I was in Squirrel Hill recently and stopped in this location to try their deli. They have in house made deli meats such as turkey, corned beef and pastrami. I got a couple pounds of turkey and some corned beef. The turkey tasted very good. The corned beef was good as well. Definitely coming back to get more from their deli. They of course also have bagels, other baked goods, sandwiches and soups. I will try a bagel next visit. read more

Do not get the breakfast burrito. It was mostly old, burnt, greasy potatoes and tasted like old burnt greasy potatoes. Also, do not get the vegetable cream cheese. I can't truly say anything about the bagels because of the overpowering, rotten aroma of the cream cheese. I really want to support local places but this needs some work. And a really good cleaning. The ordering process is a bit off and the full selection of items is presented on strangely staggered menus which are difficult to read. I dealt with 2 employees while I was there, one was very polite and the other seemed very unhappy. I felt like I was just bothering them by existing. Today was not my first visit, however, one of my best. We always ask for the bagel toasted twice, but not consistent. The toasting seems to make the bagel softer and less chewy. I parked on the street and popped in to pick up the bag. I'm sorry to say I'd never been inside before, and it was decorated for the holidays. So. Much. Food. So many tempting treats! I used to go here a lot! The bagels are terrific. The menu is huge. But, unfortunately, it seems like it is not well cared for. It's not clean and it doesn't appear as though a lot of care goes into keeping things separate and at the right temperature. I saw someone drop a bagel and merely brush it off and construct a sandwich on it. Where once I loved their whitefish, the last time it was old and had an odd taste. You wait a long time for your order and the design from order to cashier is confusing. A good cleaning and remodel might be needed. He told me that I need to "be mindful" of "those people over the bridge" while pointing in the general direction of East Liberty, a historically black neighborhood. The bagels are decent, but there is an extreme lack of care for safety and cleanliness around the store. Excellent bagels. I am withholding a star simply because the ordering process is needlessly confusing. You order and pay at separate locations with tiny signs that are obscured by other hanging paper signs when you come in. When I made the mistake of going to the "pay here" sign I was directed back to the "order here" sign after a huge line had formed behind me (No one was there when I walked in). Could easily be solved by larger signs that could be hung from the beautiful metal rafters in the ceiling. Would also be helpful for the vision impaired. read more

I reviewed this business recently. I became so angered by the behavior and lack of concern from one of the owners, that I swore at him. He reached out to me via reply on Uber Eats after I responded to their standard How was your order question. This owner swore a few times in his response and never accepted responsibility for the type of food I received. He brought up Covid and a couple other things as if I should be understanding, etc. Covid has nothing to do with any of this. Cooking food PROPERLY is important no matter what is happening. If you're going to be open and be paid for your food and/or other services, then you are obligated to do it right. Period. Who would eat any of this, especially those potato pancakes on the right? I'm very torn about Bagel Factory, as living in New York made me a bagel snob. It's not fair to compare Bagel Factory to a NYC bagel so I won't. But if that is what you are craving, this will not fill that void. I think the best bagel in Pittsburgh is a fair claim to fame, but Pittsburgh has some really bad bagels. Just a thought. I ordered a rye bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese ($3.99). There was a ton of good, thick bacon on the sandwich, and that was AMAZING. Plenty of cheese and the perfect amount of egg as well. But the bagel was pretty much flavorless. Rye bagels should have flavor. If this place wasn't called the bagel factory, it would be different. But the bagel was so whatever. The bagels are also really small for a fresh bagel. I would definitely come back to the Bagel Factory, but I think they really should work on creating a more memorable bagel. Back in September, we tried a week of 'Buy Fresh/Buy Local,' with a goal of having 75% of our meals for the week locally-sourced. I can't say it was easy or cheap, but it was a great experience that left me with a lot of lasting decisions. One of those decisions? Buying my bagels freshly-made from the Bagel Factory instead of in a plastic bag from the grocery store. I like the Squirrel Hill location because it's convenient to my house, and although there is metered street parking in the front, there is also a (pay) parking lot behind the building if you have to go during a busy time of day. They have a ton of different house-made cream cheeses (the lox and chive ones are my favorites, although they have a variety of plain and sweet-flavored cream cheeses as well). The bagels are stored behind a glass partition so you can see which of their dozen-plus flavors are available when you go in. I'm partial to the cracked wheat and grain bagels, but there are blueberry, garlic, honey oat, plain, and everything bagels (to name just a few). All of them are super-fresh and filling but light. And best of all - at the Squirrel Hill location, if you go on a Tuesday to pick up your bagels, buy six bagels and get six bagels for free!! Free bagels! You can't argue with that! The staff is always really friendly and helpful. They helped me learn how to freeze bagels without sacrificing quality (so that I could take advantage of that six-free-bagels deal). And any time there's a sale or a special, they will tell you right away when you go in. The only negative part of my whole Bagel Factory experience is that the stairs leading from the shop to the parking lot out back are metal, and no matter what shoes I am wearing, I sound like an elephant entering and exiting the building. Sorry, Bagel Factory employees! I wish I didn't sound like a stompasaurus every time I go in! This shop also has a huge chalkboard menu of sandwiches (although I have only gone for bagels, so I can't comment on the sandwiches), and they sell fresh bread loaves, cookies, and other baked goods as well. So, be ready to say goodbye to Thomas' bagels at Giant Eagle. Once you get your fresh breakfast bagels from the Bagel Factory, you won't be able to go back! read more

