This was one of the most uncomfortable dining experiences I've had, and it left me seriously questioning how customers are treated here. My waiter, Ardit, repeatedly walked past me without acknowledgment while actively serving other tables. I waited longer than I should have just to be acknowledged, and when I finally got his attention, he responded in a dismissive tone, saying he had "other people," instead of simply doing his job or communicating professionally. The difference in how I was treated compared to others around me did not go unnoticed. It felt selective and honestly very uncomfortable. I spoke with the manager, Katelyn, expecting some level of understanding or accountability. Instead, she immediately defended him, saying he was "one of their best servers," completely dismissing my experience rather than addressing it. There was no real attempt to resolve the issue beyond that. To their credit, my meal was comped which clearly shows something went wrong but that doesn't excuse how the situation was handled. What made things worse was the attitude. When I said I would be documenting my experience, I was met with a sarcastic "do what you have to do," which only reinforced the lack of professionalism. Comping a meal doesn't erase the experience. The overall treatment felt dismissive, inconsistent, and concerning. I left feeling uncomfortable rather than valued as a customer. read more

We also tried the fish and chips, which was quite good; however, the cole slaw had a strong fishy taste. The service was good, and the spicy margarita was enjoyable. During Boston's Restaurant Week 2023, I stopped by Avenue One for weekday lunch. $32 got me clam chowder and a short rib sandwich. The clam chowder cup ended up forgettable and nothing out-of-the-ordinary. Both the regular price of $12 and the restaurant week bundle seemed steep. The short rib sandwich fared better. The short rib seemed quite tender. I do wish the horseradish aioli were stronger; it only seemed to come through in about a third of the sandwich. Otherwise, the fries were decently cooked with a good crispness and the right amount of salt. The sandwich is normally priced at $22, but it felt more like something that should be around $18, plus factoring in any hotel surcharges that might apply, which is understandable. read more

Our last night in Boston and we just wanted to chill in the hotel here at the Hyatt Regency. To be honest, we've tried most of the recommended places to eat when visiting Boston either through Yelp, YouTube, Trip Advisor and Google and it's been a hit or miss. Little did we know that one of the best foods here in this town was just right below our hotel room. Yes - Avenue One! The food here is excellent. Don't let the overall 3 star rating tell you otherwise. Their fish and chips rocks! Perfectly seasoned generous haddock is lightly breaded and crisp to perfection. The Mongolian steak is one of the better Asian inspired steaks I've had for a while. Could easily be a dish in Morimotos kitchen. Lastly their gnocchi is to die for with the light lemon flavor. You also get a $10 credit when staying at the hotel. A definite 5 star worthy review. read more

Fancy looking with pleasant staff (although either they need more staff or they are a bit slow). I got the Boston Burger and Fries. The french fries were pretty good. I'm not a big fan of hotel restaurants in the States, as many of them are overpriced and underwhelming. Avenue One was no exception. The caesar salad was acceptable as there was enough cheese. However, the singular anchovy provided was tart and taste resembled more of a herring. The Argentinean steak frites had five steak medallions. The problem was that the size of each medallion was different and I could tell they were all cooked and removed from the fire at the same time. Therefore the cooking temperatures varied. Some were overcooked, some were just right and one was on the rare side. Plus they came a bit on the cold side. The steak was rather under seasoned and the salsa wasn't of much help. The fries were passable. Service was fine though I was left alone for the most far. You can do better around here. read more

The service was horrendous. We had some chowder and waited for our guests ( 4 of us in total) . Took them 15 minutes to bring me a hot tea. When we FINALLY got someone's attention and ordered: 1.Fish & chips, 1. Caesar salad 1.Tomato flat bread The order went in at 9:32pm and our food didn't arrive until 10:20pm !We kept checking on it and they kept saying it's coming it's coming. I stayed at the Hyatt over the weekend and this restaurant was in our hotel. Very nice atmosphere, it was as classy as you would expect from a hotel restaurant. The staff were very accommodating and did a great job making sure we were happy and taken care of on a busy Saturday night. Proximity is nice, as it was short elevator ride down to the restaurant. I will say that prices were steep for some pretty basic entrees and drinks that should've ideally been less expensive than they were. I ended up ordering a BBQ Chicken Flatbread and the flavor was incredibly delicious. (Granted I was about four or five drinks deep.) It was the perfect blend of chicken, onions, barbecue sauce, blue cheese, and cheeses. But again with the prices, I paid $12 for it and finished it in about a minute and a half, and was left a bit hungry. I am planning on most likely staying in this hotel again on my next trip to Boston, but I will probably go somewhere a bit better. (As per my fellow Yelpie's help, of course!) read more

