The menu used to give you the choice of full or 1/2 chicken but It looks like they recently updated their menu so I'll be curious to see if the new option is only the 1/2 portion. I am also a big fan of their salads. Very fresh tasting produce, and the grilled chicken they use is excellent. Large portions too. The Asian dressing is really good. Their soups are homemade and usually feature chicken. Only 1 kind per day. I love the minestrone and the chicken Rosa marina which both taste like a grandmas homemade veggie soup with some chicken and a little bit of pasta. Totally comforting. Ribs are standard Greek style ribs, more baked then smoked but still really tasty if you like that style. Bbq sauce is nice and tangy. Pitas aren't very exciting, just taste like store bought but they do come with most entrees and salads.Haven't tried other Greek food yet, so can't advise on that. This place rocks. Love love love the gyros and chicken gyros too. So moist and flavorful with freshly grilled pita bread, da bomb. I tried the half slab ribs once and it too was delicious. It came with mashed potatoes which were creamy and buttery. On another visit I had the regular gyros plate and again it was juicy flavorful topped with onions, tomato slices and their tatziki sauce. There's a lot to choose from on the menu, and it's all prepared nicely. Walk up to the counter, order your food. You'll be handed a buzzer. Find yourself a table and help yourself to the Coke fountain. Pick up your food when the buzzer buzzes. One of the other reasons my lunch group likes this place is the variety of food available. There are salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers, hot dogs, pasta, barbecue, gyros, soups...a wide variety of food. I haven't had everything on their menu (yet), but I can recommend their steak grinder, gyros platter, and the burgers. My friends rave about the grilled chicken. Portions are HUGE here. Unless you're sharing or have a voracious appetite, there's a good chance you'll be taking some food home with you. There are carry out boxes available to pack up the leftovers. The dining room is big, but it does fill up during peak times. Prices may be a bit more than other restaurants with a similar menu, but the quality and quantity of the food justify the price. First time here. Their whole Greek chicken is extremely tender, juicy and flavorful and with the sides makes for a large meal. I like BYG. I'll talk about the food second. First, I order it on my phone using the UberEats app. I've probably had delivery a half dozen times now from UberEats. It's so convenient, the delivery is so fast, it couldn't be simpler. I don't care about the five dollar delivery fee, because finding parking in front of the restaurant, it is always a nightmare. I always tip the Uber driver, some people say you don't have to, some people say you should, I do it because I'm not a dick. You live in Highland Park too, just tip. My question is, from what I've read Uber takes a commission of roughly 30% off of the total bill. Isn't that horrible for the restaurant? Why doesn't the restaurant have its own internal online ordering with high school kids as delivery drivers. It would make me feel less guilty. Anyways, get the Greek salad with a side of Gyros. It comes with a pita and sauce, so you can pretend that you are eating healthy, but actually just have a Gyro sandwich and an awesome salad on the side. Best discovery of roasted chicken!! The guy and I LOVE chicken. It's probably not even right how much we love chicken. (If you keep up with my reviews, you may notice this trend.) The chicken is super savory, Greek style (I'm still not completely sure what this means completely, but I'll try to explain)- herbacious and juicy (I suspect we have a brine situation going on, so I would definitely support that) and just positively succulent. At least once we've ordered two chicken dinners so we'd have some the next day, and it absolutely held up. I'd love to use some of the chicken for soup or a rmmmf (that's a sound effect) chicken salad, but it just doesn't survive long enough to do that. The coleslaw that we've obtained with said chicken is ALSO delicious, if perfectly boring. It's not salty or seasoned too much. (I personally like it with a bit more pepper.) Our biggest sadness is that we didn't start coming here sooner, it's probably our most visited carry-out in the last six months! I should also mention they do a nearly football sized gyro. Also love the gyros. Again with the succulent gyro meat, and the pita.... /fans self. Absolutely recommend for the chicken and gyros, especially! read more

This is my second review for BYG. Whether you choose to dine in or carry out, I am still a fan. We usually don't know what we want so, we just drop in and the line goes very quickly. The menu is still very large and confusing but, we have our favs narrowed down so, we can order pretty quickly. FYI: they accept phone orders and I believe online orders for quicker service. We've enjoyed their full slab of ribs with 2 sides which is offered for under $20! A very good deal. BYG offers more "real" meals than just a quick burger or salad. Huge menu and huge portions to match! I had the baby beet salad which was delicious and enormous. I finished it even though I wasn't that hungry when I got here. The whole family had pounds of leftovers to take home, all for the price of a regular lunch. I do wish they had a few more vegetarian options besides salads, but otherwise this is a really great addition to DTHP, which is such a great center for casual cafes and family-friendly grills. What a disappointment for my favorite fast food spot. I went to order for a take out and as I was waiting for my order to be completed, I was watching the employee prepping celery. Now mind you, she was feet from the manager and right behind the glass in the front. She was not wearing a hairnet, nor gloves. That is bad enough, but she would cut the celery and then pick up the bunch that she completed with her bare hands, while taking a few to eat. And then start over again and keep picking up the completed prepped celery and help herself to some with her bare hands. Unfortunately, I will never go in there again. It was hot as heck outside... so I wanted a quick place inside to get cool after strolling the TAC (THE ART CENTER - Highland Park) Festival of Fine Crafts. Two blocks away from the crowd and no muss, no fuss! Hubby and I ventured in to BYG. We never tried it, but someone we know had a party and served their gyro's platter and other sides. It was all so delish, that we figured we would give the place a whirl. Not too crowded - check Cool inside - check great menu choices for a healthy (or not so healthy) lunch - check The only bad thing I can say is that the help never smiled. No one looked happy and the guy who took our order was just plain surly. But no biggie. You order at the window and get your food a few minutes later. No need to interact with the servers much at all. so... no muss, no fuss - check! Our food was great. You get huge portions. I had the greek salad with chicken on it. It was a huge grilled breast of chicken; juicy and tasty. AND you get a big soft pita with your salad. I loved it. Hubby got an italian beef which he said was quite tasty. He said his fries were just ok. I tasted them and thought they were good. I think hubby just likes things more salty than I do. Great food - check I think this place is a-ok. We will be back. I was impressed with the freshness of the food the first time I ate in the restaurant. We came back several times as a family and enjoyed our visit every time. The pandemic has forced us to order pickup so we tried BYG and found that they delivered the same quality and freshness that we came to expect before. Not only does the food taste great, the ordering and pickup has been spectacular! I am so impressed with the way these people handle the orders and tell me it will be ready in 20 minutes. I pull up and tell the person, who is usually waiting outside, my name. She comes out with my order and sure enough, it was 20 minutes exactly. No wonder it took 6 tries to get through on the phone.
