We are still nervous about dining during Covid and asked for a very distanced table -- and got an amazing one farthest from all, quietly situated on the wraparound patio on the side street. We shared the lobster tagliatelle(which came beautifully divided for two--plenty for both with tons of lobster) and dry aged strip steak (which came sliced to order, perfectly medium rare). I had been to Avalon three or four times and while I was not a regular patron I did like the restaurant and was disappointed that the restaurant concept was changing but it changed for the better. The restaurant no longer has an overly formal feeling and that might be better for locals and tourists alike. But; Because there is spillover and no delineation from the crowded bar area, the restaurant might seem too loud or downmarket for what some might consider pricey dining but that was okay by me, especially since most of the food and service were excellent. What needs improvement is the plating and presentation of the food especially to compensate for the bar feel. We tried several items and a Short Rib Ragu was excellent with a nice light sauce and a Whipped Ricotta appetizer was also very good but what's up with the small portion sizes? A Tuna Poke appetizer was a failure with chewy tuna. Overall Avalon Beach House was very good and while not perfect it is new so there are kinks to be worked out. read more

It took a while for our waiter to come to our table given that there were only like 7 tables occupied on the floor. We selected our entrees and got some bread and amazing butter as a start. The food was all absolutely amazing. You get a 3 course meal: appetizer, main dish, and dessert. I got the chicken as my main item and it was okay. My husband got the steak and it was amazing. I wish I got that instead. For the dessert, I got the lemon bar, which essentially was like a key lime pie and amazing. My husband got a chocolate lava cake with ice cream and he really liked it. I will say that there was a group of people at the bar that were super loud and obnoxious (a group of people at least 20 years older than me), but the rest of the restaurant's environment was pleasant. Maybe it needed a squeeze of lemon? For dinner I ordered the halibut and it was incredible. Loved every bite. The hubs had the NY strip and he highly recommends it. True steakhouse quality steak. For sides we got the creamed spinach. Absolutely loved it. Sometimes it's all cream ... this had the perfect ratio of cream/spinach. We also got a plate of fries. We're fry people (unfortunately ) and these were terrible. We were expecting the hand-cut style fries you get at most other steakhouses. These seemed like store bought frozen fries - the kind I have in my freezer. We'd skip them next time. Did I mention the warm bread basket with slightly salted honey butter. OMG. Delicious. Went on a Sunday for dinner while on vacation. I was excited because the reviews were amazing. The food was fantastic!! I got the Branzino and my boyfriend got the NY strip. The tuna tartare app and key lime pie dessert were also amazing. I was somewhat disappointed with our server. He wasn't very friendly and barely interacted with us. He didn't even ask how our food was. Thankfully the support staff were very on top of things but I had read how great the service is so was disappointed. Another reason for 4/5 stars is because the tables are too close together. We were enjoying our meal until a group of guys sat next to us and we could hear every word they said. Had to listen to them complain about their corporate jobs and their spouses the whole time. I wanted to ask to move but didn't want to be rude to our server and move to a new section. Starting off with bread for the table, it was an incredible choice of bread for that restaurant. Very unusual, unique and delicious. The one outstanding dish that one of the four of us , was lobster tagliatelle. Rather than go into the other dishes, I think that your foodies should experience the menu on your own. I made a reservation for us earlier in the week. They called and sent a text confirmation which I thought was nice. We were greeted and seated right away when we came in. Started with the burrata which was amazing! We ended up asking for more bread so we could finish all the sauce leftover on the plate it was THAT good! We both ordered steaks. One surf and turf special and one regular filet. Both were cooked to perfection. We also ordered a side of broccolini which was spicy and delicious. The wine selection was great as well but the dessert course was the standout. Our server was phenomenal and recommended the blueberry ice cream. I would just come back for the ice cream by itself. It tasted like a blueberry pie! The coconut cheesecake was also delicious. The reason for my 4.5 star rating was that it was so hot inside while we were eating it was sort of uncomfortable. I did ask the manager about the AC and he said they were having issues and did apologize. We also sat by the front patio door that was opening and closing frequently so that didn't help. Overall the food, service and experience was fantastic. As far as COVID stuff is concerned, they are not observing any standards. No masks and no distancing. I had the most wonderful time at Avalon, my friend and I came for their "Dine out Delray" menu. What really brought my experience to the next level was the staff. First, we were greeted by the hostess and the manager then our sever and his team really took the experience to the next level. Every time we took a few sips of water someone came over to refill our glasses, the food runners were friendly and even the manager sat with us to make sure we were doing okay. It's amazing how exceptional customer service can make your day. We arrived on Saturday at peak dinner time. The place was packed, and there was a 30 minute wait for a table. However, the hostess was friendly and upon hearing we had reservations and it was our last night in town, she quickly moved to accommodate us. She found us a table at the farthest reaches of the restaurant, but nonetheless, our server met us there almost instantly to take care of us. Shortly afterwards, the manager stopped by to ask how things were going. We shared some pleasant conversation and he assisted with recommendations. We may have been at the last table at the far end of the outdoor patio, but we felt as if we were the center of attention. Kudos to the entire staff for their superb level of service.