The first night the bartender was not very friendly and curt. Luckily our last visit was much better with a vibrant bartender who checked on us often. Oh Avenue One. You're like that really awkward date that somehow turned out a really great kiss at the end of the night. My experience started out all wrong. The restaurant accidently canceled a couple days before my Restaurant Week reservation. When I called to see what was up, the woman apologized profusely but almost ended the call without getting my name or the number of people in my party. LIke Jenna commented, it's not really a restaurant.. it's like a weird set of tables attached to the lounge area. When I arrived with my friend, we walked past the host stand because we had no idea that was supposed to be the restaurant. The hostess was a friendly woman. She took my last name and wrote it on a post it. When we were seated the waiter greeted me using my last name, which I thought was a nice personal touch, but I think the efforts should have been focused on the service rather than trying to pronounce my Italiany Spanishy last name. My water was refilled once, and that was only after requested. The eggplant napoleon seemed like something I could have made at home and was served lukewarm. My steak was cooked on the rare side when I asked for medium well. It also had quite a bit of fat on it. The amount of thin french fries was overwhelming and I felt like it was placed strategically to hide the steak fat. But the dessert.. a chocolate mousse with raspberry sauce.. was amazing! I really wish I had the dessert first.. I think it may have helped the rest of the meal. I wonder if this is their real service or if this is how they treat "kids" like me during Restaurant Week. Also.. splitting the check was a bit of a hassle. It took awhile and the manager explained that it was "weird" for him to do it.. although he did it gladly. They all just seemed very scattered. It's a hotel restaurant and it screams hotel restaurant the whole way. It doesn't even have a door so when you're eating, you see people walking to the elevators, checking in and whatever other clutter goes on in a hotel lobby. They started to drag the piano out later and it clunked all over the place. Service was ok. Food was eh. The special was pretty good - there was a veal chop with some scallops. The veal was like a well seasoned steak, but pretty tender. I didn't eat the scallops but everyone around me yummed it up. The clam chowder was underwhelming. Chunky but almost in a bad way. The spinach salad could have been good. The addition of the pearl onions was nice, the sun-dried tomato dressing was tangy. The olives didn't fit and made the salad fall apart in taste. The boston cream pie was pretty tasty - a little wobbly but tasty. Unless you're stuck in the hotel, I'd say venture outside and find a meal that's less than $30 and tastes better! read more

The atmosphere and well-versed staff of Avenue One deserve high marks. My husband and I were greeted by a very friendly host, and our server was personable and knowledgeable; my questions about a few menu items were no problem for him to answer. Our appetizers arrived - the cheese plate for me, featuring three Cheddars, fruit, and ciabatta bread, and the poached shrimp with horseradish aioli for my husband. The food was just lovely, as was the garlic bread with butter. My cheese plate was a range of mild to very sharp Cheddar, and the presentation was gorgeous despite the plate being long and awkward on our little table. My husband's shrimp was very tasty, and the horseradish aioli was fresh and pungent without being overpowering. Unfortunately, the main entrees did not live up to our expectations. I ordered a sirloin steak with caramelized onions and broccoli rabe; the steak was cooked correctly and had a good crust, but was far too chewy, even for a sirloin. The broccoli was cold. I also ordered the risotto, which was stiff and unpalatable. My husband ordered the salmon, which was presented in a honey-soy glaze over brown rice with bok choy. It had a great taste and sufficient spice, but was overcooked. Dessert was fantastic - we shared the Eggnog Cheesecake, which was velvety and very rich, and perfect for sharing. Our server did not seem to notice that I did not eat much of my dinner, but remained polite and friendly despite the oversight. I wouldn't completely write off Avenue One. It definitely has potential for a great date-night dinner, but it really missed the mark with both the salmon and steak over Valentine's Day weekend. read more

