I got a build your own breakfast sandwich thing and unfortunately when i got there, the cheddar jalapeño bagel i wanted was sold out so they let me do the croissant. This is by far the BEST breakfast sandwich i've ever had IN MY LIFE. Alhambra is a bit of a drive for me but I will 100% be returning. I ordered online to pick up and the service was quick. It's a pretty standard lox and it comes open faced, but I opted to choose to eat it New York style and mash it into a sandwich; it was much easier to eat it this way because it kept quite a bit of capers from falling out. They have their ratios right: the toasted bagel had enough cream cheese that you could feel the creamy texture, with enough salmon to give it a hearty bite, and a healthy amount of capers to brighten everything together. I've visited many bagel places and I'd like to think that I have a good sense of what makes a good bagel. It's a pastry that can go so right or so mediocre and unfortunately for Bagel Exchange, they leaned more on the mediocre side of things. So first impressions of the spot were promising. I went in knowing that the spot was relatively new and that it had a stock exchange/economy decor and style. As someone who hates math and can barely even understand what an economy even is, I wasn't the hugest fan but I appreciated that it was someone else's passion. I will say that I've never seen anything like it. In my opinion, they could lean more heavily into the style; there were only a few decorations and screens that vaguely presented a stock market vibe. It doesn't really scream and shout passion and enthusiasm for the style they went for, but I can appreciate that they are a new spot and that they'll likely do more in the future. The menu is huge and the names for the items are very creative! They do offer a big selection of foods and beverages, maybe even too big. The menu was a little overwhelming for me and I struggled to pick out what I wanted. I decided to go for the pizza bagel and the exchange. I also went with a cold brew and took a few sips of their thai tea latte. I was surprised at how big the exchange was; it's basically a sausage, bacon, ham, egg, and cheese sandwich. I don't usually complain about large quantities of whatever's in between a sandwich, but this was a little much. I couldn't really taste much because it was so salty. Most disappointingly, the bagel itself lacked the chewiness and airiness that a good bagel provides. It tasted like it was bought in, not made in-house. The pizza bagel was nothing too special either, as the bagel itself was a bit of a letdown. Thai tea latte was alright, but I honestly didn't get much out of it. This isn't a normal two star review bashing a restaurant; this is a two start review given with love, because I REALLY do feel that the owners have passion and effort put into this spot. I think if they just leaned more heavily into their theme, reduced the size of their menu, and most importantly, perhaps invest in perfecting their own bagel recipe rather than relying on store bought bagels, the Bagel Exchange would be a very well-known bagel spot! Their location is perfect, as they get a lot of foot traffic and is easily visible from the street. As it stands, Bagel Exchange is easily outclassed by other bagel spots. Bagel Exchange is a new store that recently opened up in Downtown Alhambra. Not only do they sell a variety of bagels (I believe there's about 25 options!) and cream cheese options, but they also have sandwiches, pastries, and drinks! They're going for a stock market themed store with NFT decorations, which is different and pretty cool. My coworkers decided to give this place a try and went early one weekday morning to pick up some items. They didn't have a large variety of pastries (they only make a limited number on the weekdays), but there was a good selection of bagels. I ended up getting the cinnamon sugar bagel with strawberry cream cheese on the side (bagel was $2 and the cream cheese was $2). Price was a little high, especially with the cream cheese being priced the same amount as the bagel. And I have to say that the donut didn't look appetizing when I first took it out of the package - it was a very pale color and looked as if it wasn't yet cooked. But I gave it a try and was surprised at how tasty it was! I really enjoyed the texture of the donut - very chewy and not dry/hard. Way different from bagels you'd buy at a grocery store. And the strawberry cream cheese - was light and airy with a hint of strawberry flavor. I ate half and finished the other half two days later. By then, it was pretty hard, but I microwaved it in a damp paper towel and it was back to that same state when I ate it fresh! Really surprised by how much I enjoyed the bagel. I came back a few days later to try their strawberry/blueberry cream cheese croissant. I gave the store a call, and the woman who answered was super friendly and helpful. Unfortunately they were all out of those pastries, but they had an apple croissant that they put to the side for me. I got to the store and picked it up - both she and the gentleman helping me were friendly as they explained how some items were only made in smaller quantities on the weekdays. They also had special items that could be preordered in advance, which was nice to know. The apple croissant ($3) was pretty good, but I think the pastry was a little more on the savory side (more suited to a savory meat pie pastry than a sweeter pastry). It was crispy and flaky and