I went today, sunday morning, which felt brave bc I knew it'd be busy. Luckily, I got in line at a good moment before a big rush. I like that they have a handicap spot in the back bc I have trouble walking and st parking is not in abundance. It led easily to a back/side outdoor patio. The ordering process doesn't make much sense. You order on one side and then walk to the other side of the store to pay and wait for food. I asked about that and they just said 'it's how we do it in NY'. Ok lol. Also, the menu screens are not timed well-it shows different items on the left side of the room so when u order u dont see the full menu, and might see new items u could have ordered only when u arrive at the second register where u pay. Maybe u can add to ur order or change it there but I didnt try. I suggested they have both menus at the left when u first order but the employee just said 'we encourage u to walk around to see what we have before getting in line', essentially. Again, ok . At least the employees were all really nice, didnt feel stressed by the rush? As for the food, I really enjoyed my sesame bagel with tofu scallion shmear. It's very hard to find good vegan cream cheese and this is the best I've had. I like the big chunks of scallions too, u can tell they chopped it in-house (ie not from a container at the market). I want to come back and try their rainbow bagel, which I didn't see on their menu until the second register. I'll def come on a weekday to avoid the weekend rush. Hope they can streamline their ordering and paying service bc how it is right now doesn't make sense to me . read more

I went to bagel boss the other day, 20 minutes before close. They had locked the doors and were already cleaning up so they could all walk out the door the moment the clock hit closing time. I wasn't the only customer who tried to open the already locked door. Their social media manager got my previous review removed using false information. I did NOT have the wrong hours from online. I don't need to 'request an edit to the hour' on the Yelp page. I live right next door to the shop, I walk by it every day, and I can read the hours on the door. This is not a case of someone misunderstanding the hours. After trying to open the locked door, I looked right at the hours that are clearly posted on the door. Tried Bagel Boss for the very first time, with 4 bagels. I tried as an alternative to Noah's. At Noah's, when I order bagels, the server immediately puts them in by a bag, I pay, and I'm out. At Bagel Boss the server takes my order, takes my name, hangs my order, then someone else fills a bag. Why? This seems to slow down the process. But the big question is bagels. Very good bagels but they aren't quite up to a Noah's Bagel. But that's just my opinion. read more

FINALLY! A REAL New York bagel spot in Los Angeles. Bagel Boss is iconic in New York, especially on Long Island. As a born and raised New Yorker, it is so amazing to finally be able to get real bagels in this city. The owner of this location is from Long Island (Massapequa) and apparently they ship in the dough from New York. The result is bagels that are identical to what I grew up with on the east coast. Lots of variety to choose from, a large selection of various cream cheeses and deli salads done just right! My family used to bring in these bagels when they would visit as a little treat. Now, there is no need! There are quite a few new fancy bagel places that have opened up in town recently, but this is the ONLY place that does New York bagels justice - and they manage to keep the prices at normal bagel shop levels. Many places claim that they are New York Bagel, but they LIE! Bagel Boss does not! The Bagels have just right amount of crunch to them, so they are not just rolls with holes. But are sturdy enough to hold the copious amount of cream cheese. Speaking of which, they have a flavor not found on this coast: cinnamon raisin walnut!! When you order for here, service is decent at best. When your order is to go, it's awful. You open your bagel and there's hardly any cream cheese, hardly any meat, etc. The service just isn't where it needs to be unfortunately. One of the few places that has Taylor Ham and that was so exciting since Jersey has my heart. But it just isn't where it needs to be. Was hoping service and quality would get better but it has declined again. Major bummer. Going to give it some time before I go back to see if it improves. read more