Had a reservation for 9:30 pm on a Tuesday. We arrived a few minutes late since the theater ran long. Great location in relation to the Opera House, within a minute's walk. In hindsight, wouldn't need a reservation since there was no one else there! We started with the NE Crab Cakes and Beef Chili. The crab cakes were excellent although quite small at $17 for two cakes; each being he size of a half dollar. The chili was ok, fairly unremarkable. Complimentary bread was delivered to the table as well, very soft with good flavor. For our entrees we both ordered the 6 oz filet with potatoes, it was delicious. Properly prepared and excellent flavor. The menu doesn't state it, but the dish comes with asparagus in addition to the potatoes, so that was a nice surprise. We didn't stay for dessert or have drinks so I can't attest to those. Overall we were pleased, excellent service and the bill came to $100 before tip. We would've liked to have seen a lower bill, but it is in the heart of Boston so what else can you really expect. read more

Nope. There's no view. None. That's ok. That's actually better than ok. Did you really want to sip your craft cocktail or eat your delicious tapas while enjoying the sights and sounds of the outskirts of Chinatown? Didn't think so. Moreover, do you want the hustlers and bustlers of Chinatown staring at you while you make merry? Didn't think so either. The secluded nature of the terrace works in its favor-You get all the breeziness of outdoor seating but you still get the more private atmosphere of a cocktail lounge. Come late July, when you want to enjoy the weather but you don't want to sweat in your suit coat or pumps or whatever your post work gear may be, you'll be thanking me for recommending this shady paradise. White sangria was good, red sangria was great. Sapphire tea (an iced tea made with, you guessed it, Bombay Sapphire-be still my heart!) was an excellent combination of refreshing and lethal-perfect for celebrating the end of a stressful work week. I'll never complain about $4.00 Dos Equis or $4.00 bar bites either, especially when they are served by the sweetest little waitstaff around (That made me sound like a dirty old man. I'm not. Quite the opposite-check the picture. Still, I stand by my original statement. These girls rule.) Bottom line-The terrace offers it all-outdoor seating, an upscale vibe and cheap eats and drinks. People should be scaling the building to be a part of my little cave of happy hour fun...but please don't, it might be a little difficult to find but I assure you the elevator is a far better option. read more

My first experience at Avenue One Terrace was great. Perfect early summer weather, perfect tunes, perfect drinks. As has been stated, this is not a roofdeck, but that's cool with me. The live music keeps out the hustle and bustle of Chinatown/Theater District and creates a really nice atmosphere. The chef bites ($4 on Thursdays and Friday from 5-7) are delish. I really liked the eggplant in filo dough and the fish tacos were tasty, although messy. $4 Dos Equis are always on tap, meaning that this is a nice cheap way to start out a Thursday or Friday night with friends, lovers, and second cousins. The service here is on point. My waitress was constantly bringing glasses of red sangria (deliciously dangerous) and she showed up exactly when she was needed. The specialty drink menu looks pretty awesome, I had the Sapphire Tea. Tea and Gin? This is going to be a great summer. read more