tasted pretty good, but I probably wouldn't order this again. Definitely will be returning to try some of their other baked goods and bagels! Walked in by accident because I was too early to go to the Edwards Alhambra, and I looooved everything about this place! My family and I got a Matcha Latte, Hot Drip Coffee, Hot Green Tea, and 2 Ham & Cheese Bagels. The bagels were literally steaming hot; the buns were so soft. The matcha latte is quite literally one of the most well mixed ones I've had and there isn't any bitterness at all. The staff were also very friendly and welcomed us in. The harsh reviews are really uncalled for. It's a SOFT opening, give them a break. They don't know if one person will walk thru that door or 100! I don't know why ppl feel entitled to bash a small business that literally opened their doors a couple days ago. Offer constructive criticism, so they know what to improve on. Saying how it's 'store bought', a generic 'not good' or 'cashier isn't confident' is insulting and not helpful at all. Personally, I'm thrilled to finally see a bagel shop in Alhambra. This is one of the only dedicated bagel shops that I've been able to find in the area. They have an interesting finance theme with stock charts and finance channels playing on TV screens inside. A bit gimmicky, but not off-putting. There's a small amount of seating inside if you prefer to dine-in. The bagels were the perfect size and tasted decent, but not as good as I'd hoped. While the crumb was fine and chewy, the crust was missing that shiny, bubbly texture and that crispness you get from a really good bagel. On my first visit, I ordered a (toasted) plain bagel with cream cheese and a Stocks n Lox on an everything bagel. For the first bagel, they were super stingy with the cream cheese. You can see in my photo how disappointing the portion was. I did like the lox bagel though. The salmon was well-prepared and, combined with the everything bagel, wasn't overly salty. I had also come back a few days later to order another (toasted) plain bagel with cream cheese. I was hoping the first time was an accident and that they didn't actually serve that as a normal portion of cream cheese. So this time, I specifically asked for extra cream cheese, only to receive more, but still a disappointing amount. I don't know why they're so hesitant to give a proper portion of cream cheese when other shops do. However, the pricing was reasonable and service was quick and pleasant. This is a decent option for an area with limited bagel choices, but there's definitely room for improvement. I found out about this spot on Facebook's SGV eats group. I felt famished after a long shift, and this place surely satisfied me! I got a jalapeño bagel with marinara sauce, mozzarella cheese, cucumbers, egg, and ham. Each bite hit the spot! It felt like I was eating a delicious pizza sandwich. The bagel itself was okay...it didn't have enough cheese nor jalapeño to give me the rich cheddar and spicy flavors I was looking for. The egg was super fluffy and piping hot. Overall, the bagel sandwich was pretty bland. Probably wouldn't get it again without meat. May need some sausage or bacon next time to add more flavors. Service was good. Staff were friendly and quick with their service. I see them socializing with all the customers coming in, so they definitely are welcoming. There are excellent options for unique bagels, like Spinach Asiago and Rainbow. The several flavors of cream cheese allow for enough flavor combos to please every bagel-connoisseur. Breakfast/lunch options include adding eggs, roast beef, lox, bacon, and even peanut butter and jelly. There are affordable deals on packs of 4, 6, or 12 day-old bagels on sale every day. I placed my order 25 minutes prior to arriving via their website just to wait in line for an additional 5-10 minutes (no dedicated pickup station/line here) and when I got to the front of the line I was told my order would be ready in 5 minutes. Waited another 15 minutes for my order, in this hot musty place. When I finally received my order I realized they had given me a medium size latte instead of the large which I paid for. When I brought this up, the attitude of the staff was terrible, it was as if I was bothering them. Waited an additional 5 minutes to get the correct size latte. Avoid this place, they clearly don't care enough to provide a good service. Also, this place received a C health score! Who know's what kind of gross things the health inspector found. My favorite bagel place everrrrr. We've been like 7 times in the last few months. It's kind of a Saturday tradition at this point. I always get the same thing. Toasted onion bagel, add lox. They never let me down. Also the iced coffee is really good. I'll be honest though I'm not into the stock exchange aesthetic. I had an ube latte, half sweet, with oat milk, which was decent. I also ordered an egg and cheese bagel with bacon, which was very mediocre at best. I was expecting the egg to be fluffy and soft, but was disappointed to see the egg cooked way past done. Additionally, it was either not seasoned or not seasoned at all... so the salt and pepper they gave us with the packaged utensils was actually useful in bringing out the flavor of the eggs. We also had the Stock and LOX, a wonderful open faced bagel (comes in a pair) with smoked salmon, capers, sliced onion, and micro greens, and we also had the Exchange, which was a souped up version of my bagel with sausage, ham, and the underwhelming eggs.