My first visit to the Bagel Factory was a little overwhelming. It's a large space with different stations spread out around the perimeter. There's an ice cream and milkshake station to the left with the sandwich counter, cold deli case, and coffee bar around the right side and back. The menu is expansive, which is both great and a lot to consider. I got a garlic bagel lox sandwich with cream cheese, lox, tomato, onions and capers. It was big, delicious, and filling. My breath will be intense for hours, but worth it. The staff are eager to help and take your order, but this may seem a little brusque if you're trying to decide on one of their many options. The staff were eager to make sure we were comfortable and got everything we needed though. We'll definitely be back, but I think I'm going to look at the menu online beforehand to get some ideas. read more

I ordered for pick up, and they were out of potato latkes which is understandable considering it's a Jewish holiday, but they charged me $7 for them and then gave me homefries instead which is NOT the same. Then I ordered chicken soup with matzo balls and there is not even one single piece of chicken in there. So I paid over $10 for broth with two matzo balls. Bagels are much better than Columbus Ohio and they are generous with groupons so I can load up with 4 dozen bagels. The person that waited on us was a little edgy when stating that she had to ring up our order as two separate order. It did not matter to us and hubby apologized for the extra work. But my sense is that perhaps she was edgy because groupon users gave her a hard time. When she saw that we were pleasant, she quickly became friendly as well. So to those who complain about staff, remember that a smile and a thank you nearly always helps get you what you want. I like their bagels, especially the marble rye ones. We help them out by calling in our order the day ahead. Even frozen for months, they are a zillion times better that what is available in Columbus. Hello, Yesterday, March 20, at approximately 2 pm, my boyfriend and I decided to try the Bagel Factory for a late lunch. What a mistake! We feel robbed! Upon entering the restaurant, no one even acknowledged us let alone greeted us. We ordered a southwest salad and a deep fried hot dog and Cajun fries. While paying there were no words exchanged except for the total. My salad was absolutely appalling! Why bother having salads on the menu when you are just serving a bowl of canned goods!? The hot dog was on a hamburger bun! It had nothing on it! We would known that if the employees would have been willing to talk to us! The fries were ok. The tables were sticky. There was trash strewn about. Some of the seating had stacks of boxes and papers, etc on it. Very cluttered and dirty. We left around 2:30pm to get to the parking lot exit and the employees snapped "we are closed! That's closed!" Needless to say we will never flush our hard earned money down this toilet bowl of a place again! Maybe your employees should take some lessons from the fun, welcoming crew at Baskin Robbins!