I decided to come here for a lovely date only to be disappointed. For a restaurant with this sort of price range, I expected more. Not only was the food a disappointment but also service was absolutely horrible. This restaurant really needs Food Network's Restaurant Stakeout to come for some intervention! Food: I had the lobster and crab fondue for appetizer. I thought the appetizer was pretty good. The fondue was more creamy than cheesy. There were big chunks of lobster in it. The taste was really flavorful. It comes with baguette crispy yet soft slices to dip in the fondue. For my entree, I ordered the NY sirloin steak and the order comes with toppings, sauce, and a side. I topped it with zucchini and onions, with soy honey glaze, and quinoa risotto as the side. I requested the steak to be medium rare, however, it came out to be medium well. The soy honey glaze was a little overpowering. It was too salty and lacked the honey flavor I was looking for. Drinks: I ordered the diamond sangria (red). It tasted delicious. But was a little weak :P. Dealing with the horrible service at this restaurant, I wished I had a few more drinks. Service: I do not know where to start. The service here was so horrible. It took over 10 minutes after we were seated before our server came to ask us for our drinks. Our server was friendly but she was always nowhere to be found throughout the whole time I was dining at the restaurant. The appetizer took forever to be served. Then the entree took even more time. Come to think of it, maybe my steak was actually cooked to medium rare but because the server did not bring it immediately and was sitting in the kitchen for so long that it became medium well. What had been a hour long dinner became almost 2 hours + long! The important part is the restaurant was not busy at all! There was probably 5 tables max with 3 servers working! After dinner and it was time for our check, we also waited patiently for our server to come. However, we gave up waiting and decided to go up to the front of the restaurant to pay only to learn that the hostess was disappeared also! When we finally found our server, she gave us our check and added 18% gratuity to our bill. I am pretty sure she knows how bad of a server she was and was afraid that we would not leave her any tips. Atmosphere: I really liked the tall ceilings and the ambiance and decor of this restaurant. The furnitures are also really nice. Not sure what it's like the other 364 days of the year, but I have to put in my two cents: $55 for all you can eat Easter Brunch which contained: Roasted Lamb - was kind of dry...disappointing Roast Beef - average - went twice Cocktail Shrimp - VERY large shrimp....definitely had my fill Smoked Salmon - don't be tempted by the bagels and cream cheese - it's only filler Oysters - small, but about average for oysters (not too salty)...I had about 20-25 of these. GO...Being Asian!! Made to order omelets - stayed away from this. Made to order French Toast...My Favorite!!!! Crazy Desert Room - ice cream, small cakes, crepes, etc....nuff said. Is it worth the $55? Let's just say I got my moneys worth in shrimp and oyster form. Came here last night (Monday) for dinner. Despite it being Restaurant Week it was pretty empty at 8:30. The restaurant is nice. Cool decor, really high ceilings and really open. They were out of our first choice of wine so had to settle for second choice. For an apetizer we both got the chicken tortilla soup which I thought was good. It came with the broth in a separate little collander which I thought was cool. It did say there was avocado in it - and if there was it was very little of it. For dinner I got the roasted chicken. It was really tender and came with camelized onions - delicious. It also came with a side of mashed potatoes - not amazing, but good. My date got the fisherman's pie. It seemed pretty interesting - shrimp, cod, scallops, and lobster topped with parmesan crusted mashed potatoes. He said it was definitely different - good but again not amazing. For dessert I chose some pear cobbler type of thing. We probably should have tried it as soon as it came out when it was still warm. We let it sit for a while so that was probably the reason for it not tasting too good. All in all, good food, great service, and a cool spot for a nice dinner. read more

Avenue One is on the 3rd floor of the Hyatt hotel in the theater district. The tables are set up in a little nook that resembles a hotel waiting area rather than a restaurant. The kitchen is no where to be found and they had a huge projector screen at one end projecting photos of leaves and berries all night. I shit you not. I look up from my eggplant napoleon (which was ice cold in the middle) and I see a huge 6 foot maple leaf. WTF? Who thought that was a good idea? We ordered off the restaurant week menu which looked very promising. I ordered the halibut, which was overcooked along with limp asparagus and lobster mashed potatoes. There were nice sized chunks of lobster in the mashed, but everything tasted oily, greasy, or heated up in the microwave. My boyfriend ordered a steak that came out laden with fat and a mound of greasy fries. He said they tasted like the canned potato sticks, deep fried. Gross. The only thing I really enjoyed was the dessert: A obviously store bought apple tart with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. But how can you mess that up? Not impressed. read more

