guys are an inspiration! PS: While you wait for your food, read up on their wall and learn a bit of Hawaiian History. They also have a portrait of Sparky's himself.

We've been coming here for years and I've always enjoyed my experiences here, but last night I had a dish that compelled me to write a review. The oxtail soup which is listed as a favorite is a dish I've been eyeing for a while, but it's usually been too warm for me to crave it. But last night was the night. I'm getting over a cold and it's been raining off and on for weeks. The bowl arrived at the table with a plate underneath - smart move because it takes some work to eat oxtail soup. Armed with my fork and spoon, I went at it. The first taste floored me. It was perfectly seasoned and I could taste the fresh ginger, the broth was a beautiful brown color, there was plenty of napa cabbage and it came with a dish of a scoop of glossy steamed rice and steamed carrots, zucchini and broccoli. Our waitress offered to bring over condiments so I went for the soy sauce - sprinkled on the rice and veggies, I noticed that the veggies might have had a little sesame oil flavor on them so that made me happy. A spoonful of rice dunked into the broth with some of the tender fall of the bone oxtail meat, and a little crunch of the napa cabbage and I was in absolute heaven. I tasted my husband's pork adobo and that was equally as delicious as always. But that soup - that's what really did it for me last night and stays with me today. I walked out of Tante's with a swollen and happy belly and a fresh, tiny piece of ginger stuck between my teeth...a treat for later.

I feel like Like Poke was one of the original food trucks on Maui -- long before food trucks…read morestarted popping up everywhere. They've been part of the island's food scene for over 12 years now, and I still remember their off-the-beaten-path spot on Hobron Avenue in Kahului. You would have never guessed there was delicious food being served up there, but those who knew, knew. These days, you can find them in Kahului parked at Da Tambayan Corner on Lono Avenue, or sometimes popping up out at Ho'okipa. Now, full disclosure -- I don't eat raw fish, so I can't personally vouch for their poke bowls, but that's what they're known for and I've had a number of friends and family enjoy it. What I can vouch for, though, is their fried poke -- perfectly seasoned ahi cubes, floured and fried, served over rice and lettuce, and drizzled with a creamy mayo aioli. Get it hurricane style for extra sauce and furikake seasoning -- it's delicious and gives it an extra boost as once in a while it's on the drier side. Another favorite is the poke bake, which is just as satisfying and generously portioned. Started getting this recently and it hits the spot. Highly recommend either dish, especially if you're like me and prefer your fish cooked. And whatever you do, don't skip the furikake fries -- curly fries topped with aioli and furikake. SO good. Beyond the great food, my team has worked with Like Poke for company events, and they're always a hit. Friendly service and consistent quality eats that keep people coming back -- they're a favorite among locals for a reason.