Actually the worst customer service I've ever experienced! After reading the other reviews doesn't seem like it's a one off. After waiting 35 minutes for my singular impossible bagel I asked one of the staff members to cancel and refund my order. As I'm waiting for the "manager" Amy to refund my order the kitchen sends it out. I told them I'd still like a refund (mind you my bagel came out to $19 which is criminal in and of itself). The cashier said that I could still keep the bagel and wait for them to process the refund. As I'm waiting for the manager to process the return I placed the bagel bag on the counter. The manager grabbed the bag and took it to the other side of the counter. I figured it was so she could look at the receipt on the bag. She processed my refund and after she was done I asked if I can have the bagel that the cashier told me I could have for waiting so long. The manager said "I don't know why she would tell you you could keep the bagel". I said probably because I have been waiting an insane amount of time for a singular bagel. She said that I couldn't have it so I left. Called their number in the car driving home to get the name of the rude manager and was told her name is Amy. The person that answered the phone said that they don't have time to talk to me so I hung up. I'll never be going back. The bagels are mediocre at best and completely overpriced. I drove from Tarzana to Burbank and was a little disappointed when they were out if 2 kinds of bagels I drove 1/2 for that's why I gave it 4 stars. However most importantly the manager could not have been kinder. He totally reversed my frustration and unhappiness!!! He gave me a healthy amount of product and gave me some dessert. I really hope they clarify their ordering process and create an easier way to view the menu. The drink menu is at the front, but food menu is way in the back and you're in the way of the line when viewing it, so it was very awkward if you wanted both a drink and food item walking back and forth between people just to view them. Also, the menus cycled their displays, so you'd have to wait even longer in inconvenient spots to see all of their offerings. Having the menus all in one place at the front of the store or printing paper menus to grab would be better. We were confused on the ordering process as well. There are two registers, one at the front (drink) and one in the back (food), and we wanted both food and drink, so we weren't sure which line to stand in. Turns out it was all one line! We ordered at the "food" register and then were told to move down to the next to pick up the drinks. When we got there, they said the previous register didn't work, and we needed to repeat our long orders again at this one. I understand technical difficulties in the first couple weeks, but overall, better signage for the ordering process could help. Or just have the registers all in one place. As someone who is still covid conscious, the nice outdoor seating is so appreciated! The tuscany bean salad was amazing and my plain bagel/egg/cheese was pretty bland, but the texture of the bagel was like NY. I want to try a flavored one next time to see if it's better and check out their cream cheese selection. I'm excited about the idea of this place, will be back! read more

I was hoping this place would be awesome, but it was subpar. Ordered 1 Toasted Bagel and a Breakfast Burrito. It took 30 minutes to get my food. For a place to stop in and pickup breakfast on the way into work, it's not possible to trust I can order and still get to work on time. If you have time for more of a sitdown restaurant experience then it could work for you. The bagel itself was pretty good but for the price and the time it takes, there are better options nearby (like Hanks). The breakfast burrito was the worst I've had in a long time. Mostly just filled with eggs. Paid extra for bacon and it wasn't in there. If you're thinking about checking this place out and have a limited morning or lunch hour, expect to go in there and just order an untoasted bagel with a spread if you want to get out in time...and stick to their bagels. read more

Horrible horrible service! We live down the street and were really looking forward to this bagel place opening and were constantly sharing the news to all our neighbors. But to wait over 2 hours for a bagel?!! I sent my daughter to pick up breakfast and she went with her 2 friends and they made their bagels pretty fast and completely disregarded my daughter with the Continuous excuse of "sorry, we're just really backed up right now" because they had to cook hers??! Yeah we don't mind waiting a bit longer for a more exquisite bagel but seriously over 2 hours?! That's just rude and discriminating against my daughter and we will never be back and I'll make sure to spread the word to everyone in our neighborhood. The closest NYC style bagel I've had in LA. It does not disappoint! And the vegan cream cheese... wow amazing. When we went, they were offering three different vegan schmear options: "plain tofu," "tofu scallion," and "tofu veggie." You know it's the good vegan schmear when they just call it tofu. Tofu scallion was delicious. And the bagel was totally loaded, too. Just like you'd have it in NYC. Great service and affordable. Had to snag a tub of the tofu scallion to take back home.