I wish we'd been able to go outside. Alas, as our Miss Thing about Town put it, it was "boiling lava hot", so we went inside to use her groupon. Part of me is glad we did, because we wouldn't have gotten to seen the hottest mess I've seen in a long time at a bar: a middle aged couple making out with full-on tongues in ears and what not, and the perfect topper to the end of that session when the lady said "Nice to have met you" as she left the guy at the bar playing with his blackberry. Our bartender was about a 40-watt, but he kept the beers coming, even if he did forget what I was drinking every time he pulled me a new one. The bar bites, however, were delicious. The tender and well-prepared steak tip appetizer came with a lovely cheese fondue which we misappropriated in our quest to create Cholestotron, the evil robot that slams your arteries shut. Together with Old Bay fries, the delicious white wine and butter sauce that accompanied the tender and perfect shrimp scampi, and some grated parmesan cheese, we brought Cholestotron to life and he had his wicked ways with our LDLs. Saturday my family and I dined here after seeing a show at the Boston Opera House. My friend, who was in the show was going to be joining us so we needed something close. When I was doing the leg work for dinner, and came across Avenue One, I was not only pleased with the menu but also the location. But whenever I found out it was in the Hyatt, I was a little skeptical I won't lie. But don't ever judge a book by its cover. After arriving to Avenue One, I was pleasantly surprised by the space and the decor. It's got a very modern feel to it, and the bar is what welcomes you, so you can't go wrong there. They brought us to our table, which happened to be the largest table there. We were a party of five but this style table was meant for a party of 10. We weren't even seated for 5 minutes until we kindly asked the hostess if we could move to a more intimate space. They moved us without an issue into something a little more cozy. We were given two menus, an al carte and the pre fixe menu. I had already scanned the menu online and came to conclusion about what I wanted. But whenever the pre fixe menu was placed in front of me and I saw the pumpkin cheesecake as a dessert option, my current thought process was thrown off a little bit. I was willing to switch it up though. Three of us did the pre fixe menu while the other two ordered off the al la carte. For the pre fixe menu, we all ordered the A1 locally grown greens, cucumbers, heirloom tomatoes and white balsamic dressing, as our first course. It was a rather boring salad I won't lie but decent nonetheless. Two of us for our entrees got the salmon with pumpkin risotto and the other entree was streak with spinach and mascarpone mashed potatoes. Yes you heard me right!! Although they were lacking in flavor, the mascarpone could have had a better stage presence. The salmon was prepared nicely and topped with chopped tomatoes, which you may not think would accent pumpkin risotto well but it did. The al la carte entrees were: Brazilian Salad avocado, hearts of palm, orange, Brazilian nuts, passion fruit-mango dressing and Grilled Beef Filet pan roasted potato, grilled portabella, merlot demi glaze. The salad was enough to be a meal and he didn't even add any extra protein to it. If one was to add a little extra you could get by on this alone. They also didn't skimp on the brazilian nuts which is a stand out in my book. The steak was gobbled up, so I'm assuming it was good. My brother doesn't like portabella mushrooms but I had him get them and give them to me. They must have been marinating in the demi glaze because they were full of flavors, sauteed to perfection and melted in your mouth. Now onto the best part of the meal! Dessert! Since three of us had dessert with our meal, we went for 2 pumpkin cheesecakes and one peach cobbler. The additional dessert was the Chocolate Bread Pudding served warm with vanilla ice cream. The pumpkin cheesecake of course was a seasonal item. The texture of the cake was not like cheesecake at all in fact but more like a brownie cake like texture but it was fabulous. The pumpkin flavor was certainly present, as it should have been and each bite was better than the next. Topped with some homemade whipped cream, it couldn't have been better. The peach cobbler was rather blah in my book. It was your typically cobbler and if I didn't know any better I would think that the peaches came straight from a can. The Chocolate Bread pudding was also just okay. I'm a huge chocolate fan so I figured regardless this was an item I was going to enjoy. But when I didn't go back for seconds, I think that said enough. For a restaurant being in a hotel, I was very impressed. The service was attentive and more than accommodating for us. We had a reservation for 5:30 and while it wasn't busy when we were first arrived by the time we were heading out the place was starting to fill up. I would really only suggest this place if you were in the same type situation as I was, looking for something close and delicious, otherwise I think there are plenty more delicious restaurants in Boston. read more

I went to Avenue One for lunch with a friend about two weeks ago. For drinks, I had a glass of wine, while my friend had a very well made martini. My friend ordered the New England Clam Chowder and the Lobster Gruyere Grilled Cheese sandwich. According to my foodie friend, the lobster was very fresh. I ordered the Argentenian Steak with parmesan french fries. It was absolutely delicious!! The Sous Chef came over to chat with us, and my friend learned a new technique to cook lobster. The meal was absolutely wonderful, and we enjoyed every bite of our lunch, and every sip of our drink! The service was amazing, and the location was great for both of us! My one issue is that the waiter didn't ask me how I would like my steak. I had to flag him down to make sure the steak was well done. read more

The food was terrible, tiny portions, and it tasted odd. The salad was literally 3 pieces of lettuce and a can of chickpeas. Also the Katsu Chicken just was just a dried out chicken beast with a balsamic sauce. It was terrible. If you can walk or eat anywhere else, please do so. read more
